Eco is doing excellent! She is so attached to me like I have never
experienced before. She never lets me out of her sight. If she can be
touching me she even happier! Eco is the calmest, sweetest dog I have
ever had the privilege of having in my life. She is wonderful with
everyone is listens very well. She and my Havenese go everywhere with my
son and I, we are together as much as possible. She sleeps on a huge dog
pillow on my bedroom floor. She gets up with me goes right outside,
barks to come in and makes a fast B-line for the couch where she curls
and snuggles in, she is usually there when I leave for work. She has
never been crated in my home and doesn't need to. I do have to shut the
bathroom door when we leave her because she will get into the garbage.
She did this one time and she was vomiting continually. So I called the
emergency vet hosp. at 11:00 P.M. and took her in. We were there til
3:00A.M. She received fluids under her skin and medicine and special dog
food for her sensitive stomach. We got home and still she vomited a few
more times and then she and my son and I got some much needed rest. It
costs $80.00 just to walk in the door but when someone you love is in
trouble, money is not a factor. She goes to the vet regularly and went
about a week after the emergency episode. She had a upper respiratory
infection and went on antibiotics. She really looked like she didn't
feel well just looking at her eyes and she lagged behind when we went
for our walk. It was just like reading a child's eyes. My yard is fenced
in so I open the door and my dogs go free and are free to roam whenever
I'm outside. If I'm not out neither one will stay out long though. One
day Eco came in and her ears felt so cold that I sat warming them with
my hands. She wasn't out only a few minuets and barked to come in but
they sure felt cold! I never leave and keep them out fence or not, I
like to know they are safe inside. I love her and feel very lucky to
have Eco as a part of my family, she seems to appreciate us too!

- Eco is doing excellent. She fell into place here with us like she has
always been here. We could not have asked for a better dog. She listens,
she's so loving and gentle and just takes everything in her stride. My
grandaughter is all over her and she seems to be oblivious to her.
She loves the car and even went camping with us. I have never seen a dog
want to be so close to you. Sometimes there isn't even stepping room
behind me she is so close. I've learned to look before I move.
Eco is no trouble at all. I only wish she had just little more energy to
play ball or Frisbee with my son Jacob. She is maintaining her weight,
she gained about 4lbs. She is still on vitamins and her thyroid pills.
Her elbow with the cyst has been all taken care of and is all healed. We
bought her a huge pillow bed for dogs but she will have nothing to do
with it instead she enjoys my couch as does my Havanese, Jacob and I are
usually left the two recliners. Well that's all for now.
7/10/04 - Eco is a wonderful addition to our family! She is so
loving and gentle and likes everyone. She follows you from room to room
and loves to go where we go in the car. She gets along very well with
our other dog Neiko and my daughter's dog, Boe. She is a delight. Last
night I came home though and she had peed on the rug in front of the
door and had been on my couch and either peed there also or had licked
her front elbow a lot because there was blood and a lot of wet all over
it and the pillows. I worked yesterday and was home about 3 hrs. and
then left to go to my son's boy scout barbeque for 4 1/2 hrs. I am
hoping that she just didn't have enough time to go potty enough because
my daughter came over also with her dog and Eco was excited. What ever
the vet did last Friday 7/3 to her elbow did not work and we have had to
bandage it. I went and got her medicine and her heartguard, but after
yesterday's mess I have decided to bring her to my vet next week. Jacob
was at camp all week this week but the rest of the summer they will be
together and next week I will be home on vacation also. She is always
wagging her tail whenever you look at her and is eating and drinking
very well. Well that's it for now.
7/3/04 - Eco has been adopted.
Eco's new family made a 4 hr. drive (one way) to pick up their new
addition. Miss Eco did NOT make this easy on me....she kept looking up
at me and checking to see if I was going with them. But once she was
sitting so pretty in the backseat with her new skin brother, she seemed
right at home. Eco is very lucky to have found such a warm and loving
family (and quickly too!)....and they are lucky to be getting such a
sweetheart.
6/30/04 - Eco is pending adoption
6/27/04 - A short note on Eco girl to let you know she is still
doing SUPER. We’ve had quite a bit of summer company around here and Eco
is a doll with everyone. She just soaks up whatever attention she can
get, then settles down nearby and takes a nap. We’ve had small kids,
teens, adults, and seniors here to visit and Eco is wonderful with all.
One day last week we had to leave Eco in her crate for what would
probably be an average workday (7 or 8 hrs.). She did just fine....happy
to get out and run around when we got home but no stress being ‘home
alone’ either. Eco has her vet visit scheduled for the end of this
week...no concerns, just the routine check up. Then there will be
nothing to stop Eco from heading off to life with a new family. Hope
you’ve got your application in...Eco is waiting.
