1/12/05 - Wow...can't believe I have Flash for a year already. She is so sweet and adorable. She loves to boxer play and she and Buster have a blast together. My yard is pure mud from all the running the 2 of them do together and when the ground freezes all you see are paw prints and divots. Flash is still I wicked watch dog, but at least she is listening much better when I tell it is ok. She likes the mailman because of the cookies he gives out. Flash has outgrown the puppy mischief and has become a sweet young lady and is so damn cute. I sure am glad I'm the one who got her!!

12/5/04 - The obedience classes for Flash has done wonders for her. She exceeded my expectations at how fast she picked up on the commands and behavior modification expected of her. She has done so well, that she is invited back for group classes in the spring. The classes are outdoors in a large open field. It should be fun for her, as she really seemed to enjoy the one on one classes. I can see a change in her behavior. She is not into things that are not hers anymore. She does bark like a watchdog, like she should, but she let the mailman give her 2 cookies, with no problem. I took her to practice at the grocery store and the pet store. She did not jump on anyone, and she allowed them to pet her, as she sat quietly. I took her to the new mall to practice and she was not distracted by people around her. All my years of experience & training boxers was not enough for her...this was WELL worth it! Taking her to obedience classes was the best thing I could have done for her and me.
Flash is so cute, it is hard to refrain from kissing her all day. But she is busy playing with Buster and Lilly. Seems Flash produces growths on her skin. She had one on her leg. The vet. said there is a new growth, forgot the name of it, that boxers seem to be prone to. He gave me a spray medication for it, and in 2 weeks it disappeared. He said it is usually a hereditary condition, and sure enough she developed one her back. It is gone after using the spray for 2 weeks. Sure glad it is simple to take care of, and not something that I have to be concerned about.Flash is such a good girl, I am glad I was the one to adopt her!

10/7/04 - Flash is a rambunctious handful. She is always busy running, playing, getting into things, and barking. She has torn all the screens in the house and on my screened in porch. As mentioned in an earlier update, Flash, who was shy of men, is now a bit vicious when strangers come to the house. I have witnessed her nip at men's hands when she is greeting them with barking. Before her nipping turns into biting, Flash will start classes next week for her and I to learn how to modify this behavior. The trainer has explained it as fear aggression and she thinks it is her job to protect me. In all the years of owning of boxers, I have never experienced this behavior, so the classes should be quite enlightening. I have never had to crate a boxer when someone came to the door. I am hoping these classes will keep me from having to crate Flash too.  Flash plays with Buster # 388 and Lilly # 171, either taking turns, or all 3 are boxing each other. Flash is a cutie & she is sweet when she knows you. It will probably be another year before she stops her puppy antics of getting into things. But she is funny too.

8/8/04 - Flash...what to say about her. I will quote my sister as it is fits perfect..."she is so damn adorable!" Flash is full of energy and puppy antics. She plays with Lilly and Buster all day long. And she is one huge watchdog.  My lttle Flash...I love that little girl. She is fun, funny, and a sweetie. She has brought energy, play, and laughter into the house again. She is a joy and she is mine!

4/26/04 - Flash has been nicknamed Scavenger. She takes everything & runs!
It doesn't matter what it is...she just takes it. Shoes, slippers, cardboard, paper, tissues, and the latest was my eye glasses. And of course chasing her for whatever she has is just another game to her...catch me if you can! I have pictures of her standing on the patio table outside. While I cleaned the yard the last week, it was very windy, & I put my eye glasses on the patio table. Flash was only outside with me for a few more minutes, & of course I went inside without the glasses. A few hours later, I realized that I had left them outside on the table, but they weren't there. I looked all over twice & figured they blew away in the wind.
Guess what showed up on the patio 3 days later, after Flash & Lilly were outside for 1/2 hour? The lenses were covered in mud, & the tip of the 2 arms had been chewed off. Seems my little Flash had buried them somewhere in the mud for a few days & chewed on them. I asked Flash where she had them hidden...all she would tell me is " Look Mommy, I found them! I get a reward!" It had never dawned on me that in the few minutes I was out with her, with my back turned, she climbed on the table & ran with them.
She is soooo cute, and soft like butter, but very mischievous. She is such a watch dog, she has torn the 2 screens on my living room windows, & knocks off the curtain on the front door to see who is there. You would think she is vicious. She is loud & rambunctious, but she is very sweet. She loves Lilly & they can jaw each other for hours. She is used to Buster, the foster dog, & would like to play with him, but he hasn't learned how yet. And when you want to find Flash when it is too quiet in the house, look in the recliner!

