2/3/04 -  Hi, this is Mazey here. I have been here for 1 year. Can you believe it! Things are great here. My parents love me so much and I am such a good girl. They have about 100 nick names for me, that's OK, I answer to anything. I listen very well and have great manners. I go for rides in the car every day. Everyone who knows me thinks I am the best dog. I love to play in the yard, especially with the snow. When someone new comes to our house or in our yard, I do still bark and growl especially if they are men, approach abruptly, or are loud. Once I get to know them, I am okay with them. I just get very shy and sit in my favorite spot on the couch, it is a safe place for me. I do love small children. I love to lick them in the face even if they grab my ears or tail. They laugh when they see me and love to follow me around the house. I love to play with other dogs, even if they are not interested in playing with me. They do have to play by my rules or I get very upset. When playing, I do not like to be cornered or jumped on top of by another dog. This makes me very nervous and I fight back. Mom and dad do not like when I do that. I went to the doctors and he said I am doing great. He then gave me 4 shots in the butt. I did not care until about a minute later, I turned my head towards my butt and started jumping around to see what was back there. Everyone thought it was funny. Other than that, nothing else new here. I am looking forward to many more years in my forever home. Love, Mazey May Hanley

7/30/03 - Mazey has been with is for 6 months now. She is absolutely wonderful. Words cannot describe how wonderful she is. All she wants is to be loved and love you in return. Our back yard is fenced in now and she loves to run free. We never leave her alone in the yard, but if we run into the house to grab the phone or need to quickly get something out of the house, she stands at the door looking in saying, "Why are you leaving me alone?" She looks at you with those big eyes waiting to be pet. She loves to lick. Once she starts, she will not stop until you tell her "That's enough." She licks hands, feet, knees, faces, clothes, hair, furniture, anything. She LOVES to play with other dogs, but must be dominant. If another dog tries to be dominant, she will get rough and we have to separate the dogs. Right away after being corrected, she is licking the other dog's face and wants to play again. She cannot understand that the other dog is traumatized and is not ready to forgive her so quickly. She is still improving with strangers. She is shy, but responds well if approached gently, but some people, she is afraid of and growls right away (at the same time, she is wagging her tail). She tries to be tough, but how can you take her seriously with her tail wagging. Everyone loves her and we take her wherever we go. I am hoping to post a new picture on her site soon.

4/28/03-Hi, this is Mazey again. I forgot to tell you that mom and dad taught me how to do a new trick. I can roll over. Every time I do it, my parents laugh and laugh. Apparently, I am in slow motion when I do it, I look more like a block rolling over than a log. They say it is because of my big, boxer chest. Well, us boxers are not known for our grace. I also had a great time at the "meet and greet" in Connecticut last week. It was nice to see other boxers who were like me. It was also nice to see my foster mom again. I may have acted as if I did not remember her, I was just overwhelmed and excited about all the people and dogs. I will never forget my foster mom though and everyone else who helped me get to my forever home. More updates to come...

4/25/03-Hi this is Mazey here. I have been with my new parents for 3 months today! They keep telling me what a good girl I am and are always giving me attention. They told me they are going to fence in the back yard so I can run and play with my dog friends. I graduated from obedience school and my diploma is hanging on the fridge. My mom tells me that she will send a copy to BAR, but she keeps leaving it at home. She promises to send it next week. I do not have to stay in the crate anymore when mom and dad leave and I have been such a good girl except that I peed on their bed yesterday while they both went out again after they had only been home from work for 2 hours! I did not like that too much since I usually go with them. When they came home and found the mess, I was very sorry. They were not too upset and they said the sheets were due to be changed anyway. I love my new home and am not so scared anymore, just sometimes. Anyway, I am looking forward to the warm weather and we will talk again soon.

