Pertinent Information
9/19/06
-
We are heartbroken to say that
Kristy has gone to the bridge. She was diagnosed with Diabetes
Inspidus and cushings disease late last year. By July of this
year, we were no longer able to keep her comfortable. Her
arthritis was so bad she could barely walk and often fell. She
was happy and well loved while with us and we will always miss her.
3/31/04 - Kristy has made herself very comfortable in her new home. We have her on glucosamine treatments and rimadyl for her arthritis so she is enjoying a re-newed puppyhood. Kristy gets into trouble whenever she can but gives you the saddest, sweetest eyes that you can't be mad at her. We have learned to keep the front window curtains open so she can see outside when we are gone or she will rip them off the wall. She is such a love bug and loves to snuggle up with anyone who will let her. She can't wait to go for rides in the car and she really doesn't care where you're going, as long as she can come along. We are all very happy to have Kristy here. 2/1/04 - Kristy is settling in nicely to her new home. She has totally taken over the place and worked her way into our hearts. She is sweet, happy and very well-behaved, although she does think it's her job to alert the neighborhood of every little noise outside. Kristy has been having trouble walking and getting up and down stairs so we are bringing her to the vet this week. Hopefully they will be able to give her some meds to help with the stiffness and soreness. Thankfully we only have 3 steps down to get to the back door and everything else is on one level. My oldest daughter came over with her fiancé to meet Kristy and they both just fell head over heels with her. You can't help but love this one! She is very tricky though. The other night her new daddy had just about fallen asleep when he heard Kristy walk down the hall and then across the kitchen to the back door. She came back into his room and just stood by the bed waiting. So Dad rolled over, turned on the light and asked if she had to go out. Well she did her normal potty dance and Dad got up to let her out. But as soon as he got out of bed, Kristy jumped in and snuggled under the covers! She had tricked him out of his own bed! 1/24/04 - My first foster has officially gone home. My parent's are the proud new boxer parents of our little Kristy-Bird and I couldn't be happier. She is only 4 blocks from me so I can visit with her anytime I want. She gets along so well with Danny and my parents already love her. Trust me when I say she will be completely spoiled! 1/23/04 - KRISTY IS PENDING ADOPTION! 1/17/04 - Kristy has been with for a week now and I have already totally fallen for her. She is so sweet and one of the happiest dogs I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She is all wiggles and kisses and so well behaved. And the best of all, she has so much energy and wants to play all the time. She is constantly bringing us toys and trying to get our boxers to play. Too bad my guys are too rough for her. We are still working on getting them to play nice and gentle so they don't get too much interaction except through the baby gates. None of this is Kritsy, I just happen to have rough, loud boxers who are much bigger than her. Hopefully soon my guys will learn to play nice. Kristy continues heal very well from her surgery. Since she is still stiff in her one leg, we started her on glucosomine tabs to see if that helps it out. The stiffness certainly doesn't slow her down though. We got about 6 inches of snow the other day and while my big babies were inside refusing to go play, Kristy was out running around and burying her face in the snow! I did nickname her Bird because when she gets really excited she does this adorable little hip hop that reminds me of a sparrow. She is just an all-around wonderful guest and I love having her but she really deserves a home of her own. 1/10/04 - Kristy came home from the vet on Thursday, and is looking wonderful. The had a lump removed from under her right eye, and the vet did a very nice job. No cosmetic surgery necessary for this girl :o))) She spent the night at the vet, and she was, of course, a wonderful guest. This vet sees MANY of our BAR dogs, and they could not help but comment about our Kristy girl. One of the vets could not believe she was a rescue dog. "How could someone give up a girl like this" he asked? When I explained the circumstances of her owner moving...well....he just rolled his eyes. My feelings exactly.
Now that Kristy has had
her surgery, we are going to move her to a "less active"
foster home, so that we will have space availability for dogs that
need to get out of some "not so nice" situations. Unfortunately,
dogs like Kristy, because of their age, stay in foster care longer
then some of our younger guys. It is truly sad, because as you can
tell from her updates, she is just a totally wonderful dog. This
girl should be in her own forever home already, and honestly, if my
home were not already over full, this girl would not be going
anywhere. But even we have our limits in dogs, and if we keep just
one more, we would not be able to foster anymore, and we just wont
do that. To many dogs need our help. Kristy, even at 9, has just so
much to offer. She knows everything she need to know to be the model
citizen she is. She is a total love bug, and only asks to be loved,
nothing else.
