12/13/05 -
Dear BAR Friends,
It is with deep sadness that I inform you that Mikey passed away on Nov.
27, 2005. He was not in any pain. He peacefully fell asleep
in our family room and did not wake up. Although we only had him
for a 1 1/2 years, it seemed much longer. He was a wonderful
companion and a loyal part of our family. He is deeply missed.
We are so thankful that BAR took him in and allowed us to give him his
forever home for the remainder of his senior years. He was loved by all
who met him and will always have a special place in our hearts.
Thank you for all the work you do.
1/25/05 - I just asked my 4 and 5
year old what we should say about Mikey and simultaneously they said,
"WE LOVE HIM!" Mikey has been with us for just shy of a year and
he's doing great. He enjoys the
snow and had a great Christmas with us (outside of eating the pumpkin
pie the Aunt Melissa brought).
He has become quite a counter surfer and garbage thief, but we've made
adjustments to reduce his
temptations. He was diagnosed with diabetes insipidous (hopefully
spelled correctly), but we give
him eye drops 1x/day which help him to concentrate his urine so there
haven't been any accidents.
Otherwise he's healthy as can be. Loves to lounge in front of the fire
during a snow storm and
give lots of kisses.
7/25/04 - Mikey has been great!! He has really settled in nicely
and it seems like he's been here forever.
He's been on vacation with us twice. Once to Cape Cod where he was a
wonderful house guest for
his grandparents. He didn't bother with their cat and enjoyed the walks
by the beach. No waves for
Mikey though. He walked on the beach with us but kept his distance from
the waves. He has also
traveled to Lake Winnipesauke, NH. He is the best traveler. Not a peep.
He just relaxed and
slept the whole way. Wish we could say the same for the skin kids! Again
he enjoyed his walks and
lounging by the lake with the family. He was more amiable to the lake
since it was calmer. So he
did get his feet wet. Apparently, there wasn't enough activity at our
cottage, so he left and took
up with a family about 4 houses away. They had a dog and several
children so he went for a visit.
We called him for awhile and then needed to leave for scheduled boat
ride. As we were driving up
the lake I saw a fawn color, sausage shaped animal relaxing in the sun
with another family. I
knew it was Mikey. When we returned, I walked to the cottage and
retrieved him. He was patiently
waiting for some scraps from this families breakfast. He played well
with their dog and used his
best manners. He did look a little guilty when I showed up. Overall we
love having him. he's the
easiest and most well behaved dog. We couldn't be happier. Thank you
BAR!!
5/18/04 - We're a little behind on our update for Mikey, but he's
been doing great. He is a little bit of a garbage stealer and cat food
eater, but otherwise a great dog. He's been enjoying the warm weather
and we often can't get him to leave his sunny spot on the deck. He's a
great passenger in the car and loves to go for walks. He's a great
protector as well. We've had a little work done at
the house since Mikey's been here and he stays close by the workers at
all times. He's wiggling and friendly, but doesn't let them out of his
sight. He won't even sit or lay down. I've had to put him in his crate
so he could rest. With a treat of course since he took such good care of
us. Another interesting thing about Mikey is that he has taken a
particular liking to my dad (who happens to be the same age as Mikey).
Mikey usually sees me (the female) in the house as the alpha and
responds quickly and stays close by. When my dad visits he stays close
to him, follows him and sits at his feet. He's even tried to climb in
his lap! My dad has severe arthritis in his knees as well as Parkinson's
and walks with a cane. We think Mikey may sense his fragility and is
staying close by. Who knows, but that's the only one he does it to. Well
Mikey has won over the whole family immediate and extended. Thank you
BAR for our angel!!!!
3/4/04 - Hi Everyone, I just want to tell you all how wonderful Mikey
has been. He's been with us for 1month and it seems like forever. He has
made himself at home and we just love him. We've had alot of company
this past month and he has been the perfect host. He greets everyone
with lots of wiggles and leans and boxer kisses. He loves his walks and
rides in the truck. I usually take him out or on our errands in the am
and then we're home in the afternoon. That's when he naps! He always
finds a warm sunny spot in the family room. I did take him to the vet
for a checkup and his fecal tests came back normal. Mikey's foster mom
told me there was a concern about worms, but he's all clear. The vet was
concerned about high enzyme levels in his blood and the fact that his
urine was very
diluted. So he is going in for an ultrasound of his pancreas and we're
going to send in another
sample of urine. I have been reading your information about Cushing's
and he does have some of the
same symptoms so I'll bring that up and keep you posted Thank you for
all the work you do and for
bringing Mikey to us. We can't imagine being without him. Let's go
seniors!!!!!!!!!!
