DEAR BRUCE AND BARBARA,

WHEN WE GOT HOME THE OTHER DOGS WENT CRAZY!!  MUGGS JUMPED AND WIGGLED AND SNORTED AND DANCED AROUND THE LIVING ROOM!!  THEY ALL WENT OUT IN THE YARD AND RAN AROUND AND AROUND. THEN MUGGS WENT OVER TO THE FENCE TO LOOK OUT INTO THE DRIVEWAY FOR THE NEIGHBORS CAT. HE HAD A GOOD DINNER AND SLEPT IN MY LAP UNTIL THE LAST TRIP OUT FOR THE NIGHT.

WHEN WE WENT UP TO BED HE WENT OVER TO ALEXIS SNIFFED HER AND LICKED HER FACE BEFORE GOING TO HIS OWN BED. HE WAS ASLEEP BEFORE THE LIGHTS WERE OUT, AND YES, AT ABOUT 5:00 AM HE CLIMBED ONTO MY SIDE OF THE BED WHERE HE CURLED UP AT MY SIDE. IT FELT GREAT TO HAVE HIM BACK AGAIN.

MOST OF THE FAMILY HAS COME TO VISIT AND SAY "WELCOME HOME". HE IS BACK TO BEING THE GUARD DOG FOR THE HOUSEHOLD AGAIN, BARKING AT HIS REFLECTION IN THE GLASS AND ALMOST ANYTHING HE HEARS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.  WE HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH HIS VET THIS WEEK, JUST TO UPDATE HIM ON HIS MEDICAL TREATMENTS, TRAVELS AND ADVENTURES.

I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THE WONDERFUL CARE YOU GAVE OUR MUGGS.  YOU TRULY ARE BOXER ANGELS!!!!!        CECELIA

9/27/03 - What a great day!  Mugg's family drove from NY to CT to pick up their long lost Muggs.  It was a great reunion and there wasn't a dry eye!  Sad Moe did the kidney bean dance when he saw his Mom and turned into happy "found" Muggs.

9/22/03 - This story is one of those warm, mushy stories that will give us all an inner warmth that will make you pause and reflect.

Those who follow our site have seen many new dogs come and go, week after week. Some are in good shape, some not so good shape. Moe was at a Long Island shelter for 1 week at the end of August, and a kennel worker called us to alert us that there was a VERY skinny boy who was running out of time. This shelter does not work with rescue very often, and did not even think of calling us on this boy, even after no one showed any interest in him.
So we get poor skinny Moe in the nick of time, and into BAR he comes.
Now, there is a family that lost their beloved boxer back in June, and looked and looked for him. He had bolted out the front door unexpectedly, and they quickly followed. They got in the car and looked and looked, but he turned the corner and seem to vanish. They visited many shelters, but to no avail. and after a month or so, they had given up hope of finding their baby. The began looking at rescue websites, looking at different breeds, but coming back to boxers.
Well, you have probably figured this out by now....they go to the BAR website looking for a boxer and lo and behold...there is their Muggs (our Moe) looking right at them, with that goofy tongue sticking out at them. Every one us can imagine how they felt. I know we all can.....they call the 800#, tell us we have their dog...they email pics of their Muggs...and yes, it is a perfect match.
They will be calling the foster home to pick him up. They just cannot believe their luck. They had given up hope, and considering the shape poor Muggs was in, it was good that the shelter animal control finally snagged him. He could not have survived much longer out on the street. This family read off a laundry list of operations an surgical scars that poor Muggs has had to endure during the 7 yrs they owned him. They obviously love him very much.
This is just wonderful news for all concerned, and Muggs will be back with the only family he has ever know and loved very shortly, and BAR played the biggest part in this match.  This is what rescue is all about!!

