7/23/04 - We can't believe Harley's been with us now an entire year, time just flies by! We're still
practicing with Harley as often as possible all of his commands, such as sit, down, stay, shake, and
heel. He's been doing great and really enjoys it here. Harley is stil extremely energetic and does the
classic "boxer wiggle" whenever possible. We're trying to teach him the "off" command for when he
gets over- excited and jumps up on visitors, and he's doing well with that. Harley is a very smart
dog. All in all, it has been a great first year, and we look forward to many more!

7/7/04 - Sorry this update is late again, we just lost track of time. We've been working with Harley on his
commands and he knows a few, but always tries to get a treat for whatever he does and doesn't like
laying down or shaking without a treat. We're still working on the "come" command, and are
confident that he'll learn soon enough. He is doing great here and seems to enjoy the company of the
cats. In the short time we've had him, he's become protective of my two sons and does anything for
them. Harley is learning to heel while walking but is still very curious of anything he sees, and
loves to go investigate! He also likes meeting new people, so much so that he tends to jump up on
them, so we've been working on correcting that bad behavior too. Harley still needs some work on his
commands, but we'll keep working with him until he gets it.

10/15/03 - Sorry this is a little late, time sure flies when you're having fun. Harley is still doing great, as we expected. He is learning the rules of the house, and has completed basic obedience and has gotten his first diploma, look out Canine Good Citizen, here we come! Harley is heeling on the leash and learning commands well. He's a wonderful dog, thanks BAR.

9/14/03 - Harley is doing great in his new home, and is adjusting beautifully. We enrolled him in an obedience class last month, and he is on his fourth week. He is beginning to perfect sit and come, but will only shake for a treat or to impress someone. Harley walks well on a leash, but our obedience class teacher prescribed a gentle leader to stop the occasional pulling. It's no surprise that he's doing great with our two cats, and he even lets them walk right underneath him. Harley is a wonderful dog. Stay tuned for his next update.

8/13/03 - Harley has been here a month now and has settled in very nicely. He pretty much ignores the cats, has been friendly with everyone he meets (we have to work on the jumping up on people when he is excited), and goes in his crate to sleep and when we are gone with no problem so far. We went away for a few days and he stayed with a friend of mine who also has a boxer (from another rescue service), and he had a blast and was a very good boy. Harley starts obedience training next week, and we will be working more on the come and down command, since he runs the other way when you say "come"! All in all, he has been a very good boy, and we are happy to have him, and hope that he continues to improve his manners as we work with him. More next month.

7/13/03 - Harley has been adopted.

7/10/03 - Harley is pending adoption.

6/30/03 - Harley is doing great. Fits right in. He’s such a sweetie. Loves to give gentle kisses. Gets along with Nitro. They play around a lot. They even eat next to one another. He walks well on the leash. If he gets ahead a little a tiny tug and he’s right back by you side. He knows sit, stay, lie down, off, no and gimme paw. Stay isn’t always consistent. He practically ignores people on the street when walking. He does counter surf, He and Nitro ate 1-¼ lbs of hamburgers, and so we’re working on this. Doesn’t like to be locked in his crate but if the door is left open, he will go in on his own. Sleeps in it all night. Gets along great with my nephews. Hasn’t tried to jump up on anyone. Would do great in a home where someone stays home. He craves the attention. He doesn’t need any special training. Just a boxer knowledgeable family who will do a basic obedience class with him and set up specific house rules they want him to follow. I call him ‘Harley the Love Bug’. He’s ready to go to his permanent home. I’ll send pics soon.

6/27/03 - Harley has been returned to BAR due to financial difficulties.  Look for updates soon.

