5/9/07 - Our lil' miss Jessie is doing great. she has been getting two long walks every day (weather permitting) and at the end of each walk she gets off lead to play ball (boy she's fast).  we have been giving her more liberties with the house when we're out.  she has full run of the kitchen/dining room and the living room.  so far her little bit of separation anxiety has not been a problem.  she does go on the couch when we leave but if that is the only problem when we're not home we can live with that.  she is a very loving girl and loves to be with us all the time.  I have been taking her in the car as much as possible. she just looks out the back window and after a few minutes will lay down and start to doze off kinda like a young child.  her colitis issue is still a bit of concern, but her stool has been getting better over time.  when she has a solid movt. we celebrate. I have also been able to take her  off lead a few times at some local nature preserves near our house.  it is so great to see that boxer swagger. it makes me smile every time.  what great joy it is to have a beautiful boxer in our lives again (thanks to everyone involved with BAR)

4/22/07 - We are so happy with Jessie. Her first week went pretty smoothly. She hasn't destroyed anything or gotten into anything, and she doesn't have accidents in the house. She and I have been loving our morning walks together. She is also great in the car. Fred was home from work all last week, so she ran errands with him in the car and seemed to have a good time. She loves to play ball, and she and Floyd, the cat, are old friends already. I am really thrilled about that. I knew Jessie would be fine since she lived with a cat in her foster home, but I thought the cat would take longer to adjust to a new dog in the house. The only negative issue is that Jessie has has some trouble with her colitis this week, and we decided to go to the vet on Saturday. She is now taking medication and seems to be improving. Except for the colitis, she seems to be happy here. We have discovered that Jessie is a sun worshipper. Yesterday she was out in the yard all day, soaking up the sunshine, while Fred painted the house. She just followed the sun around the yard as the shadows moved.

4/14/07 - We brought Jessie home today, and she is doing really well. We took her for a long walk around the neighborhood before introducing her to the yard and the house. She walks really well on the leash and responded very quickly to corrections. She was very respectful when she met Floyd, my cat.
After we had been inside for a while after our walk, she laid down in her crate. She looked a little sad, but since Donna has warned us that she is dominant, we are being strong and not babying her  too much at first. She has already made a move for the couch but responded easily when we told her to stay off. Later this afternoon we played ball in the back yard and she raced around after the ball--she is really fast--and that seemed to cheer her up. Now she is sleeping on the floor at my feet while I write this. It is so nice to have a dog in the house again. Thank you Donna and everyone at BAR! We will be in touch in the coming days as Jessie makes her transition.

4/14/07 - Just wanted to share with you all that Jess was adopted this afternoon! I couldn't have hoped for a better match, plus I had the benefit of Kim Barnett generously sharing her knowledge with Jess's new Mom and Dad. Fortunately for me and my pack, when Kim's business brings her to Long Island and she needs a stay-over, she's always welcome to my guest bedroom, so she has spent a lot of time being
around Jessie. I always welcome a visit from Kim, as I learn something every time. Today was no exception. I was very happy that she thought this was a great match for Jess. The most exciting thing
about Jessie's new life, is that the husband has enrolled in an intensive 6 week course for training K-9 Search and Rescue and you can bring your own dog if you choose...so guess where our little miss
Jess will be going in Sept...off to training with her Dad at the Academy in Ohio!!! Talk about bonding and establishing leadership...OMG...I believe she will thrive. I've already got visions of her little agile body and her sniffy nose on a pile of rubble. I think she's already one rung up on the ladder...her persistent barking in the back yard last week made me go see what she was barking at. She was barking at the limp, blue and not breathing body of my boy Spanky! I fostered her as a pup, she was returned to rescue and me, her original foster home. They say things happen for a reason, even though you may not understand why at the time. I say, it was to save Spanky and I also say the reason I've had her since July was to find the perfect, perfect environment for her and I do believe we accomplished that today :) Donna

