12/3/04 - What to say about Buster...2 words...Sweet and Funny. This boy is such a lover. Gives kisses by the thousands, and plays and wiggles so cute and funny.
Buster, my boy, has been off all medication for a month and he is HEALTHY!! No symptoms or indications of any inflammatory bowel disease, and he is ready for his vaccinations that he will get on Dec. 15th. How wonderful that the parasites caused his inflamed bowels and there is no permanent damage or problems of any kind. He has been on regular Nutro Max dog food for a month now with no problems. That's my boy!!
Buster loves Flash. I got a great picture of him kissing & hugging her as she laid on the couch. He plays with her, runs with her, and kisses her all the time. But, he kisses Max too.. Buster is a joy to have around, and has never been destructive when left with free run of the house. I have no hesitation in leaving him out of his crate, but...he likes his crate. He runs in there to go to bed every night.
This boy so sweet and friendly, how anyone could give him up, I will never know.

10/7/04 - Buster is so funny. He prances around with a toy in his mouth all the time. He has such a happy personality. His boxer butt wiggles constantly. He takes toys outside with him every time he goes out, and he brings them in when I tell him to get his toys. He can have 4 toys outside at one time. He cheats when he plays fetch with the other 3 dogs. He dive bombs in to get the toy & he usually is the one to get it. I have banned him inside sometimes to give the others a chance. Buster will be done with the Flagle in about 3 weeks. I will probably be able to know within a few days off the medication if he is well or he has inflammatory bowel disease.  Buster likes his crate. He has gone in it many times on his own for a snooze. He is such a good boy. He never gets into anything that is not his, he kisses the other dogs till they can't stand it anymore. He plays nicely with Flash # 344 & sometimes with Lilly # 171. All 3 have played together too. Buster likes to climb on your lap with his 2 front feet, lick you to death, and then use your lap for a pillow. He stands like that forever. He is really sweet & little. My sister is jealous...she loves him & thinks he is adorable. She would like him for her own, but I am not sharing!

8/8/04 - No one would believe that Buster is the same dog that arrived here in March. Medically and physically, this dog is a changed dog. He is doing so well, that I have to watch his eating, or he would be fat. What a difference from the skeleton he was when he got here. He is going to be off the small amount of prednisone he was on next week. He will be off the flagel in 2 months, and then we will see how he is doing with no medications at all.
Buster is living with 3 other dogs and is doing wonderful with all of them. Hard to believe he was the one that started fights with my 2 girls over toys and bones from the 1st day he arrived. He plays with them, shares with no problems, and kisses all 3 dogs, male and female, all the time. To think there was a thought,at one time, that he might need to be the only dog in the house. He runs and plays with the other dogs, that he would have been lonely without another dog in the house.
Buster still has his toys in his mouth. He is a happy dog. He prances around, always licking you, the chair, your clothes, etc. and his tail is always wagging. Perhaps he knows how sick he was and is so happy now that he is well. Buster is friendly, sweet, loveable, and lets the girls be the watchdogs. Buster looks, but never barks.
I am so glad he was able to get well, get along with the others, and be mine.

7/8/04 - Buster was neutered and had no problems. This boy is such a happy boxer. His tail is always
going, he always has a toy in his mouth, and he just loves to play, play, play all day long. He can amuse
himself with the toys or he has fun running and boxing with Flash. Buster is such funny dog. He
wants every toy that any dog or person has even if he is playing with another. He tries to get 2
toys in his mouth at a time...he can't do it yet.
I got him a pad for his crate like Flash's. It has pillow cushions around 3 sides. He goes right
in the crate to sleep at night like Flash does...it is so comfortable for them with this pad. There
is not much room for them to sleep on the floor as they were doing, now that there is a 3rd crate
in the room for foster Max. When I tell them I have to "go to work", they go in the crate with no
problems.
My Buster boy is a real kisser too. He gives you a bath. He kisses the other 3 dogs too! He is
such a little lover. I sure am glad I adopted Buster. I haven't had a male boxer since 1976, only
females. It was time I had a sweet boy again and I sure have one now.
6/25/04 - Buster has been adopted by his foster family. Good Luck

6/14/04 - For those of you watching Buster progress, he is doing great.  His blood test results showed everything in the normal range & Buster will be neutered on June 21st. I am reducing his medication
dosages, & they will be reduced again after his neuter.  I don't think he will remain on medications too much longer.
Buster is one sweet, well behaved, healthy little boy. Look for more future updates on Buster on the adopted boxer page, because he soon will be mine.

