2/15/05 - Well today is Gracie's one
year anniversary with us! We are so happy about this...only it seems
like we've had her forever :) We had a party for her the other night. I
made her a cake using a recipe I found on boxer world and she loved it.
We even got her a party hat and took pictures! She's just a little bit
spoiled :) Gracie has made a lot of progress since coming into our
lives. She is an amazing girl. Full of love, affection, and confidence!
She is very secure with us and I really think she knows that she will be
with us forever. Gracie is full of energy. She loves to play with her
toys, run around the house, and she loves to be outside. She is full of
boxer kisses and she is an expert at the kidney bean. She is very well
behaved. She still has some problems on leash around other dogs but all
in all we couldn't be happier with her. At the moment we are fostering a
puppy and Gracie is wonderful with her. She is so gentle with her. She
shares her toys and wrestles with her. They have such a great time
together. We would like to thank bar for bringing this little girl into
our lives! She is a blessing and we are grateful that we get to give her
the life she deserves!
11/16/04 - Gracie is doing fantastic
since we moved. We lived in a hotel FOUR months and she just made the
best of it. When
we finally got into our new our she was running around with this huge
smile on her face now that she had room to fly around
like a Tasmanian devil.
She has a way of putting a smile on your face regardless of the type of
day you are having. We are truly grateful to have her
in our lives.
8/11/04 - Hi everyone, it's Gracie here! Mom said I should write
and update everyone as to how I'm doing. I'm doing great! I love
my new family and they love me! They tell me that I am the prettiest
boxer girl. Everyone I meet just seems to adore me. There have
been some changes in my life recently. We moved to a place called North
Carolina. Right now we live in a hotel. My mom stays at
home with me all day while dad is at work. So we take long walks on the
walking trails and take frequent trips to the local parks.
My obedience training has made walking so much more enjoyable. Now
instead of taking mom for a walk...she takes me for a walk.
No more pulling! There is even a huge dog park that I get to go to. They
have kiddie pools and a hose. I really like the hose when
it's hot outside :) Sometimes I even get to go to day camp at Petco and
play with the other dogs all day long. We will be moving into
a house soon so I will have my own yard again. I really like it here, I
like it anywhere my mom and dad are. Gracie has been with us
for 6 months now. She is absolutely amazing. We can't imagine life
without her. She is so gentle and full of love.
Her obedience training has worked wonderfully. She can still be a bit
stubborn when she really wants to do something else but she
is so much better. She is well behaved. No accidents since February! She
does not jump on the furniture, other than our bed where
she sleeps. We still need to crate her when we are out because she gets
very nervous when we are not with her. She had her first
experience of me leaving two weeks ago. I had to go back to MA for 10
days and she was here in NC with Kevin. She was so happy
when I got back. But she didn't' want to go in her crate for almost 4
days because she was afraid I would leave again. So she is
learning that we will always come back to her no matter what. Thank you
so much for bringing Gracie into our lives. She truly is a
blessing! :)
7/4/04 - I just want to post an update as to how Gracie is doing.
Gracie is the most wonderful thing to happen to our family, and
continues to make us smile. There is nothing better than coming home
from a tough day and see her big "smile" waiting to greet us.
She had private obedience lessons, and we have been doing training in
the presence of other dogs. She gets a little too excited still,
but we'll work on that. It seems like a common issue with dogs on leash.
I'll try and get some pictures of her, we take lots.
2/26/04 - Just wanted to forward some pictures along and give a
quick update.
Simply put Gracie is wonderful! She feels at home now, she seems to know
the routine.
We have slowly began introducing her to the neighbors, she has met some
other dogs, and she is walking much much better now. She is a big hit
with everyone :)
She visited the vet and they want to give her a fecal test and that she
needs to gain a few pounds. They said her weight is not horrible but
just to not cut back her food and to bring her in to be weighed when we
drop off the specimen.
The pictures attached are her running towards me (away from my dad) with
my parents dog, one of her catching her breath after a long day of
meeting the family, and one of her getting some water. She slept
sooooooo well that night!
Obedience training is next! I'll send a full report :) Thanks, Kevin
2/16/04 - Gracie has been adopted!!!
There was a change of plans. A nice couple met Gracie while she was at
our trainer's and they fell in love. They decided on the spot that they
wanted to adopt her. So, Gracie has a new forever home to call her own.
2/14/04 - Gracie is going to be moved to a new foster home from our
trainer. Her adoptive home was having a few difficulties with her, but
we didn't have any problems with her in her original foster home or at
the trainer. If you keep an eye on her updates you'll be able to follow
along to see how she does!
10/16/03 - She is doing great we are so lucky to have such a
wonderful dog she gets along with everyone all she wants to do is play
in the yard and she gets so excited when I come home from work she jumps
straight up as high as my head she just wants me to chase her in the
backyard and for my son to through the ball she is going to the vet on
the 21st just for a check up and to meet her new vet She has gained more
weight and is looking a lot better.
9/27/03 - It's week 2, and Gracie has settled in just fine. She
now weighs 50lbs,so I guess she likes her new food. she has no problem
going in her crate, and seems to enjoy going in there with her Barbie
sleeping bag. everyday she and i take a long walk in the morning which
she enjoys more than I most times! She and my son are getting along
great, and she has become his best friend. we are so happy to have
Gracie in our family!
9/13/03 - Gracie has been adopted. Pictures on the right show her
with her new family.
9/11/03 - Woof woof from Gracie. I am a changed woman, really.
Yesterday I went to a place called the "vets." I wasn't terribly
impressed with them but Mom said it was a must. I am now spayed (ouch!)
and up to date on all my shots (double ouch!). I am parasite free and do
not have heartworms. While at the vets I met a dog called a rottweiler
and he had a cast that went up his entire right leg. His name was Bear
and he was 200 lbs. Well, did he think he was going to push me around!?
