2/17/07 - Hi everyone!  It's me, Bowser Morris here!  It's been a year since I adopted my new family, and it has gone by so fast!!  I still am fighting with my allergies, but the Dr. told my mom that she is doing a great job with me, since I am allergic to just about every tree and other things outside!  We now have an air purifier in the house, and I get allergy shots every three weeks and a bath once a week.  I just went through a bad spell because of the mild weather a short time ago, so I was taking prednisone and an antibiotic.  It is so hard being itchy all the time!
My mom and dad are so awesome with me in that they spoil me sooo much!!  I have lots of toys, and lots of hugs and kisses.  My sister, Mitzi who is 13(wow) is really comfortable having me around, we even play sometimes!  Only she doesn't play too long, she is too old!
My mom says that I am really very healthy looking, since when I first got here I only weighed 67 pounds.  Now I weigh 104 pounds!  I am a big guy!!  Just look at my pictures!!
I really enjoy playing with my two skin brothers.  They like to play rough!!  Well, there is nothing else I can think of to say, except that I would like to thank my foster mom, Marylyn R. for taking good care of me before I got my new family, and also thank Gail for helping my mom find me and not give up or yell at my mom for being so persistent!  Also, my mom has become friends with Joann M., who did the phone interview, thank you too!  And thank you to my previous owner for selflessly giving me up to be with my new family!!  Bye for now!!

7/18/06 - It has been 5 months since Bowser accepted us as his new family, and he is so much a part of us
that I can't remember what it was like before he came.  We are still struggling with his allergies,
ESPECIALLY with this weather!  He is miserable!  I am giving him allergy shots,  we started about
2 months ago and it is going well.  He doesn't even mind the needle when I give it to him, my
precious boy!  He will be on a full strength injection in about 10 days, and then we start stretching
the intervals at which he receives the injections.  I hope this eventually helps hi, he doesn't
deserve to be this uncomfortable.  He is one happy fur baby, though!  His beagle sister even will
sometimes give him the time of day, and when that happens, he just wags that little nub until he
could almost take off!  He is not one to jump or kidney bean, and I couldn't understand why.  The vet
thinks that he had some severe knee problems when he was younger that were not addressed properly.
I guess we'll never know what it could be.  He is very happy in spite of all his problems, though!
We love him to death and he has a permanent place in our family and our hearts!  Thanks BAR for a
job well done!!

5/17/06 - Hey all!  Bowsy here!  (That's what mom and dad call me!!)  I am doing o.k., still trying to get my allergies under control, but I am sooooo happy!!  This is the best family ever!!  I started allergy injections today, and I seem to have another skin infection.  I just got over one!  I-yi-yi!!  Mom is really diligent, though.  She is determined to get me feeling better!!  Oh, I almost forgot to tell you all!  At my last weigh-in I weighed 84 lbs.!!  I think I have lost a little since then, but before that, about 6 weeks ago, I only weighed 66 lbs.  I think I am somewhere between 75 and 80 now.  I am as healthy as a horse!! (besides the allergies!)  Here are some new pictures of me. Be happy for me because I am soooo content

4/9/06 - Hello everyone,  Well, I would like to update you all on Bowser.  It seems he has had a setback with his allergies.  He is really suffering right now with the spring and everything growing.  We are waiting for a new medicine.  They are starting him on a trial basis with cyclosporine.  The vet feels if he does well with this, then he will be on it for life.  Wish us luck!!
Otherwise, not much to tell, he is really at home now, he has found his voice and uses it whenever he feels like it!  He really is a comedian!!  We will keep you posted on his allergies!  Thanks BAR for my boy!  Renee

3/26/06 - Hi everyone!  It's me, Bowser!  I have been here for over a month now, and I feel like I have always been here!  We have had some minor changes in the household, since my people brother, Dan, moved out.  My crate is now in his old room.  Sometimes though, I get to stay out of my crate!  I guess that means I am good in the house!  I miss him, but it is exciting when he comes to visit!  I had a blood test for allergies, and the only foods I am allergic to are yeast and.....carrots!  Can you believe carrots?!?!?!  I am also allergic to dust, dust mites, most trees in our area, pollen and external bugs that bite!  Mom's gotta lube me up with Frontline!!  We are still getting the allergies under control, but now that we know what they are, it should be a little easier.  Not much else to tell except that I am sooo happy!!  Thanks BAR for my new family!  Keep up the good work for all of my other doggy friends!!

