3/08 - Hello from Taylor and family.  I thought you would enjoy seeing how Taylor enjoys lounging at home.  What a character.  She continues to be great with the 1yr old and 2 yr old grandchildren who are here regularly.

12/07 - Taylor is doing wonderfully.  She is such a fun, warm and gentle soul.  We enjoy her so much!  She loves the snow.  She likes to run around in it and bury her ball.

She has gained some weight this year (about 5 lb.).  One of the youngest grandsons like to give her dog biscuits.  I just had her to the Vet for a checkup and she is very healthy.
Taylor spent lots of time on our boat this year.  Although she doesn't like when there is too much noise or activity in the Marina area, she knows exactly which dock and which boat is hers.  We usually go up on a weekday (quieter) and sleep on the boat for 1 or 2 nights.  We had an additional swim platform added to our Searay and hope Taylor will go into the water more next year.
We took a month long trip out West in June.  It was wonderful, except we hated being away from Taylor that long.  We found a kennel that has special "rooms" for dogs.  She has a raised bed, a TV, an indoor and outdoor play yard and she gets walked 5 times a day.  As soon as one of my daughters finished School (she's a teacher), she picked up Taylor for the last 10 days.  Taylor loves being at her house with her son and her boxer (Jeter).
Taylor joined us in Saratoga Springs for a night at the Holiday Inn and she is going to Maine with us next June.  So far, Taylor has been in 10 states plus DC  She is so good in the car!

12/18/05 - Taylor is anxiously awaiting Santa and a visit from her cousin Ripley (a beagle) who is staying for a week with us.  Taylor and Ripley play almost non stop when he visits from Ohio, where my future daughter-in-law is going to Vet School.

We wish you a healthy and happy New Year.
 Ellen and Lee and Taylor

8/8/05 - Hello. Just a quick update on our wonderful Taylor as her 2nd birthday approaches (8/11). We have come a long way with this little girl. Now that I am retired from my Postmaster job and we also just sold our Deli, Taylor has both her Mom & Dad home to play with. Her morning job is to take her Dad outside to inspect the yard, feed the wild geese, walk the woods and play ball. Next, she takes Mom up to the road (1/10 mile each way) to get the newspaper and then she gets to run all the way back to Dad. She has managed to even gain some weight with all that activity.
Taylor just returned from a weekend trip to Washington D.C., where she had wonderful manners at the Holiday Inn where we stayed. She also enjoys sleeping on our boat on Lake George. She still has to get over an initial shyness when we first arrive, but after that she does very well wherever she goes.
Thank you again for all you did with her. She is a blessing for us.

7/20/04 - Greetings from Taylor's Mom. Rather than sending frequent updates, I waited just over 2 months so
I could report on significant progress. My daughter will send pictures in the future, as I don't yet have the capability to send them.
Taylor is wonderful. As you both know, she has a "gentle" soul, and she really has blossomed so much in our home. She always had a lot of potential!
She is healthy and has recently had a bigger appetite, to where she is starting to fill in a little. She is so active when she plays, it is a wonder she can gain weight. She loves to get toys from her basket and play, play, play. She is so good at catching her balls in the air, and would play fetch forever.
No accidents in over 2 months (just a few the first few days). She is so eager to be a part of everything we do (now including rides in the car) and she looks at me with eyes asking for approval.
She plays well with other dogs and likes my daughter's cats. At the end of the month, when Tracey and her husband go away, Taylor will be helping me take care of an 8 week old Boxer puppy and his big Boxer brother, who's almost 9.
It took us a while to get Taylor to walk to the end of our driveway to get the mail and the paper. The driveway is 1/10 of a mile long. Now, she leads me on her leash every morning for the paper, at lunch for the mail and when I get home from work. She even walks along the road for a short distance before she wants to turn back.
She sleeps well through the night in our bedroom and if she does wake up betore the alarm, she plays with her toys that we leave in our room (No more walks at dawn!).
She amazed us 2 weeks ago when we decided to try a day up on our boat in Lake George. Besides being really good for the 2 1/4 hour car trip each way, she went right on the boat and stayed there for over 6 hours. Next time, we will try a sleep over on the boat and perhaps she can swim in one of the Bays. We did buy her a swim vest.
I will be retiring as a Postmaster within 2 or 3 months. Having Taylor to share my day and being able to take her on frequent rides will be wonderful. She has been trying to put one of her toys on the keyboard as I have writing to you. I know both her foster homes helped her so much.
My husband loves her deep "watchdog" bark when anyone comes to the door or down her driveway. It's amazing, since she isn't a barker normally. She makes little squeaks or whimper sounds, although she now also gives playful growls when she has a tug of war with us or other dogs.
Taylor is now trying to put her stuffed duck on the keyboard. She makes us laugh so much, which is a help for us, after losing both our Boxer Maggie (almost 12) and our German Shephard Gus (14+) within a 7 week period.
Thank you again for all you did in Taylor's life.   Ellen

