Zeus's Foster Journey |

Pertinent Information 8/3/03 - Bosley is wonderful. All is well. 5/29/03 - Bosley is the sweetest, the funniest, the most loving little boy we can imagine. He is such a baby and has stolen our hearts. From day one, he has not only blended into our family perfectly, but he has also brought so much joy to dogs and people alike. Our Poppy girl, who always goes through little depressions when particularly playful fosters leave, is so much happier now, with a new brother who gives her tons of attention. Poppy and Bosley play all day long and sleep together as well, always touching, leaning on each other or arms intertwined. Duke just looks on with a very paternal gaze---sort of like saying “go ahead and play, young’uns, but just don’t bump into me!” Bosley is the little brother of the three, so cute and lovable that he is truly the spoiled one, the one we are always shaking our heads and laughing at---he has a way of squeezing into the smallest of spaces between the other dogs, to fall happily into our arms and get cuddles. It’s an interesting thing that Bosley has chosen my youngest son as his best buddy. I say this because Poppy is more my baby, and Duke is all Kylie’s---now Andy has “his dog” as well. Bosley just loves following Andy around and crawling onto Andy’s bed for a snooze. Another great thing about Bos is that he is a dream in public places, unlike our other dogs, so he is the one that gets to go to the store with us, to parades, and walks down Main Street, Meet & Greets, etc. In fact, he is the only dog I’ve ever known who becomes more mellow and calm in public. Last week Kye & I took Bosley to the pet store to pick out a new toy for each of the dogs. He was so adorable, totally enjoying his own special time. Well, that’s it for now---I have nothing but positive things to say about our Bos. Of course, we knew he is a keeper right from the beginning!
3/28/03 - Well, some of you
may have noticed that Zeus was off the foster list almost as soon as he
got on. And, many of you have heard me stress that it is not too hard to
give up the fosters to GOOD homes---I should know, having done it
successfully 16 times. And, I just know that some of you will remind me
that I have said a hundred times that two dogs is just right for us and
we will not adopt another.
But. . . then came Zeus, full of love and fitting into our family like a glove. Immediately accepted by all dogs, cats and kids. Snuggling as if he was born in my arms. Eyes that just melt us all. So, yep, he stays--we are adopting him. Number 17 foster dog blew my good fostering record ;-) Oh---since we are positive that Duke (deaf boy) lip reads his name and a couple of other words ;-)) and Zeus and Duke have the same lip movement, we have changed Zeus's name (Zeus is also deaf and doesn't mind---we wanted to give him a two-syllable name to lip read anyway). We have named him Bosley (from Charlie's Angels) as he is our angel boy. :-)) Karen 3/29/03 - Zeus has been adopted by his foster family. It was love at first site and he fit into the family like a glove! 3/24/03 - Zeus came to BAR via a very nice shelter where he was turned in by his owner who couldn't take care of Zeus or the family cat due to illness. Thank you to the shelter for passing this wonderful boy on to us, and to Patty, LeeAnn, Leslie, Brenda, Robin!, and James! Zeus is all tuckered out from his long, 8-hour transport today to High Hopes Boxer Haven, but he is very happy to be here. He had a potty, a drink, some doggie cookies, and is happily snoozing on a fat pillow in the kennel in the living room watching me type. The other dogs are also sacked out in the same room---all having decided right away that they liked each other okay. Zeus is in good shape with the exception of a case of kennel cough. He is already on antibiotics and this should clear up soon. He is a smaller boy, with the exceptionally soft fur that white Boxers seem to have. (See our page on white Boxers if you want to know more!) He is really beautiful and what a sweet personality! Zeus came to this foster home because he is deaf and needs to learn some signs. No problem--he fits right in with our own two whites, one who is also deaf. My daughter Kylie has made a little study of training deaf dogs, and happens to have the time right now in between her classes to work with Zeus, so we will be sharing his learning process as we go. Judging by his sweet demeaner, calmish nature (at least tonight!) and desire for hugs, I think training him will be a piece of cake. So, keep your eye on this great guy---he is a special boy. We'll update again in a day or two. |
