10/17/03 - Hi All,  The wonderful news about Mikey going to his Forever Home reminded us that we should be sending a little info on Maxine and Caesar.
They are both doing great here on the mountain.  They each have very different personalities.  Maxine is more of a "lady's dog"  and more standoffish than Caesar.  She's doing very good with the whole rest of the crew now.  In the beginning it was a little touch-and-go.  Maxine is very affectionate when she feels like it.
We really think she would enjoy "snacking on" one of our cats but so far she's holding off.  Maxine came to us with a hematoma in her right ear......which she's had for years.......and it's never been cleaned.  So now we clean it every three days and Maxie just loves it!!  She likes having her nails cut and LOVES to go for rides in the car.  And she is excellent off leash.....she runs like the wind at the field when we walk all three Boxers.  To see Maxie run.....you'd never believe she's as old as she's supposed to be!
Now for Caesar.  Caesar was returned to rescue to be adopted out again but we just fell in love with him again.......the same as when we fostered him and had to let him go to his Forever Home before!!  Caesar came back into rescue twenty five pounds heavier than when he left.  We're working on that.  He absolutely loves everybody....both human and animal.  So far we've seen no problems from the surgeries Caesar has had......Although the scar from the mass cell tumor on his front leg still seems to be a little touchy.  But this big boy really enjoys getting out there and running with Cosmo and Maxie!!  Seems like Caesar and James are "joined at the hip"!!!!  Can't move two feet and he moves with me.....no matter what!!  Tonight Caesar and James start  classes to get Caesar ready for testing to be a registered Therapy Dog.
Our trainer feels he's older......more like six or seven.  So both Maxine and Caesar are older, graying dogs who are absolutely wonderful!!  They came to us not needing to be taught anything.
There's so much to be said for older dogs.  James and Diana

9/13/03 - Caesar has been adopted by his original foster family who could never get him out of their hearts.  Congratulations to them all.

9/12/03 - Caesar is pending adoption.

9/2/03 - Caesar went for a quick vet check up while his Foster sister was at the vets also. The lump on his shoulder is a fatty deposit which hopefully will go away with some exercise and less fatty food. He also had his nails clipped. I believe that Zoe ( Samantha is due for her next operation on 09/15, so I might call ahead to see if he can be checked over quickly while I am there.
If Caesar feels that he does not want to go outside (because of rain ) he can be one stubborn young man to get out the door. I am sure that my neighbors will use us on the funniest home videos as I pull, push and prod to get him out the door. I am sure that I get a lot wetter then he does and that he is just getting a great laugh out of this. He is becoming a great role model (except for his not going out in the rain ) for Samantha. She just looks up to him so much but of course he is 10 time bigger. Oh, I mean that she looks up to him to see what it is that she should be doing, how to act. They are like baby Huey and his counter part. They will give each other baths and sleep with their heads on each other. They both love to just sit there and sniff the cats whickers, I wonder if it tickles them when they do this?  Nancy loaned me a digital camera so as soon as I can remember to buy some batteries for it and learn how to use it I will post some recent photos of this gentle giant.

8/31/03 - Unfortunately, Caesar's families situation changed and they were forced to return him to BAR.  He is such a special boy and deserves a forever home.

6/22/03 - Hi everyone Caesar is doing very well. Same old Cesar. He had a great week we took him to the vet just to get checked up, everything is fine, we gave him another bath, he still doesn't like his ears to be cleaned but we cleaned them anyway. He loves his nails to be trimmed though. He's had plenty of friends come to play with him the past month. We've had some bad rain storms lately and we realized that Cesar is terrified of thunder and lightning. He would not leave my side for a second during the heavy storms. He's so cute. As soon as I figure out how to attach a picture we will send some great shots we have of him...
From Caesar's former foster family:
Caesar has come a long way since we got him here on Boxer Mountain!!  We are so glad he's doing so well!!  We talk about and think about Caesar all the time!!  I happened to be at the vet in Danbury a week or so ago......and all the Vet techs and Dr. Culbert.....who did Caesar's surgeries.......were asking how he was doing.  Caesar is such a wonderful Boxer Boy and we know his family loves him!!  Michelle and Jose' we hope you and your daughter are all doing well!
James and Diana

5/24/03 - It's May 24th sorry for the 5 day delay. Caesar is doing well. He's had a rough month. I suffered a mild heart attack two and a half weeks ago and while I was in the hospital Michelle told me that Caesar wasn't himself. She said he wasn't his usual happy boy. He just sat in my chair and cried a lot. She said he would just mope around. But I'm back now and he's been happier then I've ever seen him, back to his happy, playful self. he's just the best. We really love our boy. He hasn't ever had any accidents and he's just so polite. A perfect Boxer Angel. Well it's been so long since I've been to the site or On-line for that matter so I'm off to surf the site and see if I see a good match for him. Till the next update. Which will hopefully be real soon with pictures of Caesar. Take care everyone.

