2/1/06 - Well, we don't really update Colors's page anymore, but we figured that since yesterday was his two-year anniversary with us, we'd touch base.
Colors is doing GREAT.  I swear, it seems like he gets younger, happier and more active every day.  You would never guess that he's almost 9 years old.  He does tire out a bit before our other almost 5 year-old boxer, Prince, but they get plenty of wrestling on the bed or running through the
park before he wears out.

Adopting Colors was one of the best decisions we have ever made - he is truly a remarkable dog.  I was hesitant about taking in an older dog at first, but we tried it out and it has been the most amazing experience.  We love him so much and he has made us so happy - and I know we've made a
difference in his life too.  I now know how wonderful adopting a senior dog can be!  I will definitely do it again.

Well, we just want to let everyone know how well Cully is doing and how he has made such a wonderful addition to our family.  We'll update again soon.

10/16/04 -OK, we've been extremely remiss in updating Colors' progress, and for that we are sorry! But you will be happy to know that the reason we haven't updated lately is because we have all been so busy, Colors included.

He is doing great. He still loves going on walks, playing with his brother Prince and sleeping. As I write this he is right at my side, watching me, hoping for a pet...he is such a wonderful dog. Oh, and he loves drooling too...he certainly loves doing that - especially when there are treats or human food involved. He's very gentlemanly - he does not beg, but the 3-5 bubbles or "shoelaces" of drool hanging out of each side of his mouth lets you know what he wants...

We hit a couple of rough patches along the way (Colors was a bit of a growly-pants at first, especially when food was involved), but we knew his background, gave him his space and they smoothed out on their own. He has really blossomed into a normal, happy-go-lucky dog and rarely shows signs of his old introverted self. In fact, it was our hope that Colors would calm Prince (our first boxer) down, but the opposite is true - Prince has turned Colors into a nut. But they have fun and we love it too!

The only bad thing is that we cannot really attend any BAR or other dog-themed events. When together, Prince and Colors can be a tad obnoxious to other dogs (though they get along great while off-leash or with dogs we know personally) and it's not worth giving everyone else a headache. So unfortunately we don't get to go to dog events, but it doesn't cause us any problems in everyday life and they are perfect (well, we think so!) in every other way, so it's not really a problem.

Well, all I can say is that Colors is doing great and he has become a true member of our family. We are grateful to BAR for bringing us all together.

5/25/04 - Colors is doing GREAT!!!  We really feel like he is a part of the family.  My husband and I are completely amazed at how well Prince (our first guy) and Colors are getting along- not one altercation to date (knock on wood!).  There were never any problems between them, and we are completely convinced that they switch the alpha role.  Prince is in charge of toys, Colors is top dog with the water, and they NEVER argue over food- it's bizarre and almost magical...we've never seen anything like it...especially because Prince tends to be pretty dominant!  He seems to know that Colors is his brother and lets him get away with stuff that any other dog wouldn’t :)  They jaw and box constantly.
As for Colors himself, he has really come into his own.  A complete mush; he is always looking to lick our faces, play, cuddle- you name it.  He is truly happy and it makes us so happy to see him like this.  I always tell him that he must know that he's made it to his forever home because it took some time for him to come out of his shell.  He was always friendly, but not to this extent,
it has really just been over the last month or so.  We can not get over his exuberance - kidney beans, bunny hops, jumping and snoozing are the norm and he’s content sleeping by smushing his face under our pillows just to be close- he's an amazing dog and we're so happy he's happy!

2/15/04 - Colors is doing wonderfully! Two weeks ago, we had a long car ride home from south Jersey back to NYC (lots of traffic!) and he was a little freaked out, but as soon as he got into our apartment he settled right in (and now he loves car trips!). We were a little concerned about how he and Prince (our other male boxer) would get along, but they clicked right away and have become the best of friends. Prince and Colors always want to boxer-play and we let them go crazy on our bed until they tire out. They love it and sometimes we even have to stop them because they've been at it for so long :)
We are so happy that Colors is happy and that he has his forever home. At first he didn't seem to love being cuddled and played with (by us humans at least- how sad, he must not have been used to it) but after a few days he warmed up and now he's almost as mushy as Prince! He loves us humans and he loves his brother and I'm so happy we were able to give a second chance to this middle-aged sweetheart of a boxer!