4/13/07 - Jessie is pending adoption

4/4/07 - Jessie's tummy problems have really improved. She has been fairly stable for months now, so I have been gradually adding some foods with some calories. She is no longer on the prescription food from the vet and is on a low residue kibble. I think I am beginning to see a slight weight gain. It's hard to tell when you see them everyday, but a few friends that have stopped by have mentioned that she looks like she has gained weight. So, I will continue to try different foods that she can tolerate. It's good to know that if she has a flair-up, the vet food will stabilize her quickly. Her favorite treat is a marrow bone that I have stuffed with a very ripe banana and frozen. Yummy! Meanwhile, everyone that meets her just falls in love with her cuteness and petite size, so much so, that before I knew it, she had elevated herself to "Princess" status. Not a good thing for a dominant girlie. My fault for getting too comfortable with her good behavior and missing the subtle signs. So, she is in the process of being "dethroned" :))) as I've been "marking" my territory again, and boy , does she notice it! I would say her health issues are very manageable. She's such a happy girl and really deserves her own forever home and family. I know her journey has been a long one if you have followed hers. She is so, so deserving. Do you have room in your heart and home for Jessie? She's been so patient.;))

2/20/07 - The second opinion we received was to de-worm Jessie. Looking back on her records, she hadn't been de-wormed since she was a puppy. Although her stool samples all came back negative, it seems that the whip worm is a very tricky kind of worm. It can present false negative results as many as 20 times in a row on stool samples. We completed the first round of medicine. There is a repeat of the medicine 3 weeks later, which we started on Sunday, and then again in 3 months. Whip worm infestation can present itself with the same signs and symptoms as colitis, so this process of elimination takes time. I will introduce plain boiled potato in a few days after we complete treatment and see how she does. We want to introduce something she can tolerate that has some calories

Some great news, is that she hasn't needed any medication for her ankle. She hasn't held her leg up or limped since the end of October. One can barely tell the difference between the two ankles. I really thought she might show some problems with all this bitter weather we've been having, but nothing! Also, I would say her anxiety is virtually gone. She doesn't even pull the newspaper from the crock anymore. The only hard thing I'm still having a problem with is her pawing at the window when I pull in the driveway and jumping up at the gate as I enter. I'm doing the 5 minute ignore (or however long it takes) for her to calm herself before she gets acknowledgement. I feel that Jessie would need another dog for companionship and a family with strong leadership and a willingness to "see her through". There is always a transition period, and certain behaviors may re-appear temporarily. Jessie came back into rescue with behavioral and medical issues. She really does want to please and gives back so much love. Jessie has proven to me that she is a great dog and has overcome so much. She has the right "stuff" going on for you...........are you the family that has the right "stuff" going on for her? :-))

1/11/07 - Presently, it's been decided to get a second opinion on Jessie's diagnosis. We were so happy that her stool had firmed up on the new food that had some calories, but unfortunately that didn't last long. We've been back on the WD prescription diet again and her stools are for the most part normal. She's being fed 3 times a day, as this food has very low calories. She has lost more weight on this diet, but most importantly for now, it has controlled the diarrhea. She no longer has blood and rarely mucous. But we still need to find out what her intolerance is so she can gain some weight. As thin as she is, her coat is as shiny and soft as can be. Her teeth and nails are great too. The only negative sign she displays is being cold at times. She loves to be snuggled up in a blanket or on the dog beds by the radiator. She doesn't have any fat to keep her warm. But on the other hand, do you know any Boxer that doesn't love to be cozy??! She just hogs the front of the fireplace! My guys kind of pace around her waiting for their turn in front! She also has a lot of energy and plays like a typical Boxer and still loves her walks. I just discovered a huge fenced in tennis court (7 courts) that's fairly close to me. OMG, you should see this girl fly! She just loves it there!
So I hope all you Jessie fans are still hanging in there with us while the Doctors iron out her problems. I'm sure you all are wondering what has happened to her pictures.......Jean, who does such a wonderful job for BAR with the website is experiencing a problem with certain of our babies pages. I have some really great shots of her, but they are not able to be posted at this time. Trust me when I say that she is just cute as ever and her little moosch face is irresistible!

