4/2/10 - Emma has been adopted! We met up
with her forever family today to transfer her just in time for
Easter weekend. She just needed a little TLC and will make the
Wrigleys very happy. 3/24/10 - Emma is pending adoption 3/17/10 - Ok, so what do I know? Emma obeyed 'stay' for me today! Didn't take long at all. We are just enjoying this beautiful weather...went out for a walk and she had tons of energy, so I ran and she happily trotted along (I don't run that fast!) We made a new black lab friend too. It is a little muddy, and I asked her to sit and then stay while I ran to get a towel to wipe her paws, and she did :) Today is a great day for the little Emma Bean. 3/16/10 - Emma is doing so well and is really letting her personality come out! A little TLC and this girl is getting comfortable and she is ball of laughs! Her newest move is to pouce and skid on the carpet when we throw her new favorite toy, a pluch cow with sqeekers. She has officially mastered "sit" and is very proud of herself. She sits and puts her chest out and head up, so cute and confident! She is definitely NOT a barker. She is alert and curious, and loves to watch people and doggie friends out of the front window. She doesn't get to roam the house when we aren't home though, she goes in her crate just fine. She greets guests like a little lady and we are happy to report she is no longer jumping! We will continue to move through the basic commands, she is catching on quickly to "lay down", but I have a hunch "stay" may take a little longer because she just wants to be near her people. I am so happy that we are out of the woods with all the vet visits...we just had some catch up to do as it seems Emma didn't get regular checkups in the past. Her ears look great, we are half way through her antibiotics, and her weight is up. She is full of energy and walking on a leash continues to be a joy. She is friendly to everyone, two and four legged friends alike, and this little "Emma Bean" as we call her, will make a great new family member. 3/12/10 - Emma has made herself at home here
with us...and is such a great cuddler, we caved and let her up on
one couch! She just loves to be close and just falls into such
a cozy spot :) If you love a cuddle bug, she is for you! She has
also developed into such a great dog to walk, she is prancing
proudly around the neighborhood. 3/7/10 - Emma has had quite an exciting day. No more signs of tapeworm, and more than 24 hours after her flea treatment can only mean one thing....bath time! She didn't love it, but she was a trooper, even with the hairdryer! She was finally free to roam about the house and was a curious, polite girl. We went for another long walk, and she remembered her commands on the leash. We also worked really hard on 'sit' today...she is becoming a pro! She wasn't happy about not sitting with us on the couch, but did just fine when we were consitent and firm, and rewarded her for listening. She curled up on her bed at our feet and hung out. Her favorite part of the day was chasing her new toy, a plush ball that 'honks' instead of 'squeaks' (see the new pics!) She chased it all over and had so much fun. It is a joy to see her open up and play. This week we will have Emma in for her full checkup, and then have her meet some new doggie friends. 3/6/10 - Emma is settling in and becoming more comfortable. She slept in her crate last night (until we get some medicine on board) and she did very well. She sleeps like a rock and has good boxer dreams! She had her first visit to the vet this morning, just to get weighed and get her paws on some tapeworm and flea medication. She is well on her way to being all better and will have her full exam on Tuesday. Again, she was an excellent passenger in the car, and boy, did she have fun at the vet! She easily made friends with another brindle boxer and a black lab. She is quite relaxed and socialized well. After a quick nap, we ventured out for another walk. Emma is improving so quickly and is a joy to have on a leash. Today we practiced walking side by side. When she got a bit ahead of me, a slight tug on the leash and a reminder to 'stay with me' and she was right back in step. She loves being reassured and we stopped a couple of times just to acknowledge what a good girl she was! We were in turn rewarded with a full boxer wiggle :) It was a beautiful day, and lots of people were out. Emma was a cool customer walking by just about anyone and anything besides a crow. Her ears perked and our feathered friend was definitely a target! It took a few commands and tugs to get her back with me...but she listened. She was doing so well that when we got home and I took her off the leash in the back yard, she stayed right by my side! It is clear though that Emma needs to be taught basic commands, as 'sit' and 'down' are not well known to her. But we are practicing all the time and she is learning to trust us and is eager to please. I have no doubt she will learn well. She loves her new squeaky plush bone, her fleece blanket, but she loves being with people the most. Stay tuned for new pictures soon! 3/5/10 - Emma has arrived, and she is such a sweet girl! She was an excellent passanger on her transport and seems to love the car. We took her on a nice long walk to let her stretch her legs after her trip and she walked very well on a leash - did not pull at all! She could use a little work with staying on the right or left, but was really quick to learn and was even improving by the end of our walk. There are currently no other animals here, but Emma came from a home with many other dogs - both big and small - and did well with all but one. She does however have a love for kids and is very gentle with them. Emma is definitely house and crate trained, although like most boxers, wants to be with you when you are home! She is a cuddle bug and loves hugs, sometimes a little too much! We are already working on the 'off' and 'down' commands when she tries to sneak one paw, and then the second, into our laps! Tomorrow she will visit the vet for a once over and to get some medicine for tapeworm. We'll have her well in no time! So far, Emma is a realxed girl who wants as much lovin as she can get, and she will make a wonderful addition to her forever family. |
