Pertinent Information 7/19/03 - Dixie's family called with an update on her today and she is doing awesome. She and her little sister just love each other and are rarely apart. They curl up in bed together (even thought there are two dog beds), the eat together, play together and even when they run, they run side by side. hey have no issues with her and she loves everyone that comes to visit. 3/8/03 - Well my Dixie girl has gone home. Her family just loved her as she did them...Dixie was all over them from the moment they walked in the door. Was like I didn't even exist..nice huh:o(
I think Dixie will be very happy and very much
loved...she has an adorable little sister just waiting for her at
home..her name is Holly and she is 7 months old..I have a pic of her I
will pass on.
3/5/03 - Dixie is pending adoption. 2/23/03-Miss Dixie is sitting here looking at me with her big beautiful eyes as if to say "Why haven't I found a forever home yet" I tell her be patient Dix...that perfect family is out there for you, they just have to find you. Dixie continues to be a wonderful girl that has just stolen my heart. I want more than anything for this girl to find the great home she so deserves. She does take a week or two to settle in and get use to you but that is common with most dogs. Please don't let this two week period scare you away from getting a great addition to your home. If you have any questions at all on her you can feel free to email me at tinaf@hvc.rr.com and I will be happy to answer them. Let's find this super girl a home:o) 2/7/03 - Dixie continues to do extremely well in my home. She gets along well with all the current residents with no issues at all. Dixie does not like the crate, so we do not use it. She spends her nights sleeping on a bed next to my sons bed and sometime will climb into bed with him. During the day she is gated off in the hallway leading to our bedrooms and does not bother anything. She is so uncomfortable in the crate panting and panting I feel there is no need to use it as long as she is a good girl. Dixie could very easily have free roam of my home day and night but with the other dogs I have to keep her gated off when ho one is home...just in case. Miss Dixie has become very active and playful the last day now. She is bouncy and wiggling all over. She loves to get a hold of the toys, but watch those cloth squeaky toys as she will take the squeaker out of each one. She is now quickly becoming part of the family. Dixie was a little standoffish and shy the first week but is now enjoying the love and affection we are showering on her. Dixie will need a home that will be patient and very understanding of her and realize she is not a mean dog in any way. It just takes her time to warm up to and feel secure in a home. When Dixie wants to play now, she will stand in front of me and do her playful growl and bark at me. If you don't know her and who she is, it can certainly be taken the wrong way. If you have prior boxer experience and want to make this perfect, beautiful girl part of your life please fill out an app or if you have done so email us today. 2/2/03 - Well Miss Dixie has settled in to my home
quite well. She has been introduced to all 6 of the other residents and
has no issues with any one of them. She went on a nice trip to LI
with me yesterday and even did a home visit with a terrific family. They had a one year old and a 4 year old and
Dixie was so kind and gentle with them it was amazing. She walked in to
that home like she belonged there. 1/28/03 - Dixie chickie is such a cutie pie! Today my son and I were having a quick hug, and Dixie immediately came wiggling up, eager to make it a group hug. She plunked her big white paws right up onto us. Earlier, she proved that she will easily get over her nervousness about coming inside---after potty, I praised and called her from the doorway (into the fenced-in back yard) and she came bounding over the snow, all a’wiggle to the door. She has had her nervous moments---I remember my Poppy girl going through similar times early in her adoption to us---but once she figures out who loves her, look out! She’ll be your baby forever. Tonight we put our cats in the bedrooms, because Dixie really wants to chase them, and let Dix out into the main rooms with the family, including our dogs. Dixie was so happy to be "free," and made a bee-line to the couch and hopped right up to snuggle a few moments with my daughter. Then she decided to test out the other dog’s playing abilities. She play-bounced, growled, wiggled her butt, and barked at Duke, begging him to chase her. She was a little too much for my Poppy girl, who slunk off upstairs in quick order. Dixie initiates the play, is a very energized playmate (who would have guessed---she’s been so quiet in the kitchen!), and is very loud---not shy at all with the dogs! One thing I should mention about this girl—she is very talkative! She’ll walk right up to us, sit down, look at us and talk away. The first time I was a little startled, thinking she was growling, but then I noticed that her little nub was going---she just wanted my attention. Since then, we have found her chattering away quite a lot, to both people and dogs. 1/28/03 - Dixie greeted us all with wiggles and kisses this morning. She is getting more relaxed with us, or perhaps starting to get over her heartbreak of being given away. I can tell that someone once spent a lot of time with her. She has wonderful manners; for instance, if I get down the doggie cookie container or get out the leash, she immediately sits in front of me. She is a sweet, sweet dog, but does need constant reassurance. Some things seem to scare her. It really appears that she has not spent a lot of time in a house---her fur is thick and long, her nails are worn short, she hesitates going inside of a door and needs a little reassuring first, and she is definitely afraid of crates. On the positive side, she is comfortable in the baby-gated kitchen with a big dog bed on the floor, even at night. She sleeps in the kitchen all night with no whining or barking or destrustive activity. Dixie strikes me as a super sweet gal who hasn't been lucky in love yet and needs someone to give her lots of babying. 1/26/03 - High Hopes welcomes Miss Dixie, or "Dixie Chick" as a volunteer nicknamed her! Thank you Susan and Anthony for letting Dixie have a sleep-over and a nice warm bath at your house! I understand that Dixie slept next to the bed, in the same room with the resident dog---no problems. Also, thanks to James and Dina for giving this Dixie Chick rides to her foster home! You guys are great! Dixie is a big, beautiful girl who is a little on the shy side---a sweet, shy Southern belle. She wagged her tail at my dogs through the baby gate, and she really wanted to chase the kitties. With people, she is a little more reserved at first, but seems to warm up fairly quickly. What I gather about Dixie's past is that her first owners gave her up because they did not have enough time for her and felt that she was spending too much time in the crate. The second home gave her up because she and the resident dogs did not get along, and they thought she would be happier in a home without sibling squabbles. We'll see how she does with my dogs in a controlled situation---no food or bones left out, no favorite toys left out to fight over, controlling hyper times, etc., and report more on that as we go along. Dixie is a smart cookie, sitting, shaking her paw, and even going "down" on command. By the end of our first day, she understands what "wanna go out?" means. She does not seem experienced walking on the lease, however. She ate well, and let me pat her head while eating, only slowing down the chewing a bit---not too bad, considering we're still strangers. It will be interesting to see how this somewhat shy girl develops over the next few days. I have a feeling there's a really sweet girl hidden under that shyness, who will be very happy getting loved. Stay tuned for more on Miss Dixie! |