6/5/04 - Buster is a very lucky young man!!  His foster family has become so attached to him that they have decided that they would like to adopt him.  So after he is well enough and is neutered, he will formally be adopted by his foster family.  And the family has graciously offered to continue fostering too.  Thanks so much.  If anyone wants to send a baby gift to the new parents, dog balls of any kind might be appropriate as Buster never seems to be without one in his mouth!

6/2/04 - Buster went to the vet. today to have his blood test done. No one can believe he is the same dog that I brought in 2 months ago.  Buster weighs 63.4 pounds, & is getting his muscles back.  He looks great! And he is doing excellent on the flagel. His test results should be in in about a week, & if the tests come back fine, he will be scheduled for his neuter.
He is remaining on the flagel & the prednisone, but I will be reducing the flagel dosage in 2 weeks.  The vet. wants to slowly wean him off the medications, so we don't upset his system & to see how much of reducing them he can tolerate.  Hopefully, over time, he can get off all medication, but that won't be for a few months.
As you can see from the pictures, Buster always has to a toy in his mouth.  It is, therefore, difficult to get any pictures of him that show his cute face. The other day he did not want to lose his tennis ball to eat, so he put it in the bowl & ate around it.
Buster is such a good boy.  He listens well, never jumps, rarely ever barks, is great in the crate...which I don't think he really needs, smells at the table & begs, but has never gotten on the table or counters, gets on your lap & gives you a bath, and is playing & running like a boxer with Flash.  He shares much better now, and rarely pees in the house...not anymore than Flash does!
If the blood tests come back that all is well, I would say Buster is one healthy boy now.  He may still needs some pills, but who cares!  He too sweet for that to matter.

5/25/04 - Great news! Buster's lab tests came back negative for all parasites & the antibiotic, Flagel, that
he is on, is like a wonder drug for him. It cleared up his diarrhea within hours of giving him the 1st dose.  And now, with 1 week on the medication, he is in perfect condition. Unfortunately, this may be an indication that he does have inflammatory bowel disease, & he may need medication all the time to keep it under control.
In the meantime, he will be going next week to the vet. for a blood test to see if his white blood cell count is finally in the normal range.  If so, then an appointment for his neuter can probably be made.  His vaccinations will be done at a later date, so as not to upset his system.  He is going to remain on the flagel for at least a month to be sure he continues to be in perfect condition & he is still on the prednisone at 15mg every other day.  Hopefully, Buster will not have any more flare ups &, a couple of months from now, Buster will be able to do well on lower dosages of the medications.
Buster is really great to have.  He plays so nicely with Flash, boxer play, & they chase each other around the yard.  It is amazing the difference in him with the other 2 dogs since he has been here.  It is much more pleasant & easier when they all get along together & can be together.
Buster is really a nice, sweet dog, lovable dog that gives lots of boxer kisses.  It is so nice to see him doing so well both physically & with sharing & playing with the other dogs.

5/17/04 - Buster is back on 1 antibiotic and a fecal test is being done to be sure problem is not that he
still has any parasites. His test results should be in within the week.  He plays with a ball all the time and he has run thru the yard with Flash.  He even played boxer style with her the other day.  He is a very well behaved little boy & always has a tail wag for you.  Will update again when his test results come in.

5/9/04 - Buster went to Grandma's today for Mother's Day. He walked in the house like he knew the place & had been there before and he knew who she was.  She & my sister thought he was adorable & were
amazed at how mellow & friendly Buster is.
All 3 dogs sat in the back seat of the car together for the 1st time & all went well.  They all like to stick their nose at the open crack in the windows, so they did play musical spots for the window seats.
Buster is now off the antibiotics & is on a lower dose of prednisone.  Hopefully, nothing will flare up in his intestines & he will be fine with the decreasing dosage of prednisone till his vet. appointment in June.
He is very comfortable now with my 2 boxer girls & they are all getting along great.
I sleep in the room with my dogs & Buster & no one is crated at night.  They all find a spot in the room to sleep & they sleep thru the night.  The door to the room is left open, & no one gets up during the night and all are where they were when they went to sleep...no accidents in the house & no need to crate anyone during the night.
I do crate Flash & Buster when I leave the house.  Flash gets into things, but Buster has never gotten into anything that is not his, even when he had busted out of the crate once & greeted me at the door when I came home.
He has gotten used to the crate & I have not double locked it now for 2 weeks, & he does not attempt to bust out anymore.  Perhaps he realizes he is company for Flash who is crated next to him.  I do believe Buster is housebroken, as it has been at least a week since I cleaned up anything.  He doesn't really know how to ask to go out, but he does head for the door, so I let him out. Keep fingers crossed that Buster will continue to be well.

