3/18/08 - Kane's foster family has become so attached to him that they are going to adopt him. He has acclimated so well to their home and lifestyle that it would be a shame to uproot him and move him again.
3/10/08 - I am happy to report that since Day 3 of Kane taking
antibiotics for a UTI he has had zero leakage problems; that means 10
days now without so much as a drop – very good news. I have also
‘tested’ him with my cat: he saw her from about a 10 foot distance and
the cat was up high – her choice – and he did not seem interested in her
at all. It went something like this: “Look Kaney, see the kitty?” He
looks at her and then looks away. “No Kaney, LOOK. Seeeee the kitty?”
He looks for a second or two and then looks away. His attitude? Cat-schmat,
who cares. I think that Kane would be fine with a cat in the house. I
will test this some more with Kane but currently it

Kane was recently seen by the vet
and is currently on medication for a possible UTI that is causing some
leakage and his frequently having to go out. Once he completes his
medication, this should be all cleared up. Aside from this Kane has not
had any accidents since he has been here. I had mentioned in another
update that although I was trying Kane in the crate he seemed to be a
little bit stressed by it. Since Kane’s previous owners had shared that
he is a perfect gentleman in the house when left alone I have tried this
now on 3 separate occasions without any problems at all. 2/22/08 - Kaney has been with us 5 days now and it appears that most of his initial nervousness is gone. Kane eats well and sleeps even better. He has small energy spurts spaced throughout the day and the rest of the time he likes to relax and recline. He enjoys a 30-45 minute walk in the morning, comes back and chews on his bones for a few minutes, and then he sleeeeeeeps. He does play a little bit throughout the day. Muuuuch more sleeping than playing – much. Playing is only once or twice a day and is very short. He gets another walk later in the day, then more chewing on the bones and then more snoozing. He likes his naptime and at nine I think he’s earned a relaxed retirement. He does not hesitate to let my pup Aja know when he has had it with play for the day; one loud woof and she gets the message. Kane’s previous owners had shared that he loves car rides so much that he can take a little time to settle when he gets in the car. My experience with him is exactly that: he gets in the car and excitedly dances around back and forth in the back seat for a good 5 or so minutes and then he settles down. Once he calms you have either a very happy or sleeping copilot. I also realized that, at least so far, Kane does not jump up on you unless he is invited. Tap your chest and say up and there he is; otherwise he keeps all four planted on the ground. Kane is also learning that counter surfing doesn’t work. While he doesn’t attempt to counter surf often, I caught him yesterday up at the counter smacking something with his paw that I thought I had placed well out of canine range. I really wanted to laugh at the resourceful way he was smacking things around to reach his goal but instead let him know sternly that this doesn’t work. He really is a gem. Lastly Kane seems to be having issues with excessive thirst and has had one occurrence of light incontinence no doubt related to the excess of water that he is consuming. This is going to be looked at with the vet.

Kane – currently known around here
as “Kaney Kane” – is a perfect handsome love of a boy. Kane was
surrendered to BAR along with his sister Hanna as his former owners will
be doing missionary work in South Africa. Were it not for that, these
two would most assuredly not have been surrendered. Kane was loved and
it shows. He has a sweet temperament and a wealth of boxer wiggles that
belie his age. When I get up to go to another room, he jumps right up
with me and follows me, wiggling the whole way – there is something very
joyful and sweet in those wiggles… and did I mention those big brown
eyes? Lol…he’s a heartbreaker with those eyes. He did start off a little
2/19/08 -
Kane arrived here to NJ on Sunday. Kane is
9 years old and is probably average size for a boxer – please note that
he has the most beautiful big brown eyes. He is sweet and affectionate
and a very wiggly boxer boy. I kept him separate from my dog Aja for
most of the first 24 hours as he seemed a little stressed. As he has
become more used to his new surroundings they are spending more time
together. They get along well although at present Kane is not all
that interested in playing – just a minute or two of roughhousing and
then he is content to find a sunny spot to chew on his bones and snooze
in. Kane is housetrained and we have had no accidents in the house at
all. He knows sit, no, come, and we are working on down (he is picking
this up quickly). He responds well to his name and walks well on a
leash, very little pulling. On the few occasions that he does pull, he
responds very quickly and positively to correction. He has zero food
aggression and eats like a champ. He eats so well that he would likely
eat Aja’s food if I wasn’t there to redirect him (he’s tried
=0)...)…again, he responds quickly and positively to redirection. Kane
loves to be with his people and will move with you from room to room in
the house. He is especially fond of my 12 year old son and will get up
to greet him when he comes into the room – very sweet. Kane is a big fan
of both walks and car rides and will undoubtedly follow you to the end
of the earth if you are providing both. 2/17/08 - Just a quick email to
let you know that Kane has arrived. Kane is supposed to be 9 yrs
old but I don't think he knows that; he seems to have the energy level
of a MUCH younger dog; if he didn't have the gray, he could easily pass
for a 3 or 4 yr old. He is currently kind of stressed which is to
be expected....