3/19/06 - Hi!  I just wanted to say that I, Bowser Morris, am a very happy boy!  My allergies are pretty much under control, and I have no more red eyes!  I love my new home, and I really do belong here.  I just wanted to send some pictures and say HI to all the great BAR people who helped me find my new people!  Thanks again!  Love,  Bowser

3/10/06 -I am SOOO happy with my Bowser, and I couldn't have been more pleased with the whole process of adoption, although I wish it didn't take so long!  All of the volunteers and directors for BAR should be extremely proud to be with such a great organization.  What you people do is nothing short of a miracle for these wonderful creatures.
I would like to especially like to thank Tina for my home visit and the wonderful conversation we had, and Gail for putting up with my impatience!  Also Joann M., who did my phone interview, and Marylyn R. who was my baby's foster mommy and kept him happy till I got there.  Without you all, there would be much more pain and sadness for these wonderful fur babies!  Thanks for all you do!!  Renee -mother of Bowser-3 yrs.old

3/5/06 - Hi everyone!  It's me, Bowser!  It's been 2 weeks now since I moved into my new house, and it is terrific!  I have really settled in and become comfortable.  I don't cry or scratch the front door anymore when my mom and dad leave for work.  I have been to see the vet, and I have really bad allergies!  Oooo, they're so itchy!!  My mom says that I am starting to get better, though.  She gave me a bath today with baby shampoo, and I smell and feel sooo good!!  My mom says my fur feels so soft!
Oh, I almost forgot!  Today when my mom went shopping, I jumped on the table and grabbed a bag of  hamburger rolls!  I ate them all, too! (My beagle sister, Mitzi, helped a little).  I think my mom was mad, but she was trying not to laugh, too!  She just kept saying "Oh my Bowser, what am I going to do with you!!"
Well, I just wanted to make you all smile a little, but don't worry, mom won't make that mistake again!  That's all for now,  Love,  Bowser        PS- Don't worry about me, I am soooo happy!
!

2/20/06 - Hi!  Bowser here!  Well, I have only been in my new home for 12 hours, but already love it!  My family LOVES to get the hugs that I love to give, and my new sister Mitzi lets me play with all her toys!  She has lots of tennis balls which mommy says she never plays with, so I am in tennis ball heaven!  I cried when my mom and dad went to bed, so my new people brother let me lay with him in his room, but I really wanted my new mommy.  She let me lay with her and daddy in their bed!  I am so special!  Well, right now my mom wants to play ball, so I'll keep in touch!  Love,
Bowser.....OK mom!  I'm coming!!

2/19/06 - I just wanted to let you know that I really love my new home!  I just ate my dinner with my sister dog, Mitzi, and now I am taking a walk with my dad.  I took a walk earlier with Mitzi and my mom in the woods, but I didn't see why Mitzi made such a fuss! She just sniffed everything!  Oh well, you know beagles!  My dad thinks that my eyes are less red but my nose is still running.  I met both of my brothers and their girlfriends, and I like them all!  They all played with me and let me hug them!!  But the best was last night when my mom and dad let me sleep with them!  I didn't take up much room, but boy do I snore!  My mom also had to put away all her stuffed bears that were in my reach.  I thought they for me!!  Well, time to take a nap with mommy, so I'll let you all know how I'm doing next week.  By the way, my mom says she can't thank you enough for bringing me to her and the rest of the family!!  Who wouldn't love me?!?!?!  Love,  Bowser

2/18/06 - It's 4:30 Saturday afternoon and our Bowser boy just left for his forever home with his mommy, Renee. You could almost see a bond forming between the two of them within minutes of her arrival at the house - Bowser seemed to know that this was going to be "his special human". After we took care of all of the paperwork Rene had to go back out to the car to get his new collar and leash - as soon as she shut the door behind her Bowser started to cry a little...as if to say, "wait - you forgot me!!"
All of us here in Garrison will miss Bowser - but we will smile every time we think of how BAR was once again able to make a family and a doggy so happy by what we do.

2/15/06 - It's been a week since Bowser’s neuter surgery and he has healed up fabulously - no bruising or swelling
at all. And he was such a great patient! As has become the norm - everyone at the vet’s office adored him and all came out to say goodbye when I arrived to take him back home....

