Pertinent Information
8/1/04 - Sorry I have not written in our computer
was down for awhile and then I lost track of time. Anyway.... I can't
believe she has been part of our family for a year already, it feels as
if she has been her always. She is a very special girl and is the magic
piece to our puzzle. Maggie is an exceptional dog and I have proud to
have her. She runs and plays, oh boy can she run! You might think having
three legs would be maybe just a little bit difficult, no not for
Maggie. She is great to play with but even better to snuggle with!
Thanks BAR.
10/1/03 - It has been one month and it sure has been a wonderful one. Maggie is doing fabulous! She is healing beautifully and acts like she has always lived here. She gets along great with my other dogs and the cats. I am glad she is part of our family now, we are even better now because she brings us so much joy and happiness daily. Thank you BAR!!!!! The Charron's 9/1/03 - I thought I would let you know how very well Maggie is adjusting. I just love her to pieces. The cats are already excepting her and my dogs well Maggie had a drink and then cleaned Molly's whole face. Thank you so much! She adds much joy and love to our home. Thanks again, Cece 8/30/03 - Maggie Mae has gone to her forever home and what a wonderful home she will have. I am not sure who is luckier Maggie or her new family, but if I had my pick it would be the family. Maggie is such a sweet girl and she fit right in with Cecile, Mike and Riley as well as getting along (so far with their 2 dogs). Maggie is very intense with watching the 2 cats, but I know she will be fine with them once they all get used to each other.
Because I am moving and will be unable to continue
fostering for the time being, I really wanted to see Maggie in her
forever home before I left. I am so very happy to see her in a
home where she will be loved as she deserves and be able to give the
love she has ready for her new family. This parting was both happy
and sad for me. I will miss her, but am thrilled that she has
finally gone home. Debbie
8/26/03 - Hi, it's me, Maggie, just checking in. I have to let you know that I am back at the vet's for another stay due to my incision wound. I have opened it up twice, so they feel it is better for me to stay here until it is pretty well healed. I just want to go home to see everyone. I know that I am being kept here for my own good and for my foster mom's sanity (I did a good job of driving her nuts lol), but she loves me anyway. I get along with other dogs and cats (I even talk to the picture of the cat the vet has on the wall). I love sleeping on the couch or any other soft place (foster mom has a pillow just for me). I really don't like the crate, but I will suffer and go in without too much trouble. I'm just waiting for my forever home because I want a family of my own to love (I give lots of boxer kisses and wiggles). 8/18/03 - Maggie is home from her surgery and settling in very well. She had a sponge bath tonight, poor baby was still covered with dry blood and prickly fur from being at the vet's. She is so sweet and just stood there letting me wash her down and clean her up. There is a little nursing to be done at the moment, but I think this time she will recover well and much sooner than with the last surgery. She has lost some of the weight she had put on, but I'm sure that she will gain it all back and more very soon. She is really doing well and walking at a very brisk rate when I take her out. I am trying to keep her quiet for the next few weeks to give her a chance to heal and recover fully. This girl is so special that anyone who adopts her will be very, very lucky. I hope there is someone out there who will adopt her soon because she sure deserves a forever home. 8/15/03 - Today was a difficult day. I had to
bring Maggie in to have her left hind leg amputated. The surgery that we
did to repair the earlier damage to her leg just plain refused to heal and
the infection that set in just would not respond to the multiple attempts
of antibiotic therapy. 8/11/03 - Hi it's me, Maggie. Thought you might all like to hear from me, so I popped onto the computer to just let you know I am looking for my very own family. One of the things I really like to do is cuddle, rest my head in your lap while you stroke my ears and face, mmmmm, I really love that a lot. I am so loving, I'm willing to follow you everywhere around the house. I'm good in my crate, but I would really love a home where I don't always have to be in one, I used to spend all my time in it and I would very much like to not do that ever again. Right now, my left leg is healing from surgery to fix an old fracture, and I have to do physical therapy and need to be reminded to work my leg normal again, and I'm trying, but...well, I'll get there, and maybe my forever family would help me do that? I hope so. My foster Mom says I am "exceptionally good about my leg excersizes and my hot compresses." I am a very good patient, because I really want to impress my forever family. Well it is time for