3/8/05 -First- please accept my apologies for entering my update late, March was here before I knew it- then I've been battling a severe Chronic Fatigue Flare & seeing the Dr's. Im here to tell my little girls tale-
My husband, Kevin & I, & our 2 dogs, 'Devon' (yellow lab)& 'Nelson' (Wheaten terrier) drove the 4 1/2hrs to meet Sabrina. It was imperative that our dogs meet her, Sabrina was going to be their sister, as much as another 'child' to Kev & I. Sabrina won our hearts right away.  I'm not sure about Devon though as Sabrina, not being around dogs with tails was enchanted with Devons long tail,& all she wanted to do was to catch it! :) Sabrina was accepted by all, so we were going to spend the night in the hotel & come back & pick her up the next morning. Nelson our terrier, had had a hard day, he's a bit of a home body, and by time we had to ride in the elevator to get to our hotel room, that was enough to send the poor soul over the edge. He didn't sleep all night, so of course Mom didn't either. I was too worried. He was quite grumpy with Sabrina the next day when we picked her up, the ride home was peaceful as they slept. Then when we got home, the 3 of them played like they had been friends forever. Once on his own turf- Nelson accepted Sabrina with out any problem. All 3 of them are best of friends now. They bonded right away. Even the cats were on the floor level by day 2, so that transition went very smoothly! We have had our share of problems with her, but for every problem, we have double the joy- she is our little baked bean! She did have the bad habit of not only talking back, but barking when being scolded. Talking is acceptable, but the barking is not.
I also felt her actions may be a early stage of aggression, which we later found was true, we wanted to stop it before it went to far. She pushed Daddy's buttons to far, & when he got mad, and yelled in his mad voice- that's all it took. Now when we say 'no bark' she knows what we mean. One night-She nipped at my Mom twice; & the next night, which I witnessed she tried it again.  This is what I mean by the aggressive behavior. Mom was trying to gently get her off the couch so she could lie down, and Sabrina didn't want to get off. When I saw her do it, she was scolded & grounded from getting on the couch for a while, she hasn't done it again. She is very smart, and learns so quickly.
We still cant figure out why she did that, Mom was being so gentle-  She jumped our 4' fence & chased down a greyhound dog & owner who was walking by-the greyhound tried to attack Sabrina. Again, Kev had to be stern- we can only hope she is really learning, & does
not repeat these actions.
On the other side of the fence- so to speak, she doesn't have to be tied up when Kev goes to the farm, she loves to play with my niece and nephew & the horses & goats. She runs in the fields when Kev is out in them, & always staying by his side. Her Stomach disorder is fine, & her 1st vet apt. went famously. We have found a place to get her meds much cheaper by bulk. Her and one of our cats are best buddies- though neither would probably admit it if you asked! She's adapted very smoothly and quickly, and is nothing more than a typical puppy- which we love with all hearts. We will never be able to thank all of you enough for bring us together!
Last but not least, we have changed her name to Gabby. She came to it- right away. She's such a talker- it just seems to be appreciate.
I have some wonderful photos, and will figure out how to get them on the site, but first the dogs Grandma and I are going on a road trip to my Moms farm in NY state, so will have to tackle that upon my return.
My best to you Kerry, and know I think of you so very often, sorry I haven't been in touch like I would like to have been. Its just been pretty crazy here.
Again, thank you for our little girl, our little brown bean!