5/26/04 - We are so happy to have Taylor join our family. She is fitting in extremely well. I am Ellen's daughter and was there when Taylor was picked up from her foster home. She is so full of love, kisses and wiggles. Taylor is absolutely loving her new yard. My mom told me that yesterday morning (6:45 am) Taylor was bouncing around in her pond having a good old time. Unfortunately she was quite mucky and smelly after. Taylor also likes to climb this strange tree on the property and then jump off of it. We will try to get a picture and send it in.

Taylor continues to get along well with the male dogs in the family. She is always trying to play with my mom's 14 year old Shepard Gus and has a grand old time with my Boxer JD. He's going on 9 years old but he tries very hard to keep up with her energy level. We will keep everyone posted. Thank you for our angel!    Tracey

5/19/04 - Hi Michele and family.  I want to again thank you for the wonderful home you gave Taylor when she was first surrendered.  She is doing really well here after the first 48 hours.  My daughter's 8 year old Boxer came over today and they played forever.  I'm sure she will sleep deeply tonight.

Would you believe she walks around outside with me without any chain on?  She also walks the path in the woods, where she loves to go to the bathroom and then run as fast as she can.  She always is sure she can keep an eye on where I am.  She is eating well and so far no accidents in the house.  She is so sweet, smart and comical.

5/17/04 - What can I say about Taylor?  She has made herself at home here already.  I think that Kevin and his wife did a wonderful job with her in the last few weeks, and of course, Michele had the initial problems to work with.
She has met my daughter's Boxer at her home, has met my German Shepherd (they like each other), has played with my 4 year old grandson, and has seemed very comfortable here.  The only growl noise we have heard is when the Grandfather Clock goes off.
She has taken long walks in the woods with me, she walks out to the road with me, she has no problem going to the bathroom in front of me, and loves to play, play , play.  Kevin packed up a bag of her toys for us to bring home.
Today, since I have the day off, we will be taking a ride in the car to Kingston to shop at PetSmart and then visit Daddy at our Deli.  When we come home we will take our first walk out on the road.
She is sleeping beside me on the floor as I send you this email.
Thank you for sending us such a sweet Boxer "Angel".     Ellen

5/16/04 - Taylor left with her new family.  She was scared and confused, but they seem like a very loving family and she'll be spoiled rotten :)  It was tough to see her leave for both of us, she has
a way of really making you love her.  Hopefully we'll all get some pictures soon!!!

5/15/04 - Taylor is pending adoption.

