Pertinent Information 2/7/05 - Well there are to many words to describe our Billy. He is so happy and fun to be around. There is never a dull moment between my 2 year old and Billy. He is doing very well on a leash now and listens very well even with my son. My son tells Billy no gloves and he understands. He still needs to gain some weight though still looking good. He has made a couple of friends on our street and when we go for walks he looks for them. He is more like a human than a pup. i am so glad that Billy has found a home with us. 2/3/05 - All is well with this happy go lucky pup! We have had Billy for a couple of days now and I can't believe how well he is with everything. Billy still loves his gloves and stole a pair of my husbands for his new play toy. Billy listens very well and kisses a lot:) We have made a life time home for Billy and I think he knows it and it shows. Just a couple of more pounds for Bill and he will be as good as new. 1/30/05 -Well, we will miss our Silly Billy! He left today with Sheila and her husband Gabriel. What a nice couple! They know they will have their hands full of Boxerness and are very much looking forward to it! I know Billy will make himself at home in no time and his new family will give him lots of love and attention- something these poor "Angels" really need. How wonderful that people search out dogs not only for companions and friends, but family members and lifetime partners. We will all miss Billy -especially Roscoe who seems to be looking around for him :( We will be looking for updates on our cool "fang-man" and much thanks to his new family for their big hearts for taking him in. 1/27/05 - Billy is pending adoption. 1/24/05 - We have a new name for our resident Boxer boy: Mr. Bill the mitten thief! Billy loves the snow! It is up to his chest and he leaps through it like a deer. I did get a quick picture of him and Roscoe (they didn't want to stand still for too long in the cold). Billy gets a bit wild out in the white stuff and was jumping up trying to pull off my kids' gloves. Our first Boxer used to have a thing for gloves too... We just say "no gloves Billy" and he eventually calms down. If you throw a snowball he goes for your glove and not the snow, LOL. He has gained some weight and is now 47 pounds! He is getting some muscle-tone too. Lookin' good! He has been a bit resistant to go in the crate these last few days- I suspect it is because he's gotten so used to being out and with all of us. He is so cute and acts so much like a person. I couldn't see Billy somewhere where he would not be able to get a lot of attention. He is really working on sitting at the door and waiting. Other than that- he's perfect. A real kisser though, so don't say that you weren't warned in advance! 1/21/05 - Just wanted to add the latest news about our cool guy Billy. He is such a riot! What a personality he has! He has been very good in the house although we have never left him alone uncrated. He has free roam all other times, even at night when we sleep and he does wonderfully. He always sleeps on his bed next to ours, even if Roscoe goes off to sleep in one of our children's rooms, Billy stays next to us. He must have had a life of comfort because after he eats or plays outside, he naturally climbs up on the couch and curls up to sleep. We JUST bought a brand new one, and that is the only place dogs are not allowed (unless they are on someone's lap). That must sound funny, but we do hold them like that, not for very long.... It is hard to resist their affections these beauties, I'll tell you that! They will turn anyone into a real softy. We simply say "get off" and point to his sherpa rug and he obeys. Billy does not get up on counters and also does not bark. Very rarely when he is in the yard he will bark once or twice to see if my neighbor's dog is out on their back porch, otherwise I never hear him in the house, even if there is a knock on my front door. A few more things you might want to know about Billy that we have come to learn over the past few days is that he loves to get the attention and will jump on top of or over Roscoe to get it! We are working on that as we find it hard for Roscoe- he just retreats and I don't want him to feel less important. I wouldn't say that Billy is a Bully (that was cute) but just that in his mind HE WANTS LOVE!!!! It is a hard thing to balance as a foster home because we know that one thing these dogs really need IS love. So we simply calm him down and reassure him that he is loved. He reminds me of a toddler that holds there arms up in the air as if to say "pick me up". He will nudge your hand or put his paws on your lap as if to say the same thing. You can tell him no and he does listen, but there have been times that I have typed a whole letter with his front legs and chest on my lap. 1/18/05 - Hello again- just wanted
to say that Billy made a trip to the vet today for a quick check up and
everything was great! The vet said he needed to put on about 10 pounds,
but I'm sure that will happen fast now that he is in a good home and not
in the shelter. He loves to eat! He and our other Boxer Roscoe are so
good together! They know when to give each other space, but also love to
wrestle and run outside. Billy plays gentle and when Roscoe gets up and
decides the game is over, Billy doesn't bug him for more. Billy does get
jealous when Roscoe is getting pet and hugged, pushing himself between
us, so we have been working on that. He also tries to be the first one
out the door 1/16/05 - Well hello Boxer lovers! Please welcome Billy, our new foster boy. First off, I have to tell you how GREAT Billy has been with both our family and our dog Roscoe. I have added a picture of both the boys in the crate (whose is it, anyway?). They immediately started liking (and licking) each other and have been good together ever since. Also, I will say that Billy is excellent with our kids (aged 6, 8 & 10). He does try to jump up on your chest with his paws, but it is basically to get close enough to kiss you and it is only when you first come in the door. A simple "Off" command and he gets down. Some people like to get "hellos" like this, so this may be something that Billy was used to doing. I don't think it is an issue. He needs to put on a ton of weight- he is extremely skinny! He did eat his first meal with no problem, so I hope that when I next send pictures he will look better in that department. We also gave him a bath and he was great through it all. It has been too cold to go for a walk, and especially after the bath, but I can tell that he is a strong boy the few times I have had to hold on to his leash. I will try to take him for a walk tomorrow to see if he is a "puller" or not. He loves to be near people and is surely (true to Boxer form) one dog who will want to be by your side or on your lap. He has shown no signs of aggression towards our dog, with food, hugging or anything else that we have tried with him so far. We have only had Billy with us for one day and I know he won't be with us for long- he is a very good boy. He goes in the crate with no problem, has had no accidents in or out of the crate, goes out and does his business and comes back in when called, he sits, stays and lays down when told.... so far he shows no behavioral problems. Please keep checking for updates, I will do them often. In the meantime, get your application and request in for Billy as he is not going to be in foster care for long. |