12/17/06 - I was hoping to have some "concrete" news to report on Jess's tummy problems that we have been working on. She had a 3 way fecal done. It came back negative on worm, parasite, but a low positive on bacteria. So she is back on antibiotic again. Also, a pancreas level was done, which came back fine. So now we want to get her to gain some weight. The Dr. put her on prescription food to firm her up, which it did, but the problem with that food, is that it is very low calorie. She was stabilized on that, so it was time to try a prescription food with some "beef" in it so to speak. She is now on Venison and potato. We did the 50/50 switch over and had some problems, but after a few days on it, she actually had "terds"!! I don't mean to be insensitive, but dealing with a dog suffering from colitis (inflammation of the bowels) this is a HUGE milestone for her! Colitis can be caused by allergy, so we're really hoping this food will continue to work for her and allow her to gain some weight. She's being fed 3-4 times a day now. The food is offered for lunch time now, which she is now eating.
Now for the fun stuff...Jess continues to be the cutest, smallest moosch I've ever known. She loves to play, cuddle, and go for her walks. She loves her walks. We start out with the collar, and she just about slams her butt to the floor before I put it on. She remains sitting while I put on the leash, and then slams her butt down to a sit at the back door and will remain seated until I invite her to heel. We proceed in a controlled walk until we get to the "goat path" where she is free to sniff and explore. OMG, one would think she was a scent hound or a boar rooting up truffle........she loves sniffing! This weather has been very mild, but we did have a few cold snaps, so I pulled my first Boxer's puppy coat out of the archives (has to be 20 years old) and it fit Jess perfect. She loves it. She needs an extra layer on until she gains some weight.
Jessie is a very loving girl and I'm amazed at her on a daily basis. She's been through a lot. We celebrated her 2nd birthday on Dec. 13th. We didn't go too crazy, cause Christmas is just around the corner.  Wish us luck with the new diet!

11/24/06 - Jessie continues to do very well here. We are still addressing her colitis problem. She finished up her baytril therapy, which stopped the blood and mucous. Her stool still was not normal.  She went on tylan for a week, which helped a bit. But she still is not gaining weight. While what's being decided with the vet the next course of action, I've switched her over to a diet that has high digestive enzyme. She's been on it for 5 days and her stool is well formed now. So hopefully, I will see her put on some weight. She has a healthy appetite (much more so than when she first came here), and is now finishing her meals. She makes a bee-line to her spot for her after breakfast and dinner treats. She's so funny...me first, me first, I got in my spot first!!!
Jessie and my boys had a great Thanksgiving despite the nasty weather. They were full of themselves, and I was lucky to force them out for potty in between rain and very gusty winds. Thankfully, the turkey was ready and the fire coal bed was primed just in time. Thirty minutes later, I had 3 very sleepy, content Boxer babies toasty by the fire. It's amazing the effect a few pieces of turkey can have on the nervous system! Ahhhh yes..............life is good!

11/4/06 - Jessie continues to do very well back at our home. She has recovered from her surgery, but will probably suffer from arthritis periodically. She does respond to medication, but seeing that it can be disruptive to the stomach, I've used it sparingly. Her colitis is improving and the baytril therapy seems to be helping. I am disappointed that she hasn't gained any weight yet, but we will continue to work on that, as well as my pack leadership with her. It appears that she does need consistent leadership to solidify her position within the pack. She does seek guidance and approval and craves attention, however, if you give the inch, she will take the mile! She's testing the waters and  trying to find her spot within the pack. As I've said before, I've had no problems with her , but she does have a pushy side to her that I stay on top of. It doesn't matter that I have two other Boxers and you may have one or none, she is a girl that needs to know there is a pack leader to keep her balanced and in a calm state of mind. Her separation anxiety has virtually disappeared, she's beautiful on a walk and very obedient. We just love having her back, so "ya'll just take your sweet time" getting your apps. in on this "soft soul", cause we are thrilled to have her back...come on...I know you're jealous I still have her! :-))!

10/29/06 - Jessie is back at "Boxers by the Bay", her original foster home. It seems we may have misjudged her needs in placing her in her forever home. Stephanie and her family came to the heartbreaking decision not to adopt her. As much as Jessie loves children, it appears that the activity level may have been overwhelming for Jess. Stephanie and her family really stepped up to care for her throughout her surgery, recovery and a serious bout of colitis. They were very devoted to her.
Now that Jessie is getting back on the right track medically, I will be working on getting some weight back on her, and seriously observing her behaviors. Our former trainer, Kim has generously offered to walk me through.
As things stand now, Jess came back here with out skipping a beat. Both my boys welcomed her and she found her place once again and seems quite content......a little bored, perhaps, (the weather has been vicious) but content. At this time, I'm thinking a great home for her (other than mine :)))!!!) would be an active couple (or single) with no children and a male fur kid. Definitely a 6ft. fenced yard, puppy proofed home and not crated for any length of time. She's had no anxiety or destruction since she's been back and never an accident potty-wise. She will require a strong pack leader and will need to know her order in the pack, hopefully with a Boxer savvy person. She's extremely obedient and always looks for approval, but can be over exuberant at times.........hey, she's a young Boxer and has been bounced around a lot in her young life. She's been a dream for me. She just needs the perfect blend of leadership and lifestyle. If you can fulfill her needs, trust me, you will not be disappointed...there's something about this girl that will just steal your heart, as she has stolen mine!

