4/14/05 - Well, we have had Duncan for two weeks now.  I updated last week, but as he lives with us longer he continues to surprise us.  He is obviously getting comfortable because he feels free to give us the stubborn face whenever he gets a behavioral reminder.  I love that stubborn face.

He is the sweetest boy.  He hasn't met anyone who shouldn't be absolutely delighted to meet him.  He and Pumpkin, our six year old boxer mix, continue to get on swimmingly.  Everyone says they've never seen her so happy.  Duncan has been great for her and for the rest of us as well.

The cat, is not one of Duncan's greatest fan, as he can never get enough of her.  She of course, has quite enough of him.  He is just interested in her, but when she runs he feels he has to chase her.  He never bothers her, but she gives him some smacks.  We're working on them getting used to each other.

Otherwise things are great, Duncan is a super boy.  He sleeps in our room on his bed and hasn't had one accident since he's been here.  We just love him.

3/31/06 - Duncan just left a little while ago with his new family. His new Dad and new fur sister are patiently waiting for him at home but his new Mom and skin kids took the 3 hour drive to get him and everyone is just so excited. It was hard to say good-bye he is an awesome boxer boy but he has a great family and that's what makes this all worth it.

3/24/06 - Duncan is pending adoption

3/23/06 - Duncan is starting to come into his own here. I think he is really happy living a full happy life with our family. He is really starting to play the way Marco would like to and has even gotten a little noisy about it (thanks Marco). Duncan does not have a mean bone in his body it's just noise. For example growling when both of them are tugging on the rope.
Duncan has no ill will towards the cat and when he comes upon her all she has to do is hiss at him and it's enough to send him running. I believe it is just curiosity from not being exposed. Walking on the leash is getting better you just have to not be in a hurry and correct him before exiting the house. He just gets really excited when he is about to leave for a walk. Duncan does very well with our kids the only time I have seen him get a little crazy around them is when they are out on the swing set on this glider thing we have.
Duncan is ready for his forever home lets not make him wait to much longer. He is a lovely boy to have around but he deserves a home to call his own.

3/16/06 - Duncan continues to thrive here in our home. I really wish there was something amazing to say but we have already said it all. Begging at the table is no longer and issue Duncan goes into the other room and waits till our meals are over. Simple reminders are needed now and again to go lay down initially but then he will stay. He has pretty much mastered sit and down. Duncan can be stubborn though you can see it he is kind of the like the middle child in a family. For all those middle children out there and I happen to be one you know what I am talking about.
Duncan is not a super high energy dog especially being only 2 he is very active but not super hyper like some dogs his age.
Duncan is an easy dog to have around he is a constant companion but no longer feels the need to be with you every second. Not to much in the area of the cat has changed, he means her no harm for that I am certain but his quest to find her is on going. Not to say that is all he does but every once in awhile you will hear him poke his head through the cat door or see him go look out the door.
Duncan is all set to move on to his forever home and we know that special place is out there for him.

3/11/06 - Hello everyone Duncan has been with us for 3 weeks now. He is a totally different dog then when he first got here and is really comfortable with his environment. He is progressing so well in all areas and is a really easy foster to have. He continues to get along great with Maddie or female who will be 7 next month and Marco our male who is 18 months. He is a pretty calm dog much to Marco's disapproval. His hunt for the cat continues on and off throughout the day but I am not concerned for her safety when he finds her he just watches her. He is easily called off and never once has he gone after her. She has been in several situations where he could have easily gotten her if that was intention.
Duncan had his neuter on Thursday and did very well he was out of it for the night but by Friday morning he was back to normal. Duncan is a real easy going dog. He will benefit from going to obedience with you and wont disappoint as a member of the family. He is great with the kids and everyone he meets he never barks at the door. He will bark at the back door just 2 or 3 times to let you know he is ready to come in. He doesn't dig and hasn't destroyed anything he is great in the house. At night when it is time for bed he runs right upstairs and goes right into his crate to wait for his cookie. Marco still waits for me at the door before going in his crate. Know that Duncan is all set to go I am sure he wont be with us too much longer.

3/6/06 - Duncan Donut here as the little girl in this family calls me. My foster family wants you all to know I am doing really great. I am a very good boy so they tell me anyway until I do something I am not supposed then I see the mad face. The mad face doesn't happen to often anymore because my 2 bad habits are starting to disappear. I hardly ever look on the counter anymore and for the last week after my foster mom had a really long discussion on the phone we are both learning the right way to do things. My name wasn't the only one that came up though they were also talking a lot about this guy named Marco he is my foster brother. He is pretty cool but he likes to play rough and he can get really loud which isn't my scene.
My days are spent with the family and I am a very good boy when they go out. I discovered a new love today they are called crayons all I know is they were fun to chew up :)
I am going in for a neuter this week whatever that means and my foster Mom says she will let everyone know how that goes. Till next time. Duncan

