7/30/07 - Hi everyone, just wanted to let you guys know that Joey is doing GREAT!  I love having him.  He's gaining some weight and starting to fill in a bit. He's up to 53 lbs now. :)
We're still working on the whole barking thing, but he's a dog and dogs bark, so I really have no complaints.  He's a sweetheart, and I'm so happy he found us! ;)

7/25/07 - Hi everyone, just wanted to give a quick update on Joey! :)  lets see.... HE'S GREAT!! I brought him to my vet for a wellness exam & his heartworm medicine.  The vet was amazed that he was from a rescue. He said he's such a sweet, charming little dog & I must say I AGREE!  He barks a lot, but what dog doesn't bark?!  I'll take the barking any day with the amount of happiness Joey brings me!
He's such a funny dog.  Also, he's now 52lbs, :) Yes, I'm trying to bulk him up so his ribs don't show, and it's working a bit.  He gets a ton of exercise, so it's kind of hard to get him to really gain weight, but so far so good.  All in all, Joey is doing great!

6/18/07 - Well, Joe came to his forever home Saturday, he did great on the car ride home.  He really is a sweetheart.  He and Bailey (our 2yr old MinPin) are still trying to figure out their places, and how to "play" together.  Joe is full of energy and constantly barking at Bailey, trying to engage him, but Bailey is kind of ignoring him right now.  So, Joe isn't all too happy with that.  It is funny to watch though!  Overall, Joe really is a good boy, he walks great on a leash and seems to love running his patterns in the backyard, another funny thing to watch.  We're going to get him into obedience training soon, and see if we can get to his full potential.  He's a great addition to the household!!

6/16/05 - Joe Boxer has been adopted

6/15/07 - Joe Boxer is pending adoption

5/9/07 - Joe is doing really well.  He has gained weight so you can't see his ribs anymore.  He eats so fasts that I call him Hoover. Sometimes he even chokes himself because he can't swallow his food fast enough.  He is coming along with the house breaking, he either rings the bell to let me know he has to go out or he jumps up on the door, but sometimes I miss the hint and we have an accident in the house.  I guess I'm not coming along with my training fast enough for Joe.  He gets along with my boxer Deuce very well, they run and play and wrestle all day, then they fall asleep next to each other on the floor or bed.  The only thing I'm not making progress with is the barking.  He doesn't like the crate.  He doesn't like it when I'm home or when I go to work.  I think I've done everything you can do but I guess it will take time.

4/15/07 - I picked Joe Boxer up from my Vet on Wed. April 4, he had treated Joe as a 3 month old pup with a bad case of pneumonia.  A pet shop brought Joe to him for treatment and didn't want him back.  I was going to take him then, when a client of the Vet, who had just put her dog to sleep wanted him.  After a few months the woman brought Joe back complaining he wasn't housebreaking fast enough and that he was chewing her house up.  He has spent most of his life in a crate, with only the attention of my Vet's staff.  They told me he was a nice dog but needed a strong owner.  I think he picked up some bad habits at the woman's house, probably because he was alone alot.  He barks for attention, and we are working on the housebreaking.  He is very smart and has learned from watching my dog Deuce that you ring the bell on the door knob when you have to go out.  So, only a few accidents, none in the crate, but he doesn't like being in the crate and barks till you let him out and for some time when I leave for work.  We are working on that too.
He was a little skinny when he came to me but he eats very well and should gain weigh and grow fast.  He has a nice temperament but sometimes doesn't like his back paws or hind end touched, he might nibble on you.  He likes to play with Deuce, they seem to get along, but sometimes boys can be rough.  He seemed to like all the other dogs and cats and the vet's office.  I took him on Thursday to see what was going on with his skin and to have his stitches removed from the neutering.  I was pretty sure on Wed. when I came home from work and he had a big gash on his nose, that it wasn't mange but him trying to escape from the crate.  He knows the sit and come commands and I can't believe he doesn't know how to give paw !  He likes people, he usually wants to climb on their laps and lick their faces.  He sleeps pretty good at night ( that's if he is on a dog bed in the room with you) and if he gets up he let's me know he has to go out.  He needs training  walking on the leash but he's still young.

4/10/07 - Joe has a vet appointment on the 12th as he has a rash on his face.  Could be dermatitis or something more serious like mange so we need to have it looked at.

4/4/07 - Joe Boxer is a 6 month old puppy my vet and his staff are taking care of.  He came from a pet shop sick at 3 months old and my vet treated him, then when the shop didn't want the puppy back, my vet gave him to a client who had just put her dog to sleep.  Now he's back at the vet's. The staff tells me he chews a lot because of separation issues and that he is not really housebroken (he has accidents in the crate).  They also say he has a very nice temperament. I spent a little time with him on 3 different occasions, he seems friendly, not aggressive, he comes when called, he knows the sit command but stay is going to take some work.  All in all he is a typical boxer puppy.  He just needs some attention, a regular routine and discipline.  His name is Joe, Joe Boxer.
