6/21/08 - Angel is on her
way to her new home. We met her adoptive mom & dad at a state park in
Pennsylvania and Angel seemed to like them right away. She will have a
home with 2 boxer brothers and a lot more activity than she had at my
house. It was very difficult to say goodbye to her because we had
become quite attached to each other. She was my gardening buddy and I
will miss her. At least I know she will have a wonderful new home and
lots of love and attention.
6/9/08 - Angel is pending adoption
6/3/08 - Angel has had
a busy 2 weeks and has become more comfortable here. Memorial
weekend we spent 3 days at our cottage on Lake Ontario. My son,
his wife, their 17 month old daughter and 3 year old boxer, Candy, were
there with us. That made 4 adults, 1 toddler and 3 boxers all
sharing a fairly small space - a recipe for disaster. Somehow we
all survived and Angel behaved well. She had a few issues with
Candy but only needed a few small corrections. She was also fine
with my granddaughter. In my last update I wasn't sure Angel would
be good around small children but she will be fine. Angel tends to
very excited when first meeting new people and a small child might be
overwhelmed, but once they get to know each other there isn't a problem.
Last Thursday Angel had her wellness checkup at the vet. She
weighed in at 41.3 lbs. so she definitely needs to gain some weight - 5
to 10 lbs, would be perfect. She also got all her
vaccinations. Her heartworm test was negative but the fecal exam
was positive for parasites. She just finished her deworming
medication but will need to be retested in a couple weeks. Later
this week she will see the vet to get cleared for her spaying.
Angel is starting to see me as the pack leader but she still wants to be
near me. Although, she has decided that she can be near my
husband if I'm not available. She is getting better about sharing
me with others. When Angel first arrived she would sometimes growl
or get a bit pushy with my cats or Ellie if they were getting my
attention. Now she ignores them most of the time. She loves
to be outside with me while I work in the garden and does not leave the
yard. She doesn't seem to require a lot of exercise but she is
always ready for chasing a ball or stick or frisbee.
When Angel first arrived I wasn't sure she had the right energy to fit
into my relaxed household. She was nervous, anxious, excitable, a
little possessive - all understandable coming into a strange home.
She is much more relaxed now and fits in here perfectly. She
is a love and if I were looking for another dog to adopt it would be
Angel. I really would love to adopt her but somewhere there is
another family just waiting for their "Angel".
5/22/08 - Angel is
becoming more comfortable here and has definitely bonded with me.
I am working to make it clear that I'm the pack leader in the house but
Angel seems to see me as HER human. For the first few days she had to be
where I was, but today she started to lay down further away.
She is a small dog - probably weighing about 40 lb. She has
a vet visit next week to bring her up-to-date with her shots, and
heartworm test. She will also be spayed in a few weeks.
Angel knows some commands - especially sit, stay and come. Down
and off still need some work. She is sometimes a bit stubborn
about following a command. She is really good off leash in the
yard - stays around where I am working and comes readily when
called. This is good because she hates to be left inside when I am
outside. Angel walks very nicely on the leash and hardly ever pulls.
She is housetrained and has not had an accident since arriving here.
Angel is not a great fan of the crate. She whines and digs when in
it but will eventually settle down. I try not to put her in it
very often - just when I need to leave. At night she sleeps on the
floor in my bedroom without any problems.
Angel at times can be very energetic - lots of bouncing, wiggles and
kisses. She has a little too much energy for my 18 month old
grandaughter so Angel might be too much for other small children.
She would be fine with older children.
Angel may not be perfect yet but she is a very sweet boxer girl. Soon
she will be ready for her forever family.
5/19/08 - Introducing
my newest foster - ANGEL. She is a beautiful and adorable dark
brindle girl with a white chest and 2 white toes on each foot. She
has a really smooched looking face because of her underbite. We
are getting to know each other but so far she has been almost an angel.
Introductions to my boxer Ellie and my cats went well. Angel is
just not sure she wants to share me with them yet. This has to be
a difficult adjustment for her since she shared her life with a young
boy who I'm sure she misses. So far she has only had me, Ellie and
3 cats for company. Angel loves a long walk and a game of fetch.
She is very playful and affectionate and love attention. Get your
applications in for this sweet girl.