1/11/03 - Hello all, Sorry this is a little late our computer was on the fritz. Harley has adjusted beautifully to his new home. We are so glad he is here. We celebrated a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas with him. What a great addition to our family he is great with the kids and loves to play ball and chase with them. His favorite time is bed time with the kids he makes sure everyone is tucked in. I am working part time for a few hours now and he does well in his crate while I am gone. We started letting him sleep in our room at night and he does very well. No accidents in the night, no barking or jumping all over the bed. He loves to hug and kiss us and sits in our laps if we let him. We are so glad to have him, after months and months of researching breeds and trying to find a dog that is good with kids and can handle a hectic household Harley is the perfect match for us. He settled in just like he has been with us since birth. Thank you for helping us to adopt a very special member of our family. We are very blessed to have Harley.

12/1/02 - Got off the phone with Beemer's new family family, (BTW, he is now called Harley) and I am so pleased to report that Harley is adjusting wonderfully to his new home and routines. He is the new "hit" of the neighborhood. He has met so many new people, and loves them all, as they do him. He has calmed down in the house, which was expected of course. He hardly knocks anyone down anymore, and his manners are improving. He is a very loved dog. He is eating wonderfully, and has settled into his new family's routine. He sleeps in his crate at nite, and doesn't even whine a bit. He is bonding with everyone in the family, and is having a ball in his new big yard. His activity level is high, as you can imagine with 3 kids in the home. So, i guess foster daddy can uncross his feet, toes, eyes and everything else :o))), Harley is home. Congratulations!! We will all wait for his one month update to hear abut his new adventures. Can't wait.

11/24/02 - Beemer man just left with his new family. He was up to his typical antics, jumping up on everyone, no manners at all. The 3 kids and the mom all have the welts to show their visit. We spend 2 hrs reviewing things, and I gave them some lessons on how to handle him until he is enrolled into obedience training...which he really needs.
Lets wish Beemer a new and hopefully "obedient" life. He is a very good boy, and deserves that much!

11/23/02 - Beemer is pending adoption.

11/7/02 -  Ok, ok, I know I am really late with this update, and we have a lot to tell you. For starters, since his last update, Beemer has had 2 accidents in the house, and none in the last 5 days. Interestingly, the 2 accidents that he had were both on a pad that we keep on the tile floor so the dogs have something soft to lay on. So, I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe Beemer was trained to go on paper or something. Just a guess, but I did find that interesting. Anyway, he has come a VERY long way from when he 1st came in, and thought the floor was his own personal peeing ground. Beemer also got to go on 2 home visits for prospective adopting families. He, of course, was in his glory. (and he didn't have any accidents in their house, either :o)) He showed the families what true boxer spirit is, and was an instant hit. I even got to show off some of his obedience training I have been giving him at one of the home visits. At the second home visit, Beemer got to meet a cat, and I was not sure what to expect, as this cat was not a kitty, it was an adult (actually there were 2 cats, but he only came face to face with one of them. And ya know what, he was fine, he looked at it, and did not make any moves toward it like he wanted to hurt it or anything. He was excellent with everyone and everything he met, but that is no surprise here. Beemer also has a new friend here at the Wings & Halo Haven. Friends of ours were going to Australia for 3 weeks, and needed someone to watch their 8 month old boxer girl Zoey. Of course we told them she could stay with us. Well, Mr. Beemer could not be happier. He LOVES this girl, and I can tell you that she loves him. They are inseparable. They play for hours at a time. They do everything together. It is so nice to see how much these 2 have taken to each other, and at 8 months, Zoey girl has the energy to keep up with him. So, I think we are all caught up now. We have really fallen for this boy, and will miss him greatly, but knowing that he is going to a perfect home is what makes us know this is all worth it. The perfect home.....could that be yours??