I try to explain to
anyone who will listen that life is guaranteed to no living
creature. Many say they are worried about adopting a older dog, for
fear that they will not have them very long. My response is that we
do not know how long we will have ANY of our 4 legged loves, whether
they are 1 yr or 10 yrs old. AND, love is not something you measure
in years, you measure it in quality. And this girl will give you a
quality of love you could not ask for more of. So, instead of
worrying about how much longer any of these dogs have, why not step
up and ask for this girl, trust me, they will be the best years of
YOUR life, as well as hers.
So Kristy girl, good luck
to you, we are sure going to miss you, but we know you are going to
be loved in your new foster home, and VERY soon in your forever
home. Love you my Kristy girl!
1/1/04 - My Kristy girl just keeps surprising me
more and more. I brought in a VERY skinny shelter boy named Diamond,
and in a very short time she has taken to him like a nurturing mom.
They are outside together, and she is running along side him, biting
at his ankles (a boxer play trait). Now this boy Diamond is maybe a
bit over 1 yr old, and she is initiating the play. When they are in
the house, she will lick his face and show him extra attention. It is
almost like she knows this boy has had it rough, and want to comfort
and care for him. What a good girl!!
12/17/03 - Well, it's time to update you all on
the newest addition to the Wings & Halo Haven, my little Kristy
girl. What a SWEET, pleasant personality this girl has. She is just a
pleasure to have and be around.
12/13/03 - Kristy has been moved to a foster
home with no cats. Doug and I both shed some tears pulling away
in our car. We could see Kristy just staring at us like "where
are you going???". But we know that there is a wonderful
(cat-less) home that awaits her. She is such a great boxer girl. She
is going to make some family VERY, VERY happy with her Boxer Kisses
and Boxer Dance! 12/8/03 - Wouldn’t you just love a Beautiful Bouncing Boxer girl to celebrate the holiday season with? I’m sure Kristy would look adorable with a beautiful holiday bow on her collar. She is just a wonderful girl. She knows her commands very well and is fully housebroken. She gets along great with our Boxer, so I’m certain she would blend right in with your dog if you already have one. All she wants to do is give you love, love, and more love! All she asks in return is for you to love her back and give her a few stuffed animals and tennis balls to play with. We would keep her for ourselves; except for the fact that we have cats and she thinks cats are interactive chew toys. And don’t let her age discourage you from bringing her into your heart and home. You would never guess she was an older gal from her personality and playfulness. She tires out our 3 year old Boxer! And she is just great with our 2-year-old son also. All Kristy wants this holiday season is her own forever home with a family that would enjoy boxer kisses and snuggle time! Please consider taking her into your hearts and home. I know you won’t regret it!! 12/1/03 - Kristy here! Foster mom and dad finally got their computer fixed at home – so they’re letting me write about myself. I have to say it’s very nice here. They have a 3 year old Boxer (Max) whom I love to play with. We never cause any trouble when we’re home alone. Okay, maybe some of our blankets and toys are scattered all around from all our playing. And there was a stuffed animal I wasn’t supposed to play with and I chewed it big time. But they said it wasn’t my fault, it was theirs for leaving it in my reach. And there was the one stuffed animal they put up in the center of the dining room table. I didn’t touch it for a few days so they thought I couldn’t reach it. But I could! Now they store things way out of my reach. They have a 2-year-old son who is a lot of fun. He likes playing with me and I am very good around him. Once in a while he even tries to climb on me like a horse. Mom and dad quickly tell him no and take him off, but I never make a peep about it. I used to sleep in my own little room at night – behind a babygate (so the cats could roam around the whole house at night without me chasing them). I didn’t mind sleeping in that room for the first 3 weeks I was here, but I just decided I had enough of it. I wanted to cuddle in the same room with Max. So I put up a REAL BIG fuss with lots of whining and crying and pacing all night and they gave in. They let me sleep in the living room and Max stays with me. He used to always sleep with them, but not anymore. We enjoy sleeping near each other and don’t bother them all night! Foster mom and dad enjoy not having to share their bed with a 75 lb. Boxer! I still love giving my foster family lots of kisses when they come home and the 2 year old is even starting to enjoy them. But I’ve gotten better and not licking their faces as much as I used to. Well time to go – I have lots of things to do today: Bark at garbage men, chew stuffed animals, wrestle with Max, find a tennis ball, the list is endless. Such a busy, busy life!! 11/24/03 - Sweet, sweet, sweet!! And energetic!! That is the only way to describe Miss Kristy!! We’ve recently discovered, on accident, that she likes to play with socks. We were