1/31/05 - You were so right when you said how smart Sabrina is, we stopped a few times going home, one time, I went in by myself for coffee- Kevin said she watched for me, from the drivers seat (where I had been) and even though a lot of other women came out she never got excited until she saw me- We found it amazing that this early into her becoming our little girl, she recognized me that quickly, and responded as fast.
All 3 dogs settled down and slept most of the way home, though, Nelson I could tell was very much ill at ease. He is defiantly a home boy, and does not like to go 'on the road', and I do think this will be his last trip out of town to anywhere. As soon as we hit the town line, He knew where he was, and he perked up, by time we got to our main st. we put the window down so he could put his head out a little, and he was improving by the second. Once he was in through the gate, into the yard, he was barking and running and wagging his tail, and he and Sabrina started playing immediately.
They have been buddies ever since- Nelson is having a hard time getting used to the fact that he is not the quickest 4 legged wonder dog in the yard anymore- :) Brina runs circles around him, and that is just so funny to see him a bit frustrated, that he loses track of her. Nel is the barker of the three- once and a very great while, I'll hear Dev's deep 'rooof', but very rarely do we hear barking during play while they are outside from Brina. She will talk, which we love to hear. Our hearts are so happy, as we have not seen Nelson and Devon play like they do now with Brina, since Grimmy passed away. They really have been very very lonely- even more so than imaginable. Now that Nel and Dev are on their home turf, they are back to their selves, and are relaxed and it shows in all their action and reactions with Sabrina. They get along like they were meant to be together. Our home is complete again, it is once again full of life and happiness.
Sabrina has fit right in from the get go- she shows no separation anxiety or depression, which I'm grateful for. She seems completely happy, and is just trying to figure out how things are done around here- she's finding most things are ok, and she doesn't get in trouble very much- just Mom is a little nervous and protective, but I can't help that.
She's just what Dev and Nelson needed, as well as Daddy and Mommy- and Grandma'ma loves her to pieces too.

1/29/05 - Sabrina has been adopted

1/26/05 - Sabrina is pending adoption.

1/14/05 - I decided to write in about my foster girly Sabrina as I have some great news to report. Drum roll please....... Sabrina has gained 5 pounds since coming to us a little over 2 months ago. I was convinced she looked a little fatter and my husband told me I was crazy so we hopped on the scale and she is up to 46 pounds. Now the first foster I ever had Sassy gained 25 pounds in her month her with us but I am truly happy Sabrina has gained 5. Another 10 pounds and she will probably look perfect she doesn't look like she has the tendency to be a really large boxer. Sabrina's new set of manners will knock your socks off. Last night my Mom came over and Sabrina was so good about letting her come in without all the pay attention to me antics my Mom sat down on the couch and Sabrina just climbed up and sat with her. Sabrina actually walked away from the cat first this morning which was a first. Usually the cat walks away first but Tasha our kitty was rubbing up underneath Sabrina's belly and I think Sabrina actually found someone else annoying for the first time.

It's important to know when thinking about Sabrina that she is very vocal about her playing with lots of growling and barking. If Maddie has a toy that Sabrina wants she will sit there and whine at Maddie. She has a loud bark when people come to the door but does not bark when the kids are out playing in the yard or when the neighbors are out. She will whine if she sees the other dogs out and that is really because she wants to play. Sabrina does not have a mean bone in her body and has no malice intent towards anyone human or fur. Her vocal abilities are truly just a part
of her personality. Hence the nickname my daughter has given her. As I write Sabrina and Maddie are playing a game of tug. It still cracks me up that Maddie just stands there and turns around while Sabrina runs circles around her. What a sweat heart this girl is I can't imagine what my house will be like without her. I never go to long between fosters as to help fill void and even though a new foster doesn't replace the past one in my heart it certainly helps. Sabrina is a great girl and has come such a long way all she is waiting for now is to complete her journey.

1/04/05 - It was 2 months ago today that our foster girl Sabrina came to be a part of our family until her forever family comes along. Honestly I can't imagine what our house will be like without her. She brings so much life and energy into our home. She keeps our resident boxer Maddie on her toes and I feel like having a young dog in the house keeps Maddie younger. Although she enjoyed being a couch potato with our past fosters she truly enjoys playing and Sabrina loves to play. With us Sabrina wants to wrestle and she gets rough we make her go get a toy when she wants to play like that to divert her attention from becoming the newest member of the WWE. We have also noticed that she doesn't like it if we play rough with the kids and our 6 year old son is all boy and loves to jump on us and is always looking to wrestle. I swear it must be a genetic code for boys because he is not even allowed to watch wrestling. Sabrina has gotten 100% better with our 2 year old now that she isn't pushing for my attention all the time.
She has actually calmed down a lot. Not that she is truly calm but she does know when to stop. If not she goes in the crate which she does with no problems. My daughter has become very fond of Sabrina and call her "my ro ro" When I was at the vets office the other day picking up Sabrina's meds I was talking about her being adopted and my son was with me he looked up and said " when Sabrina leaves your going to cry and
then when I go to bed you'll probably cry some more" He's right I will cry when she leaves just like the others before. We truly put all our heart and soul into making these babies a part of our family and that is why it's hard to let go.
Sabrina is going to be a great companion for someone. She has a heart of gold and such a personality. Her personality will win you over in a second because it is very unique. I smile every time she talks back to my husband with her famous "ro ro".
Sabrina is waiting patiently for her forever home and we know it is out there. Of course she has no idea there is another step in her life's journey and I know when she goes she will look at me as if to say where am I going but she will make another home as complete as she has made ours even when she is making us crazy.