10/9/06 - I just wanted to let you know that Jessie went for surgery today.  Thankfully her injury is not what the doctor expected and she should be fine (some arthritis issues, but not too bad). He feels it is an old injury that was never treated, but there was no bone fragment as he suspected.   I should be able to bring her home tomorrow.  We miss our sweet girl, the house feel empty without her, (with 3 kids & 2 other boxers...imagine that!!!)

10/6/06 - Well, we have a lot of news to share. As you may know, from my previous update, Jessie went to "camp", a temporary foster home, and is as happy as she could be with a stay at home Mom, 3 kids and 2 other Boxers! BAR is such a great organization that I must thank them on Jessie's page. I had a sudden health  issue with one of my dog's, Spanky. I had agreed to take in another foster as an emergency when my boy suddenly presented seizure.  Several people came forward to help me with my fosters so I could take care of Spanky. This is what rescue is all about, and why I'm very proud to be a volunteer for BAR. This organization is "stout" and help comes forward. You are never left alone.
Jessie's temporary foster home had agreed to keep her as long as I needed. Well, needless to say, they have fallen head over heels for her (Ha! big surprise...who wouldn't?!), and have requested to adopt her! They are a pre-approved family and have adopted from us in the past.  They are experienced with the recuperation period of this type of surgery, and understand the time and diligence involved in her recovery. I couldn't have hoped for a better home for this very deserving girl!

9/25/06 - Jessie is having quite the adventure this week. She has been temporarily moved to another foster home 5 minutes from me, so I could take in a new guy for one week. This family has volunteered and adopted thru BAR so she is in great hands!! I tell everyone that she went to "camp". They have 3 children and 2 other Boxers, so needless to say, she is in her element!  Stephanie has been touching base with me and things are going great. I dare say, Jess may be quite bored coming back to me!! :))

9/13/06 - Well, we are still looking for a rescue friendly vet for Jessie's needs. Thankfully, her problem is not an emergency. She still limps on occasion, but there doesn't seem to be a "rhyme or reason" that I can put my finger on. She may hop around for 5 minutes and then it's gone and may not limp for over a week.
She's starting to feel more confident about herself around here. As I've mentioned, she will go over a 3-4 foot fence, so I keep her on a leash in the front. One day, we were all out front, and I was chatting with a neighbor at the fence. I had Jessie's leash in hand and she just hopped over the fence!!! I couldn't believe her! Okay, my attention wasn't on her, as I was talking and my back was turned, but to jump the fence while I was holding the leash?! Needless to say, I need to get my pack leadership in "check" and she needs a home with a secure yard.
All in all, she's doing pretty good. She's been left up to 4 and a half hours, with only minor upset. She loves to pull the plastic bags out of the thing I stuff them in, and still pulls newspaper out of the crock on occasion. But in her defense, there are many times that nothing has been disturbed at all when I come home. She shows a lot of Boxer excitement with new people, so we are working on her manners in that regard. She just loves children, but she would do best with kids that are over 5 years old. She gets finicky about eating sometimes, so I doctor her food up with yogurt, parm, or pasta. I have to say that this is the first week that I can say she looks at a healthy weight.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention...if you are looking for a Boxer to cuddle with, this petite girl is it!! Last week's pet name was "Jessaroo" as in kangaroo for jumping the fence, but the ongoing pet name is "Gumby Girl". This girl is very cat-like. She puts herself in the oddest positions, and will contort herself to get as close as possible to you for a good snuggle. Let me tell you, that feels good! Just can't quite manage that with my 90lb'er, Spanky. And by the way, don't let her petiteness fool you...she handles herself just fine playing with JD and Spanky!