4/24/04 - Taylor here.  I wanted to tell you a real cute story about myself.  Yesterday the 2 1/2 year old was upset and on the couch crying.  When I heard him cry I ran right over to him and climbed up on the couch with my front paws.  I climbed in as close to him as I could and started giving him lots of gentle boxer kisses.  I knew something wasn't right and I wanted to make him feel all better.  Foster mommy and daddy said it was the cutest thing!  But I only did it to help he feel better so he wouldn't have to cry anymore.  I don't like seeing him sad.  My foster parents have been talking a lot about a "vacation" lately.  I don't know what it means exactly but they have said that I am going to stay with another foster family while they are on vacation.  And if I don't have my forever home by the time they come back from vacation, I'll be back with them again.  They keep saying they are going to miss me soooo much.  They are calling it my very own vacation.  But my foster fur brother isn't coming with me - so I'll miss him a lot.  But they said I'll have a foster fur sister to play with and a fenced in yard to run around in.  It doesn't sound too bad.  I know I'll miss my foster family, but they said my foster-foster family is really great and will give me lots and lots of love!  My new foster mommy and daddy will let you know how my vacation is going and how well I do with adapting to a new situation, a new foster sister and having a fenced in yard to play in.  Talk soon!  Love, Taylor

4/21/04 - Okay, so why is this little girl still with us?  She’s everything you’d want in a Boxer Girl and more.  Playful, obedient, friendly, loving, smart, loyal – the list goes on and on.  Her true boxer personality is really shining through now.  Her new thing is to “steal” an “illegal” toy and trot away with it.  It’s such a funny little trot, like she is purposely trying get our attention.  Then she lies down on her blanket with it just barely hiding it under her chin.  And she just looks at you with the cutest eyes and waits for you to see what she’s got.  She doesn’t play with it at all – it’s just a game of “look at what I’ve got”!  On a “potty” note, we have our boxer trained to ring some bells hanging from our doorknob to let us know when he has to go out.  In the past couple of days, Taylor has rung them a couple of times to let us know she had to go potty.  What a smart girl!!  We weren’t teaching her this yet; she just picked it up on her own from watching Max.  This girl is so EASY to fall in love with.  She is just awesome with our two year old, who by the way has trouble saying her name so he just calls her Taya.  She has become quite attached to me, but I think it’s just a girl thing.  Now she wants to follow me right out the door whenever I leave, even if it’s daylight.  If we had a fenced in yard – I know she would be playing outside much more.  She would definitely be more comfortable without having to be kept on a leash so she could come and go at her own pace.  Oh and I almost forgot to tell you, she LOVES cream cheese and pizza crust!  She’s such a fabulous little girl, you really don’t want to miss out on your chance to have her be a part of her family.  Believe me any additional work and training she needs will be sooooooo worth it!!

4/16/04 - I cannot describe in words how wonderful Taylor is.  Although we think she should have a more girlie name to suit her personality.  But we'll leave that up to her forever family.  Taylor was spayed and Tuesday and came through it with flying colors.  Although between having to fast for the surgery and then the first two days of recover, she lost a little weight.  But we don't think it'll be a problem for her to put it back on.  With just a few more days of recovery time, she will be ready to move onto her forever home.  So if you are looking for a sweet, loveable, eager to please, playful little girl - she is the one for you!  She has taken immensely to going outside after sunset.  I think she even looks forward to it now.  So it's only a matter of some gradual exposure and I know she'll enjoy being outside during the day as much as she enjoys it at night.  She is also learning to enjoy car rides too - I know this will be a big help in exposing her to the outdoors from an environment that she feels safe and secure in.  This cutie-petutie, sweetie-pie has so much love to give, give, give - wouldn't you like to be the one to receive it?????

