4/11/08 - Unfortunately, this will be Abby's last entry.  I suppose it was just her time to cross the bridge, time on earth never does seem to be enough for those of us who are left here but I'm sure for those who ascend it was time to well spent.  And while Abby made that journey alone today, I know she will be greeted by many who are waiting to greet her with kisses and hugs. For those of you who were lucky enough to have met Abby, you know how special she was. For she was always accepting and non-judgmental, no matter of species, gender or disposition.  She just wanted to be loved and to love. Abby, or as my daughter like to call her, Abby-dorable, was the epitome of sweet.  With the passing of all my loved ones humans and canines, I like to ponder and retain some sort of legacy.  Some sort of code, that they would admire, to live by.  While Abby was with us for just a short time, I feel like I have known her a lifetime.  I think what I admire most about Abby is that she chose to find the good in everyone and still tried to befriend them.  In the vet.'s office, she tried to make friends with a cat (several times) who obviously didn't like dogs.  My Lucy "put up" with Abby, and would even terrorize poor Abby at times, but Abby still tried to be her friend. There will always be a space in my heart reserved for Abby.  The little girl with the biggest heart of all.

3/18/08 - I can't believe so much time has passed since Abby first came . . . and on that note, I do apologize for such a tardy update.  What can I say, Abby is the perfect guest!  She easily got accustomed to our routine and our way of life and slid right into our family life.
Abby has proven to us that she doesn't need to be crated while we're gone, she will be very well behaved.  She also has proven to us that just because there is a gate across a doorway or a closed door, if she wants "in" she will find a way to get in!  She is very, very smart, to say the least.  She has taught us to gate or crate the other dogs, but leave her out and about, and everything will be hunky-dory.
She does provide us with a little chuckle sometimes.  For example, she must not have been allowed on furniture where she came from.  We have constantly told her she is perfectly welcome to come join us up on the couch, but she won't have it.  The only time I catch her up on the couch is when I return home and find her snoring away . . .
This little lovey enjoys following us around the house and just being with us wherever we go.  While she is submissive to our other dogs, and has never shown any aggressive behavior towards them, she does prefer to spend her time with us.  But if we are not available, she tends to follow my male dog (Travis)about.
In any case, this little girl does not need any formal training . . . in fact she seems to live to train us! (and she's very good at it too!)

2/19/08 - We picked Abby up on 2/8/08 from the shelter.  She was the perfect car rider, such a little lady, she even napped a bit.  We were all set to introduce her into our "pack" slowly . . . but within 5 minutes (no exaggeration) the three dogs were sniffing, romping and eating together, without any problem.  Abby is so sweet and loves to be pet.  She acclimated to her new "home" very easily, she just sort of melded right into the mix.  Abby loves to go for car rides, walks and play in the backyard.  She will make some family extremely happy, with all the love she has to give!