8/15/06 - For all of you following Jessie's journey, I want to report what I know so far. The orthopedic Dr. explained Jessie's situation to one of the directors and what he recommended.  In a nutshell...he says it is her ankle and not her knee. This will require more x-rays and possibly a scan to move forward. We are currently on hold as an effort to confer with a more "rescue friendly" Vet. in NJ is consulted.
If, and I'm only saying "if" she requires surgery (there could be a bone fragment irritating the ankle), she will be transported from Long Island to NJ and hopefully back to us for her recovery. I just want to let everyone know that BAR's little Jess is doing just great! She loves her walks, eating like a champ, snuggles and gives kisses, continues to be very obedient and her "cuteness" melts my heart at least 10 times a day! So hang in there with us and I'll let you all know what's going on as soon as I do!! I'll continue to try and improve my camera skills in the meantime!!

8/12/06 - Just want to let everyone know that we went to the Orthopedic surgeon on Thurs.  She rides so beautifully in the car and was very well behaved in the waiting room, and laid down and crossed her legs as usual. Perfect lady. All the attendants commented  on her cuteness.........crossed legs, ears flipped back in her favorite "hair-do", and her confidence being comfortable with her outfit. She's very comfortable in her "own skin" She kept her cool waaay better than me. When you get to this level of evaluation with a specialist, one may see very severe cases in the waiting room. It was disturbing for me, but knowing that they were all being helped and on the road to recovery made me feel better. Thankfully, Jess does not appear to be in a severe category.  The Dr. felt it was her
ankle and not her knee, and yes, when he pointed out the swelling in her ankle, I could visibly see it.

So, we will await a determination for this "gumby" girl. She's so flexible. She's now eating almost 5 cups a day. I think she may have gained a lb. or 2. She continues to be a great girl, is used to the cat now, and gets very happy when she sees children. Walks beautiful on the leash, plays great with my boxers and loves to snuggle. Once we have medical clearance, I would hope for a home with children over five, another fur kid to interact with, a family with strong leadership and include her in their lives. She still does not like the crate door closed, so would not do well in a home left alone for over 4 hours (?) She does not chew furniture or woodwork, but may pull out a book or two or papers from the recycle crock. Quite frankly, I don't put away the newspapers. If she needs to release anxiety, let it be that. The last 3 times that she has been left for over 3 hours, she has not touched a thing.

I still haven't been able to get a picture of her that shows her personality. So I will send along the silly ones of her in her "adopt me" vest anyway. You should enjoy the one with her teeth and the "take this thing off of me" look!!!

8/2/06 - Just a quick update on little Jessie girl, I know I'm overdue, but was waiting for medical news to report and where we are going from here. Her x-rays were sent out to a radiologist for consultation. The vet suspected ACL perhaps, but came back as a luxating patella, which I believe (don't quote me on this, now) is a reoccurring knee injury, most likely caused from inappropriate care given during her recovery period from the first incident over a year ago.
We will be going to see the orthopedic surgeon for his opinion. She does not appear to be in any discomfort at this time, and continues to be a very happy girl!
We've had a couple of incidences this week when I've left her. I was gone for 3 and a half hours. Some books were tossed and chewed (they were at ground level) and some stuffing was pulled out of one of the bedding in a crate. I would most likely think that she did the book thing, but I question my JD if he didn't do the bedding, as that has been his trademark on occasion, and those two instigate each other. Hard to tell who did what, when you have three, but Spanky has never disturbed anything that I'm aware of. I would love to have a "Boxer cam" just to see who's doing what while I'm away. I'm sure it would be quite entertaining!!!
I've had her in the front yard the last week or so, while I'm out there with them. I have a picket fence, and it is lower on one side, and sure enough, she finally decided to go over it when the neighbors let their dog out! She responded to my call and came right back. She's very obedient, but will need to be in a secure yard, unless you are with her. She just wanted to investigate the new guy, but it could have been a very dangerous situation.Needless to say, she will not be out front unless a leash is attached. Her demeanor goes down a notch or two with the leash on.
The heat here has been relentless, so we are not doing our walks as we should. I had an experience with Spanky and the heat last month that snapped my head around, and will not take a chance walking 3 dogs alone. Thankfully, my Mother was with me at the time, and stayed with him while I ran home to get the car. Please take note from my experience, if it is hot and humid (this was early in the morning) this breed can not take it.
I wanted to share this to help others, but my point was, that I feel Jess's behavior in the house
was due to not getting proper exercise and walks due to the heat.
On the funny side, I have to let you know how her ears are inside out ALOT!!! Don't know why, but it's so cute. She looks at you, like what's so funny? I'm like saying to myself, "it's your hairdo, honey"!!! A Chignon?!!! And, I swear, she's double-jointed...she'll curl up, nose to tail and then turn back her outer front leg twisted back behind her, next to her butt, where her shoulder looks like it came out of her sockett.......just as comfortable as can be! Made my back hurt just looking at her! :)