4/20/03 - Well it's been two months since Caesar has been with us and it feels as if he's always been here. He's just great. Just a mellow happy dog. Nothing new has really happened. He just loves to be wherever I go. We are thinking of getting him a buddy. We'll keep our eyes open to the Bar available dogs page for a good match. We have nothing but great things to say about Ceasar. He's one of the family, a great son. Till next time...

3/20/03 - Hello everyone we're the proud parents of Caesar. He's been with us for a month now. All we can say is WOW! What a great dog. He's just perfect. His first night was very smooth. He slept with me (Jose) on the couch. He's been to the vet twice since he's been with us. The first visit was to change the bandage on his front right leg and the second was to have it removed for good. The wound looks great! It's completely closed it just needs hair and it will be like new. We were given a liquid to soak the wound in for ten days and he had to ware a HALO so he would not lick it. He was not happy about that but it was for his own good. We absolutely love him. He is so good with our 2& a-half year old daughter Alyssa. Sometimes it seems as if he feels he's the Dad, it's so cute the way he protects her. He had to get used to Michelle swinging the Baby in her arms he didn't like that much he growled at Michelle for that. But he got used to it. He's had no accidents, no behavior problems, it's just been a pleasure. Thank you BAR for allowing us to have him and thanks to James and Diana for taking great foster care of him. Until our next update. Take care. The Soto's

2/19/03 - Caesar has been adopted.
We met Caesar's Forever Mom and Dad in Danbury after we went to get Caesar's bandage changed at the Vet this morning.  He'll need it changed once more.....but Michelle and Jose' will have it done by their Vet.  They were so excited to see Caesar! Especially after all this waiting. You people who say your Fosters don't look back are very lucky.....'cause Caesar looked back a lot. Once you make eye-contact.....you're done!! A lot of tears of HAPPINESS!
Caesar has come so far ........thanks to BAR........it's amazing!
We'll be looking so forward to updates on our boy.

2/12/03 - I had Caesar over to the Vet this morning for a look/see and a re-bandaging.
The wound looks very good. I have one more appointment for next Monday
afternoon.....then Caesar will be going to his loving Forever Home. Michelle
and her husband have been so patient in waiting for Caesar. Thanks you guys!
Our appointment is on Monday afternoon and we're gonna try to arrange a
meeting with Michelle and her husband to pick up Caesar in the Danbury area.
If not Monday......we'll have him ready for them whenever they want. We love
Caesar SSOOOO MUCH!! But we can't wait to see him get to his Forever Home.

2/8/03 - We picked up Caesar today. Dr. Culbert wasn't in because of the snow.  We will talk to her on Monday when we take him back in for a check up. Caesar is doing well.  He's very tired.  He's been through so much!  But he still has a wonderful appetite....AND ATTITUDE!   Turns out they didn't do a skin graft after all. They were able to close the large wound.....which will be better yet for Caesar.

2/4/03 - Boxer Mountain reporting in.
We're so happy for Caesar.  The tumor on his rear left leg and the tumor on his jaw, the Vet said, are the kind that will never grow back.  The tumor on his right front leg has an 80% chance of NOT returning!!  Yeah Caesar!!  .....Which are not bad odds!!
Caesar's front leg wound will need a skin graft because it's really quite big.  It heals from the outside in and may take a couple of months to heal totally......  Then.....the skin would be only paper thin.
And if he were to bump it.....it could rip all the new THIN skin off.
With the skin graft.....the skin will be almost as thick and tough as normal.......and will heal in one third the time.
We're taking Caesar this Thursday for the surgery and picking him up Friday.
Boxer Angels Rescue works on a very limited budget.  If you would like to donate just for Caesar......just specify him on Pay-Pal or your personal check in his name.

We feel badly for Caesar's Forever Family because he must stay here on Boxer Mountain for an additional two weeks.....so he can do his follow-up visits with Dr. Culbert.  This poor guy has put up with sooooooo much but he is just such a PLEASURE to have here!  We'll miss him when he goes home.

