Pertinent Information 5/23/04
- Tony is doing great. Unfortunately he lost his playmate Lacey. He
runs and jumps and liked to play tug o war with Lacey. We have a temp
shepard that he tries to play with. She is worse than he was when we got
him. He is slowly getting her to play with him. I am thinking of
volunteering for foster home after the shepard leaves. I just can't
believe what a difference in Tony. He is doing better with people that
come to visit. He loves going for a walk even though he has the huge yard
to play in. He is my cuddle bunny. I have had to have some
out=patient surgery and when I came 11/6/03 - Tony is doing great. He is still shy when people come over but he does go check them out now and after a while he wants to be pet by them if they show him no attention. He now can put Lacey in her place when he wants to. Not only can he bark he can growl at her. They are very comical to watch play. They love tug-o-war. My son brought a beagle puppy into the house and Tony thinks its fun to paw at, but runs to his crate to get away from her. Shes a pest. Tony also charges after squirrels. His eating is doing much better. I notice if he doesn't eat now he usually has an upset stomach. The only toys he likes are tug toys with Lacey, but he loves biscuits and at 9:00 he starts bugging for his night-time one. The others are always a pleasant surprise, but the night one he counts on. He cuddles wonderfully as everyone knows who has boxers. 9/4/03 - Tony is doing wonderful. He plays tug-o-war with a stuffed snake with Lacy now. He chases her down to get the other end of it. He seems to pick one day a week where he won't eat. Then he goes back to chowing down his food. I have some nice pictures of him I would like to show but I don't know how. I have them on disc. He is getting a little better with people. He is absolutely precious. I love him to pieces. 8/4/03 - I am really excited this past month. Tony is actually playing with toys. We bought a snake and he started to play tug of war with Lacey. Now he takes it from her and runs like the dickens across the yard and she has to chase him for it. They are really funny to watch pulling each other across the yard. He is also getting a little better with each meeting of new people. I just love him to pieces. He has so much of my Brit in him I can't believe the likeness. What a cuddler and loveable boy he is. He has quite a bark on him also. We put him on Nutro and he seems to like it a lot and he actually went over to steal Lacey's food for a change once this past week, she looked at him along with us like he was nuts. She is the food stealer usually. That was also the day he decided to take the toy away from her and make her chase him. Can't wait to see what other surprises he has in store for us. We left both he and Lacey with the crates open in the kitchen yesterday for a few hours and nothing was destroyed, that's a good sign. 7/4/03 - Tony is doing very well, he loves to run in the back yard. He runs the fence line with the shepards on the other side, they bark at him, I think he likes teasing them. He also seems to have a favorite tree to dig under. He gets sappy. He wasn't too fond of the hosing down on one of the real hot days though. He and Lacey play, sometimes Lacey is still too aggressive. You can find them laying next to each other more and more. He used to lay next to our pom Brit but unfortunately we lost her last week. We had a lot of company over the weekend and he was afraid of everyone but by the time they left he let a few people pet him. On fathers day we took him to my dads to try to socialize him more. He let my mom and my sister pet him. He is good around very small children and afraid of 4-5 year olds if they are noisy. He is getting better with noises, although when the divider gate fell the other day he flew through the back sliding door while it was closed they both ended in the back yard. He is comical. He loves to snuggle. He hates eating alone. He won't eat if we are not in the room with him. We love him dearly. It helped a lot having him here after losing Brit. Am thinking about fostering. 6/3/03 - Within the first week Tony started to run in the backyard. Last week he chewed a little on his chew toy, he still doesn't quite know what to do with them. He runs after them but doesn't pick them up. Now Tony runs, jumps, hops, spins, plays with Lacey and runs from Lacey. Lacey is our 8 month old shepard mix and can be a real pain in the neck to Tony. She pesters him a lot. He does not like to play in the house and just goes to his crate when he has had enough of her. Sometimes they lay on the couch together. He is really good with Brit our 14 year old Pomeranian, only he likes to lay in her tiny bed. He looks really funny in there. Sometime he steels her bones. They all take turns steeling each others. He is my shadow when I am home and if I can't find him he is usually right behind me. I love to watch him run, he is amazing, he jumps over Lacey. I thought he was always running away from her but I found it was part of a game with them. If she doesn't chase him he comes bach by her to taunt her to chase him. I can now tell the difference when he has had enough. When we were planting the garden they played the entire time. I thought they would pass out. What energy. I haven't had any luck yet with a class for training. I called Rome Humane Society and they won't have another class until fall. They mailed me a list of local places and none have gotten back to us. Any suggestions? Lacey needs it also. Tony is going today to the vet for weighing for resolution and I bet he has gained weight, he loves meal time. He is eating with just warm water added to his food now and eats it all and looks like he would eat more. I look forward to his wiggle every night I come home. I had to go for an endoscopy on Friday and when I came home he slept with me all day. 5/3/03 - Tony has been adopted. 