10/16/04 - It is with a VERY heavy heart that today we surrendered Hunter to BAR. . Hunter is so wonderful!! For the new lucky family we want to share our daily lifestyle. Lots of hugs and kisses. Hunter is so very affectionate. He would always like to touch us. If we were stationary he would sit on or at our feet. We fed him little people food as it upset his system. Eukunaba for active dogs seemed to produce less gas and a happier Hunter. We always left a full bowl for both Hunter and our Border collie to eat from. Hunter was always welcome to climb into bed with the kids and preferred to at night. Only when his diet was human did he have accidents and then it was by the door. We never yelled at him because I really think it was accident. He ran on 5 acres that had invisible fencing. He NEVER attempted to cross even with cat, dog or otherwise temptations. He allowed my 3 year old daughter to pull on him, sit on him and eat in front of him. I love him as do all 3 of my children with all our hearts. We have locks of hair and photos to cherish our near year with him. It was for his protectiveness only, that he had to leave us. He is so loving caring and a wonderful dog. Hunter, your so beautiful.... best of life to your boxer angel life. Love, Yvette, Amy, Brad and Ashley.

8/17/04 - Hi all you Angels out there! Hunter is SUPER! He is a dream doggie. We were having problems here and there with him going big potty by the door at night. we were even letting him out late. We started putting him in his crate again at night and I really think he is happy there. Sometimes he will even go in during the day to "Chill". So, nothing else major to report. Were just thrilled to have Hunter with us.

6/21/04 - Hi everyone.  Hunter is awesome.  He now weighs 80 lbs.  He is not fat but a big solid sweetie.  I need to post photos!  He is so beautiful.  Thanks Bar!

5/17/04 - Hello all.  Hunter is doing awesome.  He has slept in his dog bed now a few times.  Otherwise, he is still sleeping with my son in his bed.  He is playing and eating and of course sleeping.  As usual he is a great boy.

4/12/04 - Hello Everyone! Hunter just keeps on getting more and more settled. With each day we see him relaxing and showing us his loving personality. At first he was not so wiggly. We would get little tail wags now and then. Now he is wagging his entire little butt when someone comes home. He also wags and listens when we talk to him. It is cute because as he learns that we are talking to him he shares his feeling with his expressions on his face. His face is like a wrinkle-o-meter. Hunter can still put us on Ignore, but that is becoming less and less. Oh, how we love him. We are hoping to attend the NJ Boxer expo to visit eveyone. Thanks BAR. Yvette, Hunter and family.

3/15/04 - Hello!  Hunter is the most wonderful boy.  He runs and plays, its so cute the way he bounds like a doe.  Lately he runs with all his might... I think he really enjoys the farm.  He's great about
staying away from the horses. I only had to scold him once!  He and our Border Collie, Scoobie, are
doing very well.  Hunter can really be a GAS!  ha ha get it.  He is loving, kind, respectful with
our 3yr old.   I not greedy with his food.  He now has a on demand bowl and he just eats when he
wants.  He is not greedy and is so relaxed.  He loves sleeping in the bed with us.  I really need to
get him a dog bed as he is a cover hog.... on the other side he is so cuddly. I love him so much.
Everyone does.  We are so thankful for Hunter.  I hope he feels secure and happy.  He also loves
going bye bye.  The other day I got him a plain burger then at DQ the guy gave him some ice cream
in a cup!  Now when the baby and I go anywhere, there's Hunter trying to get into the truck!
Everyday, he blooms a little bit more... I wish and hope for happiness like we have for all the
other boxer angels out there.  Yvette and family.

2/7/04 - Hunter has been adopted.
Hunter's new family made a very long drive (5 1/2 hrs...one way) to get him this a.m.  Hunter loved everyone (which I expected)...what I didn't anticipate was how completely gentle and courteous he was of the little girl.  He didn't so much as bump into her.  He quietly followed her around as she burned off some energy in our living room...then he lay down and started to doze off while we made the adoption official.  They absolutely adore him...and the feeling appears to be mutual.

1/31/04 - Hunter is pending adoption.

