10/17/03 - Hi All,  The wonderful news about Mikey going to his Forever Home reminded us that we should be sending a little info on Maxine and Caesar.
They are both doing great here on the mountain.  They each have very different personalities.  Maxine is more of a "lady's dog"  and more standoffish than Caesar.  She's doing very good with the whole rest of the crew now.  In the beginning it was a little touch-and-go.  Maxine is very affectionate when she feels like it.
We really think she would enjoy "snacking on" one of our cats but so far she's holding off.  Maxine came to us with a hematoma in her right ear......which she's had for years.......and it's never been cleaned.  So now we clean it every three days and Maxie just loves it!!  She likes having her nails cut and LOVES to go for rides in the car.  And she is excellent off leash.....she runs like the wind at the field when we walk all three Boxers.  To see Maxie run.....you'd never believe she's as old as she's supposed to be!
Now for Caesar.  Caesar was returned to rescue to be adopted out again but we just fell in love with him again.......the same as when we fostered him and had to let him go to his Forever Home before!!  Caesar came back into rescue twenty five pounds heavier than when he left.  We're working on that.  He absolutely loves everybody....both human and animal.  So far we've seen no problems from the surgeries Caesar has had......Although the scar from the mass cell tumor on his front leg still seems to be a little touchy.  But this big boy really enjoys getting out there and running with Cosmo and Maxie!!  Seems like Caesar and James are "joined at the hip"!!!!  Can't move two feet and he moves with me.....no matter what!!  Tonight Caesar and James start  classes to get Caesar ready for testing to be a registered Therapy Dog.
Our trainer feels he's older......more like six or seven.  So both Maxine and Caesar are older, graying dogs who are absolutely wonderful!!  They came to us not needing to be taught anything.
There's so much to be said for older dogs.  James and Diana

8/18/03 - Hi All, Well Maxine has been with us for six days. What a perfect little lady!! We are so glad to have her!! She fit in with our crew like she's lived her all her life. It's amazing!! Although she would like to inspect the cats a little closer.
James had Maxine to the vet today for a few little things we wanted to have
checked out. She gave everybody and every animal in the office a "little
WOOF"! It was really funny. We got some excellent news!! Maxine had been diagnosed with an arythmia of her heart.....and no matter how hard he tried..our vet could not find it.
She does know all her commands.......but she also has "SELECTIVE HEARING"......so naturally she doesn't always do what she's asked to do. We plan to take her in for a "tune-up" on those commands.
James and Diana

8/13/03 - Maxine has been adopted.

8/6/03 - Sorry I haven't written in such a long time. I guess I got lazy and didn't think anyone was reading my update. Life is just great here at Seaside Boxer Haven. I'm living with four other furkids and one skinkid. They must really love furkids. I get to sleep in bed right up against my mom. I have the best spot. Grandma and grandpa are visiting from Florida. They were so impressed with me that they said I could sleep with them. If they could they would take me home with them. They aren't allowed dogs where they live. Grandpa shares his breakfast with all of us every morning. He cuts up half the banana into small pieces for us. I just want to know how come we don't get cereal with that. I still love to go on wlks and play with all my toys. I also enjoy sleeping on the couch when everyone is watching TV. I always cuddle next to someone. I'm a great companion. So won't you please open your hearts and adopt me. Love, Maxine

8/5/03 - Here is a new picture of Maxine with the other dogs in her foster home.  She is such a good girl and gets along with other dogs very well.  If you are interested in adopting an older Boxer, we have some very good information available on the subject.  Click HERE to read what others who have adopted older Boxers have to say.

6/21/03 - Hi Everyone. Its HAPPY Maxine. I couldn't wait to write and tell you my exciting experiences. I am officially with all the resident dogs. Three of them. No leashes. Of course they all like me. I knew they would. One has a crush on me. He keeps kissing me. I didn't give him a kiss yet. Never kiss on the first day. Maybe tomorrow so he knows i like him too. Yesterday was my best day. Foster mom wasn't feeling well so she spent most of the day in bed. Guess who was in bed with her? ME and all the other dogs. Moose the resident boxer plays with me all the time. We tease each other and we both share the toys. I have so much spunk. When we're outside we run and play catch the toy. I can keep up with him for hours.
I'm so good that now I eat in the same room with the others. Its amazing we all eat from our own bowls and wait until everyone is finished. I learn the rules fast. Then we all go out together. The best part was last night. They let me upstairs to sleep and to my surprise I got to sleep in bed with foster mom and the mean looking bald foster dad who is the biggest mush) and two of the other dogs. All five of us in one big bed. Guess what else, I got to cuddle all night with mom. I didn't move until it was time to get up in the morning. What a life. This is just great. There is one thing missing-A forever home.
Love Happy Maxine

6/17/03 - Here I am again. I'm still at Seaside Boxer Haven. I've been playing with the resident boxer boy Moose. I think he's in love with me. He doesn't stop licking my ear. Foster mom keeps putting me in the run with moose. Shes hoping I'll learn to do my business there. I'm smart, I know if I wait she'll walk me and I love my walks. I think the other resident dogs are getting use to me. Fathers Day we had a BBQ and two of mom's Aunts bought me new toys. I had never met them before. They think I'm so sweet and loveable and their right. I sat and gave them my paw. I'm really a very good dog. All I need now is a Forever home. Won't you please give me a chance.

