5/24/06 - Hi Everyone! We have had Roxie several weeks now and she fits in our family like a glove! She is definitely one of us! She is so LOVING and GENTLE!! She is so happy to be LOVED and part of the FAMILY! Her behavior is great and her manners are awesome! She obeys commands and the BEST is when we eat our meals she lays by the table and does not BEG for food! She loves to walk and PLAY....typical of our
boxers! She has the best boxer wiggle and does it every time we are away for a few hours. It only took
several days to decide she did not have to be crated when we are gone for 3-4 hours and she is great and when we return she gives us kisses and the famous boxer wiggle! I bought her a bed when I went to pick her up and she does use it.....but she sleeps by our bed at night sometimes laying with us until lights out.
She spends her afternoons with Daddy doing yard work and mowing the yard.
I want to Thank Kim W., Roxie's foster Mom, with all my HEART!!! She is the most kind, loving person who is a true animal lover! From our first contact she was supportive, encouraging and extremely helpful! We are so lucky to have her in this rescue group! Thank-You
Kim.
I would also personally like to Thank Kathy and Alex Hartley. If it wasn't for them I would have
never known about this wonderful group of LOVING volunteers. We are family to our dogs and each
other!

I believe in fate and this wonderful, loving dog came to me so unexpectedly...just as it was meant to be! We love her so much and want to Thank our WONDERFUL BAR!!
God Bless You All!  Onlee and Don

5/13/05 - Roxie has been adopted

5/11/06 - Roxie is Pending adoption

5/11/06 - We have decided that Roxie should not go a home with small children or female dogs. She continues
to be a love bug but still growls at my toddler. I do not trust her unsupervised with small children. She is fine with my 10 and 13 yr old, so older children would be fine. She also continues to have squabbles with the female dogs of the house so I would say no to females. Roxie also struggles with anxiety in the crate and would love to go to a home that did not use one. She is fine out of crate, I have to use one so she does not have unsupervised interaction with the other dogs. Other then that Roxie is a joy and would make a wonderful addition and loyal friend. She is very obedient and affectionate.  House broken. Well behaved in public. Loves to ride in cars. Walks well on leash. Once you meet her you can't help but fall in love.

4/24/06 - I am happy to report Roxie did wonderful at training day (as did all the dogs). In a room of 12 Boxers, 1 pug, 1 shi sue, and a bulldog, Roxie was one of the most relaxed, calm dogs there. She also did wonderful on the three and a half hour trip one way. She slept in the backseat with my 10 yr old son the whole way. Roxie also stayed in a pretty small motel room with our boxer and the two of them got along like they have been together forever.
Roxie never actually came nose to nose (or should I say nose to butt) with anyone, but she laid quietly and calmly within three feet of two boxers all day. That is a huge improvement for her. I am very proud of her.
I am not by any means saying she is cured of her issues. But I am definitely saying she is more then well on her way.
Upon returning home from training day, I took Roxie and the dogs we left home for a long walk. She seemed to miss them. (even the ones she fights with). She immediately fell into place by my side, in sync with the other dogs and fully enjoyed her walk. She actually looked happy to be a member of a pack. With proper leadership and confidence to handle any dog aggression situation if it should occur, Roxie would make an excellent laid back, obedient, loyal companion.

4/19/06 - Roxie had a wonderful Easter. She's had a bit of an upset tummy lately so we took her along to grandma's for dinner. She was with a seven month old, a one yr old, two two yr olds, and three older kids ages 6 to 13. She loved every minute of the attention. She had nothing but kisses for the little ones. Roxie was very calm and laid back in a house full of people. She pretty much laid on the floor at my feet. No begging for food. I've also taken taken her to a couple of my son's baseball practices. There are four fields and lots of room to walk. She is calm and relaxed the whole time were there even though there are tons of people on all the fields. She loves to walk around the fields. She actually looks as though she's prancing when she walks. She is wonderful on leash. Very friendly with everyone she meets. She doesn't demand attention but rather waits until she's asked to come visit a stranger. Then she's all wiggles. I now walk both Roxie and my dog she had the issues with, side by side leashes in the same hand with no problems. Roxie has met the neighbors horses with nothing but curiosity and maybe a little fear. Roxie is doing great with my dogs but we have not had her around other dogs as of yet to see her reaction. She will be going to the rescues training day this weekend where there will be lots of new dogs. I will post how she does.