4/12/04 - Taylor here! Foster mommy said it would be great for me to tell you all about myself. First of all I am the SWEETEST little girl around. I am very well behaved for a 7 month old. I have my fair share of puppy antics, but I am not a destructive little girl. Just give me enough things of my own to play with and chew on and I won’t bother with yours. I love that my foster family is very patient and loving with me. I tend to be a little scared of new people, but given some time and love I warm right up!! My foster mommy and daddy both work during the day – and sometimes it’s been anywhere from 5 to 7 hours before someone has the chance to stop back in and I don’t have ANY accidents during that time. I’m not thrilled about going outside, but that’s because it’s so wide open and there are lots of strange noises. But I am getting MUCH better! I really love playing with their resident Boxer; we have so much fun together. We play a little bit while we are home alone, but mostly we just sleep the day away. My most active times of day are the first couple of hours in the morning when I wake up and then a couple of hours after mommy and daddy come home from work. But they go to bed early so by 8:30pm I’m ready for bed for the night myself. I used to stay up much later, but I quickly adjusted to their routine. They have a 2 ½ year old skin kid too and I am sooooo GREAT with him. I give them all the BIGGEST boxer wiggles when they come home; my whole body wiggles in joy for just seeing them. Just think of how much fun it will be having me greet you at the door when you come home. I know my forever family is out there and I can’t wait to meet you!!!

4/8/04 - Yesterday was a WONDERFUL day for Taylor.  We had some major
breakthroughs.  First, she was eager to go outside in the morning when Max went out and the sun was already rising.  So I took her out on the leash and we zipped around the yard a bit and she went back in and so did Max.  Well she wanted back out so I put her on the lead and in 30 seconds she zipped into the front yard, peed and came right back.  WOW!  Good for her!  Then I got home from school last night at 10pm and Max had to go out again and Taylor also wanted to join him.  She was just loving it, walking and running around on leash, sniffing and checking everything out.   She ran to the door a couple of times, but just to look in and zipped back into the yard.  I know she didn't
want to go back inside because we have trained her to "knock" on the door when she wants to go back in.  After about 25 minutes she wanted back in, so we went. Then she wanted back out and during this 10 minute tromp, she peed!  Whoo!! Hoo!! And she still didn't want to go back inside. We spent another 15 minutes outside before I had to finally call it quits.  I was tired and hungry – having not had dinner.  I hated having to drag her back inside but 11pm was my
limit.  But it does feel good saying I had to drag her back in, where up till now I've had to drag her out.  Yes, she is still using puppy pads inside, but I'm sure it won't be much longer till she's completely transitioned to doing her business outside.  We still need to work on her becoming comfortable outside during the day, but I have not doubts that we'll get there.  And have I mentioned this
little girl has the BEST boxer wiggle when she greets us!  Her whole body wiggles around!  She is so adorable and so cute.  And she is so playful!  And not overly rambunctious!  With a lot more love and patience and a little more training she is going to be the BEST boxer baby around, without a doubt!!

4/5/04 - After being with us for 3 weeks, Taylor is building up some good trust in us. That is the most important thing needed for this little girl to get through her housebreaking. For the first time, she signaled me (subtly) that she had to go potty. It was during the day and she was too frightened to head outside, but we walked over to her puppy pads together and she peed. Kudos to her!! She finally knows she can trust us and that we won’t reprimand her for going potty. I know it’s a little backwards to reward her for going potty inside, but we need to take some unorthodox approaches and they are working. She enjoys having another boxer around to help expend her puppy energy and she is very good with our 2 ½ year old. She is a very smart girl and loves playing with toys, especially balls – of any size. We were running a little late this morning (like chickens with our heads chopped off) before heading out the door and this definitely affected her. She stayed glued to her seat in her safety zone (the love seat in the LR) and looked apprehensive. So your attitude and mood will definitely affect her as she reacts greatly to the emotions emitted around her. We have had an occasional visitor to the house and Taylor escapes to her safety zone upon their arrival. The visitor cannot approach her quickly but as long as they give Taylor the space and time to adjust and see that the new human is friendly and trustworthy, she will slowly warm up. My mom-in-law has come by a few times and Taylor has gotten to know her well enough to allow mom to baby-sit them all (skin and fur kids), while we are out. But a home with many people coming and going a lot of the time would probably not be the best suited home for her. Let me tell you though, she is so much fun to have around and is such a very sweet and smart little thing. If we felt the time was right for us to have a 2nd dog, we would never let her go!!