2/3/04 - Mikey has been adopted.
I'm sure everyone will be very happy to hear that Mikey has a new home!
And he lives only about 20/30 minutes from his foster home!! He has a
wonderful new family -- mom, dad and two skin brothers (ages 3 & 5).
They all just love him like crazy. It was love at first sight. But that
doesn't surprise me at all! And he has a fur sibling (a cat). They've
briefly met each other and Mikey just wiggled his butt at the kitty, and
then acted like "whatever". He is going to be absolutely spoiled rotten
by his new family! We are so happy for all of them!! And of course -
we'd be willing to "baby sit" him anytime they'd like!
1/28/04 - Hi Everyone! It’s Mikey here! Foster mom is real good
about letting me write some of my own updates. I am still having a very
good time here and behaving myself as always! But I am REALLY looking
forward to getting my own forever home. Me and the 2 year old were
playing some fetch the other day. He doesn’t have the best throw yet,
but I’m patient with him and run after it wherever he manages to throw
it. Even if it is only a few feet away. I have a glucosomine tablet that
I take which makes my bones feel better in this cold weather and the 2
year old just loves to be the one to give it to me. He brings it over
and I very gently take it from his fingers using my lips and tongue as
much as possible so that my teeth don’t get anywhere near him. He thinks
it so much fun! Foster mom said this weekend we’ll all go outside and
play in the snow together as long as it isn’t too frigid out. I’m
looking forward to that. I certainly don’t mind hanging out in the nice
warm house, but it’s good to get out every so often. Well time for me to
go now. I'm going to go snuggle up for a nice daytime nap. I’ll write
again next week unless of course I get a forever home before then. Maybe
it will be your home.
1/19/04 - Snow, snow, snow!! We have lots of it and Mikey sure is
enjoying it!! You should see him run and jump around in it. I don’t know
who’s more excited for it, Mikey or our 2 year old!!! He is such a great
dog!! I know you look at his stats and see that he’s a senior. But
please, don’t let that discourage you. Nothing will warm your heart more
than opening your home to a older pup! And that’s all he is – an older
puppy! He’s got a heart of gold and a playful nature at heart. He will
keep you warm on those chilly nights and light your smile with his
playfulness. And the best part of all is that you don’t have to spend a
lot of time on obedience training! He knows it all, already! And he’s
even great at learning new commands. And best yet, there is no need to
crate him when you’re not around! He is so well behaved that you can
take him around and about with you too! I’m telling you, don’t eliminate
this guy from your list of possible dogs to adopt – Put him right at the
top instead!! You won’t regret it!!!
1/12/04 - Well we’ve been experiencing some very cold weather
here lately and Mikey doesn’t seem to mind it. He is not taking any
shorter amount of time outside to do his business. It’s amazing us!
However, once he’s ready to come in - you better be ready to let him in.
He comes barreling up to our door like a speeding locomotive!! The look
on his face is “Quick! Get that door open, because I’m coming in no
matter what!” He is such a great dog to have around! He’s even tricked
us into a new habit. Before he goes outside to do his business we have
to scratch his ears and head and give him some loving before he’s ready
to head out the door. It’s very cute!! I just can’t say it enough about
what a great companion Mikey is!! Really, get those applications in. You
don’t want to miss out on bringing this boy into your heart and home!
