5/15/10 - Hello all! Bobby went off with his new family on Sunday and has had a sucessful first few days... we have spoken and shared pictures already. I know that we found the perfect home for him and that Will and Evan will provide him with the life that he deserves. He jumped right in the car with them and never looked back... we will miss him :) Emily, Tim, Pepper, Dolly, and Brandy 4/21/10 - Bobby is pending adoption. 4/5/10 - Bobby helped his foster family celebrate Easter with dinner last night. He welcomed all guests openly, which tells me that he is learning how to be a real boy, and was a super host. He stayed on his leash for most of the evening just to make sure that he made nothing but great decisions. Bobby does not jump on new friends and feels that all adults are a great time!! We have been going to new and different locations to see how he does with children... he definitely gets a little nervous with their activity level, but quickly settles in. We sat on a bench near a busy park and even got to meet two little girls, who fed him cookies and gave him lots of pats. He did not think it was the greatest thing in the whole world but was a great sport. He stood quietly and took the cookies like a perfect gentleman. I think, ultimately, he would be fine with little guys, but an adoptive family would need to work diligently to continue taking him to new locations and teaching him how to behave around new little friends... Bobby would best benefit from a family who can offer him lots of exercise and plenty of training opportunity. He has mastered sit and has a really great recall. We are working on "down" and "wait." Bobby is super smart guy and can become restless without enough stimulation. I think he is pretty laid back for a young Boxer, but don't underestimate this guy he is still a wonderful representative of the breed. 3/27/10 - Bobby is doing so well. He has settled in here so nicely. The small issues that we have been working on are no longer an issue. He is welcoming strangers into the house in a much more graceful fashion. It is better that all visitors ignore all of the dogs to provide him with a chance to approach on his own. There is no barking or jumping-- he just saunters up to the newbie when he is ready. Which takes about 45 seconds :) Bobby has also started sleeping on a dog bed in our bedroom through the night rather then his crate and has not had any potty accidents for days and days. Bobby has also met some new canine companions and loved every minute of it. One of which was a small female. He was very gentle while playing with her. So, small dogs are definitely not a issue. I, also, do not see much of a prey drive in him, which is nice. On walks we see many different kinds of creatures and he never pays them any mind. Overall, Bobby is one happy little guy. He loves everyone and everything. He is patiently waiting for his forever family-- one who will play with him and give him the life that he deserves, hopefully with a furry brother or sister. 3/15/10 - Bobby just came back from the vet and received a glowing report. He is very healthy and the knot on the top of his head is nothing to worry about. She did not even feel the need to do any tests on it... especially since it has gone down a lot over the time that he has been here. We decided that he just needs a little extra room for his brain :) Bobby was very respectful with the vet and techs. Everyone commented on how cute he is! This is a special boy-- think about making him a part of your family. 3/14/10 - Bobby continues to do very well. He had a bath today and thought that this was a great new way to get a drink of water. He loved it!! He was supportive of the other dogs as they suffered through their baths. Bobby is gaining more and more freedom in the house as the days pass. We are beginning to trust him more with regards to his potty training. He still occasionally loses his mind and has a potty accident in the house, but days have past without a mistake. He is going to the bathroom on command and is even able to go out with the other dogs and focus enough to all of his business before going off to play. Bobby sits and waits patiently for his meals and to be let out of his crate. Bobby has a small issue with human personal space. He just can not seem control himself when he is around people. He has to be touching you... this may not be a problem for most, but drives us a little batty. He is learning to ask for permission before approaching a person on the couch. In addition, we had some friends to the house the other night and surprisingly Bobby was very nervous about them coming in the door. He barked nervously and backed into a corner. Once we told him that everything was okay he warmed up to them in a fraction of a second. I think if people come in and completely ignore all of the dogs he would be far more welcoming. Overall, Bobby's issues are minimal and he is learning so quickly. He is such a sweet dog and we are enjoying him more and more every day. 3/6/10 - Bobbie continues to do really well here. Is just one happy little guy. He is crating well and has had only one potty accident in the last 24 hours. He is getting the hang of house life :) He is currently out on the deck (it is oddly warm here) with our Pepper and a brand new bone and having a great time!! We will keep everyone posted on his continued progress 3/5/10 - Bobbie has been with us for nearly a week and we could not be happier with his progress. He seemed completely offended by my last post about this bathroom behaviors... So, between pulling out some old tricks and figuring him out he has gotten his accidents way way down! He is enjoying being let out in the middle of the day by my sister-in-law, which we had set up as a standing date even before Bobbie came along. He is walking PERFECTLY on leash and enjoys walking as a pack. We go for about 45 minutes every afternoon and this semms to be fairly adequate for him. He is a fairly active little guy, but has no problem entertaining himself when home. He is crating very well and I think if it were more centrally located he would be in it more often- voluntarily. He eats with all of the other dogs and slows no food aggression with them or me. Overall, he is a delight to have in the house. In Bobbie's perfect world his forever family would be active with another furry canine sibling. He loves to play and thinks the outdoors are amazing. Get your apps in for this boy! He is a real find!
3/1/10 - Bobbie arrived here in PA yesterday afternoon and is too
cute. He looks like such a little guy compared to the crew here. We
chose to introduce him to our guys after a few hours once we observed
his general demeanor, took him for long walk, and considered that one of
our girls was going in for surgery. We did not want her to be
completely shocked when she arrived home. Bobbie has been a lovely
guest thus far. He is fairly respectful of the other dogs' space
despite his young age. He was not keen on the leash at all when we
first started on our walk, but quickly caught on and was walking in a
nearly-perfect heel position by the end of the trip. He crates very
well. Although he is having a problem with using the potty outside. He
seems to understand that he needs to do #2 outside, but he likes to save
all of his urine for indoors. He is not marking things. Just does not
understand how to do it. He even had a problem in his crate during the
day, but we will see how he does tomorrow with someone letting him out
during the day. The out of doors is such an exciting place that he can
not stop to go to the bathroom. He is playing nicely with our young
male Pit Mix. I wonder if he knows how to live inside. He has no idea
how to use the stairs... More updates to come on this wonderful boy.
He is going to make someone a wonderful pet. |