12/27/04 - We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday we sure did although it was busy. Our little Sabrina spent Christmas amongst all the presents interested in everything that was being opened. Today we have 2 extra kids in the house, my nieces are visiting for the day (5&7) and Sabrina said her good mornings as only she knows how with lots of licking and over all excitement but as soon as everyone said good morning to her she left them alone. Before we used to have to crate her because she would get way to excited and knock everyone over. Now all we have to do is say "do you need to go in the crate" and the behavior usually stops. I find this amusing because my infamous words to my kids which I think most parents can attest to is " do you need a time out" and it works. Sabrina is better about being crated during the day if we are gone and doesn't put up a fight about going in. I think moving the crate into the living room was a smart move this way she is with Maddie but not out roaming the house. I figure since the crate works we might as well use it. This way I know she is not getting into anything. I wish I could say we have put a little meat on her bones but we haven't we will continue to try though as long as she is with us. Sabrina has been with us for almost 2 months now and she really is happy and content here as part of our family which is one of the reasons letting go of them is so hard. I know there is a family out there waiting for Sabrina and they will think she is perfect.
One of Sabrina's favorite things to do is steal socks right off the kids feet when they are running around like animals themselves. Outside she likes to play chase she will also chase the kids feet when they are swinging on the swing set. If she gets to be to much we bring her back inside but more often then not the kids find this amusing. We have tried really hard to get her to stop chasing our feet and most of the time she stops but with the kids she thinks they are playing. A home with kids would be fun for Sabrina as long as the kids were understanding and tolerable of her antics as well as parents who understand that she really is just playing and has no intention of harming anyone.
Sabrina continues to do very well in our home with all members of the family. She and Maddie still play all the time and she still has her crazy relationship with the cat. Sabrina is waiting for you :)

12/17/04 - So I see everyone is taking their time deciding if Sabrina is the right girl for them and that's OK with us. We would only want her to go to the right home.
The official name for Sabrina's medical problem is Pancreatic Acinar Atrophy big name to say her body does not produce enough pancreatic enzymes. Pancreatic enzymes are what allow us to break down our food and absorb it. With medication producing her enzymes for her she is fine. Her medication is an added expense of about $86 per month, but we feel the truly perfect family for her will think she is worth it. It would be like me loving my children less because the asthma medication they take is to expensive. Or like the diabetic who needs insulin every day. When Sabrina first came here she was not on the medication and had been off it for some time. What we saw was loose stool and her eating everything in sight. She was not throwing up or having explosive diarrhea all over my house. In fact she
only went to the bathroom once in my house and that was when she first came her and we did not know how to read her.
Is Sabrina perfect? No, but honestly who is. She gets very excited when people come in and will bite at your pant legs if you don't pay attention to her. She gets time away and calms right down. Remember Sabrina is still a puppy so this behavior is expected but we are working on correcting it. Sabrina is house trained, crate trained gets along great with our resident boxer Maddie and with the resident kitty Tasha. Sabrina has gotten 90% better with the kids she no longer jumps although she never jumped on our 2 year old just pushed her over a lot.
Sabrina's medical condition does not make her a sickly frail little dog and honestly you can't even tell there is anything wrong with her.
Sabrina deserves a loving devoted home but if you are still deciding about this girl we will keep loving her and continue to be devoted foster parents as long as it takes. We would love to find Sabrina her perfect forever home but I know she is happy here and that's what makes this so rewarding. We look forward to giving another chance the same one we have given Sabrina. I know if you open your heart to her she will be the best friend you've been looking for.