5/5/04 - Buster is now 60 pounds. He doesn't need to gain any more weight. He is looking good...and as cute as ever.
I am reducing his prednisone to 15mg a day for 2 weeks & then 15mg every other day for 2 weeks. He will done with the antibiotics Sunday and will go to the vet. in 1 month for the fecal test to be sure he is well.
Buster walks around all day with a ball in his mouth. He took a nice run in the yard the other day with Flash.  It was so cute to see him running & enjoying himself with her.  He gives her kisses, but I told him she is too young for a boyfriend.
He plays fetch & should Flash get the ball, he chases her around & around thru the living room, kitchen, dining room.  It is great to see him be willing to share & enjoying some play with the other dogs.
He has not had any accidents in the house for days now and is becoming the perfect dog.
He is very sweet, cute, & friendly, & loves a tummy rub.  If you have any kind of ball or his little donkey with horns, he is a happy, content little boy.

4/26/04 - Buster is on the antibiotics now & will be seeing the vet. on May 5th. Another blood test will be taken to check his red & white blood cell count.  He will need another fecal test to be sure he is parasite free.  Don't know if the test will be done on his next vet. visit.  Buster eats well & may have gained another couple of pounds.  We will see when he goes to the vet.
Buster still loves those toys. He goes for a toy when he gets up in the AM. instead of going to the door to go out. He is improving on the house& crate breaking, but he does not know how to ask to go out.  You have to just let him out about 20 minutes after eating & after drinking water & then every few hours after.  He is still on the 20mg of prednisone a day, so he is drinking more water than normal due to the prednisone.  He does sleep thru the night in the crate, but I do let him out sometimes as late as midnight or 1 AM. before putting him to bed for the night...could be because I am a spoiler & if he is hungry at 9 PM or so, I will give him a little more food.  He was so
skinny when I got him, I can't deny him food no matter what time it is.
I will update again after his vet. appointment.

4/16/04 - Buster has gained 10 pounds in 2 weeks. He now weighs 51 lbs. He has completed the treatment for the Giardia & is on the treatment for the Cryptosporidium parasites.  He will then be on the 3 antibiotics again for 2 weeks & will remain on the IVD food for now.  Hopefully he will then be free of all the bugs and infections & will have continued to gain more weight.  He probably needs another 10 lbs. or so on him.

Although he does not need exercise to lose weight, I will be walking him so he can regain the muscles he has lost due his illness.  He walks well on a leash, so it will be enjoyable for both of us, now that spring has sprung.
Buster continues to do well with my 2 boxers.  He has learned to share toys & he is learning that there is an endless supply of food for him as well.  But if I want him to finish his bowl of food, I just let Flash walk near his bowl, & then Buster is more than happy to finish his own food!
He is not house or crate broken, so now that he is feeling better, we are working on that.  He does know sit, stay, come & of course his name.  I don't even have to get out the er in his name & he knows when I get to Bust, I am talking to him.
He still loves his balls to play with, & he is enjoying playing fetch.  He gives up the ball a bit more readily now that he is starting to understand that I can't throw it if he won't give it to me.  There are times I have to resolve to playing tug of war instead...Good exercise for his leg & arm muscles that he needs anyway, but he has no problems with his jaw muscles, that's for sure!
Buster would enjoy a home with or without other dogs.  He watches my 2 girls play together, but he hasn't joined in with them yet.  I am not sure he knows yet how to play with them, but he watches them intensely, so maybe he will figure it out soon.
If Buster continues to improve like he has for the last 2 weeks, he should be ready in a month or so for his vaccinations & neuter.  Keep watching for his medical hold to come off this page!

4/8/04 - Buster's test results are in.  He has Giardia & Cryptosporidium parasites.  He will be getting addition medication to clear him of these.  This medication will be given over 5 & 7 days, & he will be retested to make sure they no longer exist.  When he completes the necessary treatments, he
should be on the road to recovery & being able to gain weight.  These parasites may have been the problem that caused his inflamed bowels, & he may not have inflammatory bowel disease.  That will be determined after his treatments.  Thru it all, he has continued to be a sweet dog that loves to
play with toys.  I don't think he has any clue that he is ill.  It will be nice to see him improve & recovery from this ordeal.

4/5/04 - It seems that Buster is improving a bit.  He has not been passing blood for 1 1/2 days now, & does not spend so much time outside trying to finish his business.
He will be going to the vet. on April 14th for his follow up visit.  He continues to improve with my 2 girls.  He doesn't want to play rough boxer play with them yet, but he does like to play fetch with a ball, when he is willing to let you have it to throw for him.
He is a quiet dog & hopefully his health condition will continue to improve.

