11/20/10 -
Hi everyone at BAR. It has been a while since I updated on Ace. I hate to inform everyone that Ace has passed away. A liver tumor took him from us way too early. ,He was a terrific buddy until the last moments. He will be missed by my entire family. Thank you for bringing him into my life. He will forever be loved.

4/25/05 - Hello Everyone. Just a quick update on Ace. He is still the perfect puppy. He has really made himself at home and has become protective of his home and family. He is especially good at defending us from squirrels, I now know when there is a squirrel with-in 100 yards of the house!!! He barks when people come to the door, but readily allows visitors in once he knows it is OK or is someone he recognizes.
He is great with other dogs, my neighbor often brings his three Staffordshire's here and the four of them tear through the back yard. It usually only lasts for 20-30 minutes and then they are all exhausted and end up falling asleep in a pile. It is hysterical. Ace has really taken to the puppy of the group (8 months), he seems to have the most energy and really runs with Ace.
He really has been great. The only problem I have had with him is a recent need to mark my entertainment unit. Twice in the last two weeks or so he has urinated on it. I don't know why he is doing this. I'm sure it will work it self out. I have new pics of him but don't know how to post them.  As soon as I figure it out I will share them.
I would once again like to thank everyone at BAR for matching me with such a great buddy. I will update again soon.

3/13/05 - Hello everyone, I just wanted to update you all on Ace. He is the PERFECT pooch. He has been with me a week now and I have had only one minor issue with him. He fought one of my pillows and let me tell you the pillow lost. Other then that he has been a dream. He is very smart and a real lover. All he wants to do is sit next to me, well more like on top of me. We went for a walk this morning around the neighborhood and he was perfect on lead. He stayed right next to me and ignored all the neighborhood children and dogs unless I told him it was OK. He must of had some decent training somewhere in his life because he responds readily to all the basic commands. He even waits to eat until I tell him he can, I know he will wait a while too. I put his food down a couple of nights ago and went to answer the phone. Well I was on the phone 15-20 minutes and when I walked back into the kitchen he was still sitting there waiting for me. OOPS!! Anyway, he is terrific. I could not have asked for a better buddy, thank you to BAR and everyone involved with him for finding me a buddy for life.

3/7/05 - Hello everyone. I just wanted to give everyone a quick update on Ace. I picked him up from Deb's on Sunday afternoon and we took a little road trip to my sisters. There he met the entire human family and Dakota, my sister's rottweiler. He was TERRIFIC with everyone. I have 3 nephews, ages 8,5, and 1, and he was a perfect gentleman with all of them. The worst thing he did to anyone was a major tongue bath on the 1 year old, he had food on his face and Ace was just making sure he was clean!!!! Ace is a terrific dog, he has not left my side since I picked him up. I don't know if it is possible or not but he already seems to know I am his new forever daddy. He kept looking at me while at my sisters to check if he was being good, it was pretty cute. Anyway, I need to leave for work just wanted to let everyone know how happy we are together. Until next time.....-Bobby

3/6/05 - Hello everyone. I wanted to let everyone know that Ace went home with his Forever Dad today...Robert. Ace is so "natural" with Robert, from the very 1st day they met, Ace slobbered him with alot of kisses. In the week that he has been with us, I have not seen him give anyone that many kisses and again when Robert bent down to say hello to him when he came for him tonight, Ace planted a ton o' kisses on Robert's face. They just seemed to have known each other their whole lives. He will be a very loved, lucky lil' boy! He was a pleasure to have even though it was a very short time. Debby , Jesse, Scott & Bogey B.

3/2/05 - Ace is pending adoption

2/27/05 - Ace arrived at The Mama Lady's Boxer Retreat yesterday and will be with us until that lucky family finds this sweet boy. He of course, was a bit unnerved by all that was happening. I kept talking to him thru the ride to his new "digs". He quieted down very quickly & lay across the back seat & grabbed a few minutes of sleep. When we got here, I
walked him thru the front yard & he was VERY curious about the new sites & smells. I put my Bogey out in the back yard & gave Ace a few minutes to run thru the house taking in all the smells of his new retreat.
He ABSOLUTELY loves it when you grab his...omg...VERY very short lil' nub and turns himself inside out trying to beat you to it! Then he just leans into you and waits for you to complete the back massage. Ace is very cuddly, very snuggly. He & I fell asleep on my bed for like 1/2 hour as we were both very comfortable in each other's warmth. I have kept him crated for the most part until he catches some of the routine here and I want to keep safety in mind for my Bogey as well. Ace seems anxious to get to meet Bogey, but we will keep that for a few more days.
Ace met my 2 boyz tonight. I have a 12 y/o & a almost 9 y/o. He was VERY surprised to see this "surprise" walk thru the door..it was almost comical, as they had no idea that he was here either...lol..sneaky Mama Lady. Well, after a few heads turning side to side trying to comprehend what each of them were seeing...there were lots of hinny wiggles and happy boyz!
Ace is a little rough in play mode as his big ol' paws box out toward whatever is in their space. He also needs to learn...easy with the peoples. He nailed me square in my nose this morning..oh man..I saw stars! He definitely is a bouncy Boxer boy.
Ace knows a few commands. He does automatically sit himself down when you grab the leash, he also LOVES to play tug o'war with the leash :o}. He is a strong boy, so I believe he would definitely benefit from Obedience Training.
Ace had a good first 2 days & now nights here...everyone is still checking each other out. So, we will update with more in a few short days.