1/6/04 - There is just no reason why this boy should still be
waiting for his forever family. I know he’s not a cute little puppy
anymore, but he has a heart of gold. His one big issue is that he does
not want to be left home alone for an entire day, every day. Here the
types of home we think he’d do good in: If he was going to be a one dog
household, he would be better with a forever family who isn’t constantly
gone all day throughout the week (I’m talking 8/9 hour stretches 5 days
a week. He’d be okay by his lonesome a day or two here or there, but he
thrives on company. You don’t have to be home all the time – just be
able to give him lots of quality time and companionship when you are
home. If you have another dog – he’d make your dog a very good
companion. They would keep each other company when you are not around. I
think he enjoys the fact that we leave the TV on for him when we’re not
at home. He’s got all the great benefits of a seasoned dog – doesn’t
chew shoes, knows his commands, is house-broken, etc. etc. etc. He is
very good with kids – and people of all ages! And the best part is that
he still has a great spring in his step – a typical boxer personality.
He loves play time, but doesn’t get too out of control like some young
whipper snappers tend to do. So please, open your hearts to this
loveable boy. You’ll have so much wonderful snuggle time. I know you
won’t regret it.
12/29/03 - Hi Everyone! Mikey here! Foster Mom said I could use
the computer today and let you know how I’m doing. I’m having a real
good time here. We celebrated Christmas last week and Santa left me lots
of good stuff. I even got some gifts from Foster Mom and Dad's
neighbors! Mom and Dad were coming and going a lot during the holiday
week, but there’s another dog that keeps me company when no one else is
home. They even leave the TV on for us to keep us company. There’s a
two-year-old kid that lives here too and I get along with him just fine.
But I would REALLY love my very own forever home. I’d love to live with
someone who would enjoy snuggle time with me, but who also wouldn’t mind
throwing a tennis ball around once in a while. I have such a great
personality! And I love socializing with people of all ages. I get along
real well with everyone. I’m great in the car and love going for rides.
And I’m real good on the leash too! Foster mom and dad are constantly
telling me what a good boy I am!! And I really am, if I do say so
myself. So if you are looking for a well behaved, but lightly playful
companion – I’m the boy for you! Fill out that application so that you
can become my forever family!!
12/22/03 - What could make your holiday season more brighter than
adopting this wonderfully loveable boxer boy! He knows his commands so
well, that even if we are giving the command to our boxer, he
instinctively obeys it too! He is such good company to have around – he
is very loveable. And he makes you feel safe too! He alerts us if
someone he doesn’t know is near the house. Barking just enough to get
our attention, but not too much to be a nuisance. And he has a
particular “potty pattern”. It’s quite amusing. He goes outside and does
a “pre-poop pee”. Then he circles around and poops. And then he follows
up with a “post-poop pee”. And then he’s ready to come inside! He and
our Boxer Max were snuggled up on a comforter on the floor together
yesterday. Right where the sun was shining in through the window – sun
bathing in December! He does the best boxer kidney bean dance/butt
wiggle when he greets us! He is just so happy to have someone to love.
And he has so much love to give. Won’t you consider making your home his
forever home this holiday season!!
12/16/03 - Mikey has been doing great this week at our home. We
now realize that he needs company during the day. Whether it is another
dog in the house or
just a forever mommy or daddy who can be around most of the time. He has
had zero accidents in the house and we had an insane schedule last week
- no two days were alike. The dogs were left alone anywhere from one to
nine hours throughout the week and they behaved themselves quite well!
Some fun stuff about Mikey: He loves running in the snow! And enjoys
some playtime. If you are looking a dog, but not sure you want the
insanity of a young whipper snapper - he's the one for you! He is very
content to just snuggle up with you for cuddle time.
12/8/03 - Mikey has returned to Boxer Resort & Spa. He was not
adapting well in his new home. And although it broke his new mommy’s
heart, she thought it would be best if he goes to a home that would make
him happier. She would be gone for about 9 hours a day, and although
that was a similar schedule to ours here at the Spa, Mikey did have the
company of our Boxer during the day. We think he just missed having
company during the day. At this point we think Mikey would do best in a
home where someone isn’t gone for so long or one that has another dog to
keep him company. He’s been doing well over the past 24 hours. He hasn’t
had any accidents and is eating and drinking well. We’ll keep you
posted, as I’m sure we’ll have some great stories to tell you.
11/3/03 - Mikey's First Week Update from his former Foster Mom:
I spoke with Elizabeth yesterday. He's doing great during the week while
his new mom is at work. A dog walker comes in mid-day to give him a walk
and some quality time. Mikey has had a blast meeting new people and
kids. His new mom has experienced herself how much fun he has chasing
around the light from a flashlight and playing with tennis balls. They
are both enjoying the cuddle time on the couch together. She had a rough
day yesterday with an altercation between her cats and Mikey. The cats
were okay, but Mikey got a good swat on the nose from one of the cats.
