Pertinent Information
4/16/04 - Pooh is doing fine, she has the run of
the house and just loves to see the grand kids come so they can romp
together. Her Jan. vet. visit went great and the girl has only one
problem, she likes to eat too much. Her weight was 61 lbs. in Jan. now
she is at 56 lbs. and doing just fine without extra treats. She is a
great girl and we love her....
5/2/03-Pooh is doing just fine, she just completed her 3rd week of obedience, and is learning all the good habits she needs to be a perfect little girl. We just today completed the fence around the back yard, Pooh now has a 130'x 85' area to run and she just love it. She may be almost 5 years old but she can run like a race horse. She is a great girl and we all love her very much..... Ed 4/2/03 - Just a short note to let everyone know that Pooh is doing great, she has taught us well. She has bonded with us all and loves playing with the grand kids. She loves her morning walks and lets me know when it's time, she also knows the words "ride" and "eat" very well, when mentioned she does her bean dance. It seems she now feels, when every the car leaves the house she must be in it and for the most part is, she loves going with us and rides very well. She has been a joy to us since her arrival. She will start obedience traing next week. 2/22/03 - Just a quick note to let everyone know that Pooh is doing just fine. She went to the vet about a week and a half ago to check a stitch in her belly from the lump removal she had before she came home with us. We put her on an antibiotic for a couple of weeks and everything looks great now. Pooh is a great girl, she minds well and loves everyone, loves her daily walks and rides to the store. We are so thankful to everyone that made this possible. Gary has been especially helpful answering all the question I have had. I could go on and on about the girl, but if I had to use one word to describe her it would be PERFECT. 2/4/03 - I want to thank everyone that help us with this adoption, you are all GREAT... You will all be happy to know Pooh is doing great, each new day is better than the day before, she is settling in and I believe she knows she is in her forever home. I'm probably partial, but this little girl gives you more than anyone could ask. I walk her daily and as of today (just 2 days) she walks without pulling, and sets when we stop. I called the Pet Obedience Culb of Elmira and had to leave a message, I hope to get her in the next class, will update when I know more. She loves to learn and will probably be at the TOP of her class. 2/2/03 - Well, Pooh Bear went on her merry way home today. It was love at first site for proud Papa and Pooh...he couldn't get over how beautiful his pooh was and she was EXACTLY what he was looking for...I think I heard that about 20 times while he was here...Pooh was glued to him for almost the whole time..his wife and grand kids came along and she went to them for some loving every so often but definitely loved daddy best.
Thank you Gary for doing such a great job caring for
her...you should be thrilled at the new life she is gong to have...she
will be very spoiled with stay at home parents.
2/1/03 - Pooh Bear is pending adoption. 1/24/03 - I went at 10am to get my Pooh Bear. I was surprised when they told me that they had taken out 6 lumps from my baby girl. The vet was explaining that she had probably not been medically cared for much before she came to BAR. And why should this surprise me.....remember, this was a girl that was going to be sold to pay for drugs. Medical care was probably not on top of the low life owners' list of things that were important. He said he really went over her carefully, and now believes she is lump free. We will wait for the biopsies results, which might take about a week. I went into the back to see Pooh, and she looked up at me and got that wiggly bounce right away. It was sooo great to see her too, and we took her home. She is doing amazingly well. Later, we took her to meet a friends cat, to see how she would do. She paid no attention to it, just looked at it, and when it hissed at her, she just went about her business, no interest at all. So, Pooh is really ready for that forever home. To think, in less then 2 weeks, she has gone from a payment for a drug debt, to on her way to a loving, forever home, where she will be a devoted companion for life. Will that home be yours?? 1/23/03 - Today Pooh went in for her spay. We
called the vet to find out if we were going to be able to take her home
tonite, and the vet said that he would prefer she stay over for
observation. Seems that poor Pooh has quite a day. The vet removed 4
lumps/bumps from my sweet little girl, in addition to her spay. He will
send out a couple of them for biopsies. Poor baby. So, I do not have my
sweet girl with me tonite, and I do miss her. Does that sound nuts?? I
have 3 boxers, 1 shar pei and our 2 little pugger men (Yoda and Yoshi),
and I miss my little girl. Well, nuts or not...i do miss her. That is how
sweet and loveable she is. I will pick her up tomorrow at 10AM, and make
her comfortable here. So, lets all think positive thoughts for my Pooh