4/2/03 - Mazey has been with us just over two months, but it certainly feels much longer. She is so great. I never dreamed of having such a good dog. When you get a dog, you expect that even though you will love the dog, there will be some issues that must be worked on. She is such a good girl, I cannot find any flaws whatsoever! Since we have no children yet, she is our baby and she is the center of attention. She may be a bit spoiled, however. If my husband and I are showing each other any sign of affection and not paying attention to her, she barks and cries until we include her in the hugs and kisses. This cracks me up. Wherever we go where dogs are permitted, she comes with us. She LOVES to go for rides in the car. She has 2 more weeks of obedience school and it is going very well. Everyone in class wishes there dogs would behave like Mazey. She definitely wants to be dominant when playing with the other dogs and always seems to get her way. We plan on attending the advanced training sometime this summer. Just over the last 2 or 3 weeks we have noticed Mazey starting to feel much more comfortable in her environment and with other people. She is playing more and sleeping less. She is less shy and fearful of men she does not know. With this confidence, however, she had been pulling on the leash on her walks, which she did not do when she first came home with us. Just Monday at school, we started using the Gentle Leader. Although she initially resisted, she already is used to it. We just used positive reinforcement and were persistent (Special thanks to liver training snacks). It is nice to see your effort pay off, she is like another dog now on the leash!!! It is great. She is at a good weight now for her size, her fur is so soft and the swelling in her stomach from her pregnancy is gone. Thanks again to all for giving us such a great companion!!!

2/28/03 - Sorry for the delay in Mazey's 1 month update. Mazey is doing very well. After 2 cancelled obedience classes due to snow, we finally attended our first class. Humans only for the first class. Mazey will join us Monday. She is becoming more confident and less shy. She still growls at men and is startled easily, but is improving. She tries to act tough, but everyone knows she is a sweet, lovable baby. I am still unsure how much of her personality is part of her nature, or if she is still reacting from whatever happened in her past. She listens so well and is so lovable. When she is laying on the couch and we call her to play or to get pets, she just lays there with her tail wagging and usually has to be called several times to come. I am unsure if she is being stubborn, lazy (hence her nickname "Lazy Mazey"), or if she makes a game out of playing "hard to get." She is great to have around and we have not had any major issues at all. The only problem that she has been having is occasional vomiting in the morning. The vet says the she just has post nasal drip. We have been keeping a close eye on her when this happens. We will send updates on how she does in obedience class...

2/12/03 - Mazey is definitely the center of attention at our house. I think Sean is smothering her, he disagrees. She is such a good girl. She is becoming more and more trusting every day. Also, much less fearful. We had a big snowfall 5 days ago (12 inches) and we learned that Mazey LOVES to play in the snow. This was surprising for such a calm and gentle dog who just wants to cuddle. She made a new doggie friend while playing in the snow. She was the dominant one, kept chasing him into the corner of the yard and initially intimidating him, which once again surprised me since she is usually so calm and gentle. Her first day of obedience school was cancelled due to snow. We will start next week. We have stared basic commands with her. We thought training her would be difficult since she did not get overly excited when we gave her treats. Little did we know, she just did not like the taste of them. She loves the new ones that we bought (old ones must have been pretty bad if a dog would not eat it). She is so smart. She understands everything you say to her (and she listens!). She can be quite stubborn at times, however. That is okay, since she is such a good girl. I miss her so much while I am at work and I call my husband at home to see how she is doing. I am jealous that he is home during the day and spends all of his time with her. Cannot wait for the warmer weather and be able to take her to the beach!! More to come...

2/6/03 - Well, Mazey has been with us for almost 2 weeks and we already forgot what
life was like without her.  When we took her home, she was soooooo sad, shy and scared.  On the ride back home, she laid down with her head turned away from me and her paw on my lap.  All she wanted was to be pet.  When we got home, she just stood in our family room, her head down and those BIG eyes looking up, she broke my heart (she has the best eyes).  She was the cutest thing I had ever seen, but I never saw such a sad dog.  She would not sit, lay down, eat, or play.  She did finally find a spot on the couch that we designated for her.  If it was up to her, she would not have moved from that spot.  Every hour and every day, she shows improvement.  Now, she gets so excited just talking to her, when we pet her or play with her, forget it, she is in heaven.  Her nub wags like crazy.  She is so sweet, gentle, and lovable.  She is so good and so smart, she is almost too perfect.  She does, however, growl and sometimes bark when people come and visit (never shows her teeth).  As soon as people talk to her and pet her, she is her sweet self.  This is something we are working on.  She seems to be really interested in other dogs.  We walk her around a nearby lake which has many
people walking their dogs.  She loves it!  She met her "Uncle" Dempsey (my parents 5 year old, 80 lb very active, beautiful, flashey fawn who is the biggest lovable slob you will ever meet).  He looked like a big moose next to her.  I have NEVER heard Dempsey bark, but when he saw Mazey, he was so excited and was barking like crazy.  I was shocked.  Mazey was not intimidated at all, just curious and unsure since he is so much more active than she is.  They were both wagging their tails the entire time.  Mazey went to the vet Monday to remove her staples.  She now weighs 47.8 lb.  She
was excellent.  Surprisingly, she was not afraid.  She seems to be much less fearful and much more trusting each day.  She has come around so much and I expect this will continue day by day, week by week. Sorry this update is so long, but I just have so much to say about our wonderful little girl.  More updates to come...

