12/31/04 -Well it has been almost one year since we adopted our Tonka. He is the perfect fit. From the day he arrived he has acted like he was home. He loves to play with our other boxer jake. There have been MANY hours of play in the backyard, and the entire house. He is wonderful with our two sons. Thank you for helping us find him and helping him find a home.

3/4/04 - I wanted to let you know how Tonka was doing, He is as fabulous as the first day he came home to us. He is the nicest puppy. He never has any accidents, has a great appetite, and of course still
loves our other boxer Jake. He is wonderful with our two sons. He and Jake have been enjoying the
warmer weather, they want to be out in the mud more then in the house. We are very happy with our
Tonka. Thank you again to all of you who have such dedication.

2/2/04 - Tonka is doing really well. It seems as though he has been here forever. He seems very happy. He loves to play with our other dog Jake. They are the best of friends, they take naps and just love to be together. We are very happy and want to thank all of the volunteers for everything that they do every day to help these animals get another chance at life.

1/5/04 - Wow! Tonka is super! He is such a sweet guy. He has been such a good boy. He has not had any accidents in the house. He is eating well and playing a lot. He and our boxer love to go outside and play. They are the best of friends. Tonka is a great fit. Thank you Boxer Angels!

1/2/04 - Well, Tonka just left with his forever family - the Parkers, a really nice couple with two boys about my kids ages.  I'm really sad to see him go - he was probably one of the best fosters I've had, just such
a special guy.  I know he's going to a good home though, they live not too far from me and I got to do their home visit yesterday and see where he'll be living.  He and his new brother, Jacob, got along really well and I know that Sally and Steven are in for a whole lot of boxer roughhousing in their living room!  I think Satchel really misses him, he's doing things he never does (stealing slippers to get someone to play with him?  What's that about?).  We're really going to miss the little guy here but I know he'll never have to be loose on the streets again or in a shelter or any place but a nice warm house.

1/1/04 - Tonka is pending adoption.

12/29/03 - Here we are week 2 with our lovey boy Tonka in the house and he's still doing great! We were at the vet with Tonka on Saturday and he's up to 42 pounds so the cooking here must be agreeing with him. He's probably pretty close to where he needs to be right now weight-wise but with his growing legs, goodness knows where he'll stop!
The spots on Tonkas feet and back are demodectic mange, which is fairly common in young pups who's immune systems haven't developed completely yet. His age combined with the stress of being a stray and then in the pound probably are the reason he's got the crawlies. It doesn't bother Tonka, no itching or anything but he needs to have some cream put on all his spots for a while until they clear up. Other than that, Tonka is in perfect health and showing more and more of his personality every day. He loves to be on the furniture - the chair, the couch, any bed someones laying on, you name it. When he gets on the bed at night if the electric blanket is on he's in heaven - rolls on his back and just moans he's so happy!
We seem to have the housebreaking thing down pat - no more accidents in the house for Tonka! They're will be some backsliding when he moves onto his new home until he figures out that he's not supposed to pee in ANY house, not just ours but I'm sure he'll pick it up quickly.
Tonka must be catching peoples eye too! One of our past fosters e-mailed this morning to see if he was staying with us - I told them I'd drive him 1/2 way if they applied for him (wink, wink). Either way, this boy should be out of here in a flash!!

12/24/03 - I'm a little slow with this update but Tonka is doing so well with us here it's hard to remember he's a foster dog. Tonka has adapted very well to our house and loves everyone he meets - he's done well with our dogs, all the holiday visitors we've had, even two cats we've introduced him to. We're still working on Tonkas housebreaking but he's doing well with it - only a few accidents when the humans in the house miss his requests to go out. He's very, very (very, very) good in his crate - staying dry for a very long day on Monday and overnights. Tonka would be probably be happiest with someone who is not out of the house all day every day - he does have a little separation anxiety and, like all boxers, just wants to be with people. It's funny to watch him play with the other dogs, he doesn't quite have control over those legs yet and he trips himself jumping around. Tonka's foster grandmother says he looks like a fawn leaping and jumping up in the air - he really is too cute.
Our little man will be visiting the doctor tomorrow to check some bald patches on his feet that may just be from his stay in the shelter but we want to be sure. Once that's done he'll be all ready for his forever home, we'll miss him something awful when he goes - he really is a very special boy!

12/21/03 -  Tonka man joined us yesterday after a trip from Long Island - and we are so glad to have him here with us for what, I think, will be a short-short stay. Tonka is a sweet little boy who needs some fattening up. I'm not sure if he was a stray or an owner surrender but he hasn't been eating too well lately. No problem though, he polishes off what I give him here faster than everyone else can finish theirs and he's begging for more. It seems like someone spent some time working with Tonka because he does not jump up, he sits very nicely when asked, he's very calm in the crate overnight and he's got a nice soft mouth for such a young guy. I wonder if it's because he needs some work in the housebreaking department? I don't think it's going to take him very long to learn the ropes though. Tonka will go to the bathroom outside when he's taken he just hasn't quite figured out that's the ONLY place he's supposed to go. ("Plus it's so coooold out here" he says!) He's already found the plush toys and the rawhides and loves them.
We're all already in love with him here so you'd better get your dibs in quick!