2/26/05 - Hey Everyone, I wanted to let the group know that Ace has come here to The Mama Lady's Boxer Retreat for the duration of his Fostering. I picked him up from Donna today at 11:00. Donna has done a real fine job with Ace, his paperwork from the shelter said he "was very nervous, tense"...well, he is not that now. He has put on some much
needed weight in Donna's care. He is a real good boy. Very affectionate and loves to play as well. We have him in the crate here in the living room, we will keep things low-key for a few days, let him check us out. He seems interested to meet my Bogey but we will keep that for another day. I took Ace on a Home Visit with me today, he was a gentleman. A big Mama Lady welcome to this sweet boy...I know he won't be with us for long...he is a real sweet boy. Will keep everyone updated on his days here. Debby

2/20/05 -Ace's vet check went great. Has an irritation from what he thinks is clipper burn from his neuter. No problems being lifted up on the table, stood beautiful for his weigh-in...has gained some needed weight while he's been here. A little sensitive around the ears at first. Has shown some aversion to certain men. Makes me wonder why. Overall, Ace is a wonderful dog that just needs to feel safe and secure and will offer so much Boxer love back. This boy definitely would benefit from being included in a family life. He deserves to hold his head up high again and be proud to be a Boxer.

2/15/05 - Took Ace today for a ride in the car, to test him, as he has his Vet. appt. tomorrow. He was wonderful. So I went to my trainer's to introduce and say "Hi". He was very well behaved and didn't try to snatch any goodies as we walked thru. I got admonished and sprayed with bitterapple for not having him harnessed in the car. Well, we do the best we can and afford. Had an opportunity to introduce him to a 5 year old today...the brother of one of my clients (thought it was her son, oops!) He did very well, but it was a controlled situation. He's so full of Boxer and a big boy, he could knock over a smaller child, but understands "off" and "no" and will respond. It's the boxer "paw thingy" Nothing intentional, just exuberance! The big guy is always hungry, so I've been feeding him more, but on a schedule. We'll see what the vet says tomorrow. He's the biggest mush, and belly's up for rubs, kisses and hugs and any form of attention. Just wish I had more to report on his interactions with kids, dogs and cats. Just know, that first and foremost, this boy is very attentive (his eyes never leave me IF he's awake) which makes for a very trainable dog...and soooo willing to please! Mr. Happy, happy, happy. He would be great in a home that is active, cause he craves the attention, wants to be part "of it all", and would love the interaction and exercise. Then he just cuddles up! This kid has so much love to give! "Ace is the Place"

2/14/05 - Ace continues to do great...should have named him "Mr. Bojangles" the way he dances, sooo happy and grateful What a boy! No contact with cat or children yet. Doing the 2 day looky, sniffy thing with my boys for now, until I have help with an intro. He's been wagging his tail and play bow, so that's a good sigh. Vet appt. Wed. for well check and fecal. He's been uncrated in my work area for short periods of time with toys and bone. No destructive behavior and sleeps like a babe thru the night in his crate...hasn't tried to rip up his
teddy bear yet! Loves getting hugged. Just wonderful so far.

2/13/05 - "Ace" arrived here today, via "GED"..."Gary Express Delivery"!!! He got his name because he is BAR's "Ace
of Hearts," and has an upside down "Heart"  on his chest, just in time for Valentine's Day!!
He's a young male around 2 years old, maybe younger, about 60'ish lbs, fawn with white tootsies and chest. Tall and strong...wait till he fills out!
He's been here about 5 hours and has been a gem! He's investigated the yard several times. Had some play time and a snack, and a nice walk. Gary said I might have a problem getting him in the crate, but he just needed the female touch! His teddy bear was awaiting him. I put the bear in his crate, and with a little push, in he went. Third time being crated today, I didn't have to push on the hiney at all. He is very strong and pulled on the leash, so I came back to the house and put a prong on. I gave him 2 checks...first very gentle, he turned around to see where that came from...got his attention. He pulled again and I gave him a medium check...he turned and looked as if to say "Oh, there really is someone on the end of the leash!" We ended up having a beautiful walk after that. I could keep him in heel very easily, but also let him have a "let's go" walk, where he could do his sniffing, etc. (I call it reading the doggy newspaper). His stool has gotten looser as the day has progressed...maybe it's the peanut butter and kong. He's been fine in the crate, without whining or crying, so he may not need the "pacifier", but I'll keep it handy, as I may be speaking too soon...haven't gone thru the night yet! He seems very sweet and loves attention. Takes his treats gently, sits for food, collar and leash, understands no. Appears to be very trainable and very willing to please.
