8/29/04 - Well, we are a month behind on our update so we will fill you in on as much as possible. Harley has now completed his second level obedience class and will be going for his CGC Certification (Canine Good Citizenship)  He now goes to "drop in" classes with Saturn and we have a blast! They both still get along famously and now no longer in there cages. We still keep them confined to one bedroom while we are not home, but have completely removed and put away their crates. We are still having some chewing of furniture/pillows but have made sure nothing of importance is in there. We know he will get past this and we will eventually be able to let them roam the house freely.  Since day one Harley has been a great dog and perfect match for the three of us. His tail still wags as much as it did the first day and know we are loved by him and he is loved by us.

Harley is doing so well, but not like that is any surprise to us. He has been so good since day one. He has completed his first session of training and past with flying colors. He starts the next session tomorrow. He and Saturn are still getting along very well, they are inseparable. We did try letting Harley and Saturn have freedom in their room (we weren't crating them) for about a week, unfortunately we had an incident with chewing on the furniture so we went back to the crates for a while. We will be trying again soon, since Harley will be one (we think!). Anyway, as all of our updates have gone, he is a wonderful dog and we couldn't have been luckier that he found us.

Harley has fit in perfectly to his new home. He has started his training and absolutely loves Pete (the trainer) As we said last month he is a quick learner - he has done so well and excelled so far at everything he has to do. He actually doesn't mind bath time too much which is a nice treat compared to Saturn, our other boxer. He crying has remained pretty much the same except for night time, that has actually improved a little - when the alarm goes off in the morning he knows it's time to get up and cries until he hears us moving around. We are still crating him, definitely during the day, but we also crate them at night as we have come to find out that Harley likes to wake up in the middle of the night and play... Harley is a perfect fit for our home and we are so glad that he chose us for his forever home...More next month...

Harley is doing great!! He is so energetic and gets along with our other boxer, Saturn, extremely well. It's like they grew up together. He will be starting training in two weeks, but has already learned so much. Sometimes he is better than Saturn who has been in training since he was a puppy. He is used to the routine and has learned to lift his paw for us when we wipe their feet after coming in from outside. He is the perfect match for Saturn and for us. Oddly enough, we looked and looked for a dog like him for almost a year and he was literally right around the corner from us. We want to thank everyone who helped him through the rough times and helped us find him and his forever home!! Talk to you next update....By the way, when he cries he sounds like Chubaka from Star Wars, we still laugh, even after a month.

I just got my one week update call from Harley's adoptive family. Things could not be going better for them. Harley and Saturn play non-stop, share their toys, snuggle up on the couch together. Kevin and Dani couldn't be happier with Harley and can't wait to start obedience with him. They have been continuing where I left off and are amazed at how quickly he learns. Great placement BAR!

Kajika, now named Harley, went home with Kevin and Dani and his new brother Saturn today. Saturn and Harley really hit it off and were nothing but wiggle butts and kisses. These two boys are going to keep mom and dad on their toys! Two boxers under a year? The energy was through the roof. I know Harley will be spoiled and never want for anything. I couldn't be happier with this placement.

3/8/04 - Kajika is pending adoption.

3/6/04 -
Kajika had his vet check and everything seems to be in order. He has gained some weight while which he needed and is starting to look like a strong healthy boxer. But he could still use a few more pounds to get those hip bones to disappear completely. Kajika sprained his leg a couple of days ago while out romping with his foster brother. Due to his high activity level, he is not healing as quickly as we would like. We are getting to continue to keep him as calm as possible for the next couple of days to see how he does. Not easy to keep this little jumping bean quiet!
Kajika continues to do well with his learning the basics but will most definitely need a family committed to bringing him to school. Please let us know if your family might be the one for him.

3/3/04 -
It has been a wild couple of days with little Kajika. The energy this pup has is amazing but can be used up playing with another dog. He met my male Jake yesterday and they ran and played for hours. After that romp session, Kajika finally was ready for some good snuggling for the first time
since his arrival. He is just so sweet! He crawled in my lap and rested his head on my shoulder for about 15 minutes and then was ready to play again.
Kajika is your typical puppy and will get into trouble if not watched. So far his favorite off-limits objects are shoes, slippers, and socks. This guy stole the slipper right off my foot the other morning. Thankfully he is a pretty quick learner and is picking up "leave it" and "drop it" with just a squirt of water as re-enforcement. He is really coming along with the basics of sit, down, off. Stay is still just so hard for this jumping bean but I am sure that with some effort and patience, he will get that in no time as well. Same with the chewing. when he starts in on us, we say ow! and no! then just substitute a chew toy. Eventually he will get the idea.
Kajika does crate well so that keeps him out of trouble when we are not around. Right now we still have to keep him separate from my dominant female, so he is gated in the family room. Or least we tried that but this guy sails over a baby gate like he has wings. He stays if you are on the same side of the gate as him but will jump to get to you. Kajika just wants to play with my girl but she is a little rough when first meeting a dog so we take things very slowly with her.
We have a vet check today and then this little one should be all set to go. If you have the time and patience to show Kajika how to be a good pup, please contact us. We love having him here and will be sad to see him leave, but he needs a home of his own.

3/1/04 -
Kajika is beginning to settle in. He is so full of energy! He doesn't walk anywhere, he bounces! Since he arrived yesterday afternoon the only time he was down was while we were in bed. He slept in his crate last night but only for a couple of hours. He did cry for the first 10 minutes or so and then again when he woke up at 5am. He definitely needs some work on his chewing habits. He hasn't touched furniture or walls, but loves to grab hold of your feet, hands, clothes, hair, really anything attached to you. He will need some ongoing obedience to direct all this energy into more appropriate behaviors. He does know sit but only listens when he thinks it's worth the trouble. So far he doesn't seem to know much else but we will work on that while he's here. Kajika is very tall for his age and is going to be on the large size for a boxer. At nine months, he is already taller than both my pups who are 70lbs a piece. I have a feeling this guy won't be around long!

2/29/04 -
Kajika has made his way down to South Jersey. He is a very active, cute brindle boy of about 9 months. He has the longest docked tail I have ever seen. His family was sad to see him leave but knew they did not have the time or energy to keep up with this one. I am sure my guys will have him tired in no time! I will write more once we have had a chance to settle in a little bit.
Oh, in case you are wondering, apparently Kajika is a Native American word meaning "silent one". His family said he barked maybe 3 times while they had him. We'll see if it stays like that with my loud mouths around!