So she is going to take it a little slower with the interaction time
between them. Mikey has had a few pee "accidents", but we feel it is do
to him wanting to mark his territory out, as the incidences have been
isolated and not daily occurrences. Having just moved to a new house
herself, Elizabeth sympathizes with how Mikey must be feeling, being in
a new home that just doesn't quite feel like home yet. I'm sure we'll
have some more stories from Elizabeth about Mikey as they both get
settled into their new home together.
10/25/03 - Mikey is on his way to his new forever home. He didn't
even bark when his new mommy came to the door - he just knew. (He always
barks when someone he
doesn't know comes to our door)!
We miss him already! Spencer, who was sleeping the whole time, starting
crying in his sleep the exact time Elizabeth and Mikey were pulling
away.
We know Mikey is going to gets lots of loving in his new home and
reciprocate with tons of love right back!!
Best wishes to all the boxer angels out there who made this match
possible.
Hugs,Michele, Doug, Spencer, Max and the cats.
10/21/03 - With Mikey's pending adoption this weekend, we thought
we would give one more update on this totally loveable, huggable boy!
Last night our 2 yr old was playing with one of those hand held fans.
This kind actually lights up. He was holding it up to Mikey and from the
lights flashing, Mikey kept playfully nipping at it. Spencer would put
it up to his face and would then take it away giggling. They played like
this for a few minutes. We had also finally gotten around to putting up
a 5 foot extended baby gate for our sunparlor. It's a little room, maybe
10'x5' with a loveseat. Mikey enjoyed his first night in his own room
rather than a crate. Max even wanted to join him in there!! Given
another week or two, I don't think we'd even have to keep him
sequestered from the cats at night as they finally seem to have adjusted
to him. They were always trying to beat up on the poor guy! All
our neighbors are happy he is going to his forever home, but are going
to miss him. One of our neighbors have even insisted on hosting a going
away party for Mikey on Friday evening!!! He is truly a very special dog
and we are so blessed to have had him in our lives. We are very thankful
for having played a major role in his life. The rescue should be very
proud of all it's doing to save dogs like Mikey. Mikey sends is best and
sends out his biggest, wettest boxers kisses to you all and a big butt/nubby
wiggly kidney bean dance to everyone!!!
10/16/03 - Mikey is pending adoption!
10/13/03 - Mikey’s visit at the Boxer Resort & Spa is going
great! He’s had some more interactions with our cats, which have gone
well. Our little kitty Coors gave him a swat (completely uncalled for,
as Mikey was just sniffing around). Poor Mikey had a bloody nose from
it, but recovered quickly and without any retaliation. He and another of
our kitties – Snowflake- were standing about 5 feet apart just looking
at each other. Mikey’s nubby was wagging the entire time. Snowflake then
sat down and Mikey mirrored his movement and sat right down too! It was
the cutest thing! This guy is going to be a very loving member of
someone’s family. Will it be your family???? He may be a little on the
mature side, but that’s no reason to rule him out. Visit our Senior
Showcase that lists some GREAT reasons why a senior dog is TOPS!!!!
www.boxerangelsrescue.com/AdoptionProcess/SeniorShowcase.htm
10/01/03 - Mikey here. Foster mom has been really busy, so she
asked me to give you an update. I figured it’s a good time to let my
forever family (you’re out there somewhere), know what I really like. I
LOVE tennis balls. I LOVE stuffed animals, any size. The two year old
here shares his stuffies with me! We played tug with one last night, and
I let him win! I have a weak spot for sliced cheese and bread, but you
can’t let me eat too many snacks as I don’t want to gain back all the
weight I’ve lost since I’ve been here. Can you keep a secret? The two
year old sneaks me snacks when mom and dad aren’t looking. I take them
from him very gently since he’s a little guy. I really LOVE going for
walks. I really LOVE going for car rides. I LOVE snuggling up on the
couch – with or without you. I act like a really snuggly “lap cat”
sometimes. Okay maybe a really big, snuggly “lap cat”, buy you’ll get
used to it. Plus I’ll keep you warm when the weather starts getting
cold! I don’t chew on things I’m not supposed to (sometimes foster mom
and dad have to remind me which toys are mine and which are the two year
olds – but once you tell me something’s not mine, I remember). I’m fully
housebroken, but I don’t bark when I have to go out – so you’ll have to
watch for my quiet signals or just let me go outside on a regular
schedule. I get along great with other people, kids and animals. I even
had a play date at the neighbor’s house last week. I met 2 of their dogs
and we had a great time hanging out in their fenced in back yard. Foster
mom and dad keep telling me I’m such a GOOD BOY and so LOVEABLE!!!!
