6/21/04 - Hard to believe a year has gone by since Snoopy came to make his home here. We just got home from our morning walk, and he is stretched out on the carpet having a snooze while I type this update. I love our walks, we are currently doing a couple of miles each morning to keep me in shape during this pregnancy. We often meet a neighbor and other dogs on our walks, and Snoopy is just the nicest guy to everyone. He is gaining a fan base around our neighborhood, thanks to his sweet personality and funny face.
We recently acquired a kitten from a neighbor. I was a bit worried about how well things would go with the new addition, but Snoopy has been nothing but good with the cat. He was a little intimidated by the little guy at first, but now he is unfazed by him and makes no attempts to chase him.
Snoopy has turned out to be an exceptional dog for our family. He is so affectionate and loving, and so patient and gentle. Our small daughter and he are constant companions, and his behavior with her is impeccable. At the same time, he just loves to play and is full of that wonderful boxer spirit we all love. We could not have asked for a better fit for our home than this guy. Thanks to everyone at BAR who made this adoption possible. I know that if Snoopy could talk he would tell you how grateful he is to have been give the chance to have the family life he so deserved and to have been fostered by such caring volunteers. I look at his sweet face and am grateful that he has gotten the opportunity to shine and lead a rich, loving existence with us.

4/17/04 - Gosh, it is hard to believe how fast time flies! We are overdue for Snoopy's update!  Snoopy continues to be the darling of the household.  That cute face of his is just beyond adorable.  When we let the dogs sleep on our bed, which is not every night, Snoopy curls up under the covers in the smallest ball imaginable and breathes his doggy breath right in my face. He is a great snuggler!
His health has been a concern.  We had some blood work done when he had a lump on his neck -- the lump eventually self-resolved, but his
creatinine levels were high, so we started him on a prescription kidney food.  Fortunately that has turned his numbers around, so he will be on it for the forseeable future.
Snoopy is hands-down the best dog in the house for children to play with.  Hercules will sometimes simply avoid our toddler when he doesn't want to be bothered, but Snoop on the other hand seems to just eat up the attention, even when it looks to me like it really isn't that pleasant!
Snoopy still hates to be left home or crated, but we continue to work with him and recognize his peculiar attitudes.   Snoopy is a wonderful addition to our family and we will always be thankful to BAR for getting us together with him.

11/24/03 - Time to update everyone on Snoopy. He has lots of nicknames here, "Noops," "Poo-pie," "Snoopers." My toddler can't quite say "Snoopy" and so to her he is "NOOPY." He is a truly loveable dog and it feels like he has always been part of our family.
Snoopy has some issues with fearfulness and anxious behaviors. We are currently undergoing a home remodel, and he must be crated some days which is very traumatic for him. If left free in the house he is mostly good but if a new workman comes in that he is not familiar with he will try to go after the person. He has little in the way of teeth and can not do much damage, but the potential is always there for harm. Therefore, for everyone's safety, he must be crated. We are working with our vet on various medications for him. He has currently been on Chlomicalm for about a month, but we have not seen any obvious changes. We will continue working with our vet, and fortunately our remodel will be done in a few short weeks.
Snoopy does do well after he has been introduced to a person, and will settle down very quickly after an initial fuss when guests come to the house. He is simply protective of his family and his space. Once he knows you and is assured you are no threat, he will give hugs and kisses and curl up at your feet for a snooze.
He is an amazingly good dog with our toddler, and endures much from her with a good nature and a lot of kisses. His most favorite thing to do is to put his feet around your waist while you sit on the couch and get back rubs from you. His second favorite thing is to play with his best buddy Hercules, a BAR dog we adopted in August. The two of them fit together like hand and glove. They are completely bonded with each other, and they are so cute to watch. He gets along well with all other dogs, and he is our temperament tester for new fosters.
We love Snoopy with all our hearts and we are so glad to have him part of our lives. We can't imagine life without him or his brother Hercules, and look forward to enjoying these two for years to come.