10/27/02  - Mr. Love bug met a new friend today. Friends of ours came over with their 8 month old female, and of course we had to introduce our wonderful boy to her. And, with no surprise, he was wonderful with her. They just played and played. He really has that wonderful personality, and gets along with everyone and everything he meets. His house training is continuing to be PERFECT! No accidents at all, and quite frankly, I think he is at the point that I would be surprised if he had anymore. He understands why he goes out, and quickly takes care of his business. We do let him out frequently, and he does spend time in his crate, which he always keeps dry. He found a tennis ball today in the yard, and now he has something else to play with. He has been pawing at it and kicking it and then chasing if each time he goes out. He doesn't know how to catch it, as I have tossed it up in the air; he waits for it to hit the ground, then he gets it. He is really a playful guy, and a lot of fun to have around. I know you will see that when he is in your home. When will that be??

10/24/02 - It's bragging time at the Wings & Halo Haven. I'm a little ashamed to say it, but I had not taken little Beemer boy for a walk since he got here. Shame, shame on me. Well, i committed to myself that i was gonna take him, and, yes I did tonite. Well, he was WONDERFUL!!! He walked beautifully on the leash. Pulled just a bit at the beginning, and with a very light correction, he was great for the rest of the walk. In fact, he was sooo good, we took a full 45 minute walk. He was a pleasure. He is so alert, he looks around at everything. What a wonderful time I had, and so did he.

Brag # 2,(and I hope I don't jinx myself), Beemer has not had an accident in the house in 5 days!! I think he is finally getting the hang of this training. And when I do let him out, he does his business very quickly. I have noticed something else, he poops in almost the same location each time, how good is that? Again....what a good boy!!

He loves his cube toy, the one with food treats inside of it, that you have to knock around to get the treats out, and boy, has he figured that thing out. He knocks it all over the place, and gets rewarded for his efforts.

His appetite is wonderful. He eats all his food, empties the bowl in 5 minutes. Nothing finicky here. He loves his vanilla yogurt.

So, lets summarize this wonderful boy. He is a great dog, with lots of puppy energy. If you have another dog that needs a companion, Beemer is your boy. If your current dog needs another dog that can keep up with him/her, Beemer is your boy. If you are looking for your 1st dog, Beemer is a total love bug and will be a devoted companion. So, he is an all purpose boy, and your gonna love him. I know we do!!

10/21/02  - Beemer had a very exciting weekend. He got to go on his very 1st Boxer Angels Rescue home visit, for a prospective adopting family. Boy, did he have a ball. Of course, his buddy Rocky went with him. These 2 good boys showed off their usual boxer antics. They were "boxing", "jawing" and swiping at each other for almost the entire home visit. Both inside and outside. The family also just got a brand new 12 week old kitty. Beemer saw the kitty, but made no aggressive moves to it. The kitty really didn't feel like hanging out with the boxers, so she pretty much made herself scarce during the visit. He is doing better with the housetraining issues also. He has had only one accident in the last 4 days. That is a very nice improvement. This boy has tons of energy, but is sweet as could be. If you want a loving, fun boy still full of puppy energy, he's right here waiting. Don't make him wait any longer, he's ready!!

10/15/02  - Mr. Beemer boy is learning some new things. He knows his "sit" very well now. We get him to sit before his food bowl is put down, and before he gets treats. We don't even need to give him the command, he just does it. While we are mixing his yogurt into his food, he waits very patiently, in the sit position. Oh, BTW, we have cut him down to 4 cups daily, split into 2 feedings. Last nite we started working on "paw", and already today he did it 4 times. What a good boy!! He seems to pick things up pretty quickly, for a treat that is. He is very treat driven. Next is "stay", which he is starting to hear. We have one of those square block toys, the ones that you put food into the middle of the cube, and the dogs can try to get the food to "spill out" by knocking it around. He really likes that toy. Keeps him busy for at least 1 hr at a time.

He is still having accidents downstairs. I think from the looks of it, he knows better, but he is ALWAYS playing, and hasn't figured out yet how to tell us he needs to go out. He is bouncing all over the place, and then all of a sudden it starts to come out, and he can't stop it. We'll continue to work on it. When we do let him out, he does all his business quickly, so he does understand.