9/18/03 - Well here’s a story called “Close Encounters of the
Kitty Kind”. We know Mikey does well with cats, unless they start
tormenting him with growling and hissing. Then as any animal would,
he’ll take some action. Well the other day I went upstairs and, as I
sometimes do, decided to leave the baby gate open so the dogs could come
up if they’d like. Mikey usually doesn’t even bother leaving his comfy
spot on the couch, but this time he did. The cats were around somewhere,
but they are usually up on something (dresser, desk, whatever) – just up
and above everything/everyone. And we’ve never had an altercations or
situations between Mikey and the cats during his visits to the 2nd
floor. So there I was typing at my computer and Mikey was behind me,
just standing there. A few minutes later I told him to lie down, but he
was still just standing there. Then I heard growling. Uh Oh! This can't
be good! I stealthily stood up to look over the desk and there on the
floor, next to the desk was a cat! Not more than a foot from Mikey. They
were both there the whole time!! Caesar (the cat) then proceeded to hiss
and growl some more. And Mikey, just stood there, butt wiggling and
nubby wagging!! He just wanted to play!! But he wasn’t going to make the
initial move. But since I wasn’t sure where this was going (as far as
Caesar’s attitude) I decided that this brief encounter was good enough
for now and separated them. But I am certain that with proper
introductions and socialization Mikey will have no problem being in a
home with cats. And as I’ve said many times before – he is sooooooooo
loveable!!!
9/12/03 - Hi there! It’s Mikey again. Foster mom has been real busy and
hasn’t had a chance to write about me, so I decided to pop on-line
myself and take care of it for her. Over Labor Day weekend my foster
family had a really big picnic – lots of people and kids – about 40 all
together. They kept us (me and their boxer Max) inside so that we
wouldn’t get too stressed out or too exhausted from all the excitement.
They put a baby gate up between the kitchen and dining room so that we
could have free reign of the living areas, while their guests could come
in and out through the back door in the kitchen to use the bathroom.
Just about every time we heard someone come in, we trotted over to the
baby-gate to see. Everyone from little kids to big adults would lean
over and pet us like crazy. We LOVED it!!! And we gave lots of kisses!!
We could have EASILY knocked down the baby gate, but we didn’t even try.
We were perfect angels! Foster mom and dad’s work schedules have also
changed and they both work all day long, leaving us home alone and
uncrated for about 8 hours a day, a few days each week. I do just fine!
I don’t get into trouble or make a mess of things! I have to go to the
bathroom pretty bad by the time they get home, but I’m a mature boy who
knows how to hold it until they let me out. Who could ask for more???
I’m such a lovable boy!!!
8/29/03 - Mikey here. They’re treating me real well here at the
Boxer Resort & Spa. They do all sorts of great stuff for me like flavor
my dry dog food with yogurt or spaghetti sauce or even ketchup. Mmmm!!
Mmmm!! It’s soooo good. They also give me all sorts of stuffed animals
to play with. I like to help out whenever I can, so if someone I don’t
know comes to the door or too close to the house, I let out a bark or
howl to let them know about it. I even help by making sure their
resident Boxer Max behaves well. He’s much calmer and doesn’t jump up on
people if I’m around – he knows I’m the boss! We have a doggy cable run
that we hang out on with each other in the backyard – we don’t mind
sharing it with each other at all! Foster Mom and Dad said that even
though I’m a very good boy off-leash, that they don’t want me to wander
around too much for my own safety. They’ll be fencing in their yard soon
and if I haven’t found a forever home by then, then me and the resident
Boxer and their 2 year old will get to run free within the fenced area.