8/23/03 - Snoopy is just the sweetest nicest dog I think I've ever had in my life. In another incarnation he was a quintessential little old woman. He likes his comfots, curling up on the couch and snoozing, more than he likes the adventurous life. He gets along well with other dogs both large and small, humans both large and small, and everyone we have introduced him to. Pretty much the only thing he doesn't like in this life is a crate. When he has to be in it for any reason, he chews on the bars and gets pretty stressed out, so we limit crate stays to only when absolutely necessary. Snoopy has never had an accident in the house and does not bother the things that are not his when he is left alone, so it is not necessary to confine him when he has to be left home. When he has to travel somewhere, he is a pleasure to have in the car. He will look around and sniff out the window for a while, then curl up on the seat or floor and have a nice snooze until we get to wherever we are going. Snoopy has learned to be less touchy about his food bowl with his pal Hercules around. He doesn't even bother to growl over his food as he has realized that there is always going to be plenty to go around (and then some). Snoopy weighed in at a healthy 63 pounds at his last vet appointment. He looks great at this weight, and this is where we will work on keeping him. A good diet of Wellness brand dog food has taken care of his boxer gassiness. His coat has a nice softness and shine to it these days. He completed his Lyme's treatment last week and on Tuesday got the first of two vaccines he will need for Lyme, then a yearly booster with his regular vaccines after that. He is pretty healthy these days and seems to be very happy in our family. He is a sweet, affectionate dog and we love him so very much. He is even improving with his barking, he does it much less and stops very quickly when you tell him to stop now. We are so lucky to have been able to add Snoopy to our family, he is such a sweet boxer baby. We adore him!

8/1/03 - Snoopy has SETTLED IN. He is fat and sassy and just loving his life these days! Recently we did a meet & greet at the Petsmart in Lakewood, NJ with our BAR pals and Snoopy was a perfect ambassador. He really does get along with everyone, and this day he proved it. He played -- nicely-- with poodles and pugs, boxers and beagles. We saw so many different dogs that day, and he just wanted to play with them all! One poodle in particular took a shine to Snoopy and he just laid down right there on the floor to play on the little cutie's level. We can take him just about anywhere with us, and do at every opportunity. Snoopy is continuing his treatment for Lyme's, although you wouldn't know he had it to be around him. Lyme's can have lots of different symptoms, but Snoopy has shown us nothing obvious, and had we not had him tested would not have known he had it. He really enjoys getting his daily round of pills, since I spoil him rotten and hide them in chunks of turkey hot dogs. Two more weeks and he'll be done with the treatment. In September we look forward to getting Snoopy into the basic obedience class at our local training center. Whether we go farther will be up to the Snooperman, he is really a well-behaved dog and doesn't "need" the classes, but we will gauge his reactions and if he really enjoys the interaction and the challenge, we'll keep going with him as far as we can. One interesting thing about Snoopy - he doesn't do a kidney bean! He rather does more of a squat, his spine curves up and over the top and he pushes his rear down toward the ground while he stiffens his front legs. What a character he is. Snoopy is hands down one of the nicest dogs that I've ever lived with in my life, we are so happy that he is a member of our family!

7/21/03 - Snoopy had a vet appointment Saturday to get him UTD on all his shots. We are very aggressive about keeping vaccines updated and getting Lyme and heartworm testing done. Snoopy had some bloodwork done and we found out today the he is positive for Lyme's disease. He will start his three-week round of antibiotics tomorrow, then have the Lyme vaccine. Otherwise, he is a perfectly healthy 60 lb guy with a few less teeth than most! This morning I got a lovely picture of he and our daughter lying on the couch, he on his back, she with her head on his tummy. They are really quite a pair. He not only tolerates her toddler antics, he really seems to enjoy it. I'm glad SOMEONE around here does... Snoopy has wiggled his cute boxer butt right into our hearts, he is the sweetest love imaginable. I can't imagine anyone not wanting this boy, but I am glad for our sakes that someone did not. He is an angel, we could not imagine a better four-legged member of our family. We did a home visit this weekend, and I got to see Snoopy's reaction to a cat. He wanted to get to the cat, clearly, but his tail was wagging a hundred miles a minute, and it was obvious that he just wanted to play. The cat, sadly, was not so keen on Snoopy, so he did not get to get near it. We are looking forward to taking Snoopster to the meet & greet this weekend in NJ. He is going to enjoy all the people and dogs and attention - not to mention the TREATS.

