5/26/07 - Sugar is doing just great!  She is probably one of the smartest dogs that we have ever had.  The only issues that we have is allergies and a possible back problem.  We are going to work with the vet on these things to see if we can pinpoint what is going on.  I think the allergies are environmental and should clear up after pollen season calms down.  We suspect a back issue because she occasionally licks her side just forward of her hips.
This is the second time for us fostering a dog, then adopting it.  It is so difficult to think of giving them up after they have spent some time in your home, especially when they are a sweet as sugar is.  Her name fits her well.

5/07 - Sugar has been adopted

5/9/07 - Sugar is pending adoption

4/30/07 - Sugar has been one of the sweetest and smartest dogs we have had so far.  Her name suits her very well.  We have only had a few things to correct her on, and she learns quick with just a verbal correction.  I have had her on a long lead in the yard because I am afraid that she will see something of interest and leave the yard.  She is fine outside, but if she sees the kids or the puppy next door, temptation becomes too great and she wants to go explore.  Sugar seems to be having a little discomfort in her hind quarters.  I don't know if it is from too much exercise or something else.  I don't think it is anything to worry about right now, but we are going to keep an eye on her.  We are going to try some short time medications to see if it helps.  It may just be a passing problem that she has.  Sugar has been on her best behavior the past few days.  I think she wants us to adopt her.

4/22/07 - Sugar is doing just fine after spending her first week with us.  She has been a wonderful foster dog, but her cute face and personality makes you want to spoil her.  She has gotten "couch Privileges" as you can see in the recent picture.  My wife and I were going to keep her off the furniture but Sugar has a way of  getting into your heart and getting her way.  Her trip to the vet earlier this week went well.  The only thing they found was a case of Giardia which we are treating with a weeks worth of pills.  This showed up in her fecal test.  Her appetite is very good and hopefully she will gain a few pounds.  Sugar likes to spend time in the kitchen when my wife is cooking.  Sugar met the young 4 month old yellow lab that lives next door today.  They both got along fine during the first introduction so we plan to arrange a play date in the near future.  We have a week to make our final decision on adoption.  I really think she is going to stay with us.

From Sugar's Connecticut FTA home,  4/15/07 - After a long ride yesterday, my wife and I finally got Sugar home to her Foster-to-Adopt home here in Connecticut.  Sugar is one of the sweetest and smartest dogs we have seen in a long time.  She follows us around and always seems to want to please us.  Sugar is completely housebroken and even knows the door to stand by when she wants to go out.  It is my guess that she lost some weight in the shelter, because she is very thin.  She could stand to gain about 4 or 5 pounds to fill out nicely.  Sugar is a very petite boxer, one of the smallest I have ever seen for 3 years old.  I would guess that she is less than 40 pounds, but we will find out exactly what she weighs at the vets.  She loves to play and is very gentile when she does.  Sugar is definitely working her way into our hearts in a very short time.

4/13/07 - Sugar certainly is one sweet girl!  She has been here since this afternoon, and has been no trouble at all. She has been great with my 3 kids and they can not stop laughing at how cute she is with her big under bite.  The best is when her tongue sticks through it!
After a real nice bath, I did intros with my girl Nikkie and my foster boy Mugsy.  She immediately took to Mugsy.  They gave each other a few kisses, and that was that.  From that point on it was like they had known each other for years.  Introducing Sugar to Nikkie took a little longer, but again went very well.  All three of these white babies are sleeping right here by me on the floor together.
When she hears a noise though, boy does she take off...and with a bark that means business!  She is down the stairs and investigating before the other two even get off the floor.   I took Sugar for a walk today when introducing the dogs, she does need some lead training, but she responded nicely to correction...she also needs a refresher in basic obedience and commands.  My guess is that she is a girl that wants to please and will learn real quick.  Tomorrow her stay here will end as she will be transported to her foster home, we wish this cute little girl the best of luck!

From the Shelter - This is Sugar.  She is 3 years old, spayed, great with kids, other dogs, housebroken, knows commands.
