7/4/04 - From Shane's Foster Family:  We have done quite a bit of talking about Shane and we  feel that if you will allow it, we would like to make him a part of our family.  I know that you typically require foster homes to give advance notice when wishing to adopt, however, Shane has been with us since January and we feel there will be such a huge void left in our house if he were to leave.  I got tears in my eyes when doing his last update.
It is funny because in the morning you can see all three of them "taking role call" with each other...they always check to make sure all three are awake and ready to go!!   We love him to death and so do our other two boys, Tyson and Bullet.
From the Directors of BAR:  We would LOVE to see the two of you adopt him!!! Consider it done.
We are very happy that you made this decision...kinda thought that you would after your other email saying how he was a part of the family but I didn't want to ask.. I wanted it to be your decision.
Congrats!!!!

6/5/04 - Where do I start with Mr. Shane's updates??  First, I will apologize for having not updated in quite a while.  To be truthful, Shane has integrated himself into our lives and more importantly our hearts so completely that I do not consider him "just a foster".  He has made great strides since coming here.  Shane no longer has accidents to speak of in his crate (when he arrived he was having two or three a day).  Shane sleeps through the night with no barking or crying any longer (he used to cry for 10 minutes).  Shane loves to cuddle and will ever so gently place his tiny little paws on my lap and rest his small head with perky ears on my shoulder and just wait to be picked up.  Shane and I have shared many a nap together.  He sleeps on your chest like a baby would...because he is nothing more than a little baby himself.  Shane knows his name now as we have affectionately been calling him "Shaney" and he knows not to chase the little Shi Tzu next door up and down the fence after only being told no a few times.  Shane is no longer the skinny little boy who arrived, but a young boxer baby who is filling out and waiting so patiently to find that special home where he can receive as much love from his family as he will give to them.  Please consider Shane if you would like a small young boy with a big heart!!

4/19/04 - Just a quick update on Shane...He is still the most loveable, adorable little guy we have seen (except for our 2 boys!!).  We had some new neighbors move in and they are in love with him!!  We have recently found some very effective strategies to work with Shane's manner issues!!  Shane does not like the squirt bottle, so we have started to use that when he gets too rough.  The other day I was wiping Shane's face off after he finished eating and he did not like me touching his mouth and nose with paper towel.  I gave him a stern NO and made him sit for a moment.  I then gave Shane a ton of praise and told him that he was a good boy while I finished cleaning his face.  We have not had any incidents like this since.  And talk about affection.  I have been saying all along how loving and sweet Shane is, but in the last few weeks after getting to know us better, he is the nicest boy.
He loves to walk up and lay his head in our laps.  Shane loves to snuggle in the bed at night and will lay his head on your tummy or back all night.  He really has made great strides and I can't wait for him to be placed with a special family who can share in this love!!

4/7/04 - Shane is still continuing to make great progress here.  It never ceases to amaze me at how quickly these dogs learn and are able to adapt.  Shane's only has accidents maybe two times a week which is much less frequently than when he first arrived.  He also does not cry any longer and actually enjoys his crate.  I believe Shane feels it is his safe spot.  Shane also is now completely up to date on shots and is ready to go.  When Shane first arrived, he was reluctant to come to us for attention, but now he is the first one at my feet when I sit down.  He is such a people dog and is so affectionate.  Shane continues to be a rough player, in that he uses his mouth to play.   He gets carried away with my boys sometimes, but if he is given a stern "no" and made to sit in time out for a minute, he knows it is time to settle down.  We have really enjoyed watching Shane grow and develop.  He is starting to gain muscle and his coat is getting much more shiny! I am surprised that Shane has been around this long, as he is so full of energy and has so much and so many more years to offer his new family.

3/21/04 - We are very happy to have Shane back.  He is adjusting very nicely.  I believe he remembers his two foster brothers as they have been playing well together.  Shane went right back into his crate with no problem.  I think he remembered that as well.  Shane is still a typical puppy.  He has a ton of energy and loves to play.  He plays rough with both humans and dogs, but is not mean spirited!!  Shane is still so young and has many years to offer to his forever home!!