1/27/04 - “Dude, Where’s my home???”. I keep asking everybody here and they keep telling me, “take it easy, Hunter...you’re very own family is out there”....but I don’t think I can wait much longer. I’m all like ‘yeah, it’s cool’...but inside I’m wondering what my own family will be like, ya know? So I’m killin’ time playing with my girlfriend Maria....well, she’s not like, ya know, a real girlfriend since I can’t think of her that way....ever since my little operation a few weeks ago. But anyways....it’s cool... and we get really crazy playing in the house till the ol’ lady says to chill. She’s all like, ‘you two take it outside’....but dude.....it’s so COLD out there. We run out and turn around and run right back in. I told Maria they coulda saved a bundle on that operation of mine....coulda just made me stand outside for a few minutes and everything would freeze solid. This place here is ok....there’s that old grampa guy, Jonah...I’m real careful not to bump into him cause he’s got arthritis and moves really slow. He sleeps next to my crate at night which I think is cool, since I never had a grampa before......’cept that he snores and there’s some other funky sounds that come out of his body...but I guess that goes with being a grampa. And that other tall, skinny guy, Casey....he’s is one paranoid dude! He gets all nervous when me and Maria are playing and he starts barking. I’m like, ‘whatever’....and just ignore him. There’s some kids here too. I like playing with them but I found out they don’t like it so much when I grab the drawstrings on their clothes and try to pull them around. So I’m trying to remember not to do that. Know what I found out? I figured out that if someone says “Hunter cut it out!” or “Hunter, SIT”....that if I sit and look at them like “I am SO sorry...I don’t know what I was thinking running through the house like that”....that they go “awwww...he’s so CUTE!”. Then I get hugs and kisses. Which is awesome! And when the ol’ man talks to me, I get so happy, my butt wiggles...which he thinks is hysterical coming from a big, strong dude like me.   SoI guess things are pretty cool here....about the only thing that would be better would be to get my own home.  C'mon... check me out....we might make an awesome team!

1/18/04 - Hunter is doing great!!! He is all recovered from his neuter and is back to playing with Maria.....he wanted to jump right back into the swing of things, but we had to restrict his activity for a while so he could heal up. Of course, we’ve had a spell of dangerously cold weather ( a couple days of –40 windchill) so the dogs have had to learn to play inside without destroying our home. All in all, Hunter has adapted well. He and Maria can spend hours ‘jawing’....their favorite place for this fun boxer activity is under the kitchen table. So we let them have their fun and when Maria has had enough, she finds a place for her nap.....which is when Hunter does some of his best maneuvering. He lays down, a respectable distance, then little by little, a few inches at a time, moves closer and closer till he has his head resting on her and doesn’t even wake her. So sweet. As rambunctious as Hunter can be when he plays, he is quite good at giving our older dogs their space. He steers clear of our rather stand-offish greyhound and never gets rough with our elderly, arthritic yellow Lab. Very submissive and respectful of ‘their space’. This is just a great Boxer boy...full of fun and energy and all ready for a family of his own.

1/7/04 - We’ll have to get some new pictures to show you how big and handsome Hunter has become in just a short time. We knew from the start that he was a looker, but now that his body is filling out so nicely, and he’s gotten so much stronger and healthier....well, he’s definitely going to turn heads when he goes for a walk! And speaking of walks, Hunter’s leash skills are really coming along nicely. Yes, when he sees something that catches his eye he still likes to pull. But overall, he listens well and usually stays close with just a little leash correction. Hunter is a very playful boy. One of his favorite things to do is go to the toy basket and take out every single toy, one at a time, play with it for a few seconds...and then go grab another...till they are scattered all over the living room in about ten minutes flat. He tries to get the other dogs to play tug of war with him, but Hunter always wins so no-one is too interested in playing that game anymore. He’s been very good when playing with our school-age kids. But Hunter might be overwhelming for a toddler because he doesn’t seem to know his own strength and he can plow into people when he’s playing...but he’s just right for someone who can handle his young boxer boy exuberance.
We’ve left Hunter for several hours (3-5 hours) during the day, crated. He seems to be just fine....very quiet when I leave and usually napping when I get home. Whether he does any whining when I’m gone, I just don’t know as we don’t have close neighbors...but he’s never stressed at all. With a good amount of playtime before and after his ‘quiet time’ he should do great. Hunter will be neutered tomorrow...then ready to go off with his forever family. Sure hope your application is in because Hunter is too good to pass up!

