6/28/06 - Valentino has been adopted by his foster-to-adopt family.

6/19/06 - Valentino is pending adoption

5/1/06 - Valentino continues to improve. We did a urinalysis on him and he does still have crystals in his urine. The accidents are further apart, he has been gaining weight (up to 45lbs now) and is still a total love bug. He has been back with me for a couple of weeks now and it is like he never left...he is just one of the gang. I let him out about 3 this morning and when I came back in he was in the back in my bed sleeping (I think he was faking so I wouldn't move him) so I left him there and he slept with me the rest of the night. He is such a good snuggler and so very sweet. The more hugs and kisses you can give him the better. He just loves attention. He loves to play with the toys, tug of war with my 4 yr old girl, Dusty, is his favorite. The also chase each other around the yard teasing each other with the toys. Once he is all tuckered out Valentino loves to come in and stretch out on the couch and take a nice long nap.
I truly think that any family would be very lucky to have this boy as part of their family. we are hoping that he will be able to go to his new family very soon.

4/13/06 - Valentino was returned to my home for some tests due to accidents in the home.  It was found that he had crystals in his urine and needs to be on a special diet for approx 2 months to help the crystals dissolve.  My vet feels no surgery will be required and once his sample comes back normal he will need to be on a low ash diet.  We also did a blood chemistry test on him to rule out liver or kidney problems, the results are back and all is normal and he is a very healthy boy.
So all Valentino needs is some lovin and patience and he will be fine.  He is a super boy and loves EVERYONE he meets. Still great with the dogs (except one pug) and fine with the cats...they rub up against him and he just stands there...could care less. He has got to be the mushiest dog I have had yet...he just loves to be pet and curl up with you...so very super sweet! He was with a 10 month old baby for a while and was perfectly fine as well.

3/5/06 - Valentino continues to do well while he is here...I don't think I have had a better snuggler then this boy.  He just climbs in your lap and curls up and takes in all the loving you can give him.  He is also quite the clown...plays with my boxers but only inside...he is definitely not an outdoors dog.  He barks a bit in the crate but does settle down...he is soft and very gentle and he now knows to sit when getting a treat of I am making his dinner....I just have got to get a photo...he sits there proud as can be with his ears perked and head tilted...I tell him what a good boy is and you can just see how proud of himself he is....so much different then when he came in jumping up on the counters.  he is super smart and picks up on things quickly....he is a great boy...hopefully he will be neutered in a week or two and can then go to a new home....could that be you??

2/25/06 - Valentino had his vet visit the other day and he was an absolute dream at the office.  He just sat there while all the other animals came and went. Of course everyone there loved him and couldn't get over how cute he is.  Doc checked him over thoroughly and came to the same conclusion as I had in regards to his hind legs, he feels he was in a cage in the pet store that was way to small for him and he could not stand up straight so his tendons could not stretch out...he does feel with time and exercise his legs will be fine.  They do already look 100% better then they were.
He still needs to be neutered but again doc feels he is malnourished and needs 5-10 lbs prior to going in for surgery.  Such a horrid life for a boy so young.. I am so very happy we have gotten him into rescue where he can run and romp as he pleases and has an endless supply of food to put on his much needed weight.
Valentino loves to play with the toys and my shih tzu girl and the boxers as much as they will tolerate him....they are a bit older. He is good in the crate...whines a bit but settles down.  He still needs work on the house training and he needs to be on a steady diet.  I have changed his food 2 x, once when he came to me and then a few days ago and he has gotten bad diarrhea both times.
This boy is such a sweetheart...he loves to climb in your lap and get all the loving he can...he needs it for all he has been through I am more then happy to oblige.  If you have the time for training and lots of love to give this very deserving boy feel free to fill out an application today.

2/18/06 - Well Valentino continues to do very well in my home.  He is a wonderful dog with a lot of puppy energy and boxer personality.  It will be MANDATORY for Valentino to go to obedience classes upon adoption.  He has no manners and although I am working with him he will still have a long way to go.
Valentino loves to play with anyone who will play with him..as you can see in the photos he is playing with my shih tzu and being gentle with her.  There is also a cat in the photos to show he could care less.
The one bad habit I have found with him is he likes to bite feet....he gets playing and will bite your feet...hurts a bit so we will put a stop to that ASAP.  He has had a couple of accidents in the home but I feel it is mostly because he is so excited he gets playing and forgets where he is...plus he doesn't care to go out in the cold.  He is great in the crate...very quiet and no accidents.  I have given him a kong with peanut butter and he just loves it...tonight I gave him a kong with treats inside and he is STILL working on getting them out of there...if interested get those apps in quick as I am sure we will get many on him but it is also not first come first served...it is the best possible home that matches what he needs.

2/16/06 - Mr. Rudy Valentino (we learned of him on valentine's day) has arrived for a temporary stay here at the Haven.  He was a puppy store puppy bought then turned into a shelter 4 days later stating not good with other dogs....well I don't know what this family was seeing but he is great with my guys...all 5 of them, 3 boxers, a shih tzu and a pug....he is also fine with my cats.....go figure.  He is a typical pup and just wants to play with everyone so far.  A bundle of energy that anyone will love.
His hind legs don't seem to straighten all they way out so we will have him looked at....my thoughts are he was in a pet store cage for so long he couldn't stand up straight so his tendons weren't stretched...but this is only my thoughts, we will see what the vet has to say.
I will write more on him in a day or so as I get to know him...only been here a few hours now but sure is settling in well....oh and he does need house training, Jack you weren't the only lucky one on the transport to find a surprise in the back...me too...p-u!  Valentino and I thank you for getting him out of the shelter and on to his new life.