4/1/04 - Buster went to the vet. yesterday. They are doing lab work to rule out causes of his inflammatory bowel disease.
He is now on antibiotics & changing his food to IVD veterinary prescription food. The vet. is hoping that there will be improvement in his condition in a week. He will be going back to the vet. in 2 weeks for a follow up visit.
He takes his pills nicely. I open his mouth & put them down his throat. There has never been any uncooperation from him & it has been quite easy to do.
He is learning to share toys with my girls and has improved greatly. Let's hope this little guy gets better soon.

3/29/04 - Buster is such a sweet, friendly dog.  He loves to play with squeaky toys, be it animals, or a baseball or football & a tennis ball.  He has been great with both male & female clients that have come to the door.  Actually he doesn't even bark at the doorbell, although I do not think he yet realizes what it is or where it is coming from.  He is good with my 2 boxer girls, but does need work on the concept of sharing toys.  I believe there is some improvement in that already.  He is quiet in the crate as well & sleeps for great in there all night.  Due to his illness, I am not sure if he is crate trained or house broken yet.  Perhaps some of his accidents are due to him not being well, as there have been days he has been a perfect gentleman in that respect.
He really is a quiet, mellow boxer but has the typical boxer energy when you start playing toys with him.  He walk around all day with the baseball in his mouth.  He really is cute.I took him for a short walk yesterday. He walks great on a leash, much better than my own 2 girls.  The neighbor's dog barked at him & he totally ignored him, & did not pull on the leash to get closer to the dog. He met my neighbor as well, & was as sweet as could be.  He never pulled on the leash to meet anyone either.  The other neighbor's teenagers were playing ball, & he ignored them too.  He is a pure pleasure to take on a walk.  Now he needs to teach that to my girls. He will be going to the vet. on Wed. to see if there is anything else that can be done to speed up his recovery.  He eats well, but right now it is difficult for him to gain weight with his health problem.  So, if anything else medically can be done for him, we sure want know.  When Buster is well, he will make a great dog to have as your own.

3/22/04 - Since it was difficult to know how to pronounce his name, & he wasn't acknowledging any name anyway, I attempted to think of a new name for him. To my surprise, he somehow, like Hudini, escaped & busted out of his crate.   His fitting name has become Buster.

Health wise, there doesn't seem to be much improvement yet, but he has only been on prednisone for 2 days.  Poor boy is straining to pass blood after going to the bathroom.
Good news is that he does eat & so far no adverse side effects to the medication.  This medication requires a build up in the body as it becomes more effective, so it does need some time to see results.
He is smart.  He saw where I put the toys away yesterday...in a toy box behind the recliner.  Well he headed right for it this AM. & picked out toys to play with.
For a boy with a medical problem & so skinny, he has a great friendly personality & is always happy & playful.  He did not even bark at the FedEx man at the door today.  Just imagine how great he will be when he is feeling better & has some meat on his bones.

3/21/04 - I got in about 1/2 hour ago with Pada. He is cute & friendly, just jumped in the car with no problems.  He rode in the very well.  He played with his donkey toy he came with & then took a nap in the back seat of the car.

This dog is MUCH thinner than the picture show.  You can count all his ribs & his hip bones stick out.  He needs some real fattening up.
He has met my 2 girls.  He is fine with Lilly, but he had a ball in his mouth when he met Flash.  He is VERY protective of his toys.  Flash just walked by him, & he let her know it is his toy now.  So....all toys are put away for now.

3/20/04 - Pada is here with me for an overnight stay and move on to Deb tomorrow. He is extremely thin but very friendly and happy. He met up with my Missy and was very happy to see her.

He has a special diet to be on. This boy is very very ill and will need a lot of prayers to help him make it. His intestines are super inflamed, the walls are very thick and when he makes it is pure blood coming out.
I stopped at the local pharmacy to fill his prescription. He will be on 40mg of prednisone every 12 hours to see if this helps.
Again we need lots of angel prayers for this boy so please keep him in your thoughts.

3/20/04 - This little guy's name is Pada. He is 1-3 yrs. old and only weighs 35 1/2 lbs. I picked him up this morning and handed him off to Tina and Skittles. What a doll. Played some with his pink ball, but mostly wanted to be in my arms. He gives wonderful kisses too. He has his lucky collar on, that the really nice lady, who found him, made for him. It has a large bead on it with an eye. It's supposed to be watching over him. I sure hope so since his condition is very serious. It has gone on too long.
All the best, Pada.  Jane