1/31/04 - Colors has been adopted.
Colors just left a little bit ago with his new family.  Rachel and Keith liked Colors very much and he them.  They did bring their 2 1/2 year old Boxer, Prince.  Prince has a lot of energy and was very
happy to see another dog.  The two of them were pretty good together.  They are fine until they start playing and then they start to get a little rough.  That will just take some adjustment time.
Rachel and Keith were not bothered at all and feel that it will work out just fine.  I agree, the two dogs got better and better together just in the time they were here.  Rachel and Keith understand and
agree that they should keep the dogs on leashes for the first few days and watch them closely for any scuffles.  I felt very comfortable with Colors going to live with them.  I have got to tell
you since the day Colors came here he barked at every person who walked through my door.  Until today.  Rachel and Keith walked in and Colors went up to them wiggling and kissing them.  Not a single
bark.  I was amazed.  He really took an instant liking to them.  We'll miss him.

1/30/04 - Colors is pending adoption.

1/20/04 - Ok, we have discovered that Colors pulls a bit on the leash but it's nothing that can't be worked on. With a little time and patience he will do fine. I don't think this boy was ever really walked before, so it's a learning experience for him. He's a good boy though, he should learn fast. I have noticed with it though, that he pulls more with woman than men. It may just be because he knows he can get away with it a little more, but we are going to try and remedy that. We are going to see if while he's here we can try to get him to walk a little better. But hey, if this is his biggest downfall, I say that's great. This boy is a great dog. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him. He has the best personality and will be a great asset to any home. As I've said many times before, don't let his age fool you. We had one of our past fosters here over the weekend and she plays non stop. Well, my two dogs who are ages 1 and 2 got tired after a while and had to stop and take naps. Our Cully boy kept up with her all weekend. I still can't believe that he outlasted my two. He definitely showed his stamina this weekend. Anyway, Colors is all set and ready to go, we are now just waiting for that special family to call. Will that be you? Don't wait too long. You'll miss out on a wonderful opportunity getting to know this guy. We're waiting for your call.

1/15/04 - Well, this has been interesting. Colors is back at the M & M Boxer Bunker now along with another foster boy who has been here since last week. Colors' new foster parents were going on vacation for a week and didn't want Colors to have to stay home without them. So, he came back to a house full of dogs happy to see him. And in turn, he was happy to see them. Colors is such a resilient dog. He was so happy to be back and to see the dogs and the kids again. He wiggled so mauch last night. And now today. he has been playing in the snow half the morning. The cold certainly doesn't seem to bother him. Colors is such a good boy. As my husband said, he is a 2 year old in a 6 year old's body. He is eager to please and very easy going. Any family will be lucky to add him into their lives. Please don't let his age fool you. He will out play most dogs half his age. He has already proven that. And when it's time to settle, he is happy to just snuggle up and get some rest. All he needs is a home to call his own and it looks like BAR has managed to find him just the right home.  Will yours be it?

1/9/04 - Colors ended up being moved to the Lakeside Boxer Retreat so that another foster who needed a stay at home foster mom could get full-time attention. I am so glad Cully is here, I can't think of enough good things to say about this guy! He is good with our 2 year old, he is good with our dogs, he is good with us.
This boy loves to play and will bring you a toy to toss long after my two guys (both younger than he is) have crashed. And yet...he is possibly THE most mellow boxer I have ever met. You tell him "no", he quits. You say "come," he comes. Ask him to "sit" and he plants it. Want to wrestle? Okay! Whatever you want, he's up for it. And when you want him to go in the corner and settle down so you can relax, he obliges with no grumbling at all.
He is affectionate, easygoing, and just wants to please you. I honestly think this guy could adapt to any living situation, and I mean ANY. With dogs, without dogs, with kids, without. He just wants a bed to call his own and as much affection as you have to give him. Colors is a super dog, just and all around great guy. He fits right in here, and we are delighted to have him as a guest at the Retreat. However, Colors would love to have a permanent place to call his own and this boy deserves it so very much. He has some great years ahead of him, just imagine yourself being the family privileged to share them with him!

1/7/04 - Yesterday we had to move Colors to a new foster home. It was nothing at all to do with him, we just needed to bring a foster in who needed around the clock attention which I could give. So, Colors has moved about 20 minutes away to another foster home. But, before he left, he did get to the vet last evening. The vet said he looks great, he's at a nice weight, most of it being muscle, he's happy and healthy. So, Color's is now ready to go. Good luck Cully boy. And I'm sure we will hear lots of updates from your new foster mommy.

