Saga of Saving a Senior Boxer

1/28/06 - Yesterday, while at one to the high kill shelters of NY pulling a dog, a lady brought in a very nice looking, clearly Senior male Boxer dog named Champ. I began talking to her and asked what was going on. She said she was moving in 2 weeks and had no place for Champ to go. Her brother was outside crying his eyes out, filled with emotion at giving up the family dog of  9 yrs.  I spoke to the shelter and asked them to please hold off making any decisions while we try to find an alternative for him.
I want to say that I spent over 1/2 hr with him in the lobby area, and was VERY impressed with his behavior. The lobby is a pretty busy place at this shelter, people coming and going, lots of dogs walking thru, both big and small, and the whole time, Champ greeted everyone with a happy tail and calm demeanor. I liked this boy A LOT, and he does deserve a second chance at life.
If anyone feels the same and can help him, please email me and let me know. We can get you set up as a foster home, which means we take care of all expenses, including food, medical care, a crate if needed, all you need to do is provide the love. We all know you can do that.   Thank; Gary

1/29/06 - We have had a wonderful family that has offered to foster Champ, the 9 yr old male that Gary put up the notice about yesterday.  They have completed their interview and reference checks, and only need a home visit.  If there is anyone available in the Kearny, NJ area that could do this visit ASAP we would be so appreciative.  Please email me  if you could conduct this visit and help get this poor old guy out of the shelter and into a nice warm home.  Thanks, Jean

1/30/06 - Thank you to all who replied with an offer to do the Kearny, NJ Home visit for Champ.  Jane M. is doing the home visit on Wednesday.  It is so rewarding to have so many people come forward and want to help get this boy out of the shelter ASAP.  It's makes all the hard we all do worth while.
Thanks again, Jean

1/31/06 - Jane,. what can I say...taking it upon yourself to drive form NJ to Brooklyn to get Champ, our 9 yr old boxer boy who had NO time left...who you are holding overnight and taking on a home visit that will hopefully lead to his very own foster home being approved......you truly did save a life today.
Champ and BAR owe you a debt of gratitude!
Thank you sooo much Jane!!

2/1/06 - Jane and Champ went to Kearny, NJ today to do a home visit for a potential foster-to-adopt home for Champ.  Jane reports:  "I feel this is a good match for Champ. He seemed to be relaxed and loved all the attention. Rusty's barking, the cats walking about and Brianna's petting and playing did not seem to phase him. These ladies are loving and caring pet owners and they could baby sit my babies anytime. They have my approval for fostering and adoption of any BAR boxer."

2/4/06 - Three days after welcoming Champ into their home as a foster-to-adopt dog, Carolyn writes: "As for Champ. He is just great.  We have decided to adopt him and let him live his remaining years with us."

2/24/06 - Champ was neutered today and is all ready to be adopted.

2/26/06 - Champ has officially been adopted by his foster family.