6/5/03 - Hi Everyone its Maxine. I'm still at Seaside Boxer haven. Can't understand why I don't have a forever home yet. Foster mom tells me to be patient. I've read all the foster updates (OK mom read them to me) and I'm the best. I'm cute, adorable, beautiful, housebroken, and a perfect lady. I like to take walks, play ball, sit on your lap and kiss you. I play fetch & hide and go seek. Mom hides and I always find her. She always hides behind the couch. Maybe someone should tell her to try hiding in a different spot. I don't know how to hide, but maybe my forever home could teach me.
I got a new bone yesterday because one of the visiting dogs took all mine and didn't want to share with me. Tonight for dinner we had chicken cutlet with our food. Wanted seconds but mom said no. Was that good.
If it stops raining maybe I can go outside and play catch with my foster dad. He loves to play with me. He says I'm very gentle. Ladies are suppose to be gentle. I love my foster mom and dad but I have so much more love to give to my forever home.  Please give me that chance. Love & Kisses, Maxine also know as Maxie

5/28/03 - Its Maxine again. Foster mom says I need to update my file. She says people need to know what a wonderful dog I am. I'm really no bother at all. I give plenty of love and love to give those wet boxer kisses. I'm well trained and don;t have any accidents. Mom calls me her angel. I love to play but I also like being a couch potato. I now sleep on the couch. It feels great. I think I'm being spoiled. This morning I had brisket of beef in my meal. Was that good. Foster dad now thinks I'm wonderful. When he comes in to see me I don't bark at him anymore. I give him that wiggle and he gives me plenty of attention. Sunday we played catch the ball. I didn't do that good but dad kept trying. I finally won him over, or maybe he finally won me over. We are watching two other dogs. Henri is only 6 months and 70lbs. He doesn't seem to understand that I don't want to share the bone thats in my mouth. He could have any other bone, but always wants mine. I never get mad at him I just walk away. Seaside Boxer Haven is pretty good but I'm sure having a forever home would be better so please put you applications in I'm waiting to go home with you.

5/19/03 - Hi Everyone, My foster mom went to a meet and greet on Saturday and didn't take me. I was upset. I know a lot of other foster parents brought their foster dogs. She said she couldn't because she had to bring my foster sister Sasha home. The youngest always gets everything. Mom tried to make it up to me. She took me to Petco and said I could have any bone I wanted. I licked about 20 bones but didn't pick any. Foster mom bought my favorite BIL-JAC LIVER TREATS. Today was warm so our walks were a little shorter. I'm till being a good girl. I'm a perfect lady. I walk slow, don't pull and stop when told to. Yesterday I was so proud of myself. My foster dad, you remember the mean looking bald guy, came in and I didn't bark at him. I let him pet me. He wouldn't let me kiss him. He said he doesn't like dog kisses. He doesn't know what he's missing. I kissed my foster mom instead. She says she'll take all the kisses she can get. I've been at Seaside Boxer Haven for almost two weeks now and I really love it here, but I need a forever home. Please put in your applications. Remember my name is Maxine and I'm the cute one.

5/12/03 - Hi Everyone its Maxie again. I've been at my new foster home for five days now.  Its been wonderful.  My temporary foster sister Sasha left yesterday for a new foster home. I think I miss her. Mom is still taking me on long walks. I'm not sure if she thinks shes helping me stay in shape or herself. I know I'm in good shape. Don't tell her I said that.  i do enjoy the walks. I just like being with people. I get to meet my foster moms friends.  She shows me off to everyone.  I just sit there like a good girl. Sometimes I get to kiss them. A few of them give me hugs. I went to the vet and he said I was in good heath. I wasn't even scared of him.  My foster dad well thats another story. Hes big and hes bald and was wearing a hat and I got a little scared so I barked at him.  We are working on that because I'm told hes really a big mush.I'm going to start meeting the rest of the fur kids today. Three of them. One of them looks really big. If we all get along I can hang out with the whole family. I'm a real sweetie, so if your looking for a dog that will give you all the love she can its me. Please put your application in as I really need a forever home.

5/9/03 - Hi everyone, My name is Maxine. My foster mom calls me Maxie.  I am quiet, gentle and sweet. I love to give boxer kisses. I sit on my dog bed with my foster mom and we kiss each other. Then she gives me lots of hugs. Mom tried to get me on the couch but I wouldn't go. I think that's a NO No. We go for long walks everyday and I walk like a lady. I sit when told and will give you my paw if you ask me. My foster mom says she loves me but I still need a forever home to love me.