5/2/03- Tony is pending adoption! 4/22/03-Tony Baloney...what a big lug. The way he quietly peeks around from behind my chair, resting his head on my arm...then his one paw comes up, then the other...and before ya know it there's a whole Boxer on my lap. In five minutes flat he's snoring away. Tony truly appreciates the fine art of napping. Now if we could get him to be a bit less fussy at meal time we'd be all set. For now, Tony likes his food mixed with some burger and broth...warm...not too hot and not too cold. Some of the broth absorbed by the dry food so it's softened but not soggy. He'll eat two cups, no more. Feel free to copy the recipe :o). We also supplement with some nice crunchy biscuits throughout the day so his teeth stay as nice and white as they are now. Tony goes to see the doc in a couple days for the usual check-up, shots, and de-jewelling. We'll probably be able to check out Tony's reaction to kitties while he's there since we don't have any here. I'm quite sure he'll be fine, knowing his basic personality and live-and-let-live philosophy of life. Since Tony will soon be ready to go to his forever home, we were thinking about what kind of home would be best for our guy. Tony's requirements are pretty wide-open. He'd like someone who won't mind if he snuggles with them. Someone who'll take him for nice leisurely strolls around the neighborhood would be good. He's perfectly happy sharing his space with another dog...or not...your choice. He's not one to jump up in your face when you get home from work but he will greet you with nub a-waggin' and will be in your lap when you sit down and try to read the paper. Gentle kids are great...but he isn't a pup that has loads of energy to burn off so a quiet home is fine too. Oh, and he would like his meals prepared as above. If you think you can handle all that....don't wait...apply now! 4/16/03 - Just a couple of days at the lodge, and Tony is adapting wonderfully. We've yet to see him do any playing but he's getting quite relaxed and has more bounce in his step. He loves his walks...and I have lots of volunteers to walk him as he is so easy on the arms. This is one gentle, loving pup. Tony loves to be hugged and to have his neck stroked...to the point of falling asleep in your arms. Today, he got on my lap, put that big head in my neck and gave me lots of smooches. Now, what's not to love about that? For a dog that has lived with lots of other dogs, he's very people oriented as well. He divides his cuddle time equally between Maria and the two-legged residents. I'm sure he'd make an excellent bed warmer but while he's here he'll have to settle for the crate. And by the way...he has excellent crate manners. After a little encouragement to get in, he just settles right in and doesn't make a sound. If you're looking for a mellow, huggable, lovable guy...I have him right here! Tony's grrrrrrrrreat!!! 4/14/03 - Tony's experienced quite an upheaval in the last couple of days. His family got turned on its head and he's still reeling a bit. There must be some angels looking out for our boy, though, because his foster home happens to be the forever home of his sister Maria and she is doing her best to make things easier for him. As I suspected, it wasn't long before the two of them were cozying up together. This morning, I found them sleeping in the same crate, all comfy. The family resemblance is also seen in their personalities. Tony approaches new situations with the same caution his sister used to have. Of course she's been with us for a year and has pretty much thrown caution to the wind now ;o). Tony also resembles her in the sweetness department. He has a 'gentle spirit' that makes you want to cuddle him (all 70 or so pounds of him) and tell him everything's going to be just fine. He can't seem to get close enough to me or one of the kids and will lean on us or squeeze behind my legs when I'm sitting down....and he loves to have his neck rubbed or his ears stroked. What a baby :o). Tony enjoyed a little jog today with our thirteen year old daughter. He's so easy on the leash that it's a pleasure to walk him. We're looking forward to seeing him relax a bit more and enjoy all the lodge activities. Tony watched Maria play with a toy today and for a moment it looked as though he might want to join in. But his heart just isn't in it yet. Give him a bit of time to get his bearings, though, and Tony will be in fine Boxer form. He's already made his way into our heart. 4/13/ 03 - Tony is safe and sound at the lodge
tonight. Great job, transporters.....special transporter of the week award
to Liz. Jersey City, Brooklyn, car FULL of dogs, last minute, and a real
sport about it. Yes, Tony and Maria are reunited. (Maria is Tony's
sister) He's absolutely exhausted...curled right up in the
crate as soon as he got here...eyes half-mast. Do he and Maria
"recognize" each other? I don't know, but it looks like they'll
be snoozing on the same doggie bed any minute. I'll get pictures
tomorrow...he's just plain tuckered out tonight...but oh, so sweet. |