12/10/04 - Sabrina is in her fifth week in our home and every day we become more attached to her. You can't help but love her even when she is being a fresh little puppy. All of her behaviors are getting much better and she has even gotten better with my 2 year old at least now we can change her diaper with out Sabrina coming over and sitting on her.
Sabrina went with me on a home visit the other night and I was so proud of her. She was so well behaved and truly showed this home why boxers are the greatest dogs ever(in my opinion anyway). She was such a good girl I couldn't praise her enough.
Please don't let the thought that Sabrina needs meds daily scare you off about her. She is not some sickly little dog with no zest for life. In fact she is the total opposite. Even the vet said he would have never known she had a digestive problem unless you told him her symptoms. The medicine she has mixed into her food helps her digest and as long as she is on the meds she is fine. Sabrina does all her business outside and never messes in the house or her crate.
Sabrina has a heart of gold and we make her a part of everything we do. I really make it a point to treat all my fosters like they are members of my family and all of my fosters have truly blessed me in some way and Sabrina is no exception to that. She continues to do great here with all members of the family including the resident queen boxer Maddie and our cat Tasha. Sabrina try's to establish herself as the dominant female and our Maddie is fine with that. Maddie does let Sabrina know when she has had enough though. I think Sabrina would do great in a family home that will continue working on her behavior. Maybe a Mom/Dad who are home, a boxer sibling that will
tolerate her puppy play and some kids who will throw tennis balls for her and play a game of tug.
Sabrina adjusted to our home and our schedule very quickly and I know she could do it again. Please take the time to look at this little girl. As much as my family and I would love to have her as our own we could not continue with our foster efforts if we did.

12/6/04 - Sabrina has been with us for a whole month now I really can't believe it has been that long already. Time sure flies when your having fun and that is what Sabrina is a whole lot of fun. Sure her manners still need some improvement but she has come a long way.
Yesterday we loaded up the car with both the skin kids and fur kids and went to a Christmas tree farm to cut down our tree. Now I am a person who always carries a camera and wouldn't you know I forgot it. I wish I had it though because it was lots of fun to watch Sabrina inspecting all the tree's.
Sabrina is still doing great here and is actually starting to mellow out a little. She will actually take a break from playing or following me around. We are still working on her jumping it has gotten a lot better but the other day when my son came in the house after being outside all day she was so excited to see him that she jumped on him. Not only did she jump on him but she sent him flying backwards and he landed on his bottom. He did not find this to amusing (I had to giggle if you saw it you probably would have too) he is 6 and weighs 58 pounds and she really tackled him. So if your looking for a football partner Sabrina might be the girl your looking for.
Please don't let the thought of her meds scare you off about this little girl it really isn't a big deal. The meds simply get mixed into her food 20 minutes prior to her eating it.
Sabrina and Maddie continue to get along great and Maddie has even accepted Sabrina's puppy antics and now Maddie actually seeks Sabrina out to play. I love watching them Maddie will just stand with the toy in her mouth and Sabrina will try taking it from her by running all around and jumping on her. Sabrina also cheats when playing where Maddie only uses her mouth Sabrina will use her feet to try and knock the toy out of Maddie's mouth. I think Sabrina would benefit from having a sibling she is learning a lot from Maddie. I also think she would benefit from having a owner who was home more often then not. We still crate her if and when we go out and she doesn't like to be in there she whines and barks for 20 minutes before she settles down but she does settle down and is fine. We have found no evidence that she chews or digs at the crate. At night she sleeps in a crate in our room and is fine she goes right in and falls right to sleep with no whining at all. We are going to try moving the crate into the living room the next time we go out so she can at least be in the same room with Maddie and see if that helps during the day.
Please consider Sabrina as your own. I am sure even with her few bad habits that she will make your home a very happy one. She is a good girl and even when she gets into something she is not supposed to she looks up at you with those big brown eyes and you can't help but fall for her. She is so cute and everyone she meets just loves her. Make Sabrina's Christmas wish come true and make her a part of you family.