my nap so, I'll have to write more at a later time. Love Maggie 8/7/03 - Just wanted to give you everyone a smile today by sharing Maggie's new trick. This morning as I was stumbling my way through the animals, trying to get the food and coffee ready, Maggie decided to let me know she had to go out. She is still on her leash 24/7, so she just picked the leash up in her mouth and started dancing all over the place. The look on her face - "Mom, I HAVE TO GO OUT NOW! Never mind the food and coffee" was priceless. What a sweet girl she is!!! Someone is going to be very lucky to have this girl as their pet. 8/6/03 - Just wanted to let everyone know that I am doing better everyday. I am still on oral antibiotics because of the sore on my leg, but my foster mom and Aunt Nancy came up with a great idea to get me out of that cone collar. They are trying a soft neck brace to see if it will keep me from licking my leg (I hope I'm good enough so I don't have to go back into the cone). During Aunt Nancy's visit, she was quite impressed that I am getting along well with the regulars at the home here, including Skylar, the cat. We all just kind of lie around Mom Debbie. I may take a while to warm up to the other animals, but I get there eventually. Sometimes I am gated off in the kitchen, but I have a nice comfy pillow to lay on so it's not too bad. I just like being in the middle of everything. I have been really good with exercising my leg when I am reminded. Today I even walked all over the yard using my leg. On Friday I will be going back to see Dr. Love to see why I still have a spot on my leg that continues to ooze. I can hope for good news and that it will finally be fixed. The exercises and the walks are helping me remember I have another leg, but it's so much easier to walk on 3 legs. But Mom Debbie just won't let me be lazy, she's even reminding me in the house to use my leg. Nag, nag, nag, but boy am I loving it. I really like a lot of attention and am just hoping that my forever family is out there looking for me. Oh, by the way, wait until you see the new pictures of me that will be coming shortly. I am finally starting to look like I've gained some weight. Aunt Nancy is going to take pictures while I visit her next week. I can't wait to show off. 7/30/03 - Hi Everyone, I have been home for a little over a week now and am doing better every day. I am actually gaining a little bit of weight and am using my leg on a limited basis. My foster mom has to remind me when we walk and then I try to please her and actually walk on it. Her cat, Skylar, is getting a little daring coming into the kitchen where I am kept (so I don't get to active while I am recooperating) just to see how I will react. Well, I try to be on my best behavior and just watch her walk by. I still have some oozing from my incision, but I am able to bend my knee a little bit more. I just want to say how happy I am here, but am still hoping for my forever home soon. I have a lot of love to give and am just looking for some one to lavish it on. 7/23/03 - Maggie came home from the vet's yesterday. She is doing much better and is on a course of antibiotics to finish clearing up the infection in her leg. For the next few weeks, she needs warm compresses and physical therapy to encourage mobility in the knee. She has gone so long without using that leg, that it has become second nature for her to walk on three legs. Maggie is taking a few steps on the leg and the more mobility, the more she will use it. Peanut butter is doing the trick for taking the pills twice a day. She was overjoyed to get out of the vet's and home. She even remembered the car and went right to it. Maggie is such a sweet dog. Whoever decides to adopt her will get one wonderful dog. She just wants someone to settle in with and love. Maggie just has so much heart and love to give. 7/22/03 - Good News, Maggie will be coming home from the vet's today. The infection at the surgery site is clearing slowly. Although it has not stopped oozing completely, it is better and no more fever. Xrays were done yesterday and so far, the bone is not showing any infection. We are keeping our fingers crossed and saying prayers that the surgery will be completely successful. I can't wait to get her home. There will be physical therapy work with her to help her start using the leg again. Since Maggie has adapted so well to not using that leg, that it will take a little work to get her to use it again. Once she gets home, it will be time to add some weight to her, she is still so very thin. My visits with her have been full of boxer kisses and nubby wiggles. She is such a sweet dog. 7/14/03 - It has been a very long week as I have ended up back at the vet's with a very bad infection after surgery. Although my foster mom has tried to do what she can, it just wasn't enough. I have been (and still am) on intravenous antibiotics to clear up the infection. We are keeping our toes crossed that the infection will clear up and everything will get back on track. I miss being at my foster home, but my foster