2/1/05 - Just wanted to send an update on our great boy Roscoe. He has really accepted these last two fosters wonderfully and now he is feeling a little bit down since he is the "lone dog". Hopefully we will find him a partner that will be a permanent part of our family and he won't have to be alone. So... we decided to take him along with us to go sledding. There is a breathtaking historic site , 5 minutes from our house- overlooking the Hudson River. You can see Roscoe and what his "take" on sleigh-riding is- eating the sled! We absolutely love this boy and are very happy that he is part of our life! He's the BEST!!!

12/15/04 - Hello everyone! I thought I would send in an update for Roscoe since there has been a lot going on in his life right now. We have recently opened our home (and hearts) to fostering a sweet, older male Boxer. He came into BAR's hands as a shelter surrender and is a real sweetheart. Roscoe did not like the initial introduction, but has seemed to come around. He really wants to play but doesn't know if he likes the idea of this guy sharing his family. Roscoe continues to be a GREAT dog! He has settled in to our crazy house (lots of kids coming and going, rabbits, etc.) and now is slowly starting to show us how he will be with another dog in his house. Other than that, Roscoe is super- we couldn't have asked for a better companion!

10/20/04 - I know this is long overdue and for those of you who are wondering about Roscoe- he couldn't be better! He is a great dog- all around! He is so much more happy about life- he actually is now starting to bark and wiggle :) We left Roscoe at home with our neighbors for the week we were away in August and he did wonderfully- no problems. He does get very lonely when he is left alone, but not destructive at all. Thankfully he does not have to be alone often; he still comes to work with me and is a complete gentleman (except for when the little pug comes in the office and they get
each other going!) We still wonder why he could have been left in a shelter... he is the best dog anyone could ask for. Anyone who meets and knows Roscoe will testify to that! We love him dearly and he has become so close to all of us. I sent along some new pictures too.

7/9/04 - I haven't had a chance to go camera shopping yet so everyone can see the HAPPY BOXER BOY we now have!
Roscoe has been a joy all along and has started to show a real great personality! We knew he was a good dog from the
start, but he seemed a bit shy and lacking something. Well, whatever he was missing he must have found with us because he is a real jokester! We lovingly call him "Hootie" now as his favorite toy is this large squeaky blow fish (get it?). Hootie has been to the vet again to get his blood checked once more for any sign of Lyme- he's all clear. We did have a call from our neighbor stating that he barked while we were away from the house and Roscoe was crated. Apparently he barked the whole time! I was told of a trick to get him to stop and it worked after only a few tries. He now has the pleasure of being able to enjoy the entire downstairs level of our house while we are not home- he has proven to be very well behaved! I will have to get some new pictures to share and show you how Roscoe has bonded with us- especially the kids! Roscoe loves attention, but doesn't hound you for it. He is very patient and extremely obedient. He was also tolerant of the 4th of July festivities- no sign of fear or running with the loud noises. He even went to a parade! The fire trucks' sirens didn't phase him a bit. We are so pleased with our boy and couldn't have asked for a better companion. People that meet him are very jealous and say "I wish our dog could be as nice and well behaved as yours. We could never bring him anywhere with us." All thanks to BAR for making the connection :) !!!!

6/17/04 - Hello again from Roscoe's new family! Roscoe seems to be settling in to his new home and a schedule. Like
I mentioned, he comes to work with me, lucky for him I only work a few hours in the morning. He follows me around
everywhere. He is very agreeable to everyone, even the mail man and the UPS guy that delivers to our office.
We walk to work and he doesn't pull on the leash, but he does get a bit nervous of loud cars and trucks (maybe
because of his experience when he was stray). He sleeps more first thing in the morning and when we get home
we play fetch- Roscoe's absolute favorite thing to do! I can throw the ball to him a hundred times.
I actually have to stop playing in this hot, humid weather or else I think he would keep on going till he dropped.
The kids love to play too and Roscoe constantly gets smothered with hugs! He is such a great dog! I have found out
that he is not very fond of cats, at least the few he has met. I'll send some new pictures soon.

6/9/04 - Well, we have had our Roscoe with us for 4 days- I cannot say ONE bad thing about him! It actually renders me speechless at times when I talk about him. I think the general public has this
misconception that rescued dogs always come with issues and/or "baggage". We are soooo lucky with our boy!
So far he has shown nothing but love and affection to everyone he meets (even other dogs). I
brought him to work yesterday and then again today. He is now an official "office mascot" (along with a
Pug and Doberman). He just wants to be with us. His absolute favorite thing in the world is balls, or anything round that resembles one- rocks will do! He will play fetch all day- he even brings it back , lays down and drops in front of you. He is VERY well behaved and has been introduced to our rabbits. We have a barn of 21 Holland Lops and Roscoe comes in with me when I feed them. He sniffs at them through the cages. Some will hop up to him and sniff back! It's cute to watch! My kids have had the wonderful opportunity of falling in love again with a dog. After losing our senior Boxer Sherman, they were heartbroken. Roscoe has changed that for all of us! He is going for a trip to meet my vet and the office staff today. Just an formal "Hello" and show-off time for me! He is eating great and in good health and spirits! Thanks again to Tina, Gary and Bonnie for all your help making this connection!