11/28/04 - So here we are our third week with little Miss Sabrina is over. It truly amazes me how well these boxer babies adjust. Sabrina is my 7th foster and each foster has a different story some are worse then others (not Sabrina's) but they all seem to open their hearts to you like they know you are the person saving them.
Sabrina continues to do very well at our home and she proves to us each day what a good, smart dog she is. She also proves to us each day that she is your typical boxer pup. Sabrina goes to the other room now when we are eating (usually with out being told) She sits and waits for me to put down her food bowl before eating. Last night she even asked to go outside that was the first time she has done that. I truly am amazed every day at the progress she has made. She continues to do well with our resident queen Maddie and her and the cat have forged some sort of crazy relationship.
One of the funniest things about Sabrina is where she chooses to sit. She does not sit on the couch but on top of it perched up there as if to say "look at me, aren't I the cutest thing you've ever seen" Another thing that makes me laugh about Sabrina is no matter how much you come in and out of the house she is always very excited to see you and she picks up the nearest shoe and starts running through the house with it. Sabrina does not chew the shoes just runs around with them. Sabrina has chewed some things like crayons, plastic army men, a toothbrush she stole from the garbage. We simply re-direct her giving her a firm no and giving her something of her own. She is still a puppy so chewing is a natural thing. Another thing that really hasn't gotten much better is her understanding of my 2 year old so I am recommending she got to a home with older kids say 5 and up. She still pushes her over a lot and if my daughter is standing next to me or sitting on my lap Sabrina pushes her out of the way. It's kind off funny I have to tell them to take turns.
Sabrina would make a lovely addition to a family. She is doing so well and is doing well on her meds. Sabrina is a young girl who has her whole life ahead of her just waiting to make you smile like she does us. She is a sweet sweet girl just looking for that special family.

11/21/04 - Well little miss Sabrina has been with us for 2 weeks now and everyday we see progress in her behavior. When she first came I thought oh my how are we going to tame this wild child. Through a lot of patience, time and energy we are coming along. A milestone was reached last night at dinner. As the whole family sat down to eat my husband told Sabrina to go lay down (as he cannot stand dogs begging at the table) and she did with out us physically brining her in there and making her lay down.
I think it is safe to say Sabrina can go to a home with a cat as long as the cat is tolerable of a little game of chase now and again. I also believe Sabrina would benefit from a boxer sibling although one who can put up with her antics. Sabrina is very vocal in her play and can get really crazy with her playmates. I don't think it is necessary that she has a sibling but her forever family would then need to be prepared to play with her constantly. If she is not playing with our Maddie she is looking to play with one of us.
Sabrina's protection level is pretty average she barks when people come to the door. We have to hold her to let people in because she gets so excited. If she gets overly excited we give her 5 minutes in the crate to calm herself down and the she is fine. Sabrina is still proving to be a little to much for my 2 year old. She is just so unaware of her body and space that she does a lot of knocking over.
We were able to start Sabrina on the meds that had been working for her and I'm already starting to see some improvement in that area as well. I hope once she has been on it for awhile it will start to help curb her appetite for people food that is not so good for her stomach.
Sabrina is a really good girl and with the right family she will continue to grow into that boxer that everyone dreams of. She is super smart. Sabrina can jump too she reminds me of my Maddie when she was younger. Sabrina can clear a set of stairs in one leap. She however has made no attempt to jump the fence even with all the temptations on the other side. Please consider Sabrina as your own we have been working really hard with her and she in turn has been working really hard for us. I will hate to Sabrina go as she has brought a lot of joy into our home but I know she needs a family of her own that can pamper her like a princess and keep up with her.
PS - I just updated Sabrina's page yesterday so I'm not really due for an update I really just wanted to share something with the group. Please give a huge round of applause to Sabrina who tonight at dinner went right into the other room and laid down without being told. We are super proud of her. She has come a long way in her 2 weeks here. I guess I am amazed at how fast they learn and can be taught. Our Maddie is almost 6 so it has been awhile since we really trained a dog.