7/18/03 - We are so in love with Snoopy - he is one of the nicest dogs I have ever met in my life. He developed kennel cough his first few days, and did a long round of antibiotics to clear him up. He continues to put on weight, this boy loves to eat! He is now fully on Wellness brand food, with a little olive oil for his coat, and a scrambled egg every now and then. Snoopy has met almost all of our neighbors and several neighborhood dogs on our morning runs. He gets along well with everyone he meets, and so far he only tries to jump if someone comes in the door to visit. He has also been to John's parents house for a couple of family trips to use the pool, and has been given a complete welcome there. He behaves really well just about everywhere, and travels easily in the car. He'll look out the windows for a few minutes, then lay down and relax until we get wherever we are going. He is pretty vocal, he barks at anyone who comes by the house and oftentimes will go out in the back yard for a round of barking just for good measure. He has quite a deep, ferocious sounding bark for such a laid-back guy. Newcomers think he is going to take a hand off of them, but when they realize its pretty much all show, they relax quickly and so does he. Snoopy got to spend a weekend with his old foster-sister Chyna (and Duncan and Jada) at the M&M Boxer Bunker when we went to my sister's wedding in Virigina last weekend. He was a pretty good guest, although I have been told that his barking resulted in a call to the local authorities by a nosy neighbor. Whoops! Snoopy has a visit to the vet scheduled this weekend for his 3-year rabies booster, which is required in our township for a license tag. We'll also have him checked out for any possible reasons for his excessive thirst - this boy drinks a LOT of water! Our daughter Aeryn just adores her new pal and they can play together for long periods of time with no troubles whatsoever. We think Snoopy would get a lot of benefit from having another friend of the boxer variety.

7/1/03 - Snoopy is doing awesome in his new home. He is such a doll, so easy going and willing to please. Aeryn gives him hugs and kisses, and he returns the favor. They play together like they've known each other for a long time. He is such an easy fit into our home, we can't believe how sweet this dog is. He is great on the leash, not a puller and very polite with other people and dogs that we meet. Snoopy already knows basic obedience, come, sit, down, stay, etc. He does not know "heel" or do any "correct" leash work, but we are not too concerned with these issues. Snoopy does like to bark, he barks at strangers and he barks when he's excited or happy when you play with him. He has a surprisingly deep bark for a small guy, and people who don't know him think he is an attack dog! Little do they know he wouldn't hurt a fly, and besides, he has practically no teeth! One other thing...this dog has the most *amazing* gas! Snoopy can clear a room in minutes. I think some of it may be that we are transitioning his food, we are moving him over to Wellness brand to see how he does with it. He also gets yogurt with his food and whatever leftover pasta and vegetables the baby doesn't eat. We're keeping him on 6 cups a day right now, he is not skinny at all but could use another 5 pounds or so to be just right. He loves his chow, but boy is he a messy eater!! We are just delighted with the Snooperman, he is all of those things that make a boxer a delightful family member. He is sweet, funny, athletic, playful, and loving to the nth degree. We couldn't be happier with this boy.

6/29/03 - Snoopy has been adopted.

6/24/03 - Snoopy is pending adoption.

6/23/03 - OMG, where has the time gone. We need to update our Snooper man. The results of the testing at the vet came back completely negative, no infection, no abnormal cells, nothing! My vet seems to feel that there was some sort of trauma to the area which caused the swelling, and now that it is drained, he should have no other problems with the area. So, he is off the antibiotics also.
This guy just continues to amaze me with how he adapts to his environment. When he had his foster girlfriend Chyna, a 6 month old bundle of energy boxer pup, who liked to play rough, he was right there with her, battling it out with her (in a playful way, of course), toe to toe, for hours. Now, the Snoop man has a 13 lb Shih Tzu he is sharing quarters with, and to see these guys play is totally comical. Teddy, the Shih Tzu is a very tiny little guy, who really doesn’t jump (in fact, he has trouble with steps), so Snoopy lays down on his side and back and Teddy climbs on top of him and Snoopy gently (and I do mean gently) pays and kicks Teddy ever so gently. Then they jaw at one another, which is hysterical. I say that because, if you are used to "boxer jawing" you know how rough it can be. Well, these guys look like everything is in slow motion, that’s how gentle he is with Teddy. And when Teddy gets frisky, and starts picking up the pace on Snoopy, Snoopy just maintains the same pace as before....slow. They have really developed a very friendly relationship. When I let them out, Teddy follows his big foster brother around the yard. And Snoopy gets along great with the other 5 resident dogs in the house.
So, as I have said before, whatever your situation, this is the boy for you. Just one of those great dogs that comes along once in a while, just waiting for a great home to match. It that home gonna be yours?

6/15/03 - Snoopy is just one super dog. A real keeper. Obedient, tolerant, loving. Can you ask for anything else.....nope, I don't think so.

We took Snoopy to the vet this past week, because I felt what appeared to be swelling or something in his jaw. The vet felt it also, and thought there might be an abscess of his salivary glands or something. Well, he put a needle into Snoopy's jaw, (snoopy was put under 1st), and he drew out a brownish liquid. He is sending it out for testing, to see what it is. He feels that there was some sort of infection there, and Snoopy is now on antibiotics.