That’ll be fun!! But what would be even better would be to have a
forever home of my very own!
8/20/03 - Do you find a snoring dog amusing? Well let’s just say
that once in a while Mikey composes his own “musical melodies”. It quite
funny and a quick repositioning of his head and/or neck quiets it right
down. Mikey had a great week last week! We brought him to a Boxer Meet &
Greet on Saturday. He did very well with all the people, kids and other
Boxers milling around. He will quickly find his way into your heart!!
All our neighbors have fallen in love with him already and they keep
asking about him and if we’ve found him his forever home yet. Could you
be the one????
8/11/03 - We’ve had some exciting events at the Boxer Resort &
Spa recently. First we had a small birthday party for our two-year old.
We had 8 guests, which included children ages 9 and 5 -- Mikey did
wonderfully with everyone, even though he was meeting them all for the
first time. We kept him in his crate as people arrived, but then let him
out and he was quite the well-behaved boxer the entire evening. We’ve
also discovered that Mikey has lost more weight than we thought, as one
evening, while out on the dog lead, he accidentally slipped out of his
collar. We were in a panic, but luckily noticed quite quickly that he
was gone. With just a few hand claps and hollering “Mikey, Mikey, Come
Here” a few times – he came bounding from the backyard area – safe and
sound. Wheww – what a relief! But that just goes to show how good he is.
He could have gone off to who knows where, ignoring my calls – but
instead came running right when he heard we were calling him. We’ve also
learned that Mikey is a little more sensitive to the heat than we are.
We’ll turn the window a/c unit on for him, even if we think we can stand
the heat a little longer ourselves. He doesn’t need a house with central
a/c as we don’t have it ourselves. But we do recommend having at least
one room with a window a/c unit for him to hang out in. All in all, he
is a very low maintenance Boxer and a joy to have around!!!
8/1/03 - Mikey here – Foster Mom says I can tell you some stories
of how great I’ll be in your home. The 2 year old was taking a very long
daytime nap the other day and it was time to wake him so Foster Mom told
me to go give the baby kisses. So I did and I gently woke him up with
soft, gentle, wet boxer kisses – and he LOVED it!. Then the other night
Foster mom was already asleep in bed and Foster Dad wasn’t home from
work yet. I heard some strange voices from outside the house, and began
barking to alert her. The voices hadn’t woken her up, but my warning
bark did – she felt really good knowing I was keeping an “ear” out for
her and the baby! I love to curl up next to someone on the couch with my
head resting on a lap and I don’t take up toooo much room, especially
since I’ve trimmed down with my diet. Foster Mom says I’m looking very
good!! I also love playing with a stuffed animal or a tennis ball or
even better, let me chase the light from a flashlight around the room –
that is soooo much fun! I can’t wait to find a forever home!! I promise
I’ll be the best dog ever!!!
7/24/03 - We can’t say enough good things about Mikey! Every day
he brings a smile to our face. You haven’t lived till you’ve had this
boy excitedly greet you at the door with a butt wiggling, kidney bean
dance!! He is sooooo good – crating is not necessary even if you leave
him home for several hours. Mikey does fine with cats as long as they
don't start swatting/hissing at him. If they do this he will lunge at
them but with a correction of the leash and verbal "NO" he has no
problem backing off. Mikey will be fine in a situation with a cat over
time as the cat gets use to him. If your cats are used to dogs there
will be no problems at all. As far as commands, he even listens to them
when not directed at him. A few times we’ve called our Boxer or even our
son over, and Mikey happily hops over to us (usually faster than the one
we’re actually calling)! Before Mikey, I’m not sure we would have
considered adopting an older dog ourselves. But let me tell you, he has
COMPLETELY changed our minds about that. He is the finest example of how
wonderful it would be to open your heart and home to an older boy!