1/4/04 - Color's vet appointment was changed to Monday because the vet was unavailable yesterday.
I'm fairly positive that everything will check out fine and then Colors is ready to go.
As I've said before, please don't let his age scare you off. This guy acts and looks like a 3 year old. He keeps up with my two Boxers who are ages 1 & 2, without a problem. He will make a great addition to any home. He gets along great with people of all ages, loves the kids, and is doing wonderfully with the dogs. He does show an interest in wanting to chase the cats, so he would probably do better without any around. Other than that, he is an all around great guy. Please give this boy a chance. He will work his way into your heart in no time flat. I will update on him again after his vet appointment. Bye for now.

1/1/04 - What can I say about our Cully boy. If it wasn't for the desire to keep fostering, this boy would never leave. He has worked his way into our hearts quickly. We just don't have the room to keep him and continue fostering as well. So, for the benefit of the many Boxers to come, we will allow him to continue on his way to a forever home that can love him as much as we already do.
You would never guess by his looks and/or actions that this boy is 6 1/2 years old. He has just as much energy and stamina as my one year old and two year old boxers when they all get going. Cully has learned how to play very well with our two. At first, since he had never been around other dogs really, he didn't know what to do when they tried to play with him. But, he has certainly figured it out now.
Colors is fully housebroken, and crate trained. He stays out with me during the days and at night. The only time we crate him is when we go out, and that is just because we don't know what he will do if anything. He is not destructive when we are around, so he very well could be good left out alone as well.
We took him for a walk with us today and he did very well. He swerved side to side a lot, but didn't pull too much. He could use some leash work, but over all he was very good.
Cully has a vet appointment on Saturday to get his fecal test and heartworm check done and then he is ready to go. Please don't let his age scare you off. Once you meet him, you will forget all about that. I will update Saturday after he sees the vet. Until then.

12/29/30 - Well, we finally got hold of Colors' vet record from his pervious vet. It turns out that he is
actually older than we originally were told. He is 6 not 3. But please don't let the age difference scare
you off. Believe me, he is a 3 year old in his mind and he sure does act like one.
All this boy needs is a heartworm and fecal test and he will be ready to go. He is UTD on all his
shots and will be ready before the end of the week. So, please if you are interested in this well
behaved gentleman, let us know. We will be waiting for you.

12/26/03 - Hi all, Colors here, or Cully as they call me around here. This place is neat. I just got here on Sunday and already I got to be spoiled yesterday because of something they call Christmas. I got toys, and bones, and tennis balls. I love tennis balls. And my foster mommy and daddy even said I will be able to take my stuff to my new home with me. Christmas was nice. I even got to open my presents all by myself, and I have to say, I did a pretty good job. I really love toys.
Foster mom says that I have been really good. It's been kind of hectic around here with Christmas and the other dogs and I have had to stay home in our crates a lot, but I've been a good boy. I like my crate ok, but I prefer to be out, especially for bedtime. I like to sleep right on the floor next to mom and dad's bed.
Foster dad said he's going to call my old vet today to see if I need to be updated on anything. If I'm all up to date then I am ready when you are.   Foster mom says that she will write soon to let everyone know my status. I am waiting for my new forever home to call. Talk to you again soon. Love, Colors (Cully)

12/22/03 -  I wanted to introduce you all to our newest foster Colors. Now I know, you are all wondering how he got the name colors. And so was I, that's why I asked his previous owner. When the family got him as a pup their youngest child decided she wanted to name the dog. When she saw that he had brown and black and white on him she said that he had so many different colors on him that she wanted to call him colors. So, the name stuck and he does respond to it well. Colors is a happy, beautiful 3 year old boxer boy. He is nice and stocky and loves when you sit and pet him and play with him. He is getting along great with our two dogs and our three kids. He doesn't seem interested in the cats at all at this point. He is crate trained and fully housebroken. He is on thyroid medication but he doesn't show any medical difficulties with it at all except he tends to drink more. Other than that he is happy and healthy. I will try to get pictures of him as soon as possible. Just wait until you see this big beautiful face. He is the sweetest thing and will fit in probably any home. I don't think we'll have this guy soon, so get your applications in quick. He will get to spend a nice spoiled Christmas with us and then he will be waiting for his new forever home. Watch for updates soon.