3/4/04 - Flash is a great little puppy. She just plays & runs all day.  The energy in this dog is
unbelievable.  She is housebroken now, as it has been 2-3 weeks now since I had to clean up from her.  Everyone in the family & even the clients for tax season, think she is adorable....which she is.  She sleeps on my lap in the recliner all the time...lucky she is only about 42 lbs.  She is the
classic boxer puppy...cute, funny, into everything, nosey, stubborn, sweet, friendly, playful, endless energy & a real cuddler.  Now I just have to get her to stop eating the bushes outside...you would think she is a deer.  Thanks for rescuing this little one.  She is a joy to have.

2/5/04 - I have had Flash for a month now, time sure flies. She is doing very well, a very happy, energetic, funny pup. She gets along great with Lilly. She barks in the crate at times, but is quiet when Lilly or I am in the room too. I have had a few clients over for tax season. She does like to jump on people, but with the training collar on, she did great when a male client came in the other day. She sat very quietly in the office with us, & was very friendly. She just needs more training when people come to the house. She is a very sweet, rambunctious little girl. Even her counter & table surfing has been reduced to doing it behind your back, rather than right in front of you. I am sure within a few months, she will have all the perfect manners.

1/22/04 - Nonnie's name is now Flash, as she runs like lightening. She is doing extremely well & loves her "sister" Lilly. I do believe she is housebroken! as I have had 6 days of nothing for me to clean up. She is a very smart little girl and has an enormous appetite for only a 41 lb. boxer. She is always getting some food out of Lilly's bowl, besides eating her own. She knows where their cookies are, she loves toys, & marrow bones. She likes to sleep on my lap in the recliner...so much so, that she has taken over the chair when I an not in it! I have started to crate her when I am not home, as she is the typical puppy, curious about everything that is not hers, but that is only 2 1/2 work days a week. It is nice to see Flash & Lilly eating, playing, & running around together, as Lilly hadn't been too happy since the loss of Princess. By the way, for those who don't know, Lilly is adopted boxer # 171 last year. I have gotten 2 great dogs so far from BAR...who knows, someday I may make it 3! Gotta love those Boxers!!!

1/3/04 - Nonnie has been adopted.
I picked up Nonnie in Canastota and she rode well in the car with the usual, expected attempts to get in the front seat.
She has quite a bit of energy, & took quite a tear through the back yard. Lilly joined in playing with her until Nonnie got too rough with her. And they played some fetch down the hall together. Nonnie enjoys tossing & chasing a toy across the floor & she likes the mattress on the floor that is the girls' bed.
Nonnie is definitely a puppy, & needs training. She jumps on people, gets her paws on the counter & kitchen table, & pees on the floor. It took at least 6 attempts for her to know what "sit" means.... actually at the 1st attempts, she totally gave me a blank stare, like she had never heard that word before.
She is a very sweet, friendly girl & I think she will become a good friend of Lilly's.

12/31/03 - Great news, Nonnie is being adopted our super BAR volunteers.  We look forward to great updates about this terrific girl.

12/6/03 - Our Nonnie girl has gone to spend some time with our trainer to work through some of her issues. We miss her and think about her all the time, hoping she is doing well and is on her way to finding her forever home. We love you Nonnie! Look for updates on her progress and get your apps in soon. Nonnie is a real keeper

10/11/03 - Nonnie continues to do well in her foster home, but she is anxious to find her own special place in her forever home. We continue to work on making Nonnie feel more comfortable with men but her fear remains. Nonnie bonds very quickly to women and because of her secure bonding, she barks quite a bit when she is crated and her foster mom is out of sight. She is quiet if she can see people and she is quiet all night in the crate, sleeping soundly until morning. Nonnie does quiet down when foster mom goes to work-she is always resting quietly in the crate when her human foster brother comes home at lunch to feed her and she is quiet when foster mom comes home from work-she becomes very excited and is very anxious to come out of the crate as she remains dry and clean whenever she is crated-but once she sees her humans, she just has to get out and go outside !!! Nonnie has put on weight and is looking very good now-her coat is in great shape and she is shiny and sleek :) She really wants her forever home to see how wonderful she is ! so put your application in for this sweet girl, she is ready to go!