6/5/004 - Roscoe has been adopted.
Well, we got our boy!!! He is a dream.... my kids were so excited to see him, they have been playing ball with him non-stop for the last hour! I guess all will sleep good tonight. He traveled great from Long Island- it was about a 2-2 1/2 hour trip. I will update Gary after the weekend when we all know each a bit better. I am delighted to have been part of your organization- Gary & his wife Anne seem like such genuine dog people. It was a privilege to have them help Roscoe out with his home separation and bridge over to his new life with us. I will stay in touch, or check out the web site for updates. Thanks again-Susan

6/2/04 - Just a quick update on my fantastic foster boy Rosco. He loves to play with a ball, any ball he can find. He holds it with his paw for dear life, and if another dog takes a bit of interest in the ball, Rosco gives a very slight growl. Very slight, and he doesn't follow it up with anything.I decided I would test how much Rosco knows, so I took the ball and asked him to "sit". He responded immediately. I told him "down", and he went down right away. So, I asked Rosco to give me "paw", and he just stared at me. I repeated it several times, with no compliance. I picked up his paw a few times, but he just did not get it. So I thought, maybe he was taught the command as "shake", so I said, Rosco, shake. Well, what do you think this "smart" boy does? He rolls over on his back....:o))) LOL! I thought this must be a mistake, so I go thru all the commands again, and when I get to “shake”...good old Rosco rolls over on his back again. So, of course I bragged that I taught him to "roll over", only I wanted the command to be short and sweet, so I taught him the trick using the command "shake"...(LOL) Oh well, no one was buying this.
He continues to be a super boy, and when he leaves we are really going to miss this guy, but my loss will be someone’s loving addition.

6/1/04 - Rosco is pending adoption.

5/29/04 - We took Rosco to the vet for an overall checkup. He was just super there. Of course, everyone fell in love with him. No one could believe that he was not reclaimed from the shelter.
The vet estimated his age to be between 1 and 1 1/2 yrs old. She recommended antibiotics for him, just as a precaution since he has a bunch of scabies from the ticks, which are all gone now. Some of his canine teeth are slightly broken, and I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't from this interesting habit I have observed of him picking up some pretty decent sized rocks and playing "ball" with them. Other then the antibiotics, everything is just great with him, and we will wait for the results of the heartworm test he had done.
Once home, I decided to give Rosco a bath, outside, since the weather was just great this Memorial Day weekend, and he was just super. He just stood there thru the whole thing, and even stood there while I towel dried him. Definitely the easiest bath I have EVER given to a dog. And I did the entire bath myself.
This past weekend we had lots of dogs over, big ones and little ones, and Rosco's behavior with them could not be better. He had NO issues with any of the dogs. Some of the dogs got him to play with them, others just were hanging out and not paying attention to him. He played with the dogs that wanted to play, and he played beautifully, and those that did not want to play with him he left alone. His temperament can not be beat.
He goes in his crate soooo easily, and settles down quickly. He never jumps on anyone, or climbs up on any furniture. He is housetrained, and does his business outside. He gives gentle kisses. He is eating approx 4 cups of food, with some vanilla yogurt mixed in. He is putting on a bit of weight, which he could surely use. Have I described the perfect dog? Well, this is no exaggeration; I think this boy IS perfect. And so young, it is hard to believe he is so well behaved.
When he looks at you, he has this warm look, with a bit of shyness, waiting for you to tell him it is ok to come to you. He knows sit, but I haven't worked to see if he knows other commands.
I hope your app is in, and you are already an approved home, as I cannot imagine this boy will be around very long. This boy cannot be beat, he is a TOTAL pleasure to have around.

5/23/04 - Rosco is spending a couple of days here at the Guardian Angel Boxer Haven while his foster family is attending their daughters graduation. Rosco is a super little guy who gets along with all the other dogs in the home. He appears to be housebroken with no accidents at all. He has a great temperament and loves to get attention.
Rosco was found as a stray just FULL of ticks. His foster dad pulled of about 25 of them, then when he got here I pulled of another 9 of them. He was such a good boy...just stands there for you to work on him.
Rosco is great in the crate...sleeps all night with not a peep...this boy is just too good to be true! He will be home before we know it.

5/22/04 - We became aware of Rosco from one of our favorite shelters. He was a stray, and needed to come into rescue quickly. I went to pick him up, and was very taken back by what I saw. I am used to seeing dogs in different conditions, from walking skeletons, to wounds and growths, eye problems, etc. But poor Rosco, he was FULL of ticks, which had obviously been feeding on him for a while. There were tons of them, and the frontline that the shelter has put on him the day before was only starting to have an effect on them. On the floor of his kennel were a bunch of smaller ticks, that had not been on him long at all, and some that look like they had been on him for a bit.
With all this, Rosco was just a wonderful boy, gave gentle kisses, and a little wiggle butt when I told him what a good boy he was.
Rosco was excellent in the car ride home, and after he settled a bit, I took him out to remove as many ticks as I could. Boy, this was not a pleasurable exercise, these guys were in real good, and weren't letting go so quickly. Thru it all, Rosco did not budge. He really cooperated beautifully.
I am going to move Rosco to a temporary foster home tonight, as I have a busy weekend with my daughter’s graduation. Once back, I am sure we will not have this super boy long.