Heck no! My hair stood up and I gave him a piece of my mind. I might be
49 lbs but that didn't bother me. He had a rather bewildered look on his
face as if to say, "Bring it on, short stuff."
Mom says that I am all pup which means that I love to play, play, play.
Mischief plays with me but she tires easily so I need to make sure I
burn off all that energy. Mom says that obedience is a must and that I
would do very well with structured learning. It will also help to
socialize me with other animals. I still like the kitties and Mom says
that all I need is one good swat from them and I will learn to leave
them alone. None of the residents fur balls have done that to me yet so
I guess I will chase them until they get tired of me!
While I was sleeping on my Barbie sleeping bag last evening (yes, I am
pampered!), Mom got a call. She said that it was my new Daddy. My
Forever Home is coming on Saturday to get me. They have a 4 year old who
I am told knows how to respect animals. They also have a kitty (oh boy,
oh boy!) that I can play with. Dad said that the kitty wouldn't have any
problems with swatting me to put me back in my place. Good. That's what
I need.
My Mom is a stay-at-home Mom who is looking for a walking partner. I am
the girl for her! I love to walk and it will help me with my obedience.
She has already signed me up for classes at Petco. They got the whole
scoop on me (I sometimes like to jump, I occasionally counter surf, and
I'm working on my housetraining), and they were very accepting of it
all. They are really looking forward to meeting me. I can't wait. I
finally have a family of my own, a Forever Home.... I am so happy that I
don't have to be moved anymore. Thank you to Jackie, Jennay, and Boxer
Angels for giving me a new life. Hugs and kisses to all. Gracie
9/9/03 - My little Gracie girl is really coming out of her shell.
She and Mischief play CONSTANTLY. Sometimes it gets a little out of
control and they each get a squirt from the spray bottle (no playing
favorites here!) She did have one accident yesterday morning after I
left for work when "Daddy was supposed to be watching"..... Enough said
about that! She is doing much better about jumping and only seems to do
it when she is very, very excited.
I have been cautious about her amount of water after 8 p.m. in order to
avoid accidents during the night. You can imagine my surprise last
evening when the girls were in the kitchen, Dave and I are in the living
room, and I hear, "slurp, slurp, slurp...." I get up, go in the kitchen
and what do I see? Sweet little Gracie on her hind legs, head turned to
the side, with her tongue stuck in the water bowl that was in the
kitchen sink ready for the morning. Little goober. Gotta give her credit
for being creative.
She does show interest in the cats so I did some testing with her last
night. I brought one of the cats to her (held her in my arms) and petted
her nicely saying, "nice kitty Gracie." I then held the cat in front of
Gracie so she could smell her. She sniffed and sniffed. No problem. She
also saw demon kitty through the baby gate and tried sticking her tongue
through the gate to lick him. She will need reinforcement to refrain
from chasing them but she loves to see them run.
9/8/03 - The Come & Go Boxer Bungalow has had a busy weekend. We
were able to transport Duke to Connecticut for surgery on Saturday and
welcomed a new guest on Sunday! Our newest guest is Gracie. She is
approximately 9-12 months old and ALL puppy! She loves to bounce, swat,
and box so a k9 brother or sister is an ideal situation. She does learn
quickly from the resident boxer so she should do just fine. We are
working on not jumping and housetraining. She has not had any accidents
in the house but we make sure she goes outside to do her business on a
frequent basis.
Gracie gobbled down her dinner and has no food aggression issues. She
and Mischief are pals now that the initial introductions are over.
Mischief is past the "puppy play period" so she plays for about 10
minutes and needs to take a catnap. Gracie met the resident fur balls
last evening when she first arrived and had no interest in them. As the
evening went on, she decided to explore the whole furball concept and
thinks it's pretty funny to chase them although she wouldn't harm them.
After walking for about 5 minutes, she calms down on the leash but
obedience is a must.
We would like to thank 3 very special angels who saved Gracie. The first
is a woman who found Gracie tied outside, abandoned, starved, and
choking to death. She saved her and gave her to an angel in PA, Jackie,
who operates a grooming business. Jackie cared for Gracie for 3 months,
slowly nursing her back to health. Jackie contacted BAR who acted
immediately to get Gracie into foster care. Without the help of an angel
named Jennay, we would have had a difficult time transporting Gracie to
New York. Jennay cared for Gracie for a week and drove her to NY on
Saturday. Over the week Jennay had Gracie, she fell in love with her.
Who wouldn't? Many, many thanks to all three angels who gave enough love
to see Gracie into foster care so her Forever Home could find her.
Big, wet kisses from Gracie. We greatly appreciate all you did for her.
Be sure to check back for an update from Gracie.
9/4/03 - The southeast location of Endless Mtns. Boxer Training
Camp has welcomed Gracie! We learned about Gracie in a "through the
rescue grapevine" way and were able to make arrangements to get her into
rescue. She's a very sweet, little girl that was apparently tied to a
fence and left there. A good Samaritan took her into her home and
contacted one person, who contacted another, etc. Gracie seems to be
recovering well from this trauma. She's still a bit thin, but a real
boxer pup in all her glory. She's learning all about housetraining,
walking like a big girl on the leash, meeting folks, playing fetch, etc.
And in just a short time, her "boxerness" is showing to be a good study.
She will definitely need consistent lessons to keep her on the straight
and narrow. As soon as a permanent foster home opens up, Gracie will
take yet another step in her forward journey to being the best boxer she
can be. She's a work in progress . . . . want to get in on the act? Send
in those applications quickly, this girl won't be around long. |