6/18/04 - Getting to know you....getting to know all about
you......... One of the best parts about adopting a mature dog is
finding out the things they know, the things they like, the things they
don’t like. I don’t want to spoil it for whoever is going to be Eco’s
permanent family but I will share just a couple of Eco’s secrets. One is
that she gives very tiny kisses...not big slobbery ones.
Her teeth are in surprisingly good shape, too, so she doesn’t have
stinky breath (ewww). Another plus is that she loves a nice leisurely
walk...with or without another dog. She knows ‘heel’ and is very
attentive to what you want her to do...even doing her ‘business’
practically on command.
Eco loves to curl up at someone’s feet and snooze...but she’s also up to
a play session with one of the other dogs. We’ve been crating Eco at
night for no other reason than all our bedrooms are taken up with the
resident pooches. She would probably rather be sleeping at the foot of
someone’s bed but does fine in her comfy cozy crate. If we could find a
downfall to this girl, we’d tell you...it’s just that we can’t. We know
that her age is her biggest barrier to adoption...and that really is a
shame. Eco deserves a loving home and a family she can know as her very
own. She will give sooooo much in return.
6/14/04 - If you’ve have ever considered adopting a senior (and
even if you haven’t) please go to the ‘Senior Boxers Showcase’ section
of our website and check out the many reasons mature Boxers make GREAT
family members. I can tell you that Eco fits each one of the items on
that list. You may wonder if/how a dog who has spent her life with
another family could assimilate into yours...but let me put your mind at
ease. I don’t know how, but Eco is relaxed, affectionate, obedient, and
acts as if she’s always been ‘one of us’. She gets along just
wonderfully with my Boxer girl, Maria....yes, two girls CAN get
along...it’s all about personality. Eco is quite submissive and my girl
is not pushy either...so already they are lounging around together,
eating side by side, and running together in the yard. Tomorrow, I’ll be
taking them for a walk together and will be sure to let you know how
that goes. Eco also is very gentle with our little Dachshund boy, Lenny,
as Eco is not ‘heavy’ with her paws and only comes up from behind to
sniff from time to time. We’ve had company come in and out of the
house...mostly kids and teenagers but also a couple of adults and I have
to say Eco has been the best behaved of my crew. She will bark a couple
times to let you know someone is at the door, but greets everyone with
wiggles and wags. Right now, she’s sleeping soundly by my side, waiting,
trusting that the person or family who will love her and care for her is
out there. Please don’t make Eco wait long.
6/12/04 - Sweet girl, Eco, arrived upstate today (thanks Melissa
and Linda) and has already settled in with everyone, young and old, big
and small, human and canine. Her ability to adjust so well is a
testament to the love she received in her last home...one that had her
since puppyhood...but due to a change in circumstances had to release
her to rescue. Eco was obviously well cared for. She is playful but well
behaved and quiet in the house, knows several commands, and truly does
not look or act her ‘mature’ age of 9. Her body bears a couple of scars
from past surgeries (nothing serious) but she moves like a much younger
dog. We will get some pictures up soon, but in the meantime I’ll just
tell you that she is a petite gal, flashy fawn with some grey in her
black mask, natural ears, and very pretty eyes. Her little nub wags
constantly and she eats up any attention you can give her. Eco will make
someone’s family more complete.....she has lived with young children and
loves them, she is calm and gentle enough on a leash to make a wonderful
walking companion for a person of any age. Eco loves other dogs but does
not strike me as one who would need them for constant companionship
either. She is just a love...and we all hope someone steps up quickly to
bring Eco into their home and heart so she can get started on a happy
‘rest-of-her-life’.

From Melissa: Well yesterday was my 3rd
transport...As everyone of them has been hard this was truly the hardest
for me...She was an owner surrender from circumstances beyond her
control...Her owner truly loved her and it was so sad to see them have to
say goodbye...Boy this was hard...I cried with her...Eco was a joy to have
in the car...you can tell she loves to ride in the car and boy was she
full of boxer wiggles...As we were driving to meet Linda she decided she
wanted to sit next to me in the front seat...plopped herself right down
and just wanted her belly rubbed the whole time (Boy that was hard for 2
hours)...Even though she is a senior dog she is definitely full of
SPUNK...It is hard to believe she is 9 years old except for her few grey
hairs...This little lady will definitely make some family truly
happy...Thanks for listening...Lots of luck Eco...