Bear, and pray that those biopsies show nothing. Till tomorrow..... 1/21/03 - Tonite, my sister came over with my 10 yr old niece and her 10 yr old friend to see our little foster pugs, and Pooh was talking away thru the crate. My sister wanted to know why Pooh was not loose like the pugs, and I explained that I thought she wanted to see the pugs. Well, she insisted that Pooh come out and visit, so we let her out. She was just wonderful with the 2 girls. She remained nice and calm, got her boxer wiggle and bean dance going, but she did not jump up on the girls. She stood along side them and let them pet her, but she did not jump on them. She was loving the attention. After a bit, she gently lifted herself up to them, so she could gently lick their faces. Of course, they loved her, and soon were not paying any attention to the pugs. Pooh stole the show, that sly girl :o))). This girl is just a wonderful girl, and she has lots of tolerance with these 2 little dynamo pugs all around her, and in her face. So, stay tuned, and I will update you after her spay on Thursday. 1/19/03 - Quick update on our Pooh Bear. Heart worm test results on her (and her daughter Grommit) came back negative. So, she gets spayed on Thursday, and she will be all set to go. She has proven to be an excellent companion. She is soo sweet and calm. Other then a slight case of counter surfing, and that no one ever took the time to teach her the basic commands, she is a wonderful calm girl. She has learned sit, and now does it on command before she gets her meals. Now don't misread calm....because she can run with the best, and play with the other dogs, but she also knows how to relax and just chill out. At my age, I appreciate a foster dog that knows how to chill :o)). She loves being pet and spoken softly to. This weekend my oldest daughter came home with her boyfriend. When he came downstairs, Pooh was barking at him. I have come to know this behavior as "talking", but he let us use him as a guinea pig. We let her out of the crate, while she was growling and talking, and she went right up to him and gave him kisses. Just as I suspected, that is just her way of communicating. I hope your apps are in on this girl, because she is just wonderful, and will make a very loyal addition to any family. 1/14/03 - Our little Pooh Bear went to the vet yesterday, and now she is UTD. Her fecal test is negative, and on Friday we will have her Heart Worm results. She weighed 50 lbs. She is really a petite little thing. She wanted to play with the other dogs in the waiting room, barking, whining, bouncing up and down on her front legs in typical boxer style, but i kept her close to me, as we are all learning about each other. She has made friends with her 2 mini boxers fosters (also know as pugs) downstairs. She seems to be pretty docile around other dogs. When Yoshi goes into his "Tasmanian devil" routines, she doesn’t know what to make of him. He scoots around, hops on the computer table, then plays “pug kamikaze dive bomber” on her, where he leaps off the table onto her, and she is like "let me outta here" :o))). She is very gentle with them. She tries to initiate play, but i don't think they really know what she wants. This girl is EXCELLENT in the crate. She settles down, and even if the dogs and me are down hanging out, she is fine to just chill in the crate. No demands, no barking, no crying, no nothing. Just perfect. It is also wonderful to have a foster that you can totally trust because she is 100% housetrained. Whenever i let her outside, she does her business in no time flat. She doesn’t seem to have any interest in toys yet, but she does have a pretty good boxer wiggle. She is also a pretty sweet kisser. She reminds me a lot of my 1st adopted boxer, Shotzie. A petite, sweet little girl, with a little gray in the mask. In fact, except to the natural ears that Pooh has, she looks a lot like my Shotzie, and for those of you who know me, you know the soft spot I have for my Shotzie girl. We hadn’t fostered a female in quite a while, and I have definitely taken a real liking to this girl. Guess I still like females (my wife is very relieved :o))) She is eating 4-5 cups a day, mixed with yogurt and some turkey, and loves it. She is not picky, she even eats some of her food dry. Pooh's spay is set for next week, at which time we will also have some lumps looked at and evaluated. We will let you know how it goes. So, keep your eyes on this girl, this one is definitely a keeper!! 1/12/03 - The Wings & Halo Haven has a new guest, and what a sweetie she is. Welcome Pooh Bear to BAR. Thankfully, because there are still wonderful people in this world, Pooh Bear, and her daughter Grommit are safe and sound in their foster homes, out of harms way. Seems the dogs were going to be sold to either pay for drugs, or to settle up a debt. They would have ended up in some very bad hands, so this wonderful person who overheard this transaction, gave the owners the money they were going to get for them, and then turned them over to BAR. GOD BLESS YOU!!! Both girls look incredibly alike. And each are sweet petite girls. We have now had Pooh for a day, and she has made herself quite comfy. At 1st she appeared to miss her daughter, (who left last nite) who went to another Long Island foster home, but she seems to be adjusting better today. She has been introduced to the other 3 resident boxers, and is getting along well with all of them. She also has a wonderful appetite.
Pooh is definitely house trained, and does her business quickly when let out. She has about 5-7 lbs to gain, which is not to bad. She has some gray in her mask, which may be a bit premature, possibly because of her previous life. She has been used for breeding, in fact the old owner was over heard that they could be used for breeding stock, right before they were saved by the good Samaritan. He teeth are totally white, so I don't think she is that old. We estimate her to be 5, but based on her actions, she might be even younger. We probably won't ever know. Pooh is also quite the talker. She looks at you, and does this low level growling thing (not threatening or aggressive at all), and when you say, "what baby, what", she raises the volume, while pursing her lips. Finally she will start barking to finish her thoughts. I have had a few fosters do this, and it is really quite cute. We need to make a vet appointment to bring her UTD, and get her spay, which we will do this week. So, get your app's in, because you definitely want an opportunity to get this girl for your very own. HURRY!!! 1/11/03 - Pooh Bear and her daughter, Grommit
came in to BAR today. Pooh Bear will
be fostered by Uncle Gary in LI so look for many updates and lots of
information to follow! |