7/11/03 - Mikey’s Boxer persona is really starting to shine! He’s
got a kidney bean dance to die for! And he’s already picked out a few
favorite toys to play with or nibble on. He likes to slip away into his
crate to take naps during the day and tolerates our 2 year old climbing
in with him. He’s already starting to slim down, but really enjoys a
tasty treat – anything from doggie treats to our son’s snacks (bananas,
crackers and even raisins!). He loves to cuddle - but be aware he’s a
big boy and once he climbs onto you, it’s tough to get out from under
him! But he’s such a loveable mush – that you’ll enjoy the snuggle time.
You really don’t want to miss out on having this boy become a part of
your family – fill out that application today!
7/9/03 - Mikey had his vet visit yesterday and things went very
well. He was soooo good and sooo cooperative getting his shots. The Doc
said he is in great shape for an older boy, he just needs to lose a few
pounds! He knows all the basic commands and picks up new ones very
quickly! He’s spunky and LOVES to play tug and chase the light from a
flashlight around the room! He is so wonderful with our 2 yr old and
enjoys playing with our resident Boxer. Don’t let appearances fool you –
this boy is all Boxer through and through – heart, soul and personality
plus!!! He is so loveable! Words can’t express how much love you will
get from this huggable boy by making your home his forever home.
7/3/03 - Mikey here. Foster mom said it would be okay for me to
chat with you for a little while. I’m having a good visit here at the
Boxer Resort & Spa. Foster Mom and Dad are real nice and they have a
little kid running around all the time. I don’t mind though, I usually
just stand there while he makes laps around me. Wheww! I get tired just
watching him sometimes! I hear that he’s almost 2 years old – so he has
lots of energy. There’s a Boxer who lives here permanently. He’s a nice
boy, but we haven’t had much chance to hang out with each other yet.
Foster mom and dad say we have to wait a few days to really get to know
each other first. So I hang out in the dining room and he gets the
living room – we get to look at each other through a baby gate. And then
when the little kid goes to bed at night, the baby gate comes down and
we get to mingle with each other for the rest of the night. We both like
that. When Foster Dad gets home from work we both get up and greet him
at the door with lots of butt wiggles! We’ve been outside a few times
and we’ve enjoyed getting some fresh air together. I’m very well behaved
and I’m already housebroken. My previous forever mom passed away – I
miss her a lot. But I know that there’s another forever mom and/or dad
out there, just waiting for me. I’m really easy to take care of. I’m not
like some of the young whipper-snappers who get into trouble all the
time. You don’t have to worry about doing puppy-proofing when I come
into your home. Foster mom and dad have a big basket of shoes, right
where I hang out and I’m not even tempted to chew any of them. I even
have access to the kitchen – WOW – but I don’t take advantage of it – no
counter surfing here! I’m a real good boy!! I’ve heard them talking
about having put me on a diet – I’m not sure what that means, but I
haven’t noticed anything too out of the ordinary. I’m eating different
food now and a little less than usual – but that’s okay with me. At
night I sleep in a crate – and it doesn’t bother me at all.
7/2/03 - Things are rolling right along for Mikey during his stay
at the Boxer Resort & Spa. We’ve discovered that he is fully housebroken
– Whooo! Hooo! That’s always a good thing. And he is very good at going
in and staying in his crate when needed – no whimpering, no crying. He
and our resident Boxer have been given some limited in-house socializing
time together and are doing well. If you are looking for a great
companion, but just don’t have the time and/or energy to work with a
younger pup then Mikey would be perfect for you. He is starting to feel
more comfortable here and there’s a spunky personality in this big boy
that is starting to appear. We’ve been introducing him around the
neighborhood and he has gotten along very well with everyone from
toddlers to children to teenagers and adults. He’s met some of the
neighborhood dogs and there has been no problem there either. He’s great
in the car and loves to spend time outdoors in the fresh air, but is
just as content to take a snooze in the house too! If you have kids
and/or dogs, Mikey will blend in quickly. But I am certain that Mikey
wouldn’t mind it if you don’t have kids and/or dogs – he’ll love the one
on one attention!! Stay tuned for more stories on this big loveable,
huggable boy!!
6/29/03 - If you want a loveable, loyal companion - Mikey is the
guy for you. He is very calm and easy going and has already shown
himself to be great with children of all ages. He has a wonderful
demeanor and will blend right in with your family. His previous owner
passed away and he so very much wants to have a new place to call his
own. We'll have more updates and stories soon about this wonderful boy. |