1/30/03 - Caesar has really been feeling better the last couple of days.  He's been very busy cleaning himself. He's even been taking some runs around the yard by himself. We don't let him out with the crew with his front leg still being bandaged and sore.
Took him to see Dr. Culbert in Danbury this afternoon. Everybody there just
loves Caesar! He had all of his staples taken out today...except for the ones in his front leg....which was re-bandaged with the sterile dressings.  The Vet says it's doing great...healing well...but it looks pretty damn sore to me. Caesar didn't make a peep when the bandages were removed......he's SUCH A WONDERFUL BOY!! He let the Vet look in his mouth and that's healing well also. As of today....Caesar's biopsy reports have not come back. We have an appointment for Monday, and Dr. Culbert expects they will be there by then.  The Vet feels Caesar may be able to go to his Forever Home next week-end.  Ceasar has gained back the three pounds he lost!! He still needs five or six more pounds.
Stopped at my regular Vet on the way home today to show the Vets and Techs how great Caesar looks. And they all were really excited and took polaroid pictures of the handsome boy. Our Vets are all wonderful....but it's nice when they tell you "We can't do this.....it's a little out of our league" and recommend a competent Vet to do the job.
Took Cosmo for a ride with us today and he and Caesar got along great in the van.  We've had Caesar with us here on Boxer Mountain for six weeks. In all that time neither one of us has ever heard him bark!

1/27/03 - Sorry for the delay on updating you on Caesar....but we've been waiting until he went back to Dr. Culbert. The Vet is very happy with everything. I was concerned because he lost three pounds.  But she said it's from stress since he had the major surgeries...and not to worry. No staples have been removed yet.
Caesar has sutures in his neuter incision, his belly-button incision, and some in his front leg incision.....although....as we've said before....the front leg is not entirely closed. Dr. Culbert explained how the front leg incision heals in stages and the bandages have to be changed every three days....so I'll be going back this Thursday, next Monday, and the following Thursday.
Caesar still may need minor surgery on his front leg.  I'm so glad I have the time to do this for Caesar.
None of the Biopsies have come back yet. Since there was a piece of bone to
be biopsied.....it takes longer. Dr. Culbert said she'd let me know if it comes in before I see her again.
Caesar is such a wonderful boy!! I get a little concerned because he's getting very attached to me.....he's like my shadow.
His Forever Home will be getting one of the nicest Boxers we've ever seen.
And I'm sure it will be no time at all and Caesar will be "their shadow"!! He's just that kind of Boxer Boy! So please be patient....he'll be worth the wait.
Going to try to get together with Tina again and take some new pictures. The operation was a TRUE SUCCESS and we want everybody to see how GREAT CAESAR looks!!
James and Diana

1/23/03 - Caesar is home at Boxer Mountain and taking a well-deserved nap on the end of the bed. When I picked him up.....the Vet tech said he was not a happy
camper this morning when they had to change the dressing on his front leg. He made sounds they've never heard before! But I think any man or animal who had all the same things done in one day that he has had.......and gone home the next day would have reacted the same way OR WORSE!!
Caesar's front leg is bandaged from his elbow down to the tips of his nails.
His rear left leg has an incision about 5 inches long with staples....no
bandage. His neutering scar looks normal. He has a medication patch for
pain which we will remove on Saturday.
OK NOW....The lower jaw looks WONDERFUL!! Caesar looks like any normal
Boxer........no tongue hanging out....just a little shorter face. HE IS SOOOOOO HANDSOME!!! We'll have to try and get together with Tina and take new pictures......after some rest time. (he looks so good....you just have to see him). Dr. Culbert did an awesome job with Caesar!!
He will be on diet of Wellness canned food.......which he loves.... for two weeks.
We have to take Caesar back to Dr. Culbert on Monday to change the bandage on
his front leg.
Boxer Angels Rescue is an ALL-VOLUNTEER....TEAM EFFORT. But we are going to have a little extra say about Caesar's Forever Home. He is such an extra special Boxer Boy to us!!