3/3/06 - Duncan will have been with us 2 weeks tomorrow everyday he continues to grow and show us what potential he has. We truly feel with obedience training and a calm assertive owner Duncan will really thrive. We don't know much about his past 2 years so we can only speculate which I am not about to do but Duncan has 2 minor issues we continue to work on with some great advice from our foster mentor.
I can't really decide how I feel about Duncan and the cat. He likes to look for her but doesn't really make it his mission but every once in awhile you hear him go peek his head through the cat door to see if she is down there. The other night when it was time for bed she was on a mattress on the floor where my niece was spending the night and he saw her but made no attempts to go after her and with a simple correction he was off to his crate for the night. Which he goes right into now with no problems.
Duncan is a good boy he likes to play and just hang out. He is not super high energy for a 2 year old and still has no real interest in playing rough with Marco. Duncan has not destroyed anything in my home nor has he ever had an accident. He loves his people big and small and he loves his foster siblings every so often you catch him licking them of course never when I have the camera.
Duncan went to the vet the other day and the DR. was so impressed with him he said he was a perfect specimen of the breed and was just an all around beautiful dog. I think he was interested because he started asking me all about him and if he liked cats. Duncan goes in for his neuter next Thursday.
We will keep everyone posted and write again soon. Till next time.

2/25/06 - We have had Duncan here with us for a week and in this week we have learned a lot about him. Initially when he first got here I thought he was going to be a little bit of a difficult dog. He was very noisy and appeared to be very hyper. But, that is NOT the case at all.  As soon as he was allowed to be free, all that noise stopped. He no longer feels the need to follow you every where though most of the time he plants himself in whatever room you are in. Duncan goes right into the crate at night with out a peep settles in and sleeps the whole night through. He has never had an accident in the house and is a great member of the family.
He continues to get along great with Maddie and Marco and he is getting better with the cat. The other night she sat with me on the couch and he didn't pay he any mind until she jumped off my lap he was about to chase her but a simple correction made him stop.
He is still interested on what's on the counters and tables. He still is a beggar. Both are things we are working on. He is such a good boy though very relaxed and peaceful just so happy to be part of a family.
Duncan would probably prefer a parent who is home, or parents who work opposite shifts like we do. He is very good with the kids and everyone he has met. He doesn't sit on the furniture even when I had invited him up. Duncan has adjusted very well to our home and is anxiously awaiting his forever home. I don't imagine he will be here for long how can you resist that face.
PS - I wrote this update in the morning and that evening Duncan decided that it was okay to get up on the furniture like my other dogs do.  See picture to the right!

2/22/06 - Duncan is doing really well here in our home, he loves to have the freedom to run about the house so he can be with you.  He is not terribly interested in the rough play that Marco likes to engage in.  He‘d rather just hang out with his humans. It was a pretty nice day out today and Duncan really enjoyed playing in the yard. He found some rose bush clippings and started to chew on them.  Boy did he have a field day running from me when I was trying to get them. My son then found a regular stick and diverted him with that. Duncan likes to play fetch.
Duncan's bad habits include counter surfing and begging, hopefully this will change in time. He has no food aggression and willfully shares water bowls with both Maddie and Marco and could care less if they approach him while eating.
Duncan is a little too interested in the cat for my liking so I may suggest a kitty free home, however it may just be curiosity on his part and once he is able to sniff her and see her more this may change as well.
Duncan is a good boy and he is very easy to have around he has fallen right into place in our pack and understands his role and the part he plays in it. We will continue to let you know how he is doing. He goes into have his neuter tomorrow so we will let you know how it goes.

2/19/06 - We’ve done some introductions and Duncan gets along well with Maddie and Marco, the resident boxers.  He’s a bit more interested in the small dog so introductions are being postponed until he’s settled into our routine more.  Duncan is going to be neutered soon and losing all those hormones may help him but those take at least two months to work out of a dogs system so it’s not an instant fix.
Duncan loves the family and is good when he is with people. He did get snagged counter surfing, checking out what might be available and he follows the kids around if they have food. Duncan loves my husband and prefers to be with him more then anyone else. He is very good with the kids but might be too exuberant for small children who aren’t used to having a big dog around.
Basic obedience and will absolutely be a requirement if you want to adopt Duncan. He knows sit and down, but that’s just the beginning of what he needs to know. Duncan hasn’t learned to walk on a leash yet or to settle nicely in his crate when he needs to.
This boy has a ton of potential that just needs to be tapped into by an owner who’s willing to spend some time with him, and who wouldn’t want to with a face like that?

2/18/06 - Hi everyone I would like you to welcome Duncan into the rescue. He is a very handsome young man with a beautiful Reddish color to his coat. After extremely comical attempts to get Duncan who is approx 2 years old and Sam the pug who is 1 into my car, we made it safe and sound in upstate NY.
Duncan or Duncan Donut as my daughter is calling him rode very well in the car but was super excited that there was someone riding with him. He really wants to get out of the room he is gated in to play but I need to wait till my husband wakes up. I think he will be fine with the other dogs but we are unsure as of yet.
He has been great with the kids ages 4 and 7. He is actually gated in their playroom  with them because he was barking being left alone in the office. I of course am supervising. I am sure Duncan will do very well here my house and it is definitely going to be very active over the next couple of weeks.
Marco is in his glory he can't decide who he wants to play with. He was so lonesome after Petey left it will be nice for him to have some action back in the house. Good thing we have the week off.
Keep checking in on Duncan for updates and of course pictures :)