1/25/03 - Mazey has been adopted

1/20/03 - Mazey is pending adoption.

1/15/02 - Mazey had to make a slight move to the Guardian Angel Boxer Haven...she entered our resort last night to have the entire home to herself...I put the other guys up...she walked around and checked out all the smells...we then went out to the back yard so she could do her business. Sure didn't take long.  Miss Mazey says, Boy it's cold out here...let me in!. She hung out with me in the computer room for a couple of hours of sleeping and cuddling:o)) I then put her in her crate...just a little nudge to get her in, then covered her up. Let my guys out and off to bed we went...Mazey barked for about 5 or 10 minutes on and off...I finally yelled from the back of the house...Be quite and lay down...well she did...not a peep the rest of the night...She is just such a sweet little girl...bouncy and wiggly. I got up this A.M. and let her out of her crate..no accidents at all...hurray! She ate a full bowl of food with some moist canned food mixed in...went out then back in the crate as I went off to work. My son was home sick today and he let me know she was good all day...no barking. Since she was such a great little girl I introduced her to my two females...they went outside and were running and playing with no issues...She seems to be a great girl that will find a home very quickly...I have some evaluations to perform on her and hopefully she will pass them all...please look for further updates on this girl coming soon.

1/14/03 - Good Morning Everyone! Well, after a very tiring night here, I'm still at home and going into work late! Mazey barked most of the night so I finally came down stairs where she was crated and slept on the couch near the crate. After some whining, I broke down and had her sleep with me while I kept the others in my room (oooh, my poor aching back). Anyway, because it seemed as though the dogs made her nervous while she was in the crate and she continually barked at them, I spent the morning so far, introducing her to the other 3 because I didn't want the entire day while I'm gone, barking at each other. I figured that she needed to smell them so they are used to each other while she goes back in the crate while I'm at work. So far there hasn't been really any major issues, just a few growls from her, but I tell her NO and the other's to leave her alone and it seems to work. She listens VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD and definitely seeks the comfort of me when I tell her it's okay and not to worry about the others cause they aren't going to hurt her. She will be going to the vet's tonight. Also, I've noticed blood when she's gets up from laying or sitting somewhere. I've cleaned her up a bit, but will definitely have the vet check that out as well.

1/13/03 - The Boxer Angels Resort is pleased to announce the arrival of it's 2nd guest....MAZEY! Mazey is a fawn female with a black mask, natural ears and a docked tail. She was picked up from one of our favorite shelters this evening. She was found on the streets as a stray; tired, hungry and pregnant! Mazey gave birth to several pups while in the shelter a few weeks ago and were adopted out. She of course was the only one left and needed medical attention so Boxer Angels Rescue came to her assistance immediately and got her out! Mazey is a 5little confused, nervous, and a bit sad since she is still getting adjusted to not having her pups anymore but I must say she is the most SWEETEST PETITE LITTLE girl I've seen so far! She took to me immediately and just leans her little fragile body into me as to say "love me". She even has gave me several little kisses and just wants to snuggle. Boy, this girl is a LOVE!!!!! I've tested her already with food and there no aggression what so ever. Also, she goes in the crate without any hesitation. With all the blankets I have in there, all she does is lay down and nest herself comfortably in a little ball and falls asleep. I even have placed a blanket over the crate for privacy and additional warmth since my two boxer kids and boxer guest don't know what to make of her yet and she does need rest! I even have caught my female dragging the blanket off of the crate as to say "why are you hiding?" She of course, will bark back when they are getting too close to the crate, however, this is suspected since she is still confused, not adjusted and probably intimidated with my 3 adult boxers around her. The shelter did say that she does get along with other dogs and even cats, however, she will be further tested with that when she gets more comfortable with her surroundings. Looking at her, she's young. My estimation is that she may be approx. 1 year old or even younger. She is scheduled to go to the vet tomorrow evening to get up to date on shots, etc.
