5/1/04 - We can't believe it has been a year since Zion was added to our family.  He continues to do well and loves the attention of his new home.  He is always up for a long walk or a snooze on the bed.  He enjoys going for rides in the car and runs to the door when you grab your keys.  Thanks soo much BAR

8/6/03 - YIPPEE...Zion's heartworm came back negative for the second time in a row, so our boy was officially given a clean bill of health. To celebrate we went to McDonald's for a hamburger...he loved it. (Not too sure it was a good idea thought, the next day he jumped in the car and refused to get out waiting for his next burger:) Zion has been getting better with new people. My parents were here for a week and after several hours of wary stares he decided they were not going to leave so they might as well be friends. Zion has also enjoyed play dates with Frankie and Major (other local boxers) and Sullie and Eddie (the two lab puppies in the neighborhood). Zion also loves to meet other dogs on walks and starts kidney beaning as soon as he sees another fur friend. Our picky eater has also started cleaning his bowl more and has filled out beautifully. Thanks so much BAR...We love our guy

6/12/03 - What a love Zion is...We could not have asked for a better boxer! Zion has had no real issues since he has been here and is adjusting every day. We have only had one small "incident" since arrival (my fault for leaving two Subway sandwiches on the coffee table and going outside for a minute. His favorite was the meatball:) We have just completed obedience class also. Zion loved the other dogs and was eager to go every week to play with them. Zion continues to be a bit shy around people, but is getting better all of the time. We can't imagine our life without our guy.

5/4/03-What a great guy Zion is...What more can you say. Zion has been with us now for almost a month and is a great addition to our family. He is still a little shy of people at times, but is getting better slowly. Zion is a mellow guy who likes to lie around and have his ears scratched or take a little snooze in his crate. He loves the resident kitties (although they are still not sure of him), and will get in a little kiss or two to them when he can. Overall Zion is doing great and we just adore him. Thanks BAR!!!

4/5/03 - Zion has been adopted.

4/4/03 - Zion is pending adoption.

4/3/03 - This morning's headline of the Lodge Gazette reads: ZION PLAYS WITH PEOPLE TOO! Now, maybe that's not headline material for some, but until today we were beginning to wonder if Zion was ever going to really have fun with people. He was enjoying playing with the other dogs, but when a two-legged playmate would attempt to join in, Zion wouldn't know what to do. Perhaps he wasn't feeling up to par, we thought, maybe he's a bit depressed. Well, today we are happy to report that Zion not only participated in a game of tag with the lodge manager, he also initiated a rousing play session with the 9 yr. old kid-of-the-house. Yesiree, Zion was play-bowing, nibbling at Kevin's pant leg, and trying to get us to chase him around. Zion got so excited, he even barked...twice!...something we have NEVER heard him do in the house. So you see, Mr. Zion has shown us his true boxer spirit at last. And it's with more than a little sadness that we realize he's ready to move on to his forever family. We don't know who that is yet....but it won't be long before Zion is running, playing, and finding complete happiness and health with the family he deserves.

3/25/03 - Hey everyone....Zion here! The lodge management has been kinda slow with my updates so I thought I'd help out a little and do my own. When you last heard about me, I was at the vets getting some "treatment"....HA!....if getting poked and prodded then feeling like I got punched in the stomach by a two-legged heavyweight is treatment, I think I'd rather be sick. Everyone says I did super and after a few days of rest, I must admit I feel much better. My manly physique is coming back.....thanks to some fine cooking around here...and I only have an occasional cough when I try to play harder than I'm supposed to. All looks good in the health department now and I can't wait till I can really tear around like a young guy is supposed to. "Gotta take it easy", everyone keeps saying....so I curl up next to Maria (my little sugar-pie) and dream about the kind of family I'd like to have. I'm not very particular about that....I'd be happy with anyone who would talk nice to me, get close and tell me what a good boy I am....take me for nice walks (I've heard I'm one of the easiest boxers they've walked around here)....maybe another pup to play with. I really like other dogs, big and small. I listen very, very well...you'd never have to yell at me (I hate yelling....makes me want to go hide in my crate). And I'd totally behave myself if I had to be alone for a while....I don't mind at all...I just catch up on my sleep. You should probably know that I still get a little nervous with new people......I NEVER growl or snap (that is definitely NOT cool)....but I just wait to see if that hand that's reaching out is friend or foe and as soon as you pet me, I know you're a nice person. Ya know, there's been a lot of activity around here....the lodge is being renovated (painting, spring cleaning....that sort of thing). There's a lot of ladders and junk around but I'm so quiet...usually just hang out in my crate with the door open...that I think they forget I'm here sometimes. So....whadaya think? I'm pretty special if I do say so myself. I'm feeling better, looking good, and getting myself ready to move on. I hope wherever I'm going, they're getting ready for me!

