4/14/04 - Well its been a year since we brought Max home and I cant believe he's been here such a short time, seems like years.  He's two now and what a good boy he is.  He listens, and is so affectionate.  He went to the vet last month and is finally gaining weight consistently.  He weighs 72 lbs and is going strong. He knows who mommy and daddy are and his sister and he even knows what I mean when I say we are going to grandma and grandpas house.  He is very smart.  He knows which toys I talk about by description and will bring them accordingly.  He has brought us and Morgan so much joy we couldn't do without him.  Thanks BAR

8/4/03 -- Geez, I didn't know it was 3 months already!! Everyday seems like an adventure around here. Max is THE most affectionate thing (humans included) I have ever come in contact with. He licks everyone & everything all the time. He is very protective of Morgan, Mommy, and the house (neighborhood I should say). He steps into the bath tub when he thinks its time for him to be clean, and I just love a man with good hygene. He and Morgan are the best of pals, except when there are treats around, then its the battle of the toddlers! He went to the vet the other day by himself and didnt bat an eye about where we were going. All is well and he is slowly but surely gaining weight. We cannot get enough of him, just today he was up on Eric lap as if he is the size of an eight week old puppy, he's got to get right up on you to snuggle. Adopting Max was the best thing for us, and Morgan. I can only hope one day we'll have a bigger house and maybe i can convince Eric to get a third. He loves water; puts his whole mouth in the bowl, trys to catch rain drops, and you cant wash the car, or water plants without him assuming the hose is just for him. Morgan stands back like a cat and looks at me as if to say "mom, is he crazy?!" He is healthy, and happy.... and so are we. Thanks BAR

4/18/03 - Just a quick note to let you all know that Max is doing so well. He is so sweet and just a total mush. No transition time whatsoever. He loves us, plays, eats, sleeps, goes out when he needs to, such a good heart. Morgan is slowly appreciating having a new brother around, and I think they will do just fine.

4/12/03 - Max is pending adoption.  HOORAY!!!HOORAY!!!HOORAY!! Hey everybody, Max has a forever home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just got off the phone with his adoptive family and they are going to come tomorrow (Sunday) morning to get him!! I think he will like it there because he will have a fur sister who seems to have the same personality as his and plays hard! I am so happy for him, he has really grown on me and even had me starting to think of him staying, but that would just make it harder to help another dog in need of foster home to rescue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4/11/03 - Well, TGIF! What a rainy dreary day here! Max and the other fur kids did not like the torrential like rains we had...they went out gave me the eat sh.. look and came back inside, then they went potty! This really made my day!! But I guess I would've done the same, thank god last year my kids and ever thoughtful and "romantic" husband gave me a carpet cleaner!! Max is awesome and lately clinging to me like glue! He keeps getting real close and licking my face, hands, and even feet!!! We have gotten more attached to him than I would have liked, and when that forever home comes, I am going to feel glad for him and sad at the same time, does that make sense? He is a great big lovebuy lately, and man is he good at putting on the lovebug eyes !!! I hope someone adopts him soon, or else I will be using the monies for one of our utilities to keep him!!! (Who needs lights a phone or heat?? Especially when we have BOXER LOVE?)!!

4/8/03 - Hi everyone, I apologize that it has been a few days since My foster son Max's last update, however, I have had a bad virus along with both my girls, also!! As for my son, Max, he is doing much better; the benadryl worked wonderfully and the hives went away. I was so worried, but are you ready? We are narrowing it down to the fact that he was either bitten by a spider or that he is allergic to peanut butter!! That would be a very important thing for any potential adoptive family to remember. We do not know which it was, but it always is much better to know this, and then you can avoid any more problems. My prior boxer, Touchdown, was allergic to wasps, and we had to really be "Quick" when he got stung, so not unlike humans, to be forewarned is forearmed! This dog has become extremely loving and cuddly in the past month. He has had remarkable changes in him within the last week or two. Much calmer and real snuggly. He has his playful times, but has now learned when that is okay and when it is not. We have taught him to sit, stay, and 99.9% of "Come". He also LOVES you to throw balls (or any other toy) and he brings it back to you and drops it so you will keep playing. I think the most important thing he needed was a place where he was being nurtured, and he had to follow rules of the house or get a "time out". He is great and we are really getting attached to him, so get your applications in before we do!!!