7/24/06 - Thanks for checking back in on little Jess. We are going into our second week here at "Boxer's by the Bay". This is still the "honeymoon" period, and I have to say, I'm still waiting for the other "shoe to drop"!! I don't ever think it's going to happen. Thanks to Kim, BAR's foster mentor/trainer and her ever constant support, I was prepared to take in a dog that was surrendered for anxiety, destructiveness, etc. Kim has helped me build my confidence as a pack leader as well.
I was given an opportunity to take in Jessie and show her leadership. She was brought into a new pack in which it was not her job to lead, but follow. I firmly believe this is the reason she has not exhibited any anxiety or destructiveness. She is a calm, happy dog and very responsive. It's all about leadership. Very few dogs are born to be pack leader, but may take on the job if one is not present. Behavioral problems may result. A leader steps forward and relieves them of the responsibility and the problems melt away. I am now leaving her more frequently and for longer periods. There have been no problems what so ever. I do not crate her. She continues to use the crate for naps and will rotate amongst my boys crate, as they all do, but does not like the door shut. So I've left her out when I leave. No accidents, no destruction (secretly, I "know" she goes on the couch while I'm gone cause the pillows are messed up) but that's it so far. She even woke me up last night to go potty. I told her to go back to bed, but she was very insistent. Sure enough, she really had to go. "Good girl"!! She's so smart. As I've mentioned, she's been known to jump/climb a 4 ft. fence. This week I walked my big guy first and was coming back to walk Jess and JD. I didn't close the front door tight and when Spanky and I returned, JD was up at the fence looking for us (he blasted thru the screen, and Jess followed). My heart was in my throat that Jess went over my front fence which is less than 4 ft., and there she was, just laying in the grass, while my little "nut job" JD was chomping at the bit for his turn on the walk. Talk about relief and being so impressed with this girl, I can't say enough. We took a ride to Gary's (one of the directors) for her special food, not that she needs it...her stool has been fine (other than one episode) and she eats like a champ. She was so great in the car and met Romeo, one of FOB's fosters.

7/21/06 - Jessie and I were off to the vet today. She is so good in the car, just lays down and does not attempt to get in the front seat. She was just as well behaved in the waiting room...no pulling, no jumping, just sat there by my side, laid down and calmly crossed her front legs like the perfect lady, and a look on her face as if to say, "alright, I already know I'm cute...tell me something I don't know"!!! People were astounded to learn that she had been returned to rescue. She made quite an impact on everyone she encountered. She is now UTD on all her shots and then some. Thankfully her fecal and heartworm were negative, so we've started her right up on protection.
The Dr. had concerns about her lameness in her right hind leg. Her previous medical records showed an injury from 4/05 and then again in 5/06. The owners said she would jump the fence. Seeing that she was not x-rayed on the previous injuries, he felt it would be prudent to so at this time. So we will wait to see what the experts have to say. She does get along just fine and romps and plays, but limps when she first gets up. So let's all keep our fingers crossed for our "little Jess", she's so deserving. Hope you all enjoyed the new pictures. It's so hard to get a good shot. She looks so serious, or is camera shy with her head turned. Trust me, she is cute as a button and I'll keep trying to capture her personality! Check back in soon!