9/22/03 - Hey everyone Moe here. Foster mom wanted me to tell you about my first week with them. I have had a lot of fun. I started out real timid like but now she says I have my bounce back. I am still shy when I first meet someone new, especially guys. I warm up to people, even guys, real quickly though. So it's not an issue really. I especially love to hang out with kids. Foster mom took me to the vet on Friday cuz I was feeling hot to her and my belly looked funny. The vet was a real nice lady and she said its nothing to worry about, just a skin yeast infection and an ear infection just getting started. She gave foster dad some medicine for me and I should be fine in 10d. Now I get to eat cream cheese balls 2x a day, foster mom puts my medicine in it but she doesn't think I know that. Don't tell her I know, ok? Guess what? The vet said I was built good and I am not too skinny OR too fat. She called me a handsome young man! How bout' that! Moe-man still has it with the ladies even though they say I am fixed now. She said I'm cute with my "snaggle tooth grin" and all.
Anyway, lets see... what else should I fill you in on? Oh yea, when we go on walks to the lake I walk right by a bunch of noisy dogs in their yards and just ignore them. I walk real good on a leash, too. I do bark and growl at all the dogs and their people when they walk past my house. A dog has to protect his territory you know, that's what my biological mom taught her pups a long time ago in NY.
I did get my foster parents upset with me on Saturday but it wasn't totally my fault. You see I saw one of their resident furballs walking in the yard, she tried to sneak past me you know. Well I caught sight of her and and that was it. I chased that furball all over the backyard whining at her to slow down! She got away under the deck but boy was that fun. My foster parents were not too happy with me and scolded me for chasing Holly. What's a boy to do, huh? It was her fault she walked past me and every kitty and dog knows the rules. Dogs chase cats that is how it is those are the rules and that furball should know that. What did she expect of me? Foster mom says I have to learn to let her walk by me and NOT chase her. We'll see...I'll try.
I also got to go to a park on Saturday and visit other dogs. I did not bother any of them...except one. ok here it is straight out. This big ole'lug of a Lab came up behind me while I was sitting with foster mom watching other dogs run thru a tire and jump fences, they called it agility. Anyway, this guy comes running up from behind me so I turned on him and growled real loud. He made me mad just surprising me like that. So the rest of the day I growled at any dog that came up to me to say hi. Foster mom says I should not do that but I did anyway. I licked her face and told her I was sorry when we were leaving the park.
I did meet a family member's Beagle yesterday and we got along fine. She was loose cuz it was her house but I was fine with her and I was leashed. She is smaller than me and not aggressive and Foster mom thinks that might be why I was fine, wagging my tail and all with her.
Did you check out my picture with my new bandana? Foster mom and dad made that for me and I feel so special in it. I get them laughing at me cuz I prance around in it wiggling my butt. They made it special for the doggie event we went to on Saturday. Maybe that's why that big lug of a Lab ran up to me, he was jealous of my new bandana. Ya think?
Anyway foster mom says I need to sign off now. She says I need to learn how to give you guys a reader's digest version of my stories. One question, What's a reader's digest?
Oh well, bye for now. Hey don't forget>> I'm ready for my forever family. How can you resist my cute snaggle tooth face?

9/16/03 - Moe is now living at our foster home in eastern CT where he loves being an only child. He does not seem to mind other dogs barking at him from their yards when we are out on our walks. We think he just wanted a place where he could adjust to being a house pet at first w/o competing with the big dogs for food and attention.
He is such a love and would make anyone a great pet! We think especially for a single parent or maybe a less active couple or family of working adults like ours is. We say that because he is a very mellow boy. Loves to just sit by you and cuddle. So if you don't want the high energy of a Boxer puppy/adolescent then Moe is your man. He is very quiet and did not bark at the door when my sister came to meet him his first night here. He just looked up from his bed as if to say, "hey foster mom someone is coming in, better go see about that."
Our 2 resident kitties has made themselves scarce since Moe arrived. The first time he saw them he wanted to play! he got down in the play position, butt up front end down, wagging his tail vigorously and whining. He was saying "come on guys let's play". Kitties response was to puff up real big and stand there staring at him and growling! That did not faze Moe man he kept wagging and whining saying "come on guys I'm not that big lets romp"! Kitties wanted no part of that and eventually just ran away and hid again!
Oh well...hey do you have a home with some kitties who will make friends with Moe? Or maybe no kitties but... How about a home with some lovin' left to give this one time stray. Could that be you?? He has the greatest face, tongue hanging out and everything, we love it. He's waiting for his forever family now and he is so gentle and quiet we know he won't be with us for too long that's for sure. So get your applications in for him ASAP. He's waiting with lots of love and cuddling to give his forever family.

