3/15/04 - A year with the newest member of our family, Jensen, has flown by!  He is everything we could have asked for and more.  From a nervous guy, he has become self-assured, quit regal, and-at 70 lbs, a lap dog!!  We all love him so.

4/18/03 - Well, Jensen continues to come into his own wonderful personality here at High Hopes. He is getting into the routine and knows to sit for treats, lay down on the towel for marrow bones, and hold it for "out." LOL. Speaking of out, Jensen has a little concern coming into the door again. I'm putting two and two together---considering his longer fur and the rub marks on his feet and elbows, and the fact that he hesitates coming back into the kitchen---I don't believe he has spent much time in the house. But he is so good! The first two days he lifted his leg and I told him "no" and brought him outside and that was the end of that. One other thing to mention---Jensen should NOT be in a new home with cats. No doubt about it and no room for negotiation here! He definitely goes after them with a purpose. Sorry! But other dogs are just fine, and Jensen hasn't even been neutered yet (next week)! So, he is a mellow boy with other dogs and people. In fact, I'm having a hard time believing that he is really only a year and a half old. He is by far the most calm Boxer youngster I have ever known. As I move around the kitchen, his space, he just wants to lean on me and talk with me. He will bow-wow-wow and I will say "tell me all about it, Jensen," and he will answer back, and so the conversation goes. Ultimately he ends up so pleased that we are communicating that he does a little kidney bean dance with joy. Love this boy!

4/17/03 - Today Jensen played with a ball for a little while. At first he just didn't get it. I gently kicked a hard ball with a bell inside around the kitchen floor and he just watched it roll past, with a puzzled expression on his face. It took about ten minutes of me playing mini-soccer by myself, and finally the ball bounced off his foot and he pounced on it, nub wagging. I praised him, and he immediately came rushing over to hop up and "hug" me. He really hugs--gently holds his legs around my waist and waits for kisses---sometimes with his eyes closed---and then is soooo happy that all is well. Jensen strikes me as a dog who has not had a whole lot of positive attention. His gentle spirit is just craving human love. He is so darn sweet that he will get a lot of love here! It is just wonderful to see him brightening up as each day progresses, filled with people passing by and always stopping to give him a hug and a kind word.

4/15/03 - This boy is just starving for love. When we pet him, he rests his big mushy face in our hands and stands very, very still---almost as if he doesn't trust it. As soon as we stop petting, he gets so wiggly and happy---like, "more!! more!!!" Jensen is doing fine with the dogs, but is very interested in the cats. I'm not quite sure yet about cats---we'll keep watching. His first love, however, is people! Boy, he just seems to love everyone! Our neighbor came over and Jensen just plunked his big paws on the fence and peered over, and then soaked up the petting. He is a boy who just wants his own family to love him and spend some quality time with him.

4/13/03 -  Jensen was referred to BAR rescue by a nice shelter worker in New Jersey who thought he was such a great boy that he deserved a loving BAR home. Thanks to Patty, Liz, Deb S. and Dina G., he made to his CT foster home, High Hopes, in fine shape. His owners moved and apparently couldn’t take Jensen along. Too bad for them, we think, as this is one happy, sweet boy. He was totally chilled on the ride, seeming to enjoy sleeping on the back seat and soaking up the sunshine. Jensen is about one and one-half years old, and a beautiful reddish-colored boy with a smooshy, wrinkly muzzle and beautiful big brown droopy eyes. He is a tallish boy; I would guess him to be about 65 pounds, but he could use another 10 or 15 pounds. Jensen is a talkative guy, with a low, rumbly voice accompanied by lots of little wiggles and hops. He really seems to love attention---when we chat back with him, he is just glows. He has met our three dogs outside and seems to like other dogs, and has viewed the cats with wiggles and some excitement, but no aggression. The next order of business is getting Jensen in for a vet visit and updated. So far, I think Jensen is a great boy who loves all people---we’ll keep you updated as we go along.