I am also thrilled to announce that Bowser has been matched with a WONDERFUL forever family and he will be going home to them on Saturday. It breaks my heart (in a good way) to have to see him go – but I am so very happy for him at the same time.  His forever mommy promised to send pictures and updates once he gets all settled in.  Bowser’s new mommy lost her previous boxer to cancer just a few months ago – so Bowser will be filling a great big void in her life. Once she sees this guys adorable face in person she will fall completely in love with him as I have.

2/7/06 - Bowser just plain has me in stitches tonight!  I fed him a little bit more this evening since his surgery is tomorrow and he can’t eat after 8 pm tonight. We went outside and he did his business then came back in ….I wanted to watch the news so I brought him into the living room and we both sat down. Well, to make a long story short – Bowser looked bored so I gave him the ball that we were playing with outside over the weekend. Within minutes he had me laughing out loud. He would squat down with his paws on either side of the ball just staring at it…..then he would jump up and pounce on it – which of course sent the ball flying. He would then go get the ball and bring it back to the same place in the center of the living room and start the process all over again. When he heard me laughing at him he would stop and stare at me….cocking his head to the side as if to say, “what’s your problem?”
Way too funny. Just had to share.

2/6/06 - It's been a week since Bowser arrived and he continues to be such a wonderful house guest! We had him out in the back yard with my other boxer, Mac, and they played and played and played......chasing balls seems to be one of Bowser's favorite pastimes! He is such a great guy to have around because when you bring him back inside and everything calms down he turns into a king sized snuggle bug.  He has become my television partner......snuggles up to me at night as I watch TV - such a love.

Bowser also loves to romp and play with children. We had kids here ranging from 6 years old to 13 years old this weekend and he was great with them. I think that it is safe to say that Bowser just plain loves humans!
Since Bowser was not crated much in the past year I wasn't sure how he would do with the crate on a day to day basis - but he is absolutely great with it. Although, I must say that if I didn't have other dogs I probably wouldn't need to use the crate with him at all as he has not shown any destructive behavior in the house.

Bowser is quite the driving companion! Really a good boy in the car. We went to see the vet that will be doing his neutering on Wednesday and he was really cute in the car.....almost like a human watching things go by outside the window. The vet thought that he was absolutely gorgeous and couldn't believe that such a handsome guy was in rescue! She told Bowser that "the family that gets you is going to be VERY lucky"!

After our vet visit last week we confirmed that Bowser has some sort of allergy - which is what his surrendering family thought as well. We are treating the issue with Benedryl for the time being. Once he finds his forever home they will no doubt want to test different foods to figure out exactly what it is that his system reacts poorly to. He just gets red eyes and hot spots from the allergy - but the Benedryl alleviates the symptoms.

Well, that is all for today - I just wanted to get a quick update in before Bowser had his surgery this week. This guy is really a gem!

1/30/06 - When I met Bowser and his human in the parking lot where we were doing the transfer yesterday it took only a moment to see that everyone’s hearts were breaking. Bowser’s human was so sad – and Bowser himself seemed to know that all was not right with his world. He stepped into the back seat of my car and just sat there without a peep…..he just had this look in his eyes that told me he was really confused as to what was happening. Within a few miles he lay down and I was glad to see he was able to sleep peacefully for most the ride home. What a good boy!

Bowser checks in at approximately 73 lbs and has just about the biggest feet that I have ever seen on a boxer! He is really a cutie pie. His great big ole head holds the sweetest eyes….when he looks at you all that you want to do is hug him. Which is exactly what he wants you to do because he craves human touch at all times! He slept just fine in his crate the first night that he was here. I actually was ready to waive the “must sleep in a crate rule” because he is such a mush – but the spiral staircase leading to my room scared him and I wasn’t about to have to carry him down if I was actually able to get him up there! Me carrying a wiggling 73 lbs fur baby down a flight of stairs…….now THAT would’ve been a sight!

We went to the vet today and got him all caught up on his shots – I will call the vet back tomorrow to get his neutering scheduled and get test results back.  During our trip to the vet I discovered that Bowser is also very good on a lead and he knows several commands! With his big size it would be a ton of fun to take him on walks in the park because everyone would have to stop to pet him and talk about how handsome he is!! Big fur babies are so fun that way! (smile)

In summary, watch this space closely in the weeks to come because this guy is truly special. He will make a wonderful companion for a family who already has dogs – or as the only fur baby in the house. He is truly a “companion” dog and will love whoever is lucky enough to adopt him with all of his heart. More soon on this special boy……