My opinion of this boy has not changed one bit, he is total love machine, and the family that gets him is getting one super, playful boxer boy!!

10/12/02 - Mr. Beemer boy is home from his neuter, and he is doing super. I really missed him, as he stayed overnite last nite. I asked the vet if I could take him home the day of his neuter, but he said they like to observe them overnite, so he stayed. Could you imagine, I have 4 dogs, and I really missed this guy? He is really a very special boy.

My youngest daughter (17 yr old) came home from college for a short stay (lucky me :o)) and met Beemer for the 1st time. And in typical Beemer fashion, Mr. Love machine was into his kissing and hugging routine. She, of course, fell in love with him, and asked if we could keep him. Well, after explaining that we are in no way keeping this guy, I finally gave up, and let her just be loved by him. He also was kissing her boyfriend (well, there is no accounting for taste, huh?).

He has been relaxing in his crate. For an energetic puppy, he does surprisingly well in the crate. He settles down and just relaxes when he is in there. No barking, just an occasional cry when others are down there, but considering the many dogs I have fostered, he is really one of the best in the crate.

So, Beemer is all set and ready for his forever home. Boy, someone is gonna be a really lucky recipient of this very special young man. I hope it is you!!

10/9/02 - Mr. Beemer boy is just having the time of his life here at the Wings and Halo Haven. The only way to describe this boy is 100% LOVE BUG!! Nothing makes him happier then to be able to give hugs and kisses. Rocky has gotten a second wind, and now he and Beemer are “boxing” for hours at a time, only stopping for a quick “nap”, then right back to it. This Beemer boy has a disposition that cannot be beat…. trust me!!

We went to the vet tonight for a pre neuter check, and everyone just loved this boy. When I told them he was a rescue boy, they all wanted to adopt him right there. They were soooo disappointed when I explained that that is not how it works. Beemer was in his glory though. You would think this boy is loved starved or something. When the receptionist came around the counter and got down on her knees, Beemer quickly got both paws up on her shoulders and was kissing away, with his stub going a mile a minute. He would still be kissing her if I didn’t pull him back. He did gain 2 lbs since the last vet visit, and he is now eating 6 cups a day, split into 2 feedings, with the yogurt and American cheese mixed in. The vet told me we could leave him there tonight, and he would get neutered 1st thing in the morning, but I said “no way”, I would miss him too much. So, I will bring him back at 8am on Thursday morning for the neuter.

Beemer has had more peeing accidents over the last few days. I am letting him outside frequently, but he still just goes when he wants. We are going to keep working on the training, but we will keep him downstairs on the tile floor until we work thru this. He has kept his crate dry, just has accidents when he is out of the crate.

So, Beemer boy has shown that he is an exceptional dog, and with that training, he will be the PERFECT dog. Hope your app’s are in, cause it won’t be long now before he is ready for that forever home. Sure hope it’s yours!!

10/6/02 First things first, little Beemer boy’s test for Heart worm and Fecal came back negative, so on to the next step, neuter, and he is all done.

This boy’s personality is really shining, and it is a great one!! He just loves everyone and everything he comes in contact with. He just came in from his morning romp in the yard, and he is soooo cute. He is pretty funny out there. He runs a few steps, then leaps like a Gazelle, runs a few more steps, then leaps again. Like I said, soooo cute. His energy level is very typical for a boy his age. In fact, my 2 ½ yr old Rocky boy, one who has worn out previous fosters, need a break form him, as Beemer is just too much for him. He just wants to play and play. He runs around Rocky, bumps into him, leaps over him, and Rocky gives me that look like “is it someone else’s turn yet…..PLEASE  daddy :o))))” We then relieve Rocky with little dominatrix Shotzie girl. Shotzie is my little 42 lb boxer girl, who takes nothing from any dog. But she has developed an affection for this cutie. Whenever he gets too active for her, she gets loud with him, swipes at him, gets her paws up on his back, and Beemer knows its time to calm down a bit. Then, third shift, big Chancy man, my 100  lbs boxer takes over. By then, Beemer has sufficiently slowed down to where Chance can do what he likes most, just hang out with him.