3/12/03 - Zion, Mr. Z, The Z-Man....is spending a couple of days with the Doc and his gang while undergoing heartworm treatment. Gosh, we miss him, but by all accounts he's handling the treatment well and will be back here at the lodge tomorrow for a period of R&R. He'll need a few weeks of very quiet time....mostly in the crate....but we are expecting full recovery and no lasting effects. When I took Zion to the Doc's office, there were a couple ladies from a cat rescue picking up 6 kitties to go to their foster homes. There was also the resident kitty on the receptionist's counter who enjoys tormenting the dogs by swishing her tail in their face. Since we have no cats here at the lodge, I thought this would be a good time to see how our boy reacted....and he passed with flying colors. I won't say he paid no attention...how could you not be a little intrigued with all the funny noises, not to mention that tail flicking back and forth from the perch above. But there was no straining on the leash from Zion, and when he wanted to put his paws up on the counter to get a closer look, a quick "off" brought him right back in line. Good Boy! Besides restoring Zion back to health, we also are enjoying watching Zion come out of his shell a bit more each day. Unfortunately, the boxer-play he was really starting to get into will have to be put on hold for a while. But he'll get plenty of hugs and kisses and as much ice cream as he wants.....wait a minute, that's for tonsils isn't it? Oh well, how 'bout some chicken livers with his food (and a bit of ice cream for dessert :o)).

3/5/03 - I don't think we've ever had a guest fit in quite as easily as Zion. He's just the most unassuming boy, having playful moments but never pushing himself on the others. Oh, sure he does fawn over Miss Maria, following her all over the lodge. But having another pup to hang with is helping him develop in the self-confidence department. See, the Lodge isn't just about fun and games....we do self-improvement seminars too! Why, just yesterday, Zion overcame his hesitancy about going up and down stairs by watching Maria and knowing that he had to climb that full flight of stairs if he was going to be with her (how romantic). Once at the top, we called in the Spa Director and Zion had his first spa treatment since arriving. What a wonderful transformation...Z was looking and feeling so much better, he decided to do a little dancing (kidney-bean style) before dinner. Everyone applauded and Z became a bit embarrassed by the attention. In fact, he's not quite sure what to make of all the people-attention and affection he's getting here. When someone comes in the room, he's all happy but doesn't approach them for a pet or a hug. But as soon as you go and pet him, or hug him, or rub his ears (Z's favorite!), he just leans in and soaks it up. Oh, by the way, Zion has the run of the lodge since he's shown himself very reliable with his, ahem, toileting needs. What a lucky family it will be who adds Zion to their home. Maybe ours? Just kidding....maybe yours?

3/3/03 - The Heaven Sent Boxer Lodge welcomes Zion, a very cute fawn boy who comes to us from an owner who's home just wasn't big enough for a large dog so Zion was spending much of his time outside. We gave Zion a subdued welcome yesterday....no noise makers and balloons this time... since he seemed a little unsure of what in the world was happening to him. After a good, warm, peaceful night's sleep Zion is quite a bit perkier today and even played a bit with Recreation Director Maria. In fact, I think he may be developing a bit of a crush on her, giving little kisses on the side of her face when he can sneak them in. Zion is also getting along quite well with the male residents, certainly no power plays from him....and this makes the Lodge management very happy. He is also appreciative of the fine Lodge cuisine and shows it by licking his bowl clean. Zion needs to put on a few pounds so we are thrilled that our menu is to his liking. We are very happy to have Zion with us. Please keep him in your thoughts as Mr. Z will be undergoing heartworm treatment, beginning in a few days and we have high hopes for a complete and uncomplicated recovery.