4/5/03 - Good evening everyone! It certainly has been an entertaining 24 hours here at the Silver Lining Boxer Sanctuary - we have the resident fur kids, our sweet foster baby Max, and our past foster son Tigger is here for the weekend! As usual, Tigger walked in like he lived here and went immediately to the residents, and then when he went around the corner Max jumped up ran over and started sniffing. Then it was a boxer free for all, all sniffing, running, playing and completely enjoyable boxer fun! Max was great and he plays great with our guest. The four dogs have had a hell of a time today playing and I am ultra proud of my baby Max, he did not have any problems with a different dog here, and has even been cuddling with Tiggs. Max somehow gave me a scare last night, he got either a spider bite or some instect bite, and he was head to toe in the hives!!! As usual aunty Nancy was there to assist in his care (benedryl) and I bet when we hung up she said that's what I got for not being able to get to the foster's meeting last month for such training. Ohh well, for now he is getting better, and you just have to love this great big cornball of a pup! We are so glad to have him here, and so proud of his manners with a new spontaneous visitor to meet. If you had any doubts before, you should forget them and get on the adoption express, he's ready to go!

4/4/03 - Hello, today is a very rainy Friday here in the country!! Max is not thrilled to be indoors, he wants to go out and play with the other fur kids. They are kind of moping around and keep yawning and then going to lay down in their crates, actually 3 dogs and one crate - snuggling. He really is deserving of his own home, so why not stop procrastinating and open your heart and home to Max?

4/3/03 - Hello to all from MAX!! I really like it here in the country. I get lots of attention and love from the skin kids here, the fur kids and I run, play, eat, run more, and wrestle! We also like to cuddle with the skin kids and our Mom & Dad. This family really loves me, but what I would like the most for myself is a home that I can call my own; I would like to be introduced as someone's "new companion", though it's okay when mom introduces me as her "foster son"! She really takes good care of me and I think she is getting attached which I don't want, because she will be sad when I go:( Do you think I might be the kind of companion you would like to have? I do too, so why don't you adopt me and we can become the best friends ever?! I keep wishing on the stars at night, who knows some day maybe my wish will come true. Please give me a chance, I really will be good and you might even find you will want another!

4/2/03 - Well, today was sunny and mild in the morning, so Max and the other fur kids spent some time outside running, playing, and sunning themselves. In the mid afternoon I was finally able to lure them back in the house with peanut butter biscuits! They snoozed in their crates while I had to run my oldest a change of clothes at school. Max continues to try hard to be good, most of the time he succeeds and sometimes that little devil on his shoulder wins...by that I mean he gets a bit wound up and plays a bit hard with the other furs in the house. Eventually he lightens up when they ignore him or give him back a dose of his own! I am really getting attached to him and if you are interested you better get your application in soon. Max will be turning one this month and what a great gift it would be if he could celebrate it with you!!! Don't hesitate, give him the life he truly deserves and the love you will receive. He is a great little guy, one of the prettier looking guys I have seen in a while. So long for now, Max's foster Mom.

4/1/03 - Okay, it's April Fools Day and...the joke is on you because you have yet to adopt MAX!!! He will be celebrating his first birthday this month and the best present he could have is a family of his own. I cannot tell you how much I want him to get a home who will love him and accept him into their home. What do you think about opening your home and your heart to a beautiful, young, boxer boy? You deserve a treat, and he is definitely that. Remember if you don't adopt him soon, then the "joke's" on you!!!