3/20/04 - Unfortunately Shane has been returned to rescue as his play included nipping at hands and the children in his new family were too young to understand his method of play or to correct him to stop this behavior.  He will need a home with children who are a little older and can reinforce "No" when he does something wrong, which will quickly teach him what is expected of him and what his limits are.
He has arrived to his former foster home safe and sound!!  He is outside right now with Bullet and they are tearing it up..just like old buddies!!  He seems well...very spunky and ready to play!

3/1/04 - We just brought Shane home last night and he is really a love. He blended right into the family and seems very happy - not even a mess last night. He doesn't like the crate but we will work on that for those days we need it.

2/29/04 - Shane has been adopted.
Shane just left with his new family!!  He instantly took to them and they to him.  They seem like a very loving family and with two young boys, I'm sure Shane will have all of the attention he needs.  It was very funny to see him sitting by their feet near the door...it was like he knew he was going
somewhere that was good!!  Erin

2/4/04 - Hey everyone, Shane here. I am happy to say that I am finally figuring this whole crate thing out and I actually am starting to like it. The thing that won me over was all of the yummy cheese that I get if I go in good. Also, sometimes Mom sings to me and tells me stories. I like to listen to stories and sometimes I lay down and go to sleep and I don't cry all night!! I have really made tons of progress. All I need is someone who loves me and wants me to be good. I really will behave for food!! I eat like a horse and play like a kid. I have even gotten that old grumpy Brother of mine, Bullet, to play with me. He doesn't growl at me. I think it is because I gave him lots of kisses. I like to give Mom and Dad lots of kisses too. I am so gentle and I just want to please everyone. Everyone says how cute I am and boy do I know it...I strut my stuff all over!! I love it when new people come to visit. I let Mom and Dad know with a little noise, but then I am right by their side, hoping they will pet me!! Because I am so young, I have so many years to give back to whoever adopts me. You can even ask my Mom about all of the improvements I have made!! I am a great kid...please, can I come stay with you?

1/29/04 - Shane has been neutered and is ready to go!! He pulled through like a champ and is healing very nicely, you would hardly even know he has had surgery. He was a little groggy on the day of the operation, but he has been back to his old exuberant self ever since! All of the people at the vet's said how adorable he is. Shane is getting better at accidents in his crate, it is becoming less frequent. He just needs time and someone willing to work with him. We have also found out that Shane loves the snow. He puts his head down into the new fluffy snow and shakes it all around. He is a character and I think we laugh every day because of what he does!! He is a loyal puppy and just wants to be loved...don't let him pass you by...he is a friend for life!

1/24/04 - Our little Shane is still thriving here. He keeps getting stronger and is finally starting to fill out some. Shane is going in for his neuter on Monday. Please keep him in your thoughts for that day. Shane has recently started to show some interest in toys. He loves to take a rope toy and throw it in the air and catch it. He then shakes it until he makes himself dizzy. He is such a crazy little boy, but has the biggest heart of all. He is so much like a little puppy with all of his energy and silly antics. Shane does not seem to be bothered by much, he is really easy going and very tolerant. I can pick Shane up, pull on his ears, hold his feet, look at his toes. Shane is starting to get a little mouthy lately, but listens when he is told no. Shane loves to play with all dogs and gets along so well with them. He is very sensitive and is easily offended. If no one wants to play, he cries and throws a little puppy tantrum. It is like watching a toddler!! Shane can't wait to go to his new home where he can receive all of the love he deserves and the attention that he needs!!

