3/29/06 - Darlah, has been an official member of our family for one year. She is just an amazing dog. We love this girl more than we ever thought imaginable.

Darlah is a very big girl. She now weighs 80lbs. She is losing some of her hair again, so it's off to the vet to get her thyroid levels checked. Darlah is loved by everyone. My mom and my father-in-law, in particular. They adore her because she is just such a great girl. All wiggles when you come home, all wiggles when she plays, all wiggles when you talk to her and tell her she's a good girl. She's simply the best.

Darlah has endured several fosters over the last year. She has been the best with them all, despite how they were with her. She loves to play and plays to pure exhaustion some days!! Darlah is very tolerant of my kids. She allows them to fawn all over her, daily and she never complains. They lay with her, dress her up and just the other day, my daughter put a hair tie on her ears. They were on top of her head like sumo wrestlers ponytails. Of course, I had to take  a picture of her 'cause she's so darn pretty.

I can't thank this organization enough for bringing her to us. We are totally in love with this dog. She loves us unconditionally. She is a wonderful girl. Rarely, does she do anything she shouldn't. It almost brings me to tears to think about how much she means to this family. We love and adore her to the ends of the earth and never would have known about her if it weren't for this group. It warms my heart to know we help other families feel the same way when we send our fosters home. Thanks again BAR.  With Deep Gratitude,   Larry, Allyson, Kyra and Samuel

10/4/05 - I thought I'd drop a line on our best girl. I was reading her old updates and wow, I can't believe she ever behaved that way.

Darlah never needed any formal training after she was adopted. We've taught her everything she needs to know. Stay, come, down, shake, etc. and very obedient on the occasional off leash session. She doesn't pick the garbage anymore, except the interesting can with a pullup in it. She also doesn't jump on the counters. Darlah still tends to be the protective one, as she barks when people come to the door. The 80 some year old Avon lady startled her last week. Darlah was keeping a close eye on those leaves blowing around the yard and the Avon lady came onto the porch and let's just say I'm glad there's glass in our screen door. She's never vicious, but always cautious and alert.

Darlah loves car rides and she's a wonderful traveling companion. She's a wonderful girl, period. She's allowed to roam the house at night, but has a tendency to act up when you're gone, so she's crated when we leave. She's got no issues of any kind with the crate, anymore. She is told in, by everyone from 4 to 38 and it's never a problem.

I took her to visit my mom's labs, they are great girls, super friendly. Darlah and them wandered around the back yard like they were old pals. So, nice to see she can get along with other dogs. Our recent fosters have had issues and we were beginning to wonder if she, perhaps, was being a bit of a princess.

Darlah is a very big girl. She's a firm 78 lbs. She is super playful and an all around great dog. She has a special bond with each member of this family. She's always been so comforting to me. I was unable to sleep one night and when the clock rounded 2:30 am I couldn't bear it any longer. I called her on the bed, she sandwiched herself between my husband and I (no easy task, we're two good size people!) and there she lay, while I played with her ears and listened to her breathe. I'm
not sure when, but shortly after that I was asleep. She left me sometime during the night, but only to make her rounds on the children, I'm sure.

Darlah knows the sounds of the families vehicles, ours, my parents, my father-in-laws truck and she only dances when she hears them. She is always excited to get a visit from Grandpa or Mema and Poppa. Everyone that meets her just loves her. She's a good girl and easy on the eyes. She makes us smile and brings us so much joy. She has a million little nicknames, including sausage tail, her little nubby is so chubby, and funny, she knows them all. She is always careful around my son who uses crutches to walk and when my infant nephew came, she was as gentle as could be.

This family is one year into the courtship of Darlah and it is a match made in heaven. Thank you BAR. This girl has touched our lives and we are the better for it.

5/9/05 - I feel like Darlah has always been mine. She is so loved by this family. Quite often I find myself taking her into bed with me when I read and playing with her ears. She is such a big moosh. The kids hug her and fuss with her constantly. I remember a time when she wasn't so sure about them. She is such a good girl, my seven year old can walk her. She listens when corrected, if she should try to chase a bird. She has particular interest in birds or anything the wind blows for that matter.

Darlah has been doing terrific. I think she's put on a little weight, so I want to be sure to get her thyroid checked. We haven't changed her diet any, so I know it isn't that. She continues to grow hair. It's quite thick in some areas, but when she was scraped for mange, her coat she worked so hard to get, was scraped with it. That spot hasn't grown back yet. Darlah has a new foster sister and they do not get along, but we're managing. We've bought another crate and that has helped immensely. She is a dominant girl, but I thinks she senses that the foster has issues. If it were up to Darlah, I think she would have made friends with her by now. We have tried to curb the dominance issues, as I want to continue to foster and would hate to have her so miserable.