This boy just continues to impress me. I have fostered 30 dogs in my home, and he ranks right up there in temperament. It is outstanding!! We took in a Shih Tzu last week, and in the beginning, the Shih Tzu was a bit scared and tended to be nippy. Well, a couple of times he got scared of the bigger dogs, and he went after Snoopy. Well, Snoopy just tried to get out of his way, never once did he try to go back at him. Like I said, a super temperament.

I am convinced that the PERFECT forever home will one in which he does not have to be crated much, as he does tend to stress when left in there, and since he has proven to be totally trustworthy, there really is not a need to put him in one. It will have lots of love and time for Snoopy, as he does soak in the love, and loves to cuddle and hug, will have kids who want a 4 legged brother to love, and maybe even have another 4 legged friend or more, as he just gets along so well with all the dogs, and i think it also helps him relax a bit when he is with them. So, if you meet these criteria, make that call and get this great guy for yourself. Yes, he is THAT GOOD!!

6/8/03 -  Snoopy and foster daddy took a nice long walk tonight. Foster daddy wanted to see how well Snoopy walked on lead. Well, Snoopy has obviously had experience in this exercise. He started off pretty excited about his walk, and was pulling ahead for a bit. A small correction on his choker, with a "no pull" command quickly improved his walk. We did a few "sit", stay, and this guy just excelled. He really has this down pat. During our walk, we encountered a few dogs and a few stray rabbits. While they all got Snoopy's attention, he was well behaved, and continued on his walk without it distracting him too much. All in all, i was very pleased with how he did, and i promised him we will take more walks together, as he was such a pleasure.

6/4/03 - Time to update our Snoop doggy dog. This boy has proven to be a real sweet, tolerant guy. He has been sharing his space and time with little Chyna girl. She is a 6 month old bundle of puppy energy, and she is giving him a run for his money. And Snoopy is taking everything she can dish out, and giving it right back to her. He is really treating her like an older brother. I’ll tell you, for a 4 yr old, he got as much stamina as this pup has. He refuses to let him be, and he is totally fine with it. In fact, based on his approach to her, I am sure he loves her.
Snoopy spends parts of the day in his crate, and he has really shown that he preferes not to be in there. He nibbles on the bars, and does a lot of panting. He does settle down when it gets quiet, and he is not a big time barker once it gets quiet and he settles down, but when I come down to let him out, the pillow in the crate is saturated with saliva, and the outside of the crate has puddles of saliva. So, as you can see, it is not his favorite place to be, but he does not go “ballistic” in the crate either. He just lets you know that he would prefer to be out and about.
He has had a few accidents on the floor when left alone for extended periods of time. I am more inclined to think this is more nerves, because he does not have these accidents in his crate when he sleeps thru the note. In the morning, I let him out, and he makes a very long pee, so I know he can hold it in. Snoopy is a sensitive, sweet boy, who is very obedient. He has shown me though, that he does not like to be petted for extended periods of time while he is eating, which I have done while temperament testing him. After a few minutes, it does seem to bother him, and he growls a bit. No snapping or anything like that, just a low growl.
So, there you have it, my Snoop doggy dog, getting ready for his forever home. So, if you are looking to add your 1st dog to your home, or #2, 3, or more, this is your boy. Step up and ask for him by name……Snoopy.

5/29/03 - Well, at the risk of drawing the ire of my fellow foster homes, I must report that I have another in a long string of EXCELLENT foster dogs. Yup, this Snoopy boy is a real keeper. (not for me….I’m at my limit, lord knows :o)))) I know that my fellow foster homes are secretly hoping I get a dog that will give me a run for my money, but it’s not gonna be this boy. He is really adjusting to my house very quickly. He is spending a lot of time with dyno pug Ali, and he really plays beautifully with her. Not to rough, and not to gentle. He loves to give these really great hugs, lifting himself up in your lap and burying his head into your stomach.
What an appetite this boy has. He is eating 7 cups of food, split between 3 feedings. He loves his yogurt mixed in, and really eats quickly. He has no problem with hands on or around his bowl, as he is too busy eating.
We do not have a doggie door like he had at his 1st foster home, but that does not seem to be a problem. When I let him out, he does his business quickly.
He barks for a very short bit when you put him in his crate, but that stops quickly. He enjoys his compressed rawhide, which keeps him busy for quite some time. We are going to start introducing him to the other dogs in the next couple of days.
All in all, Snoopy has shown himself to be a wonderful dog, with a very nice temperament. I hope you are planning on adding him to your family, he is the kind of dog that will give you love and pleasure to last a lifetime.