11/14/04 - Little princess Sabrina has been with us a week now and every day I am amazed at how far she has come. Believe me we have a ways to go yet but things are much better. For example Sabrina now sits and waits for a treat and she doesn't even have to be asked to sit she just does it. When she first came she would jump up and snatch the treat right out of your hands. When I take out the vacuum she just watches it go back and forth I just tell her no before I get started. Before she would bite the vacuum cleaner so hard she would lift it right off the floor. I was so afraid she was going to break a tooth. Walking has gotten better as well she still pulls like crazy but she is not turning around and using her leash as a pull toy anymore. She even sits in the other room when we are eating. She has also gotten better with my 2 year old and is not sitting on her as much. The one thing that is not getting better is her counter/table surfing. She will eat whatever she gets her paws on. This is not ideal for a little girl with tummy trouble. Last night she helped herself to a whole box of donut holes. Sabrina and Maddie still get a long great. Sabrina and the cat are a sight to see yesterday Sabrina was barking her full head off at the cat and Tasha just sat there. I was thinking to myself ugh maybe cats aren't such a good idea but then last night the 2 of them were sleeping together on the couch. Sabrina truly has no intention on hurting the cat she is just a typical dog and chases from time to time. Sabrina is very good about sleeping in the crate at night but whines if you put her in there during the day. Oh boy I almost forgot this one and it is huge... Sabrina got out the other day and I thought this is it.. I've lost my first foster dog although I could see her next door. Sabrina's favorite game by far is chase and it usually takes two people to catch her. Well, we whistled and called her name and much to my surprise and pleasure she came right back in. I was very proud of her and so happy she listened because I thought for sure I was going to be chasing her through the neighborhood. Please consider Sabrina for your own she really is a good girl and we have seen amazing changes in her. She is a spunky little thing. My 2 year old has begun calling her ro ro and I think it's because of Sabrina's vocal abilities. When your talking to her she talks back especially if you are reprimanding her. Sabrina needs a good strong owner with lots of time and love to give.

11/10/04 - Sabrina has been with us for a couple of days now and every day is getting better. We are working really hard at gaining our good puppy manners. Sabrina walks better on the leash when there is nothing exciting distracting her. She walks to school with my son and does fine till we actually get to the school and she gets so excited by the kids that she automatically goes for the leash to play tug with it.
Maddie our resident boxer and Sabrina get along very well. I really wish we could send in video footage because the 2 of them we really funny this morning. Maddie had a toy in her mouth and Sabrina came and snatched it right out of her mouth then it became a game of chase. They went back and forth snatching the toy then chasing each other for a good 45 minutes.
Sabrina is still proving to be a bit much for our 2 year old she knocks her over a lot with her puppy antics, she also thinks she can sit on her. When your changing her diaper she will come over and lay down on top of her. Delaney is pretty good about it and we just keep correcting her behavior but if you have a young one that is not so tolerable then Sabrina is not the girl for you.
My house was pretty calm yesterday which in turn made Sabrina nice and calm. Sabrina still continues to be very vocal in her play and is still trying to prove she wants to be the alpha female. She does a lot of resting her head over the top of Maddie and then throwing her leg over her. Sabrina does OK with the cat sometimes she leaves her alone sometimes she chases her. She has no malice intent towards the cat.
Please remember if you are looking to adopt this wonderful, playful, loveable little girl that she comes with some maintenance. She needs meds added to her food at every feeding to help her digest. Lets face some women are just higher maintenance then others and we all know there is someone out there willing to indulge us :)

11/8/04 - It was with heavy hearts that Sabrina's owners had to surrender her to BAR but they knew it was in her best interest. Sabrina has a problem digesting her food and needs medication added to her food at every feeding in order to help her. Other then that Sabrina is a healthy happy dog. So far I would say she can go to a home with other dogs and even with cats. She gets along great with our Maddie and has been good with the cat. She is very curious about the cat but means her no harm.
Sabrina has been very good with my kids 6 and 2 but she can be a bit much for my 2 year old. She is very jumpy and we are going to work on that. She spent the day yesterday with one of our nearby foster homes and did great with the 3 dogs that resided there.
Sabrina is crate trained and housebroken. She would benefit from someone being home more often then not because she does need to be let out frequently due to her digestive problems. Sabrina is very much your typical puppy. She loves shoes and she doesn't destroy them she just carries them around. Also I have noticed her fondness for laundry socks mainly clean or dirty doesn't matter she walks around with them in her mouth as well. Sabrina is very vocal about her playing she growls and barks a lot but it is all in good fun it is not one bit aggressive. We just tell her to take it easy that Maddie is older then her. Sabrina would probably love a puppy playmate I would say male unless the female is submissive. Sabrina has already shown her need to be the alpha female at my house and also at the foster home she visited yesterday. Lucky for us the 2 females involved are both laid back kinda girls.
Sabrina's digestive problem is controlled with medication and anyone hoping to adopt her she know that she will need to be on this. Sabrina did see my vet today and he said she was one happy healthy dog with no other health concerns. She will lead a very normal typical boxer life with the right family. If your lucky that family could be yours. Stay tuned for more updates on this little cutie.