3/31/04 - We have been making some GREAT progress with Taylor. She is showing more and more interest in going outside. At this point it is only before or after sunset and it is still only for short spurts (less than a minute) but that is a vast improvement from what she was like just 2 weeks ago. She also finally pooped in my presence!! You never saw someone so excited to see a dog poop in your life!! She is finally realizing that it is okay to “do her business” and that we are not going to reprimand her for it. So we are getting there – it may be with lots of little baby steps, but we are getting there. She also does not need quiet time for meals anymore, however if I am in the house, she likes to have my company while she dines. She actually stayed quiet and content until we woke up this morning (a pleasant change from her 5am wake-ups), but that was because her and our resident boxer decided to have playtime at 2am! So they were both a little slow to get a move on the day. She had a recheck at the vet yesterday for her lesions and the primary infection is gone. She does have a yeast infection from over-licking that area, but by cleaning it daily it will clear up. Poor thing has to wear a special collar for a few weeks to keep her from licking though. Otherwise things are going quite well and we look forward to giving you another update in a few days.

3/28/04 - Taylor is just doing fabulously here at the Boxer Resort & Spa.  She made some big progress this weekend.  All weekend she made it from the time she went to bed (about 9pm) till the time she got up (about 5am) without having to go potty.  And that’s without being crated!!  She is eager to go outside on leash or on the lead for the first hour she is awake (5am-6am). After the day has dawned she is content to just hang out inside the house again.  Then between 3pm-ish to 5pm-ish is her potty time again – when she’ll need to go a few times and then usually just once more in the late evening before bedtime.  I think that is just fantastic for a 7 month old!  She will go outside on leash or lead again once the sun has set, but isn’t as eager about it as she is in the morning.
But considering what she was like two weeks ago, this is unbelievably fast progress.  She is right back on track with going on her puppy pads inside – just as I thought, it was my unexpected absence for 2 days which threw her off her routine.  But now she is just fine.  We’ve concluded that her puppy power surges have a definite routine.  She is very lively and playful the first few hours she is awake.  And then again for a few hours in the evening before bedtime.  Otherwise during the day she is as quiet as a church mouse and the perfect houseguest!  She does not get crated at all.  She and our resident boxer have full run of the 1st floor while we are not home and they are both perfect angels – no destruction, no bad behavior.  She is learning new commands quickly and is very eager to please.  She is such a sweetheart who just needs a loving family.

3/25/04 - WOW has this girl blossomed in such a short time!!  Taylor’s personality is truly starting to shine.  She is a very playful puppy with lots of puppy power surges!  She is responding to commands very well – sit, stay, off, come.  Taylor is very eager to please.  She is now interested in going outside.   She doesn’t want to stay out there yet, but when we are putting Max out on his lead she tries to dive right under his legs to go outside.  This is so good to see!  With some more time, patience and persistence I know she can learn that outside is a good place.  She hasn’t been doing well with the paper training inside though.  I was away on business the past two days and foster dad was in charge of our full crew without me.  So she may have been a little out of sorts because
of that.  We’ll see if me being back home puts her back on track with “doing her business” on the puppy pads.  Her lesions are almost completely healed.  She doesn’t lick them at all anymore.  I think she may have been very stressed prior to entering our rescue and that caused her to lick her wounds a lot, which kept them from healing properly.  Now that they are well onto their way to healing we can schedule her spay.  This weekend we’re going to concentrate on lots of time outside.  We’re going to bring out her favorite toys and show her how much fun it can be to hang outside.  We’ll let you know how it goes!