3/31/03 - OKAY, already! Why have you not yet put in your application for Max?!! NO excuses, he really deserves to get a home of his own, why not yours?!! This is a cutie boxer boy who would love you farther than your dreams could imagine. He is the rugged outdoors type that you always envisioned, and he is single and waiting for you!! Mr. MAX-A-Million wants you to look around your home right now, that's right...it's lacking something isn't it?...possibly someone to great you at the door when you come home and really have missed you?...someone who likes to go out for long romantic walks, loves to ride, likes sunrises and sunsets...loves to kiss and be cuddled, yet knows when you are not in the mood?...WELL, stop sitting there, and get going on adopting him, trust me a companion like Max will make you wonder why you waited so long to adopt!! SOOOOO, unless you like to be home alone, no one to watch a good movie and share popcorn with, like long walks ALONE, want no one to just "listen" when you need to talk, or just like staring at those cobwebs, then stop reading this update and get going on adopting MAX!!!

3/30/03 - Well hello to all you boxer watchers!! It is with a bit of sarcasm I tell you that my foster son Max LOVES the rain! We went out to do our business, and he ran and ran and ran...he loved it! Only when it thundered did he come FLYING to the door! He got a great warm rub down with a towel fresh from the dryer and loved every minute of it. If I can, I must say that my foster son is cute! He has learned the rules of the house, with reinforcement daily, and knows what will get him praise and what will get him a "time out"! He is spirited, a little crazy with his stuffed toys, very alert to any noise on the front entrance way to the main doors, and a great big fat BEDHOG!!! My spine is killing from his placing his paws on my back and pusing off so he could use his back to push my husband out of bed...not once, but three times last night!!!! And he had the goofiest look on his face this morning when I rolled over to say good morning to Matt and he was there to give me a big dose of boxer love on Matt's side under the covers!!! Matt had given up and gone downstairs to the couch so Max slid in where it was warm and snuggled with me! He has been a good boy and really has begun to play better, by not being so rough, with the other dogs. Right now they are all trying to chew on ONE bone. It is quite a sight to see, no fighting one at each end and one in the middle. He would be a great gift for someone to give themselves, and they would receive unconditional love back, why not take a chance, we all need some love in out lives, and his will be forever!!!!

3/26/03 - Hey, Guys!!! Well, my foster son, MAX, truly is an outdoor lover! He loves to run around the yard with our other dogs, play with the balls, and chase my kids! He is actually better at catching my kids than I am, so for now he is HIRED!! He has been better with our female, I think because he gets so tired outdoors, that all that puppy energy has managed to burn off. Max came up to me on the couch last night, and when I started rubbing his ears he made the funniest noise; my other dogs put their heads up, started barking and running to the front door - Max and I chuckled, we did not want to tell them it was his "Content" noise :) Max continues to be great with the kids, not one accident in the house, loves to play and has really been eating well. His personality is certainly in his face, a big cornball!! He loves to walk and kind of gets that sad face when we come home from one! He is like the duracell rabbit and wants to keep going...bad for my feet, but could be good for my waistline!! This little mushbucket really deserves to get a home where he gets lavished in attention, has someone who wants to play and cuddle, loves the outdoors, and all that other stuff! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...my foster son is available, cute, willing to please, what more could you ask for?

3/23/03 - What a great day here! Well, we discovered the inner workings on how to calm Max down...exercise, exercise, sun, run, eat, and start again!!! The resident fur kids and Max spent 99.9% of the day outside and since they have been inside, they all dropped on the floor and I have to check them to see if they are breathing!!! They were running around trying to jump at birds in the air, chasing leaves, running after the balls when the girls threw them, and chasing the girls up and down the yard when they would not give the balls back!!! Max gave a gallant effort trying to get up the slide today, and it was funny to see him slide down and land on his hinney!!! He is a doll of a dog, and just is "Zealous" in nature. We have minimized his jumping, by putting our knees up when we see him starting to jump and it took a few chest pops, but he seems to be getting the jist. My girls are trying to also let him know that he cannot jump on them by doing the same, and my oldest somehow has mastered a voice that makes Max stop in his tracks. Max even endured my youngest putting "bunny" ears on him today while she was playing dressup! So, he seems to have moments where he listens, and moments when listening is selective, not too unlike my Kids!!! He has been a pleasure to have here and we are hopeful someone out there is looking for a dog like him! We love this dog and hope someone else gets the chance to give him unconditional love, too.