Darlah is the best companion and this family couldn't be happier with her. She is very much a part of our lives. She has a morning routine, like the rest of the family. Getting everybody off to school and work, and settling in with her when the madness is over. She is just a peach and I don't know where our lives would be without her. We look forward to coming home to her and recieving all the love she has to give us. She wiggles like mad and kisses nonstop.

We adore this dog and we couldn't be happier. She's a real pal and this family has one really special bond with her.

3/27/05 - Darlah has been officially adopted by her foster family.  We wish them many years of happiness.

3/27/05 - She's been very sweet and very cuddly.  And she has been very good at sitting to get a treat .She likes to be petted.  From Darlahs Sister,Kyra
Darlah is very loved in this family. Everyone adores her, my parents, my in-laws, my nieces, everyone. She is just a great girl. We have let her free in the house twice. No problems, well, other than worming her way onto our bed. My husband and I aren't little people so squeezing her into the bed, when quite often our son has made his way in, as well, makes for very cramped quarters. But, she didn't do anything in the house, chew or potty.
Darlah was finally spayed last week. She is also showing up positive for mange, but we'll try some other things recommended by the vet and the rescue and hope that gets it cleared up.
Please think of Darlah on the 7th of April. That is her birthday and she will be two. We are very grateful to have her in our family. I can't explain how good this dog makes me feel. She brings such joy to our hearts. We have a lot of fun with her and we can't wait until the summer when she can be outside more.
Soon, we hope to make our adoption official. Darlah knows she's not going anywhere, but I can't wait to make it all legal.

1/30/05 - I think it's time for a quick note on my girl. Let's start with her beautiful coat. That's right, I said coat. Not the pretty purple fleece she's been wearing, but a lovely fawn coat of fur, of her very own. She's still experiencing some baldness around the neck and hindquarters, but her coat is simply marvelous darling. It is such a great color. It is a bit thin yet, but will continue to fill in, to some degree. So, she'll be on the thyroid med, indefinitely, and that should resolve her hairless problem.

Darlah can't get enough attention. She always wants to be near you. Everywhere you go, there she is, even the bathroom. She is only allowed on our bed, once in a while, when we're all in there just hangin' out and she slowly inches her way up there. Yeah, hello, no one is going to notice a 75lb mound of fur laying on your bed?.. She's quite protective. When I pretend to cry with the kids or horse around with my husband, she's right there to investigate and put things to a stop. She's quite the mother that way. She doesn't like it when the kids get hurt and cry or when their play gets too loud. So, when she comes over licking us like mad, we tend to cool it until she's out of the room.

Darlah's not too keen on sharing her snacks. Her daughter Rizzo will try to sneak in but she's havin' none of that. She growls until she backs away. You know, cause she never gets treats here. No, not ever. If I give one to Rizzo while I'm teaching her things, I feel I have to give one to Darlah too, just to be fair. Just like with the kids.

Darlah is a real sweet girl and I'm so happy she came into our lives. I can't wait to make it official. So, when she gets her next skin scraping, hopefully that will come back clean as well and we can follow through with the adoption. She's been healthy, no issues with her heart murmur and responding well to all of her meds. She's a great pal and our whole family loves her. I'll have to post a picture of her with her new coat. She's just not the same dog that came to us.

12/14/04 - Darlah, Dar is doing so well. The vet thought maybe there was something else going on with her hair loss, so she ran a thyroid test and wouldn't you know, the level is low. So, she's on a supplement and hopefully her hair will start to fill in more fully. Otherwise, we're waiting to do a skin scraping, in order to make her officially ours. She even has her own stocking and a place on my desk at work. She's really part of the family and fitting in just fine. Did I mention how much I love this dog? No? Well, this family adores her and we couldn't dream of having any other gal. Maybe, one that doesn't think she's a lap dog. Nah, I like this 75lb lap dog, just fine.

11/7/04 - Just a quick note on Darlah, from the house of murmurs. Yup, that's right, momma here has a heart murmur too. Although, judging by her rambunctious nature, you would never know it. She'll be given a good once over before she's adopted, but I just want to tell you this one thing. Darlah is the resident bad girl. In part, because she can go anywhere in the house and that leaves it open for season, in her opinion. But, after a particularly stressful week at work, I have a long weekend. Yesterday, the children were "getting along", as siblings do and I was ready to quit. I sat on the couch and my friend comes over to me and plops down on my feet. I scratched her head and she looked at me and we connected. I played with her ears and scratched her neck and she brought me back to a level of sanity. I talked to her and I know she didn't get one word I was saying, but my point is, she knew I needed her. I am not giving her anything she isn't giving this family, ten-fold. I am grateful to have her in our lives and when you adopt a rescue, you'll understand too. Not this one, of course, cause she's mine.