1/22/03 - We just heard from Dr. Culbert. All the procedures have been completed on Caesar. Although she did call earlier this morning because she was concerned
with the mass cell tumor on his back leg bleeding excessively and she wasn't sure if she could do everything today. So we've been two nervous wrecks since she called this morning. We got the most recent call at 1:15.
The removal of the tumor in Caesar's lower jaw went fine. She took out the jawbone back just past his canine teeth. She had plenty of skin and all to sew things back up. She said you will hardly be able to tell .......and everything should work well.
The removal of the mass cell tumor on Caesar's rear left leg went well. She believes she's gotten every bit of the tumor out. The tumor on his front leg was the size of a golf ball. This was removed but left not much skin to close the wound. So there is a small area which could not be closed but the vet feels this should heal on it's own......if not.....she will have to do a skin graft to close it.
Caesar was also neutered and that went well. AND she found a VERY Large
ingrown hair in his bellybutton which she took out....said it's probably been
there since birth.
The tumors were sent out for biopsies and we pray the results come back good.
If Caesar is doing well we'll pick him up tomorrow afternoon. We'll take him back to Dr. Culbert to have the sterile dressings changed. AND she did say he is one of the nicest Boxers she has ever come across.....the easiest going. So Caesar will be back on Boxer Mountain for some well-deserved R&R and lot's of TLC!!!!!
We want to thank everyone for all their good thoughts and prayers.......please keep them coming for Caesar's recovery.
James and Diana

1/18/03 - We've had our three grandsons here for a few days. And NOT to our surprise.........Caesar is just in love with them!! He loves to snuggle, gives them sweet, gentle little kisses, and listens to their commands for sit, no, etc. We were out for some time today and we left Caesar free to roam in the house with two of our other dogs. He did absolutely nothing wrong. As a matter of fact...he didn't even move from his comfortable laying position on the couch when we came through the door!! We're getting close to Caesar's surgery day and we're getting a little nervous for him. His surgery will put quite a strain on BAR's finances.....especially since Caesar is not the only dog who receives medical attention. But if you'd like to make a donation JUST for Caesar....the money will be used just for him. And we would really appreciate it......Thank you so very much...CAESAR'S FOSTER MOM AND DAD.

1/16/03 - Well we have a date set for Caesar's surgery on Wednesday, January 22nd. It will be done by a specialist in Danbury, Connecticut. If everything goes well....we'll be doing all the procedures....which include: the removal of the tumor in Caesar's mouth plus part of the lower jawbone, the tumor on his back leg, the fatty tumor on his front leg, and neutering. And if they have time....they're gonna give him a new muffler on his butt Cause that baby is non-stop! JUST KIDDING!!
The Vet will biopsy the the jawbone to be sure they get all the tumor. Caesar's tongue will stick out all the time.....but that will just add to his character.
Caesar is one wonderful, sweet boy and continues to do really well here on Boxer Mountain!! He'll need all your good thoughts and prayers to help him through this tough time.

1/14/03 - Hello from Boxer Mountain!! Caesar has been to see another specialist for a third opinion. This was quite a ride for him in the car and he was just great! He never makes a sound.....he just looks out the window and enjoys the view..and passes gas. The Vet's opinion was pretty much the same as the other opinions....except he did a needle biopsy of the tumor on Caesar's back leg and found it to be a mass-cell tumor. We won't know what number mass-cell it is until the tumor is removed.......1 to 4...4 being the best. It seems that they're worried most about this mass-cell tumor. Removing the tumor in Caesar's mouth is a straight-forward surgery. But the tumor on his leg could be more of a problem. They have to really make sure they get it all. We still feel confident in the Vet's we've consulted to do the proper job...no matter who we choose. BAR's five directors will be making a decision by the end of this week as to who will do the surgery. Caesar continues to be..without a doubt...one of the nicest, low-key boxers...or for that matter.....any dog..that we have ever come across!! We will certainly miss him when he goes to his FOREVER HOME!! If you are interested in adopting Caesar...PLEASE, PLEASE be patient!! He will be worth the wait!!

1/6/03 - Greetings from Boxer Mountain! Took Caesar to see one of the specialists today. Dr. Culbert is a surgeon of soft tissue and oncology. And also does Orthopedic and neurologic surgery. She feels that if everything goes well with the surgery......Caesar's quality of life will be excellent. Dr. Culbert took the time to explain everything in detail. Personally I feel very confident about her. But we are having consultations with two other surgeons next week. I did a little shopping on the way to the vet.....made three stops......and Caesar was great!! He never barked at anyone..just sat patiently waiting for me. I cut his nails this week and he is one of the few dogs I've seen who actually enjoys it. After his surgery, Caesar will need some R and R which will be here on Boxer Mountain with us. But it won't be long before he's ready to go to his FOREVER HOME!! He's not gonna be a handicapped dog...Maybe he'll need just a little extra love and care. Don't you think you can find it in your heart to give him his FOREVER HOME?? Caesar is SPECIAL!