3/21/03 - TGIF!! Well, Max is just the greatest pup around! He has been a bit full of himself the last few days...probably the "spring fever" that lots of us felt!! He has really gotten the idea of sit and paw, is pretty good with come, though can be selective in the hearing area sometimes, and is learning if he jumps he will get reprimanded or wont like what happens!! I give him time outs like I gave my kids when they were little! He has that crooked halo syndrome...does something goofy, looks at you and crooks his head with the dorkiest look...who me..no...well, maybe!! He has been a bit of play aggressive we noticed, at first we passed it off at the excitement of a new house, new fur friends, etc., but he will nip at my females legs until they bleed. He gets reprimanded and in the blink of an eye goes back at it. He does not do this to my male, so I'm not sure if he is trying to establish "manliness" over her or not, but would not be honest if I did not tell you what he is up to. I think that he is a good boy, and really needs the sense of security to settle down to be the wonderful dog that he is. He is a great companion and plays good with my kids. He loves to curl up with them at night, kind of line nana the dog in Peter Pan!! I think our house will be quite empty feeling when he goes, because we all have our quirks, but that is what makes life so wonderful and awe inspiring, isn't it? Would someone out there step up to the plate and fill it up with a nice dose of boxer baby, my foster son "Max", you will most definately be filled up, yet his love will no doubt have you thinking of filling up your plate with seconds...of boxer love that is...and you will always want more!!!! He is a good boy and is deserving of a family to love him, play with him, train him, and all that stuff that comes with healthy well rounded parenting...of the skin and fur kids!!! It will be one of the most rewarding adventures of your lifetime, I promise.

3/19/03 - Good morning! We seem to be fortunate to have quite a few days of sun and fun...and I am taking advantage of it! The dogs are out there playing, running, and best of all...getting tired!!! Max is a good boy, and I got stopped SOOOOOO many times walking yesterday about how beautiful he was and what kind of dog was he, and how could he be a "rescue" dog because he was so nice and friendly (educate, educate, educate!!!). He loves a good fun run and play. I wish he could get a forever home soon, because it bothers me that he will have to go through another adjustment/transition if he is here too long! He is a great cuddler, and he loves a good squeaky toy. Today we are going to visit my sister in laws dog (another boxer - white) and see how he likes playing with more and more boxers!!! I wish he to get the best home in time for the Spring, maybe the easter bunny could find a real big basket and give him along with some of aunty jeans chocolate bunnies!!!!!!!!!! You will never know true love and affection until you get a boxer, so why not my foster son Max? He is cute, beautiful expressions, energetic, and even picks up around the house (bones of course...but this is still good for a "man"!!).

3/18/03 -  Hi guys! Another nice day, I get excited. The dogs have spring fever for sure!! Max is loving the outdoor play. He has become frisky. The last few days he has been good, but do still feel in all honesty that he does jump and might be better in a home with ages 5 or higher if you have kids. This is not negative, it is just his endless bounds of excitement that he has when he greets people! He is after all only a pup - soon to be only 1 year and he is impressionable. He has a big heart, likes to play with other dogs, and sometimes gets carried away with playing "too rough" my dogs correct that by giving him a good smack with their paws or ignoring him. But I would not let him go out of this house if we had the chance to keep him...he is beautiful, ready and eager to learn with some obedience training, a good companion to have. Max is what I call "MAXamillion" a one in a million diamond in the rough!

3/17/03 - Happy Saint Patty's Day to you all!! Well, we did not write yesterday because we were ALL OUTSIDE ALL DAY!!! Max and the other fur kids and the skin kids, too, spent more than half the day outside playing and running and just enjoying the gift of warm weather and sunshine. He seems to be a professional sunbather, eating up the warmth from the sun with the other dogs. He is a really good guy. He cuddles, and kisses and has one of the most gentle mouths when we offer treats, etc. We are really getting attached to Max, with all our hearts we know he would be welcome to stay, but that would be depriving someone out there the enjoyment that only a boxer brings to your home. He would like a forever home with a brother or sitter to play with, and a full bowl of water & food, plus a warm place to sleep. Does not seem like a lot that he is asking for does it? Just that small request in return for the companion of your life? Don't wait, he really needs a home, before he becomes too settled here.

