4/11/07 - Snoop has
been with us for 5 days now, and it feels as if he has been with us for
his whole life! He has adjusted well to our routine, and gets along
wonderfully with our other Boxer boy of the same age. Neither one of
them acts like they are "seniors", and after they play, they take nice
long naps, sometimes together all curled up on one bed! I think our
other Boxer, Cain is very glad to have a furry friend back in his pack.
Snoop is still very thin, but he is eating like a champ, and we hope to
see some weight gain very soon. He was a bit crazy on the leash at
first, but we use the Cesar Millan (and others) style of walking with
the collar behind the ears, and him next to us. He caught right on, and
needs very few reminders to "heel" while on our daily walks together as
a pack.
Snoop is one of the sweetest, and most well-behaved dogs we have ever
met. If anyone out there reading this has ever considered adopting a
senior, please know that it is a wonderful experience! He is already
fully trained, respectful, and is a stable, calm, loving dog. The
transition to having a new family member in the house could not have
been easier! Thank you, BAR, and Snoop's foster mommy,
Carrie for connecting us with our new boy- we love him!
4/10/07 - Snoop went to his forever home this weekend! Although this
couple was interested in Snoop to begin with we took Snoop for their
home visit and I am sure that is when they feel in love with him. His
new parents are very knowledgeable boxer owners and have a very playful
8 year old. They were a little concerned how their boy would do as they
say it sometimes takes him awhile to warm up to new dogs but he seemed
really good with Snoop almost right away. We walked in the rain for a
while and then did slow intro's. The next morning I had an e-mail
telling me how much they wanted Snoop. I am happy to report that Cain
and Snoop are getting along great. Snoop is going to enjoy his
retirement in the best place for him with really great parents and a
cool fur brother. He will never hear the words......."It was just time"
ever again.
4/5/07 - Snoop
is pending adoption
4/4/07 - Snoop dog continues to do
very well here and no one can believe he is 8 years old. He clearly
enjoys the occasional tear around the yard and literally jumps onto the
back porch never touching the stairs when you open the door for him to
come in. The only thing that gives him away is his gray muzzle. He is
really enjoying his time here and he is a joy to have except when he is
kitty hunting. Everyone once in awhile he gets up to go looking for her.
Snoop needs continued training on the leash he just gets super excited
to meet anyone and anything in his path. For 8 he is strong and he even
likes to run (something I don't do).
We had my daughters 5th birthday on Sunday and our house was
full to the rafters with adults and children of all ages. Snoop was
super and everyone wanted to take him home.
Snoop will continued to be a welcomed pack member in my house till the
perfect forever family comes along. Don't let his age or his graying
muzzle be the reason he gets passed by. He is all boxer and has a great
boxer personality. He even speaks back when you speak dog
3/25/07 - Snoop went in for a
wellness visit and over all is in decent shape. He is pretty skinny at
46 pounds which is weird to me considering he was an owner surrender. He
is not a large boxer and would probably look great with 10 pounds on
him.
I really wish I had something exciting to tell you but I don't. Snoop is
a great older dog who just finds himself needing a place to enjoy
retirement. He is a good boy and causes no problems. He is really happy
hanging out here and enjoying what my family has to offer.
His favorite place to hang out is in the living room on the dog bed. He
also really enjoys the company of the kids and will hang out in the
playroom with them. Last night in fact my son had a friend sleep over
and Snoop spent the whole night hanging out with them in the playroom
while they were playing video games. He just happily takes up an empty
spot on the floor.
I know we will find the perfect home for Snoop it may take a little
longer because he is older but hopefully there are people out there just
waiting to come upon a great older guy like Snoop.
3/21/07 - Snoop continues to do
very well here. My house is very quiet except when Snoop is snoring but
we are really enjoying the dogs just hanging out. This is not to say
Snoop is a lazy bum he does like to play just not as much as dogs
younger then him. This makes my Maddie very happy. Marco is even happy.
I love watching Snoop play with Marco because his style is so different.
Having Willy here if you remember they would box but Snoop is more into
the duck and cover. Marco will punch him trying to egg him on and Snoop
does the duck and cover. Marco is unsure what to make of this behavior.
Snoop is not a counter surfer, garbage grabber, beggar nor does he sit
on the furniture. He is good at dinner time and even though he may mill
around the table when we first sit down he does lay down. If food gets
dropped on the floor he will gladly clean it up but not while you are
eating.
Snoop does let Marco know if he has had enough he gives him a pretty
loud warning. Snoop doesn't bark the only time really is when he wants
to come in from outside.
No cats for Snoop. He tried to bite mine when he saw her going through
the cat door. However he does not make it his mission to find her. I am
a little wary of what he would do if he got a hold of her though.
Snoop has already had his first walk over to school to get my son. He
was very well behaved and enjoyed seeing everyone. He did try to take a
ride on the school bus though ☺ Snoop could use some work on the leash
for 8 he is really strong and pulls and forget it when we were walking
back from school and the boys started running he started running too.
One of these days my fosters will realize I am not a runner.
3/17/07 - OK folks you know it's
coming Snoop Doggie Dog has arrived here in upstate NY thanks to many
volunteers that helped get him and Penny Pancake out of the shelter and
into some nice warm loving foster homes.
Snoop is an older gentleman that needs a place to enjoy retirement he
feels ”it is time” to live the high life. The only thing that shows his
age is his gray muzzle because let me tell ya this guy has the energy of
a much younger dog. Right now he is resting on the floor snoring away
but he has been enjoying play time with his new foster brother Marco.
Snoop was an owner surrender to a shelter there was no real explanation
given besides “it is time” Well, time for what a coffee break, a new job
I don't know but what an odd answer for giving up your dog that is a new
one for me.
Snoop has been great from the moment he arrived. Went right into the
crate for my 8 year old with no problems when we had to step out. No
accidents in the house or crate. No nervous behavior. Just an all around
great older guy.
I know there are a lot of people out there that have a soft spot for
seniors and let me tell ya this boy is a gem.
I hope to get some really cute pictures of him because he is a cute
little guy. We will also get him in for a wellness check.
Check back often on this guy.