mom comes to see me every day. Things are improving a little and I started putting a little weight on my foot today. The doctor wants me to start using my leg, but I'm not hurrying it. The fever has finally gone, so maybe I am on the mend and things will start to look up. I really want to get home. We are all working as hard as we can to get the leg better, but right now only time will tell. 7/5/03 - Hi Everyone, Just wanted to let you know that I made it through surgery (4 hours) just fine. My leg has undergone reconstruction and is in a cast. The cast will remain for 10 days and then my foster mom, Debbie, will start physical therapy to help my muscles get back in condition. I miss not being in my foster home, but everyone at the vet hospital have been great. I will be going home on Monday and must be kept quiet for 2 months at the least (Good Luck!!) I am looking forward to getting better and finding my forever home. 7/2/03 - Hi Everyone, Maggie Mae here. I love my foster home and am starting to settle in. I don't like being kept in the crate much but sometimes I just have to stay there. I have been to the vet's twice and my heartworm and fecal tests came back negative. Hooray! Now for the tough news, my leg is not doing too good. We found out that I have an old break that did not heal properly so my leg bends where it shouldn't. The good news is that there will be surgery to correct the problem. I just don't know where the decision is reconstruction surgery or amputation. My foster mom is going to keep me either way. If I have reconstruction, I will have to be kept quiet for 2-4 months. We will know in 2 months where it is taking. I am anxious to find out the decision so I will know what is going to happen. Either way, I am getting more frisky by the day. I am still learning how to get along with the other dogs here and they are trying to learn how to get along with me. I wanta to be in the middle of everything and don't like being separated. I'll let you know what is happening as soon as I know. Thank you Boxer Angels Rescue for giving me a chance at a wonderful new life. 6/24/03 - Maggie is adjusting very well. She is eating everything put in front of her and has learned to eat when the food is put down. She is getting along very well with both Gibby, 9 yo Australian Shepherd and Bonnie, 13 yo Shih Tsu. There is still an adjustment going on with Skylar, 3 yo cat. Maggie is very friendly and loving. She has made herself comfortable on the sofa. She really does not like being placed in the kennel at night or while I am at work, but she doesn't give a hard time. Although she has a bum rear leg, she gets around just fine. She really is a warm, loving boxer with lots of boxer kisses and a heart of gold.
6/21/03 - Just wanted to let you know that Maggie
Mae reached her foster home this afternoon thanks to Betsy. She is
adjusting very well and has had a bath to refresh her from her long
trip.
She is very thin but has eaten and is drinking well.
She is very good with other dogs and at the moment sleeping in the
living room not far from Gibby (my Australian Shepherd) and Bonnie (my
Shih Tsu). So far Skylar (my cat) and she are not in the same
company. We will have to see how that goes as the days go by.
Maggie Mae is very friendly, warm-hearted and beginning
to give boxer kisses and wagging tail. She also likes to make
herself at home on the sofa.

From Nancy -
Director of Foster Care - I would like to say thank you to Gary, Liz,
Michele and Betsy for driving today to bring Maggie and Ebony to CT to
their foster homes. They arrived safe and sound.
From Gary - Director of Finance and transporter -
I would also like to add how well they went. I was in continuous contact
with Michelle, and we both arrived in Darien at almost the same time.
Michelle, it was a pleasure to meet you. I also
understand that this was your 1st transport......feel good tonight??,
I'll bet you do. Michelle was well prepared for her 2 guests.
So, we had a very successful day, getting 2 boxers out of
one of the tougher shelters.
Again, a very nice day for the transport team. Thank you all for your dedication!! From Liz - Transport Coordinator - An even bigger thank you to Gary and Michele who split my leg so I did not have to drive. Thanks again From Michele - Well I was a nervous wreck the
night before and the day of the transport. I rarely, and I mean
rarely, ever go anywhere by myself. I was driving quite far
- alone - and in the rain! I was familiar with my pick-up point,
but had never driven to my drop-off point before. Due to my
nervous energy all Saturday morning, while waiting for Gary's call to
signal me when to leave, I got lots of housework done!! So my
house isn't as cluttered and a mess as it used to be (perfect time for
my home check to get done to be a foster! LOL!). On my way to meet
Gary, my stomach was in knots, I was almost on the verge of tears due to
anxiety and just plain old nervous!!!! But Gary and I met up just
fine and the girls (Maggie & Ebony) were just adorable! And I
came to the realization that I AM