3/22/04 - Taylor is finally warming up to our home and is quite the playful.  She has what we are calling, “Puppy Power Surges”, where she just runs and jumps and plays and tosses things around.  She really loves chasing balls, of any size, and chewing on her kong even if it’s not filled with peanut butter!  As far as her fear of the outside, we are making some progress.  She now walks over to the
door and is interested in going out.  She no longer runs from us when we take out her leash.  She will still flinch a little, but overall she is much better.  She walks right out onto the stoop without a problem and most of the time she makes it down the 3 stairs before wanting to run back inside.  We’ve even gotten her to walk partially down our front walk.  You definitely have to take “baby steps” with this sweet thing.  It’s supposed to get nice and warm this weekend, so we are going to head outside with some of her favorite toys in hopes that she will see that outside can be fun-time and not something fearful.  She is coming along well with being paper-trained inside.  She hits the puppy pads 95% of the time.  Of the remaining 5% of the time, she is usually within inches of her puppy pads.  Once in a while she decides to go somewhere completely different.  We’re not sure why, but it’s usually on one of her blankets so it’s an easy clean-up.  She no longer cowers after going potty or even after we see that she has gone potty.  We think it’s only a matter of time before she will be comfortable going to the bathroom in our presence.  That will be a huge step forward in her housebreaking, since she will not go outside alone.  We’re thinking of her as part boxer/part indoor cat!  Her belly lesions are clearing up with the medicated cream, so she will be ready for her spay soon.

3/18/04 - Taylor is starting to come out of her shell.  She is getting very playful and we’ve even seen her do the boxer butt wiggle, finally!  She and our resident boxer are getting along fabulously.  He is a very submissive and gentle dog – which helps greatly.  She was making improvement with housebreaking by peeing outside most of the time, but all the snow has put a stop to that.  She completely sits to pee (not squat) and I don’t think she likes putting her little butt into the snow.  We have decided to “paper train” her in the house until we can eliminate her fear of the outdoors.  Taylor is just too darned scared outside to relax enough for her bowels to do their thing.   As soon as the snow melts we are going to put puppy pads outside in the hope that she will see them and say “hey that’s what I go on inside, let me do the same thing outside”.  She cannot be left outside alone or even put on an outside lead or cable run as this terrifies her.  Leash walking is the only option right now.  She is now comfortable with walking out the door with us.  She makes it onto the front stoop before wanting to run back inside and hide.  It may not sound like much, but it is a great improvement for her as it was taking us up to 10 minutes just to get her to walk to the door with her leash on.  Her appetite is getting better and she likes plain yogurt with her food.  She needs quiet time and someone to keep her company while she eats. We are very happy to see her showing signs of being a playful, mischievous puppy!  She decided to steal one of our sons magic markers yesterday to use as a chew toy - it was green – appropriate for the St. Patty’s day holiday!  Thank you Crayola for washable non-toxic markers!  Her vet appointment went well and she is UTD on shots.  We have some antibiotic cream to apply to her belly lesions twice day and after they heal she will be ready to be spayed.  Stay tuned as I know we will have more stories on this little girl.

3/15/04 - Taylor is beginning to adjust to our home.  She is a VERY timid dog who will need to be in a very loving environment.  We have to things to overcome with her 1) She is not housebroken and 2) she shows signs of being afraid to go outside.  We've actually had to carry her to the door a couple of times to bring her out.  We will need to work on both of these situations simultaneously.  So we are more than prepared to have "accidents" in the house.  But we don't mind - we know it won't be permanent as long as we give this girl lots of love, training, persistency and consistency.  She is
doing well with our Boxer as well as our toddler.  Within about a week we will introduce her to our cats.  She is going to the vet's on Wednesday for an overall exam and to make sure she is UTD.
She has some lesions on her belly which need to be looked at by the vet also so we can find out what we can do to help them heal.  She also is not spayed yet, so we will be setting up an appointment for that also.  As soon as she builds up some trust in us, I know she will have lots of love to give.

3/14/04 - Taylor has arrived at the Boxer Resort and Spa. She is a cute and little brindle boxer girl.  She's approximately 6 months old, as we have been told.  She is very sweet and VERY timid.
We'll get some pictures posted as soon as we can.  She came to rescue due to her not being housebroken.  As soon as we have a chance to get to know her a little better, we'll post more about her.