3/15/03 - Sorry that I have not been updating every day, but I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a State wide "Strategic Planning Committee" as it relates to schools, education, and all the financial issues abound! Great learning for anyone who can participate! On the flipside, Max is doing great!!!! He is a beautiful dog with a big heart, I almost cannot believe that doors have not been knocked down to adopt him. He has been really good and plays with the kids and other boxers. We have taught him to come, stay, sit and he even has been starting to give paw when we say hello! Don't wait any longer....you are depriving yourself of true companionship and boxer love the longer you wait on this guy!

3/12/03 - Ever hear that song..."what a difference a day makes..."? It is like that here with Max. He was a bit rough on arrival, etc., but you would not know this was the same dog here now. He is a love, I just think he had to burn off some serious anxiety and energy. Now he is as mellow and playful as my own, no more no less. They all play, eat and sleep together. He rides great in the car, though I think we might have caused some close calls on the highway yesterday, three windows slightly down and three noses sniffing outside of them!!! He loves to have you throw toys for him to fetch and bring back to you. He adores children, sneaking off around the corner at night only to be found at the bottom of my oldest child's bed at night. My kids keep begging that he stay her as his forever home, but I keep telling them that someone out there really needs a chance to find out what is so special about being the companion of a boxer and we cannot keep this special secret all to ourselves. Great dog, beautiful markings, and yearning to please. We have even taught him to sit and are working on come. He is also observing how these things work with my dogs when they get treats!!!

3/11/03 - Guess what? We came back from the vet and Max is heartworm free and that he is in extra great shape! He weighed in at 59.80 pounds, so as we have been already doing, we will start adding extras to put some more weight on. The vet felt he was an exceptional boxer and loved his tail stating that it was refreshing to see! I don't think he will last long now that he is checked out here, at the vet, and we all agree a great guy! Hurry and get application in if you are interested, he will be going quick!!

3/10/03 - Good morning, it is Max's foster mom here, and he is great in the crate at night...not a peep! This dog is fun! If you like an energetic, eager, fun filled dog, then he is your man! Max is constant energy, too bad we can't bottle it for us on those days when it's hard to get going!!! Max is high energy, sometimes he is rough, but when corrected backs off or the other dogs will let him know they have had enough! He would be a great companion for someone who is always active walking, running, or something like that, it helps him burn off his baby energy. On the boxer scale, he is one that I would describe as "perky" and needing of lots of exercise. If he has this he is fine and just fun! Like kids, if they do not have an outlet, then they get all this energy to utilize somehow. He "talks" and it is funny...my husband and I felt like he was trying to have a serious conversation with the other dogs last night...good guy, young, handsome, and definitely will be a great companion to some lucky person or family who is willing to share their lives with him!!

3/09/03 - Greetings! Have we got one "bouncing" boxer boy for you! His name is Max, he is 11 months old (DOB 4/02); he has natural ears and tail...that's correct NATURAL TAIL! It is adorable on him. He is a real big handsome boy. He was relayed to me by Nancy, Karen & Andy (thanks guys!) yesterday afternoon. He is eating great, drinking, let's you know when he has to go out, LOVES TO PLAY, likes to "talk" to you & other animals, and is crate trained. Max is one of the most playful boxers I have seen in years. He jumps high in the air doing 360's and pouncing around like a rabbit! He has beautiful white boots on all four feet, and the neatest "diamond" white marking on the back of his neck, white line running down his fact focusing on the right side of his jowls. Want to know the best part? HE'S A DROOLER!!!!!!!!!!! I love drooling boxers, sick huh?, my old companion Brutus used to be a drooler, and Max not only looks like him but drools too!! Social graces are on the lower end of the totem pole, but we will most definitely be working on that. I don't think it would hurt for him to be immediately enrolled in an obedience class, he needs that to realize where and when to work off energy that he has. He is a really nice dog, well loved by his previous owners, it shows. He immediately came in made nice with other residents and there is no signs of any aggression. They all eat drink and play without any problems. Someone out there will really be getting a gem in him, young, impressionable and available...