gathering up a pair of socks to put on our 2 year old and Kristy’s eyes just lit up and she quickly stole one away. She also enjoys her occasional romp with a stuffed animal or ball. She will definitely do best in a home that already has a dog, as she LOVES playing with our Max. Otherwise she would need to be in a home where someone is around most of the time. She definitely wants to have company nearby all the time. We’re still working on the kitty situation – her interest in chasing our cats has not waned at all. Our little Kristy does have a growth on her face, which our vet has recommended removing. So on December 10th we will be bringing her in for this surgery. I’m sure we’ll have many more wonderful stories to tell about this girl! 11/17/03 - After having some time to adapt to her new surroundings, Kristy is settling in. She knows her commands very well, except for "off" which we need to practice. For a 9 year old she has lots of energy. She gets down right feisty playing with our boxer. They'll go at it with each other for about 15 minutes a few times each day. If it weren't for the arthritis in her back knees, you would never guess she was a senior lady. The arthritis only hinders her ability to get on and off the furniture. And she has trouble getting into the sit position. Kristy has a very cute bark, which she uses to alert us that she sees someone nearby outside. Her worst trait, if you can even call it that, is her insistence to "lick the skin off your face" with her exuberant kisses. Our two year old is quickly learning to say "no", as he pushes her face away. He does not like the wet kisses at all. But Kristy just can't resist that cute face at her height to kiss!! She has proven herself trustworthy and is allowed full access to our living room and dining room, when we are not at home. 11/11/03 - We are convinced that Kristy is a 3 year old trapped in the body of a 9 year old. She and our Boxer (who is 3) love to play and romp with each other. She would definitely enjoy a household with another dog who is looking for a playmate. She was a doll at the vet’s office even with all the poking and prodding and everyone just fell in love with her. And whether you’ve been out of her sight for 5 hours or 5 minutes, she kisses you (licks your face) as if you’ve been gone for 5 days. We are working on toning down her exuberant, wet greetings. She is very interested in our cats. One of them will hang out on our stairway landing looking down at her (from behind the protective baby gate). She whimpers and cries wanting to make contact so I’ve brought her upstairs (on leash) to meet them. As our cats are highly unsociable with dogs, we’re having a tough time getting them to mingle around Kristy. She isn’t lunging after them, but I’m erring on the side of caution by not letting her go off-leash with them yet. She is such a sweet and loving lady! 11/7/03 - Kristy is a lovely older lady who just wants someone to give her lots and lots of love. She has been a fabulous guest these past few days! She did have one pee accident in the house, but it was completely my fault. I was busy doing dishes and she was dancing around in back of me. The poor thing was trying her hardest to say “HELLO, I HAVE TO GO!!!” and I was just oblivious. She also had an unauthorized encounter with one of our cats. It was midnight and our Boxer needed to go out. So as soon as hubby let Max out, he decided to see if Kristy had to go too. She bolted out of her room right into the dining room in full pursuit of a cat. Being it was so late and dark, we don’t know if she wanted to eat the cat or just play with it. We’ll be doing proper introductions to evaluate her true feelings shortly. This girl is such a doll to have around. I know we’ll have some wonderful stories to tell about her!!
11/2/03 - Kristy is an absolute doll!!!
She was wonderful on the hour ride to the Boxer Resort & Spa.
It was such a beautiful day yesterday that we took her for a few walks
on our street and she made friends with everyone from 2 year olds right
on up to adults. She has lots of energy and has so much love to
give. She yearns to give you tons of kisses and just snuggle up
with you. 11-1-03 - This sweet lady is now in Boxer Angels Rescue. Thanks to Jane M. for springing her and driving her all the way to her temporary foster home. Today she will be making the short journey to her permanent foster home in CT. Thanks Tina and Michele for volunteering for this transport We will have more updates on Kristi from her new foster home soon. 10/31/03 - UPDATE FROM SHELTER: This sweet girl would love to get out of the shelter and be laying on a nice soft dog bed. She was examined by the vet tech and found to have a mass that will need further medical examination. Her rear legs are also weak. She is a very beautiful girl who would love to have a new home. Can you make her dreams come true? Are there any Boxer lovers out there that can open their hearts to a dog that really needs help? Please, consider adopting her today THIS IS A 9 YEAR OLD FEMALE BOXER WHO WEIGHS 48 LBS AND WAS SURRENDERED BECAUSE HER OWNERS WERE MOVING AND COULD NOT TAKE HER WITH THEM. SHE IS ALREADY SPAYED, HOUSEBROKEN, GOOD WITH DOGS, CATS AND CHILDREN. SHE WOULD MAKE A GREAT DOG FOR ANY FAMILY. PLEASE COME SEE HER RIGHT AWAY. |