1/2/03 - Caesar continues to do well here on Boxer Mountain. We have an appointment at Northside Veterinary Hospital in Danbury, Connecticut on Monday, January 6th. This is a referral clinic our Vet recommended. Spoke with Dr. Colbert today. She is very familiar with Caesar's situation....the tumor in his mouth....she has done these surgeries in the past. Perhaps, even if they have to remove some of the bone in the front of his jaw.....his quality of life would be excellent. There are no guarantees....all surgeries can be dangerous.....but we feel very positive about this. We will also be getting a second and third opinion. We're just so very anxious to have this taken care of. Caesar is such a wonderful Boy. We always tell you this but he REALLY is!!! He's just a sweetheart. We'll let you know how things go on Monday. Meanwhile....don't forget....Caesar is still available to be adopted into his Forever Home.

12/30/02 - Greetings from Boxer Mountain!!
Well we got wonderful news today about our Caesar. The first big hurdle has been cleared. The tumor in his lower jaw is BENIGN!!! BAR is now in the process of making a decision as to what course of action we'll take to correct the situation. Caesar has been with us for two weeks. It truly seems more like two years. He is such a wonderful, calm, low-key Boxer Boy!! But yet playful when it's time to play. We haven't crated him for almost a week! He doesn't need to be crated....he does nothing wrong! He had diarrhea for four or five days....BAD...and only had one small accident in the house. We're now feeding him Wellness Chicken 5-in-1. Now we have to rate his poops..from 1 to 10.. a "9"..held off on the 10 'cause they still have an odor.
Getting back to Caesar being crated. We went out today and were gone five hours. Caesar was left out in the house with four of our other dogs and he was fine. He is just so well-mannered! Caesar is going to make a good FAMILY DOG when he gets to his Forever Home. DON'T WAIT!! Put your name on the list now folks because Caesar is gonna be worth it!
P.S. CAESAR NEVER STOPS WAGGING HIS TAIL OR WIGGLING HIS BUTT!! HE'S JUST A HAPPY BOXER BOY!!

12/19/02 - Caesar came to Boxer Mountain from Long Island, New York. Thank you Gary for getting this wonderful Boxer Boy to us. Caesar rode really well in the car. After letting him relieve himself, we crated him and figured we'd introduce him formally to our crew the next day. But everyone had to come by Caesar's crate and sniff and check him out. All went well with that! Although our Dobie, Carlie, whined at him a lot. Caesar took it all in stride. Caesar had to be pushed in the crate....but after a little crying...he quieted down and slept all night!! He seemed to be getting along with everybody through the crate.....we decided to try them all together in the back yard. HURRAY!!!!! PLAY....PLAY.....PLAY!!! Caesar DID try to hump Cosmo......which didn't go over too well.....but he will be getting a snip-snip soooo that will take care of that situation.
We took Caesar to our Vet yesterday afternoon and he was scheduled for a four part surgery today. He has three tumors and he was to be neutered. They x-rayed his mouth and it seems the tumor in his jaw is quite extensive. So they biopsy it for now and we'll get the results in 5 to 10 days. Everything else has been temporarily put on hold. So until we get the results......PLEASE KEEP CAESAR IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. I'm going over to get him from our Vet now. We'll give him lot's of TLC. He really is a good boy.

12/17/02 - Today is the day that Caesar joined the BAR family. What we know of Caesar is the following. The owner was a young man living with his mom, who had him for several years. He was well loved. Unfortunately, he got into a bit of trouble with the law, and was sent to jail, leaving Caesar with his mom. His mom did not want Caesar, and he was kept outside in a kennel area for very long periods of time. There was no heat or shelter in this kennel area. He barked most of the time he was left outside. A neighbor became aware of the situation, and notified a friend who is involved in dog rescue. The friend spoke to the mom about giving up the dog, and the mom said she would be more then happy to do it, but before we could make the final arrangements, Caesar was turned into a kill shelter. Thankfully, it is one of our favorite shelters, and we were immediately notified. We had to wait the necessary # of days, and then Caesar was ours. Poor boy, he has some medical issues that will need immediate attention, and super foster dad and mom, James & Diana have already made the appointment at their vet.

I will say that this boy is sweet as can be. VERY friendly when you 1st meet him, knows several training commands, and gives the sweetest gentle kisses. He is quite the handsome boy, and rides beautifully in the car. Lets all keep this boy in our thoughts, and pray that his medical issues are nothing serious. Welcome to BAR, Mr. Caesar, your best days are ahead of you. Good luck!!