1/20/04 - Shane is continuing to develop into a handsome young boy. He is becoming so much more socially acceptable each and everyday. Last night there were no accidents in the crate at all. We have found that putting a treat into his crate (like a kong with peanut butter) subdued him somewhat. Also, as funny as it may seem, Shane seems to have somewhat of a rational side. I sat and talked with him while he was in his crate and I fed him cheese. When I shut the light off, there was not a peep. He just needs to be told when enough is enough. He really is a sweet boy. He does not have a mean bone in his body and from what I understand, his previous owner had younger children around Shane. He eats like a champ and looks like he is starting to fill out a bit more. He has beautiful eyes and will look you straight in yours. He is so eager to please. Shane is very curious and is constantly checking things out. We call him our "security system" because he lets us know when things aren't how they should be. In just a little over a week we have seen how loyal and dedicated Shane is to us. In fact, right now he is sitting at my feet just looking up, waiting to be told what to do next. We are going to try to get him neutered sometime early next week. He really is a fun little boy who has years ahead of him to make his forever family very happy.

1/17/04 - Hi, It's me, Shane. Foster Mom said I could try my paws at typing so that I could let you all know a little bit more about me. Foster mom says I am cute as a button. I have to agree with her. I may be tiny, but I am cute. I love to play with my foster brothers in the snow. They are both bigger than me, but sometimes I can run faster than them and I can even tackle them...you know, like in football. They usually love to play with me, but sometimes they get tired of me and so I have to stop. I am learning my name really well and foster Mom is trying to teach me some other words like "sit" and "stay". She says "leave it" a lot and I think that means I better not touch!! My favorite things to do inside are to play some more with my brothers, play with toys then I like to walk into each room and sniff around (I especially like to sniff the floors), next I might take a nap for ten minutes on my bed and then I like to sit on Mom's feet while she scratches my head, then I usually walk around again. I am always going. I always like it when Mom plays with me!! I get so excited every time she comes home, I jump (not on her) high in the air and run around. I eat really well too!! I have been gaining some weight, so I feel better. I am not mean to anybody. Sometimes I bark when the mailman comes by or if the kids are riding their bikes in the street, but hey, I have to let Mom know what is going on. Mom says I will do really well in a home where my new forever family can give me a lot of attention and some obedience lessons and maybe has a brother or sister for me to play with. I don't like to be left alone and I don't do well if I have to stay in a crate all day. Sometimes that is when I have accidents. I used to have them in the house when I first got to my foster home, but I have stopped. Well, I guess I should go now... there is all of that fun snow to be played in!!

1/16/04 - After almost a week of being here, Shane is fitting in as though he has been here forever. His accidents in the house have stopped. He still has one in his crate every so often if he gets upset or is in for too long, but he is still young. Shane is also learning a lot of proper social skills while here. He came in without too many, as I feel he was not given enough attention by his previous owner. My two boys have taught him proper play and he is also learning the value of good behavior when food is involved. Shane is going into his crate much better than when he first arrived and he only whimpers for about 10 minutes until he falls asleep. Shane loves to play outside. His favorite game is to see how fast he can run around and how high he can jump. Shane really is a good hearted dog. He just absolutely loves being around people and wants to please everyone. He thrives on attention and responds very well to positive reinforcement. Shane is a quick learner, he has come to know his name and is learning basic commands. He has learned "leave it" quite well. Shane would be good with other dogs as he just loves to play. He follows my boys around like a little kid brother, all the while trying to initiate play. Shane has very quickly won me over with his charm and his youthful spirit. Maybe tomorrow I will let him try his paw at the computer...look for a few words from Shane tomorrow!!

1/11/04 - Meet Shane. He is a beautiful young boy, with a lot of puppy energy. Shane is a bit on the thin side right now, but we are working on getting some weight on him. Shane is a love. He is definitely a people dog and so far is the only foster I have who immediately hit it off with both of my dogs, who are usually apprehensive about a new dog coming into their territory. Shane has a temperament and attitude that you can't help but love. He greets you with tons of wiggles and lots of love. More updates to follow, as we get to know Shane better. Shane won't be here for long, so get your applications in now!!