4/15/06 - Roxie is still doing wonderful. She is just the sweetest thing. This is a girl that gives up her leadership very easily to someone who shows her it not necessary for her to be in charge. She watches me constantly for reassurance that she's being good. All she wants from me is kind words and a pat on the head. She's willing to do anything I say to please me. She really is a well behaved dog. We have no accidents in the house. She does what she's told with no protesting. She does make some noise in the crate. We crate her anytime we can not supervise her with the other dogs. She sleeps on a blanket on the floor next to me at night. Roxie would probably be fine out of the crate and not get into anything( she can't be left unsupervised with other dogs). But her previous owners says she does have accidents when left alone for more then 5 hours. I have crated her a couple of times for that amount of time and she's had no accidents in her crate, so I guess you would just
have to see. Roxie is fine with cats ( she used to live with them). She is also fine with kids of all ages. Little ones do have to be gentile and she's more then willing to sneak them a kiss. She is basically a pretty easy go lucky girl that is just waiting for someone to see how special she is a give her a forever home. Let me tell you, you would be getting a very devoted, loving, obedient, loyal, playful, affectionate dog.

4/10/06 - Today was a very important day for my whole pack. We had a visit from Kim ( BAR's mentor). I learned a wealth of information and some hands on training to not only help Roxie learn about being a member of a pack, but some issues with my own dogs as well. I am very confident that with what I have learned I can help Roxie learn to live with a pack. She has actually been doing better the past few days. With the weather being nicer we have been spending some time outdoors doing yard work. Roxie, along with one of the other dogs has been enjoying the weather with us. Roxie loves being outside with the family. She stays right with us following us around. She never wanders to far.
When you call her she immediately comes to you. She does wonder over to the car hoping to go for a ride. This wonderful girl would be a very devoted, loving, attentive friend to anyone looking for an only dog to cuddle with. She would prefer not to share any affection and have it all for herself.
Please don't overlook this girl because of her age. She doesn't act or look a day over five, no grey anywhere on her. even though were working through her issues and making some improvements, she would be much happier in a lower activity home without all the nonsense of those younger pups.

4/6/06 - Just wanted to update on miss Foxie Roxie. She continues to be a huge sweetheart that wants to give you all her attention and love. I do feel Roxie would be better suited to a home with a male dog or no dogs. As she gets more comfortable here I am realizing she is a dominant female with other females and we have had some mishaps. I am working with our wonderful advisor who is teaching me how to work with this problem and I'm confident we can get this under control. From what I understand Roxie has never lived with other dogs and she needs to learn how to be a part of a pack. She is very obedient to my commands if I catch the situation before it escalates and I'm pretty
confident we can work through this. She only seems to show aggression when someone comes to the door and all the dogs want to say hello at the same time. I think that all the excitement stresses her out (having never dealt with a pack of dogs before) and she strikes out (only at one of the other female dogs). But were working on it and I will keep everyone updated on her progress.
Roxie seems to like my 13 yr old daughter a lot. She follows her into her room and tries to get on her bed which she is not allowed to do. So she settles for the blanket my daughter has put on the floor for her. She is the sweetest thing and loves to cuddle and give kisses. She likes to go for walks, walks like a pro on the lead. She loves to ride in the car. She settles right in and looks out the window. Roxie would be perfect for an older person or couple looking for a low maintenance dog for companionship, short walks, relaxing naps in the recliner. She is very attentive and affectionate, and just wants a little love in return.