9/27/03
- Nonnie girl has returned from her spay appointment and after one night of quiet behavior is right back to her happy-go-lucky self. She isn't happy to be separated from the others, but she will have to be for just a while longer while she recuperates. This little girl is a real charmer and just as sweet as she can be.
We are continuing to work on Nonnie's hesitancy with men. In the one evening since she has come back from the vet, she seems to have warmed up to Ryan just a little. She took a treat from him this morning which is a big step for Nonnie.
Nonnie has fit in very well here but she is anxious for a home to call her own-keep watching for updates on this wee one-maybe she can be the one you choose !!

9/15/03 - Just a little update on our Nonnie-girl. She continues to do well here with the other dogs. She is a sweet, lovable little girl who still needs to put on a few pounds but with her voracious appetite, that should happen quickly-she loves the menu here and gobbles up all her food and looks for more. She loves yogurt and a taste of baby food meat on her Canidae kibble!!
Nonnie is wonderful with all women and has been good with the few children she has been exposed to. She is extremely shy with men and stays securely behind me when a man is present. With more exposure to men who do her no harm and show her only love and affection, I am sure she will overcome her feelings of anxiety towards them. She never exhibits any indication of aggression-no growling or snapping, but she does bark at men and appears to have some inherent fear of them. We are working very hard on helping her to learn that most men will treat her with kindness and love and that they can be trusted. There is a 28 year old young man in our household who is determined to help Nonnie with her anxiety and is working very hard to be her friend. She is very slowly becoming less fearful with him and has now approached him a little closer and is willing to take a treat from his hand-so we are making progress.
I am sure that Nonnie will make someone a wonderful pet. She is happy and pleasant and very well-mannered for a boxer of only six months. There is very little jumping and she responds very well to a firm "no" as a correction. We are working on her leash training as she is obviously unfamiliar with being leashed and would prefer to run loose. She is improving and she now knows that when she walks nicely, she gets a treat-she just loves that!! She is extremely food motivated so she will do just about anything if a treat follows.
Nonnie will be spayed soon and brought up to date on all her shots. She will then be ready to go to that very special family that we know is out there to love and nurture her and to help her become another wonderful boxer girl. So, put Nonnie-girl on your wish list-she will be a wonderful addition to any family.

9/12/03 - Nonnie has settled in very well. She has been here for five days and has made friends with all the dogs-even Maggie our 17yr old Bichon who doesn't like just anybody! We have five boxers in addition to Maggie and they all take turns playing with Nonnie-five at once could be a little overwhelming. Nonnie is an energetic, happy and enthusiastic boxer pup. Her appetite is very good, she gobbles up her meals with much gratitude and she will put on the weight she needs with no problems. In fact, we have to keep an eye on her or she will open the dog food bins and have a little snack whenever she chooses, but she has responded very well to a firm "no" and now looks to me whenever she is near the bins to see if I am going to change my mind!! Nonnie is learning to play with toys and seems to enjoy having plush toys in her crate to lay her head on. She barks when she is first put in the crate but settles down after a few minutes and sleeps quietly all night without a peep. Her crate is always dry and she has had only a few accidents in the house. She learned to use our doggie door after a few hours here and now uses it when she needs to. She enjoys going out into the run and lying in the sun but she hates the rain and has to be "coaxed" to go out when it is raining. She also is a little skiddish if it is dark outside and prefers for me to go out with her in the dark. Nonnie will walk on the leash but needs some additional work on this skill as she twists and turns and wiggles while on lead and it is difficult to walk her. She does not exhibit any aggressive behavior towards other dogs or animals such as squirrels or cats while on lead. She will bark at people while on lead but sticks close to me and makes no move towards those people. Nonnie has not had any close contact with cats as we don't have one, but with some careful introductions she would probably learn to live with one. Nonnie has no food aggression. She allows me to take her food away, to put my hand in her food or water and to touch her anyplace on her body while eating. My dogs eat in their crates so Nonnie has not had to deal with them coming near her food. Nonnie is scheduled for her spay next week and she will be brought up to date on all her shots at that time. She is a wonderful young boxer girl who will make a good family dog for a family who will take a little time to work on leash training.