9/14/03 - Our fist official guest has arrived at Bouncin' Boxer Lakeside Lodge !  Thank you to Robin for taking such good care of this lil' guy up til now and for volunteering to transport him this afternoon.  Thank you to Jenifer ( we are new volunteers as well, Jen) to James and to Betsy for helping get this boy here safely.  Thank you Nancy for offering him to us so quickly, after our home visit. Sorry again Betsy for telling you our shutters were maroon when they are actually green!  Oh well, our front door is maroon anyway..

As I write this Moe has settled in on the couch beside Bruce! He also had already gone right into our bedroom and hopped up on our bed!  He has not made eye contact with us yet and has not wagged his tail as of yet.  That will change quickly I am sure.  He did see our two furballs before they ran and hid and he paid them no attention.  That is good thing, maybe when they come out of hiding they will become friends.
Well my hubby and Moe have officially bonded I think as I just peeked in on them and Moe is curled up  with his head in Bruce's lap and both of them are sound asleep!  I hope they don't snore together too. Ha Ha!  Guess thats all ...too bad I don't have a camera for online as I'd love to send you all a picture of these two already sleeping together!   it's great!
More later from Bouncin' Boxers Lakeside LodgeBruce and Barb

9/10/03 - Moe has had two great days here at camp. He's accepting the resident pests more and more agreeably. We think he just wants all the attention for himself. Poor guy has had a rough life up to now, but we're sure that will change soon. He's eating like a champ and has gained at least 9#. He's starting to look like a real boxer. Moe loves his time with the skin folks here. He can cuddle with the best of them, gives kisses and is up for a short game of fetch whenever you are. He shows no interest at all in the cats. Mornings can find him napping in the sun spot in the kitchen or out on the deck. With the right environment this boy will only improve with time. He'd be a great companion for a working person as he is definitely low maintenance. All Moe wants is to be loved unconditionally. The assistance camp director has had a fun couple of days bringing this boy out of his shell and away from his street brawlin' days. PS: He is truly talented . . . he can lick his front foot and scratch his ear with his back foot at the same time! What more could you want from a pet? He's not loud and obnoxious, totally trustworthy in the house, walks great on the leash, loves to go for rides in the car . . . . heck, some people I know aren't this amenable.

9/4/03 - Mr. Moe is making up for lost time at the chow line. His appetite is wonderful, so I don't expect it will be long at all before he's up to weight. He's still got a bit of that playground mentality . . . but there's three very boisterous, active, not to mention a lot bigger boxers here. Who can blame poor Moe for being a bit defensive. After being on the lamb and having to fend for himself for who knows how long, it's no wonder this boy is uncertain of pretty much everything. His nasty cold seems to be getting a bit better each day, too. I think as time goes on and he realizes that he doesn't have to worry about where his next meal comes from or where he's going to sleep each night, this boy will soften his edges some. He's really a very low maintanance boy: feed him, let him out, a few toys, a nice soft bed and that's all Moe requires. If you're looking for a nice quiet companion, consider Moe. He really needs someone who will love him and let him love back.

take advantage of the lovely spa-like rehabilitation program. Apparently Moe was a stray in the "flight or fight" mode on Long Island before he was finally caught and taken to the shelter. From the looks of things, he's been surviving on not much more than air for some time. He has a nasty upper respiratory infection that he's being treated for as well. Mostly Moe likes to nap on the bed or couch. He doesn't feel much like socializing quite yet, no matter how hard the welcoming committee tries to include him in the festivities. This little boy is a sorry sight and despite his tough-guy demeanor, we're sure that there's a sweetheart just waiting to come out. All departments will be focusing on getting this little boy up to speed and on his way to his forever home over the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more updates on Moe.