4/4/06 - Roxie is doing very well here at the pooch retreat. She's settling in quite nice. She doesn't mind the other dogs to much. In the house she is on her best behavior, very quiet, relaxed. But outside you would never know she's pushing 10. She loves to bounce around and play. She's not to big on playing with those younger pups. There just to rough. She would rather play with a human any day.  Roxie is on the small side for a boxer. She's not very tall at all. But she certainly has a HUGE heart full of love and devotion. There is just something about this love muffin that draws you to her. You can't help but fall in love with her. All she wants is your love and attention, give her a sense of belonging to a pack and she will give it back to you ten fold. We went to the vet yesterday for her checkup. Doc says she is in pretty good health for her age. Roxie did growl at the doc upon his entering the room. But after about a minute of sitting on the floor next to her and talking to her, she was in his lap showering his face with those boxer kisses.
Let me tell you folks, anytime spent with this girl, however long or short it may be, would be something to be treasured. She has definitely left paw prints on my heart.

4/3/06 - Roxie has been here for two days now. I forget she is here. She's so quiet. She finds a nice soft quiet place to lay and watch everyone. That is until potty time. She certainly has some energy for an old gal. She bounces in circles and jumps around just happy to be with someone. She actually bounced so much on our walk this morning, I lost her leash. Low and behold, Roxie is not a runner. She continued to walk by my side. When she started to get a little ahead of me I spoke her name and she immediately stopped and waited. I'm not surprised. She is never to far from my side. She doesn't have to follow me around, but if she can't see me she will find a new spot to curl up where she can. Roxie does not like the crate one bit. Probably because she can't see me. She sleeps on the floor on her pillow on my side of the bed. She sleeps all night. She also doesn't mind her nails cut. I don't know if she is food aggressive since all the dogs are fed separately. She does however not have a problem sharing the water bowl. I don't know if Roxie knows what treats are. I've tried giving her several kinds and she turns her nose at them. She not keen on the toys either. She would rather jump around with you in the yard.
I'm planning on taking her to the nursing home where my mother works next week. I just know she would love it. I don't think Roxie realizes she's a dog. She would much rather be with people any day and doesn't seem to enjoy embarking on those things dogs do. She is very polite and prissy. Just loves everyone she comes across. No jumping or slobbering for this girl. A nice polite sit and offering of the paw is her way of saying hello. ( her kisses are saved for her people only). Roxie baby, you can stay here at the pooch retreat as long as you would like.

4/2/06 - Folks, Roxie is the sweetest, most lovable, affectionate dog I have had the privilege of meeting. She is very devoted to her people. Roxie was dropped off by her family to a family members house "temporarily" and they never returned. After keeping her a year they then took her to a shelter. She just wants someone to call her own, and let me tell you, she has definitely earned the right to be spoiled rotten.
Upon meeting Roxie I knew she was a special girl. The ride home confirmed it. She just showered me with kisses and laid her head on my arm the whole way looking up at me with those loving eyes.
Roxie is alright with other dogs, but doesn't have the patience for the younger more playful ones. She let's them know she just wanted to be left alone by little growl. She is very responsive to a stern "no" and then relaxes. She loves kids of any age and loves to give kisses, she just doesn't appreciate being climbed on by the younger ones. But again, a stern "no" takes care of that. She is after all a bit older and would just appreciate it if everyone would respect that. Roxie would love to be by your side wherever you are and take frequent naps on a big fluffy pillow or blanket.
She has a strong desire to please and is very sensitive to any kind of commands. Watch for more updates on this precious girl.

4/1/06 - Welcome Roxie!!!! Roxie has arrived at the pooch retreat. She was such a cuddle bug all the way home. She is so easy to love. Introductions are going to have to go slow. She's an older girl and doesn't seem to have much patience for the younger dogs here. She is being very quiet in her crate right now just kind of watching everyone else. I think she will fit in nice when everyone learns to relax cuz momma lady is in charge here.

Keep watching for those pictures. She has one of those faces that say's take me home.