7/18/06 - Jessie is doing so great! I am saying with caution, that I have not seen any unmanageable display
of behavior for which she was returned to BAR (separation anxiety, destructiveness, pulling on the leash and poor eating.) I say with caution, as I do work at home, so she has not been left alone for any length of time.
She was left for an hour today uncrated and was a perfect girl. Nothing was out of place. She's not crazy about the crate if you close the door, yet she will seek it out for nap time. She's quite calm, and gets along great with my 2 Boxer boys.
She's absolutely beautiful on the leash and loves meeting new people. She was wonderful with 2 children she met (6 and 8 years old). She's eating a healthy 2 cups twice a day and eating it with out picking at it for hours. So hopefully she will gain some much needed weight very soon. We will be off to the vet this week, as she arrived over due on her shots and not on flea or heartworm protection. Also a fecal and another look at her right hind leg, as she will limp after she first gets up from laying down, evidently from a leap over a 4 foot fence. So we will get her all checked out. I must say she is the sweetest Boxer girl, absolutely the easiest Foster I've had (maybe she has a memory of living here from when I first fostered her!?) and her underbite cracks me up! So if you ever had an application in on Jessie, and still have room in your home and heart, this is a second chance for you to share your life and love with her.  She's been moved around a lot in her short
life and deserves a forever family, forever this time.

7/14/06 - For those of you who remember Jessie the pup from over a year ago...BAR was flooded with apps. She was returned to rescue today. She was returned because she has separation anxiety and a handful in general. She's been here 2 hours and has been very well behaved, and still as cute as ever!!!  She still has a smooch face and a beautiful dark red coat. She is under weight and is reported to suffer from colitis. It was also reported that she was not good on leash, but we went on our controlled walk...after one check, she stayed either behind me or next to me. It was not a struggle at all. She's having a nice nap in the crate with no signs of anxiety when I leave the room. So we'll see how things go and update soon.

10/12/05 - We are in our sixth week of dog training, which is going good. Jessie has made friends with a poodle in her class. she is doing good at home but still has some expected puppy actions. she enjoys chewing on all the beds in the house and stealing my son's toys. her and Maggie get along good. She is getting big, she is almost the same size as Maggie even though they are 11 months apart.

6/9/05 - well its the two month update, as anyone can guess Jessie has made a wonderful addition to our family. her and maggie our other boxer get along so well, they choose to sleep together every night. since they are both girls they can have their moments, but for the most part they get along great. Jessie is doing great with our 21 month old son, she follows him where ever he goes (in hopes for a snack, I'm sure). she is doing better with potty training, we still have some accidents but there's less of them, she now sometimes even tells you that she has to go out by jumping at the door. the cyst that was growing rapidly on her back has popped and our vet says it looks good. we will be starting training soon, so hopefully she does good with that.

5/28/05 - Hi everybody! It's been a while since we last updated you on Jessie. She is doing wonderfully. She has never had the need to be crated and LOVES to play outside. Now that the warm weather is finally here she spends hours in the backyard playing usually with the dog next door. Although she can be hyper and jump...she never does anything to harm the baby. Unless of course our daughter gets in the way of a wiggle or "air spin". She has truly been a joy. Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend everyone!

5/9/05 - Well, we have good and we have bad. the good is we love jessie, she has settled in just fine making a bed for herself any where she deems fit. she is just fine with our one year old son and she loves our other dog maggie. the bad is, the first few days she was doing good with the potty training but after that she went down hill. she started going in the house when ever she had to go with no warning. now we are starting to make some progress, she will sometimes go to the door and maggie our other dog has now started to chew everything , which was something she never did. but overall we love jessie and love having her as part of our family.

4/11/05 - I know its a little early since we have only had Jessie for two days but  I thought you would like to know that she is settling in just fine. The potty training is going so good, no accidents yet. She and Maggie have decided to sleep on the same bed when their not running crazy around the yard. we will keep you up to date.

4/11/05 - Little Jess left Sat. to her forever home. What a great family! She grew so much while she was here and will always have a special place in my heart, as my previous fosters do as well. The new family called and said she is very happy, and she loves their female, Maggie. Sounds like she's settled right in. I do miss smooching on her little velvet face.

4/9/05 - Jessie has been adopted

4/6/05 - Jessie pending adoption

4/4/05 - Jessie continues to do great, and growing up so fast! Took her with me on a home check yesterday and was wonderful on the 30 minute ride. Layed down in her crate and not a peep. Seemed a little confused about where we were when we got there, but greeted everyone joyfully, especially the resident Boxer. Made herself at home, right down to the piddle in the kitchen and poop in the livingroom...on the rug of course!!
Still addressing the housetraining issue. Not quite getting the connection with going outside, but now knows she's done something wrong if she goes inside. She is not timid or shy and has a very high confidence level. Very loving and smart. I think obedience training would be a breeze for this girl. Really enjoys her time with my boys...she will play with them until they all drop from exhaustion one by one and she's the last one standing, with a look on her face,"oh, come on guys, one of ya get up and play some more!" Then she trots off to find a good toy to beat up on her own and is out cold in 5 seconds. Warning to a forever home...cancel your cable, you won't be needing it...Jess is all the entertainment you'll need and then some!!