12/30/03 - Hunter went to the vet today for a pre-neuter physical. Good news...Hunter has gained 5# in the last week. When listening to his heart, the vet noticed a mild heart murmur (approx. a grade 2) which won’t prevent Hunter from being neutered, but we would like him to gain a little more weight and have some time to regroup from his recent vaccinations. So we scheduled Hunter’s neuter for Jan. 8. What a good boy Hunter was for the vet....even getting comfortable and almost dozing on the exam table.
We are really enjoying having Hunter here. He’s just getting along so well with the residents and he is a big snuggle bug. He sleeps in his crate at night...all night, no problem at all. If we have to be out for a while during the day, Hunter is also crated. He shows no stress whatsoever...just goes in and takes a nap. Now, Hunter is still a young boy and would likely get more anxious and get into more mischief if left free to roam the house by himself. But that’s what crates are for. When others are home, Hunter is just one of the gang...His house manners are really very good for such a young guy...no counter surfing, no chewing on furniture (but he does find all the dog toys), no crazy boxer play indoors...we couldn’t ask for a nicer guest. But a guest he is....and Hunter needs a forever home of his own. Don’t delay in finding out if your home could be the one.

12/29/03 - We're settling in with Hunter here in the frozen north, otherwise known as Central New York, and I must say that we're very impressed so far. In the short time he's been here, Hunter has shown himself to be quite a friendly guy who enjoys playing with our boxer girl Maria, yet is pretty respectful of the older guys. Hunter is eating well here...very well. Besides his hearty meals of kibble, hamburger, and rice (with gravy)...he checks out whatever someone else may be snacking on. In fact, bring out the cheese and there's an immediate fountain of drool. I think Maria has some competition in the begging department. We're pretty sure Hunter was allowed to play 'rough' with his people when outside. He's very well behaved in the house but outdoors, he likes to jump and grab at my jacket or pant-leg. This is just not acceptable and Hunter has to learn that people are not Boxers (well, some are, but let's not confuse the issue). Interestingly, when Hunter gets too boisterous, all I need to do is pick up the end of the leash and he immediately stops his rough-housing. Then I can toss a ball and he runs after it...so he'll catch on very quickly. Hunter also knows 'sit' (especially for a treat) and teaching him 'down' is going to be a breeze...'anything for food' is his motto. He just loves people attention and we've gotten some nice kisses and snuggles already.
Oh, and Hunter is housetrained...and does his business outside almost on command. He did go to lift his leg on one of the kitchen chairs. I happened to be on the phone and my first reaction was to wave my arm from across the room (as if that's going to do anything)...but guess what...he stopped just that fast and scooted away. Neutering should take care of any 'marking' tendencies and that will be scheduled very soon. Then he should be off to some lucky family...one who will give Hunter the love and attention he deserves.

12/28/03 - Hunter arrived safely this afternoon...thanks toCindee and Ken, Gail, Katie, and especially James and Di who got the boy out of the shelter and kept him safe and sound for a few days while my house emptied out of its holiday company.  Hunter's doing great...he's played outside with Maria, kicked around the ball, eaten a nice lunch, and now is chillin'.  More to come.......

12/27/03 - Greetings from Boxer Mountain! We picked up Hunter two days before Christmas from a CT Dog Pound. Seems like Hunter was taken into the shelter some time in October. He was adopted but came back. The shelter feels that Hunter needs to be in a home where someone is home most of the time or that has another dog to keep him company as he does not like to be alone, and that is when he has accidents.  Hunter was very depressed while being in the shelter and would not eat. As a result, this poor handsome boy...is just skin and bones. He needs to gain about 15 to 20 pounds. Hunter is eating like a champ here on Boxer Mountain! Three BIG meals a day. No appetite loss for Hunter.......the only thing he doesn't eat is the bowl. And he just loves to have lot's of cheese for snacks. Hunter has been spending much of his time here crated.......only because we have so many of our own. But he is EXCELLENT in the crate. Hunter did have a couple of accidents in the crate.....but we blame ourselves for not taking him out late in the evening....plus Hunter came to us with very loose stools. He has been outdoors in our fenced yard with several of our dogs and he just wants to play......shows no aggression with our dogs. Hunter seems to be a little "food-protective" with our crew if they get close to his crate when he's eating. Hunter needs a lot of obedience training by owners that are familiar with the Boxer breed. Our Vet commented that he feels Hunter will be a very good boy....just needs lot's of TLC and lot's of training. OH!! AND BY THE WAY!!! HUNTER IS JUST SOOOOO GOOD LOOKIN'!!!!!