5/26/03 - Snoopy has moved down the road a bit to the Wings & Halo Haven. Foster mom Dina went on vacation, so Snoopy is shacking up at his new place.
He rode like a real gentleman in the back seat of the car. Never once did he try and hog the front seat. I did have to drive with the window open, as Snoopy was serenading me with some wonderful boxer gas :o))).
When we got home, I let Snoopy sniff around the yard. He pee'd and pooped, so i took him into the downstairs. While i went upstairs to get some yogurt for his dinner, he went into a room and peed on my bowling bag. Not a very good way to engratiate himself. I'll chalk it up to nerves, and will watch him more closely. We have been together for 3 hrs now, and have not had another incident.
Snoopy seems a bit nervous when you 1st meet him, and is a bit hand shy. I have worked on this with him, and now he seems more trusting and comfortable with me. He is even helping himself up into my lap, and giving me hugs and kisses. This is a very sweet boy.
He ate 3 cups of food, with lots of yogurt mixed in. He ate it up very quickly. He seems a bit on the skinny side, so foster momma Anne is gonna get some choppped meat and rice and add that to his meals. This should also help with his sensitive tummy that we heard he has.
Snoopy has met my 15 month old foster Dyna Pug Ali, and he took an instant liking to her. She is non stop activity, and Snoopy did not seem at all intimidated by her HIGH level of playing. In fact, he really seemed to like her. Then we let him meet my big Chancy man, my 105 lb sweet boxer boy. Again, no problems at all. I like this boy's disposition in the short time I have gotten to meet him. He is much cuter then his pics show. They do not do him justice. He has the cutest face, and his eyes are very large. His tongue sticks out of the front of his mouth almost all the time, giving him that very cute, sweet goofy look. What can I say, I like this boy. Think about this guy as a new additon to your home, I am sure you will like him as I do.

5/5/03-Snoopy is enjoying running around the backyard with the good weather. He is very playful and enjoys making toys act alive by poking at them and throwing them in the air. We think he finds the squeaky toy on purpose when we go on the phone. He had a nice trip to the beach this weekend and got to run around a little. He always wants to go when he sees us leaving without him. Snoopy hopes to have a forever home really soon so he can get undivided attention that he deserves!

4/29/03-Snoopy is being a good boy – he is being more playful and has finally got the hang of the doggie door. He can go out at any time to chase squirrels or meet with the neighboring dogs. There have not been any accidents lately. He has also found his favorite recliner chair where he can curl up and get a tan at the same time. He has been staying on the chair all night. The playing sessions with our dog have been reaching monumental proportions – they can last up to 15 minutes and they are very entertaining. We can see that he can become attached quickly to a family and would make a good pet.

4/24/03-In the past couple days, Snoopy is in no trouble. He gets so excited when we get home and does a funny dance routine. At night, he is not staying in the crate and has had no accidents. He sleeps at night on the doggy bed in our bedroom and during the day he is following me everywhere. I let him out every few hours and make sure he was not just standing outside, and then at night I wake up and let him outside. He looks very sleepy and does not get up in the first 5 calls, but when I open the back door he comes down and goes out. When we get up in the morning and we don't have to clean anything, it makes us love him even more. Snoopy is a sweet dog, he likes to be with us and play with Boris. When they play he makes such a strange snoring sound. It is really like watching a comedy. Now that we are getting used to him, we think he would make a nice addition to a loving family.

4/17/03 - Snoopy is really starting to grow on us. He’s acting a little less nervous about being in a new place and is starting to become a little playful – he’s becoming a lap dog (he’s probably half the size of our dog) and he thrives on attention, following us around wherever we are. Snoopy is definitely not a beagle (with a pronounced Boxer underbite) but he has nice markings like our dog… His appetite is quite healthy – if you are not careful when opening the container to fill his bowl, you turn around and he has his head in the container. He doesn’t have the best of ‘table manners.’ We hate to leave him in the crate downstairs overnight (and he probably detests it even more by the sound of his protests), but for now we’ll try this method until we know he wont have any accidents. He is getting used to frequent visits outside to relieve himself, which is good. He is also listening better to the sit command. More to come…

4/15/03 - Yesterday Snoopy came to us from St. Jamestown on Long Island. He is very small boxer, but very energetic and fun. From the beginning,  he got along with my dog Boris. They both are playing nice, just Snoopy is a little bit protective of his food and water. He does not like to share, but Boris, being a good host, lets him eat first. Snoopy comes from a home with four kids, so he is very good with kids, but not very friendly with cats. Last night he slept in the crate. He was quiet and seems to be getting used to his new foster home.