3/29/05 - We have received many applications for Jessie and are not accepting any further applications.  Thank you.

3/26/05 - Just a quick update to let you know that Jessie had her second puppy shots on Friday and was wonderful on the car ride. Everyone at the vet's office fell in love with her. She was full of Boxer wiggles and enough love to go around. I usually worry about Boxer slobber getting on everyone else, but in this case, I was worried about people slobber getting on her!! They were soooo drooling over her!!!! She's gained 5 lbs. and the Vet is very pleased with her weight. Not fat, not skinny...just right. She's eating 1 cup, 3x's a day. More pooping, but she just burns it all off and growing so fast. She's much taller too. Oh, the life of a pup.
I'm glad she's got my boys to play with, just don't think I could wear her out on my own! AND if one more person says to me..."how could you give her up? You should keep her!"...I just might! JUST kidding!!! I rest assured that BAR with their infinate knowledge will find the perfect match for this gift "TO" the universe, cause that's what JD(Kobe) has been to me!

3/23/05 - I think I'm a few days late on my update...honestly, I didn't think I would need an update!....thought this stunning representative of the breed would have been snatched up by now!!! This girl leaves me speechless! What can I say?!? She's 100% Boxer, which includes her intelligence, loves other dogs (what puppy doesn't?, but getting a good education on how to be social with my 3 Boxers and learning the hierarchy within the pack)
It's fun watching her trying to claim her spot! It's been quite a while since I've had to potty train a pup, but I've found, if I take her on the leash to the same spot, she goes right away. She needs time to run around a bit before she poops. Has had a few pee's in the crate, but only if I've been gone for a while, but holds it all night long. I think she's almost getting the connection that potty time is outside! I guess the one thing I do want to say is if you've never had a "Boxer" puppy, or have been "waiting" for one, don't miss out on this girl. Forget about the potty accidents that may happen, it's all part of puppyhood, but to miss out on the love, joy ,laughter and simple astoundment of experiencing a Boxer pup discovering the world and their "Boxerness" just once in your life, would be a chance missed that can change your life! I'm so grateful to foster her...don't care about the pee or TV!!! I'm too busy experiencing "Jessie"! As I write this, she is ruffing it up Boxer style with JD (Kobe-deaf) in my sewing studio, and she keeps stepping on the pedal that makes the sewing machine go into action, doesn't phase her one bit, and of course, JD can't hear it! Well, now she's worn out JD and has gone in the livingroom to pick on Spanky! Gotta love it!
Don't be intimidated by her exceptional European breeding, or how she just naturally poses like a show dog, or by the best "bite" (and I don't mean on your hand!) that I've ever run across, put you off! Oh, and did I mention, her exquisite beauty and "sound" personality?!! What ever forever home Jessie goes to will be so "LUCKY"! Hurry up, I mean it...I'm falling in love, come get this gift from the powers that be, once again, I am grateful to have this time with Miss Jess.

3/17/05 - Potty training continues to do well. Loves playing with the big guys. Fearless...good Boxer trait...although, some what independent at times, especially outside...would rather sit in the leaves than play. Loves playing inside, but runs over to me if the boys are getting ruff with each other. Gets her reassurance from me and joins right back in. Such a sweet personality and very calm, but then again, I've only had male puppers, so don't know if it's a female Boxer thing. I hope she goes to a family where she will not spend hours on end in a crate. According to her papers, and history, in her short 13 weeks on this earth, she's pretty much been crated. Very smart, seems to know her name now, also, "no" and "quiet" also "sit". LOVES her food! Very good in the crate. Just wants to be part of it all! Crates herself when she's tired. Quick!!! I'm getting attached to this lover!

3/12/05 - Hey Everyone...I would like to announce the arrival of a cute as a button...13.4 lbs.... 12 week old...lil' smoosh head! Our newest BAR Foster ...Jessie. I picked her up today from her owner, who with a very broken heart placed her into my arms. I assured her she was placing Jessie in good hands. She has such acute little face ..how sweet. I know she isn't going to be here for long...*pouty face... Debby