His appetite has definitely improved. He is now eating 2x daily, once in the morning,  he gets 3 cups, and one at night, he eats 2 ½ cups. We are mixing it with vanilla yogurt and American cheese, which he seems to love. He looks great, and is starting to fill out a bit more.

His training is progressing. I have not been home a lot to give him lots of work, but he has learned “sit” nicely. We are now working on “paw”. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, he finally barked, so at least we know that that works. He thought he saw something thru the back door, so he barked at it. He has also not had any accidents out of the crate for 2 days, although he did wet his crate the other nite.

So, Beemer’s stay has been great so far. He is the kind of dog that will do great in most all situations. He does fine in the crate for extended periods, does not bark (he does whimper and cry at times in the crate if you are down with him and not letting him out), he loves other dogs (have not seen him with cats, as we don’t have any), great with everyone he meets for the very 1st time. He needs someone with patience to train him, as he will wear you out with his unbridled puppy energy. So, whether you are looking for your very 1stt boxer, or looking to add another as a friend to your current 4-legged crew, I have your boy right here. Get those apps in ASAP, you wont be sorry!!!

10/3/02 - Where do we begin with our little Beemer boy? He has been a super addition to the Wings and Halo  Heaven. This boy is sooo sweet, it is amazing that no one came to claim the little love bug at the shelter. , I can guarantee that you can’t find a sweeter disposition on a dog He has no issues. He loves everyone and everything. He has lots of puppy energy, and will definitely need training. He does like to jump on you, and we are trying to work on that with him. Heck, in one day, we have taught him “sit”. Well, ok, you will need a treat to get him to do it, but that still counts as learning something, right?:o)))

He does well in the crate, does not bark, but does whimper for a bit. In fact, now that I think about it, I don’t think he has barked yet. He is getting along with the 3 boxers here, does not try to dominate or anything. As an un- neutered male, it is surprising that he does not hump any of the other dogs, he just wants to hang with them, and play. We are keeping him downstairs for now, as he has had a couple of accidents. I don’t believe they are marking accidents, I just don’t think he has had great house training. He does sleep thru the entire night and keeps his crate dry, but once in a while, he will just squat and let out some pee. I will catch him, and tell him “no”, bring him outside, and praise him when he finishes outside, so we will continue to work on that.

He went to the vet for his heartworm and fecal test, which we will know the results tomorrow. He was excellent at the vet. He checked him over well, looked into his mouth, put her had in, and commented that this “is a super boy, great disposition”. We thank you Dr. T, I know that already :o))) He weighed in at 53 lbs. I was a bit surprised, as I thought he weighed less then that. He is only eating once a day, about 3 cups, although we are trying to get him to eat more, and more often.

Beemer is set for his neuter on Wednesday, and then he should be all ready to go to his forever home. This guy will be a great addition to a family that will show him the patience and training he has not received in his young life. In return for that, he will just love unconditionally, and be your dedicated companion, and love bug!!! Are you ready for that kind of commitment??

10/1/02 - Beemer is now officially a  BAR dog.  What a sweet boy he is.  He came out of a LI shelter. He is no more then 18 months, maybe less.  A brindle boy, with a splash of white on his chest.  What a beautifully sweet personality.  He was pretty scared coming out of the shelter, all shaking all over.  Within 5 minutes of reassuring, he was all happy and tail going a mile a minute.

Intro with Rocky outside was super, as expected.  He is not neutered, but there were no issues.  All the dogs have sniffed him thru the crate, and he is totally fine with it.  He is also a love bug, loves to give lots of kisses.

He is a little skinny, but pasta is gonna be on the menu for awhile.  You know they don't stay skinny with me for long.

More updates later.
