Pertinent Information 1/17/04 - Sasha seems to love life here and has adjusted nicely. She is still leery of strangers but has stopped her biting. She is great with all the friends and family we have that come in. As for strangers, she now just corners them and barks until we come in. She is the mush of mushes. She is no longer content to just snuggle at my feet. She now must lay on my chest when she goes to sleep. I've never had a dog do that with the exception of my beagle who feels the need to put her snout on my face when she sleeps. Any dog owners know what that's about? I've had dogs all my life and have never seen this. I am sure Sasha got it from the beagle. Sasha still wakes me up with kisses and she now thinks she's a poodle that can climb on my lap anytime. One time both dogs got out from the yard and before I could get my keys and get in the car, Sasha was back. She wanted no part of life on the run. Of course, we all had to pile in and look for the beagle, who began running after our car. I think she just didn't want Sasha to get all the attention. Sasha will be going to the vet within the next month for an update on all her shots. She seems to be in good health except for one paw that bothers her in the snow. I bought her booties but she hates them so she just toughs it out. She likes to serenade my daughter when she plays the piano which we all get a kick out of and she's become very close to her. When she was sick with the flu, Sasha had to lay on her bed - with her head on my daughter's chest, which my daughter didn't like one bit. She's real good, though. You tell her no and she stops. You just have to reposition that muscular body of hers. Hope her mom is doing as well as she is. Thanks again, guys for letting me having the pleasure of raising this beautiful animal. She is truly a treasure. 8/22/03 - Sasha is doing great! She is the favorite among my children's friends. They always bring her bones and toys. She is always most appreciative and gives them a big boxer slobber like only she can do. She loves her walks and loves to eat. She's put on some weight. If I can figure out how to work my scanner, I'll send you a picture. She's filled out nicely. The night we had the blackout here in New York, she was such a protective soul. She did feel the need to sleep right up against me on the living room floor with my 2 children and my other dog, I could have really used air conditioning that night. There was no getting around her though. If I moved, she moved. We love her and she seems to be truly enjoying her new home. 6/19/03 - Hi! It's me, Sasha girl! Life is really sweet here. I have many friends. I go for walks and play in the backyard and get treats and toys all the time. I've even won over my mom's friend who hates dogs. When she thinks no one is looking, she talks to me in doggie talk and feeds me bones. She even brought over 2 boxes of biscuits with the excuse "it must get expensive having 2 dogs". Pleasssssse who does she think she's kidding? Me and Rico get along fine now. I have to protect the little guy because he's not as tough as he thinks. So life is good. Speak to you soon. 5/1/03-Sasha is doing great. She is so obedient. She loves her walks and doesn't pull me along like my other boxer used to do. She likes to stroll and check things out. Some nights she sings in her sleep. We're not sure what that's about yet. Then there is the nights she snores. Apparently she is quite comfortable now. She is such a mush except with people she doesn't know. Even though there is a big sign on my door not to just walk in, we still have some of my husband's macho friends who don't heed that advice. If I'm where I can see Sasha, she stops immediately and goes outside. She truly listens well. If I'm in another part of the house, she will growl and if they put out their hand, she will nip and back away a bit. It's like she's warning them. Apparently when Sasha is to that point, they start to take me seriously. Now we get phone calls from outside asking if we can put the dog away. We still have one persistent guy who continues to stroll in. One day, I won't be around to save him and I'm sure he'll use better judgment next time. She doesn't attack though, which makes me feel better. She will always step back once she's warned them. I have a feeling she was abused some where in her life. She's great with the kids now. While I don't trust her 100% with their friends, probably because I didn't raise her from a pup, she has been very sweet and gentle to them. We just love her. 4/4/03 - Sasha is doing unbelievable. What a lover! She is beginning to know who belongs in our house and who doesn't and is now acting appropriately. We haven't had one issue with my youngest this month. In fact, she is getting quite protective of her. Other than those slobbering boxer kisses that she feels the need to give me at all hours of the night, she's doing great. She's got the art of stealing her brother's toys down to a science. We laugh hysterical when she carries her big bone everywhere she goes, only to try and fit her brother's big bone is her mouth without dropping the other one. She hasn't mastered this yet. It's great having a boxer in the house again. She loves our big backyard although she hasn't become friends with our neighbors yet. They try to give her bones but she'll have no part of them sticking their hands over the fence. We just love her to death. I haven't taken her to training yet because we ran into some unexpected financial problems but I will. I'd actually like to take my beagle first, because we're having more problems with him than Sasha. Thanks again, boxer angels. This girl is a dream come true. 3/6/03 - Life is pretty good here. I have toys and bones to play with and I've gained some weight. My new brother, Rico (the beagle), is pretty fun. I get to sleep on Mom and Dad's bed at night and get to give Mom kisses at all hours. I still have some issues with people I don't know but Mom is calling this week to take me to obedience training. I have a big backyard to play in and the kids are good to me. Thank you, boxer angels, for rescuing me. I am in a good, safe home now with people who love me. 2/8/03 - Grommit is doing really well. She is eating good and is doing very well with going to the bathroom outside. Only one day we had a few accidents and I think it was just because she was scared and in a new environment. She's very lovable and gets attached quickly. We're trying to keep the house as quiet as possible so she can get use to her new environment. We've limited guests from coming over. She quite protective so we've told everyone not to just walk into our house anymore. The first night she wouldn't let my husband in (which my children were thoroughly enjoying) but now the two of them are best friends. We're keeping an eye on this but I truly feel she just needs to settle in. She listens extremely well, though, so I feel like she knows I'm in charge and I don't have a problem controlling her. She has new toys that she is loving. At first, she didn't know what to do with them and would give them readily to my beagle. Not so anymore. They are having this little dominance thing going on which they are working out nicely. My beagle tends to think he's a great dane and in charge all the time. However, Grommit is definitely getting the hang of it and putting him in his place. She loves to give kisses and is so respectful and listens really well. We love her! Thanks to Gary and his wife for bringing her to us on their anniversary. I'll keep you all posted on this lovable mush. 2/5/03 - Grommit has been Adopted 2/1/03 - Grommit is pending adoption. 1/28/03 - Grommit is doing well and being very playful with our boxer Boris. We got her and Boris a stuffed snake and they steal the toys from each other which starts up some wrestling. She has been eating well and is gaining some weight for her upcoming spaying. She seems to be very well adjusted to life in Kings Park (except she would like it to be a little warmer outside). She was singing yesterday to the piano - we are not sure if that was intended as a compliment or complaint. More updates soon! 1/17/03 - Grommit has been with us since Sunday. Five days already and she feels like she is home. Loves attention and kisses, loves to walks in the park, plays in the backyard, and listens very well. At night she stays in the crate in our bedroom, now we don't close the door and she stays in. She is eating very well, sometimes does not want to share with my dog, but does not bite, just makes a sound and he backs up. Barks when someone rings the bell and jumps up and down when we come home. She is a happy girl and gets attached very fast. Likes to be together all the time. 1/14/03 - Grommit is a good girl and listens very well. She stays in her crate and 'asks' permission to come upstairs. She is getting along well with our Boxer Boris (although he is a little jealous that someone else is getting attention from us). She has a healthy appetite and will gain some weight during her foster visit here. She is also playful with Boris and his toys and shares his bed. She follows us around and appears to be quite smart and responsive. More news to come... 1/11/03 - Grommit and her mom, Pooh Bear were
welcomed into BAR today. From Uncle Gary's house, she was picked up
by a first-time foster home also on LI. Look for updates to follow. |