10/24/04 - I can't tell you how much I just love this dopey dog. She has such a funny face, full of wrinkles. Darlah's hair is filling in wonderfully. She doesn't look like the same dog that came here. She is truly a people gal. Darlah is all wiggles when the children play with her. She runs around the living room at warp speed and then stops right in front of my daughter. The second she giggles she takes off running again. Darlah is a big chewer, so we have bought her tons of toys to occupy her. She is getting better about things that aren't hers, but we still have to be very careful with her, as she will make off with just about anything. She still tries to make her way on the furniture, although less frequently. We plan to adopt Darlah just as soon as we get the ok. She's everything we have wanted in a companion and I can't imagine her being anywhere, but here. She is super friendly, but she will bark the minute she hears a vehicle even so much as slow down in front of the house. We're getting her set up for obedience training, in the spring. We'll be sure to keep you updated on this fabulous girl.

10/06/04 - Justice has finally made her way off the leash, in the house. She has become very good with the children. She can't wiggle enough when my daughter gets off the bus. She does however, not like to be alone, if she's not crated. We "tested" her the other day. So, I came home to find the rug in the entryway, in a big pile, next to a big pile of ....., a nice chewy bone in about 18 pieces and her bed right in the middle of the floor. I think she was trying to tell me something. Something like, "Duh, don't leave me alone in the house while you go shopping because I will punish you." So, she received a firm no, which didn't make her real happy, but shortly after I began to clean up the mess, I rubbed her belly and told her I loved her. She was fine after that, all was forgiven. She is great in the crate and I'm sure with the proper training, she will tolerate being left alone. She's still quite young and clearly, was allowed to run amuck prior to coming into rescue, as she has no manners. She is however, a truly sweet dog. She loves to give kisses. She is also real playful, lots and lots of energy. Justices hair is growing back in nicely. She saw the vet this evening and he said she looks good and as soon as her skin heals, she's off to be spayed. He also said her eyelids are growing into her eye, which may require surgery, but he also said that she may outgrow this. Time will tell. Justice has a beautiful face and personality that cannot be communicated through a computer monitor. She will love you to the ends of the earth, if only you let her be a part of your family.

10/03/04 - Justice, in many ways is still a pup, is starting to learn things here. She has learned that she can jump the gate to be with her family. She has learned that she likes it much better when her puppies are sleeping on one side of the gate and she is on the other... On a blanket... In my room.. On the floor.. Next to her favorite person, my husband. She has also learned we are a bunch of suckers and she loves to pass out kisses. Justice is a very sweet dog. She enjoys the attention of everyone that comes into the home and everyone loves her. She is learning that she is not to be on the couch, but nevertheless she tries every time someone is there who might give her a bit of attention. Justice needs some training, she doesn't sit, she kind of knows stay and yeah pretty much that's it. So, she will need the patience of someone willing to train her that a poopy diaper is not a midnight snack!! EEWW:0)

9/30/04 - I almost hate to write this update. We just love this girl. Justice is an excellent dog. However, she thinks she's a lap dog. I haven't had her weighed, but judging by her records and the size of her paws now, 65lbs is slightly understated. Justice has a few bad habits, she's far too interested in the garbage and whatever is on the counter. She is a jumper and thinks she belongs on the furniture. She is not too sure about our son. He's three. He crawls a lot of the time, as he can't always maneuver his walker around our home. So, one day he was crawling and quacking like a lunatic and she growled. Either she has issues with a forty pound crawling duck or she simply didn't know what to make of him. She has growled at him before, but not teeth bearing. I still think she's getting the feel for everyone. She is terrific with our seven year old daughter. She watches her intently as she waits for the school bus in the morning and wiggles endlessly when she comes home. She adores men. She has a particular fondness for my husband. Justice is a bit of a barker, but only because she's protecting her family. We have our kit./dining room gated off with Justice and her pups, but if she wants to be with us and she just jumps the gate. She does not want to be left alone in the kitchen with her babies, if your not there with her. She had issues the first few days with the crate, but she has improved tremendously and now goes in without any "help". She needs a verbal command and in she goes. She recently had pups, yes Calla and Rizzo, and she's very cautious with them. Justice also suffers from demodex mange. She is bald. She appears black, but that is all bare skin. Justice's hair is actually starting to grow back in. You can see it in the sunlight. She is getting ointment in her eye two times a day and a shot once a week for the mange. Justice is already on a feeding and walking schedule. She is, without a doubt, housebroken. You say outside and she starts this little dance. She is fed in the morning and evening. More to come on Justice!
