10/25/04 - To all of our friends at "BAR", So sorry we haven't written. Where do we begin? Next week it will be two years since adopting "Mia" (we changed her name - she didn't look like an Anabelle). I am certain that I speak for my entire family when I say we almost can't remember life without her - it feels like she has been part of our family forever. She is a better dog than we could have ever hoped for. No one has ever met a friendlier, more loving, sensitive, or kind animal. She has added so much to our family. Mia loves our children, Arianna and Nichloas, so much - she constantly covers their faces with kisses. She waits by the door at the same time each afternoon for the school bus. She chases them around the yard and even tries to climb onto their swingset - she thinks she's one of the kids.
Soon after Mia arrived, she began having stomach problems. She would vomit nearly every time she ate. Several trips and overnight stays at the vet later, she was diagnosed with Addisons disease. It is a disease of the adreanal system. Mia will be on medication for life. It is very expensive but we would have done anything to make and keep our Mia healthy. With her daily meds, the Addisons remains in check. One of the side effects of the medication is a voracious appetite - Mia would literally eat all day, every day. We have worked to keep her weight down through limiting her snacks to carrot sticks. Beacuse of her constant hunger, we need to make a conscious effort not to leave any food on counters, or leave closet doors open. We have lost a loaf of bread or two or three...She is so sweet and looks at you with these big eyes - it is impossible to get mad at her.
Mia has made us very happy. We have given her the best home possible. She is with people all day and never crated. She sleeps in our bed at night. We had an invisible fence installed to provide her with plenty of space to play. Mia loves to ride in the car. She is always happy, always ready to play, and makes each of us feel so good. We thank you very much for helping us find the perfect dog.

12/03/02 - One month already, how time flies when you have a Boxer!! Mia is doing great. She has settled in nicely. She is starting to put on some weight and looks good. Her personality is awesome! If she wants to be part of some things we do as a family, she will bark at us until we include her! Mia is now my third child.
We have never owned a Boxer before and we will never go without one again. She really is a love. She has this major attraction to my husband as does he to her! It is so cute how he carries her around like a lap dog and all she does is wash his face the whole time, to the point where he can't breathe! I guess that is true love!
That's all for now. Must go and tend to my girl, its time for a ride in the car. Thanks for everything BAR. You guys are wonderful. Keep up the hard work!

11/7/02 - We changed Annabelle's name to Mia. She is so sweet. My whole family can't get enough of her. She has so much love to offer with those juicy boxer kisses!!! She really is a great match for us. She is playful yet obedient. We will be starting obedience training soon.
The second night we had her she started to do this nasty sounding cough. She was up all night, it scared me, I was going to take her to the hospital but then she finally stopped. I took her to the vet the next day. They said she has kennel cough. They think she is having a reaction to her vaccine. She is now on an antibiotic and a cough suppressant. It breaks my heart to see her like this. She is still acting goofy though!!!
We do love her so much, she is awesome! She is exactly what we needed!
Dana was great to deal with. She was very helpful and informative. Thanks to all of you at BAR. Keep up the great work.

10/29/02 - Annabelle has been adopted.

10/27/02 - Annabelle is pending adoption

10/24/02 - Well, Ms. Annabelle continues to be such a great girl!   I must say, I was a bit surprised last night.  Here's what happened... while by boyfriend was fast asleep and me laying awake, I snuck downstairs to get her out of the crate (she's been sleeping with me when he hasn't been here).  Well, when I opened up her crate, she immediately ran upstairs. When I got to the top of the stairs, there she was wiggling her nub and jumping with joy.  Because my BF was fast asleep and had to get up extremely early the next morning, I didn't want to wake him so I just told her that "you got to be quiet" and then picked her up, snuck into the room, and just crawled into bed with her in my arms.  Would you believe this precious little girl just put her head down on my pillow and fell asleep????  No wiggling out of my arms to jump all over the bed like a crazy, hyper puppy...NOTHING!  Just fell asleep and started to do her little snore......it was so cute, but amazing that she knew she had to be quiet not to wake him up!  Needless to say, when the alarm went off in the AM, I opened up my eyes, and there she was just getting up and then did her little stretch!  It was way too cute!

With all good things aside, Annabelle has had a few accidents in the house, however, I blame myself because with all the running and playing around she has been doing and drinking plenty of water, she has a little bladder.  However, with the few hours she spends in the crate during the morning and evening, she doesn't pee in there or have any accidents during the night so she will need an attentive mommy and/or daddy to let her out frequently when not being crated until she has full control of her little bladder!

Other than that, she is an exceptional little girl!  So, if you think you can provide this little girl a loving and caring home and have a bit of patience, you better get your application in because SHE WILL NOT LAST!!!!!!

10/22/02 -  Annabelle continues to shine with her fantastic personality! She is such a sweet boxer puppy that aims to please and now knows how to sit and give paw! She hasn't made any messes in the house, and just loves to give KISSES, KISSES & MORE KISSES! She just showers everyone with happiness! She loves to romp around with my two adult boxers (may I say, giving them such a workout!) and when they are popped, she is content with just chewing on a bone by herself! She has no problems going in her crate; but only left in there for 4-5 hours at a time during the day and enjoying a restful night sleep with her foster mommy and her 2 boxer friends on a queen size bed at night! This precious little girl is definitely an ANGEL!
