3/31/06 - Well what
can I say about this handsome fellow. First of all thanks to some
helpful advise from Kim he is doing GREAT with his interactions with
other dogs that he hasn't been introduced to. And I can know leave him
alone in the house and not worry about my home being in shambles!! LOL
He has become a complete gentleman. And I would like to give a big THANK
YOU to Patty for letting us use her crate for sooooo long!! Petey
is an absolute dream dog he loves everybody and everyone who meets him
absolutely falls in love with him. He loves to give us kisses and
sometimes when he gets wagging his butt I swear he's going to break in
half!! lol My 3 year old daughter is his best buddy . They go everywhere
together ...they even watch cartoons together. So, in short I have a
wonderful furry baby!!!
2/15/06 - Hello
again. I just wanted to let everyone know that Petey had his first visit
to his new vet today and he is doing absolutely wonderful. He has gained
7 lbs. of solid muscle. She told us he is all muscle and he is one of
the healthiest dogs she has seen in awhile. He goes on 3 walks a day and
plays constantly with the cat so no doubt he gets enough exercise. lol
So I just thought I would let you all know just how well he is
doing not only physically but he is also very well adjusted into our
home. He has definitely established his place in our home. And the "best
behavior" act they do until they adjust is over !1hahaha He
is just a joy to be with . In the mornings he actually lies
behind my daughter so she can lay back on him while they watch morning
cartoons !!! Very cute !! It feels a though he has always been here and
I believe that he knows that he always will be here. Thanks a lot to
everyone and we will keep you all posted.
2/6/06 -
Well....what can I say
except we couldn't be happier. Petey is such a joy !! And he is so
beautiful, and he knows it , you get out a camera and he and my 3 yr old
daughter pose !!! LOL They are inseparable now ....We call them the
dynamic duo. haha When we picked up Petey we knew that he was a
wonderful dog but we couldn't have know just how loving ,playful and
entertaining he would be . He is quite a character , he loves to show
off !! We will be having his photo done soon and we will be sending one.
I have to thank you again ....if it wasn't for all of you we would of
never found Petey and already we can not imagine life without him.
2/2/06 -
Just thought I would let everyone
know that Petey is doing great!!! He is a full fledge member of our
family, and even though its only been 6 days we couldn't imagine life
without him, we will never be able to thank all of you enough !! We will
keep you informed.... Gratefully yours, April , Ronnie
, Jade and Petey

they look VERY amusing . We want to thank everyone for all they have
done and a very special thanks to Carrie and her family for the
exceptional care they had given to Petey. I know they loved him very
much .We will keep everyone up to date on how things go. Thanks again ,
April , Ronnie , Jade and Petey.

Petey is pending adoption
1/20/06 -
The
honeymoon is over.
Petey does
have one bad
habit (if you
can believe it)
he chews!
It is not a
huge deal as of yet,
he hasn't destroyed anything.
His chewing
target seems to be paper
(teach me to gate a dog in the office) I don't know if
it was about
being gated in the office away from the other dogs or if
it was
because I left but
he got into the paper shredder. Now how in the heck did he know there
was paper in there?
It's not even a clear container.
On the other hand Petey is
still an awesome dog. When we walk he turns heads and it makes you proud
to be seen walking with him. He has such poise
and such a commanding presence. When we walked to school the other day a
little kid called him a Dalmatian which I found amusing. When we went to
cross the street he sat and waited for the traffic to pass and every
head turned to look at him.
We love having Petey here he is so well behaved and is just great wth
the kids. He is still getting along just fine with Maddie and Marco and
he and Marco go non-stop
(sometimes to
long) and I end up separating them for my own sanity. Petey still gets
gated in his room at night,
not because I don't trust him but because Marco is in a crate and I feel
like I am being unfair to Marco.
Petey has not bothered the cat at all even when Maddie and Marco chase
her he doesn't join in he just lets her pass on by. Over all Petey is a
great dog he is a joy to have around. I think about him leaving and I
get a little sad because I know he is really comfortable here and has
found his place in the pack. However I know he will adjust to wherever
he goes next,
they all do. Petey needs his own special forever home that has plenty to
give my big lover boy.

Not to much has
changed in the life according to Petey he is still doing great with the
kids and is getting along fine with the dogs and hasn't bothered with
the cat. What more could you really ask for.
We did have 3 little scuffles the other day. One was with Marco they
were playing and Petey had enough and does his thing to let Marco know
but this time Marco didn't back down so it got a little more physical.
The other 2 were with Maddie. David had brought some food in from
the car and put it down in the front hall. Maddie was guarding the
food and Petey thought it was for him, but Maddie stood her ground and
the second time she was standing near the food in the kitchen and he did
the same thing. He was sent to his room for the rest of the night. We
feed him in a separate room anyway because it is easier that way for us
as 3 large dogs in my tiny kitchen does not work. He does not get
possessive of the water bowls which are in the kitchen so I am not sure
what it is except that I am sure once he realizes that he will get
enough food here and will not go hungry, this will change.
If Petey is to go to a home with other dogs I suggest he go with other
males as he seems to prefer the company of males over females though he
has been fine with Maddie in all other aspects of living they share a
couch and when she barks at him he backs off he never goes after her and
he never tries to get her to play. He'd rather play with Marco because
he is more his speed. He is not possessive over toys or humans. He is
just a big lover man and can I say again how well behaved he is. My Mom
asked him last night if he was coming home with her. Everyone that comes
in the house is just amazed that he sits and waits to be greeted as soon
as you pat his head he hands you his paw. This is a huge change for us
because as behaved as Maddie is she is a nut at the front door and Marco
just forgets himself and if he could tie himself in a knot he would have
by now the way he turns and flips at the front door.
Petey is doing great here it will be a sad day when he goes. I know his
days here are numbered how can anyone pass up on a dog like Petey.

Hi everyone Petey
continues to do very well here. His snotty nose is clearing up and he is
still a very well behaved dog. We have had no problems with Petey he is
extremely well disciplined and is getting along nicely with the other
dogs. He listens so well that when you tell him to stop an action you
rather not have him doing he automatically stops you rarely have to
speak more then once. Like searching for the cat if you tell him
"no kitty" he stops his search and goes back to whatever he was doing.
As for what home I imagine for Petey he seems really versatile. He goes
out in the yard to do his business then comes back in he is pretty laid
back but also loves to play tug and ball. He loves to cuddle up on the
couch. He plays with Marco but if Petey is done playing he usually pins
Marco down and even when Marco submits Petey wont move till you call him
off. He doesn't growl or anything he just kind of stands there. He gets
along fine with Maddie too but she is different with him, she pretty
much doesn't bother with him and he just lets her be. I think Petey
would be fine either way in a home alone where he can hog all the
attention or in a home with a dog like Marco or Maddie. It depends what
you can take and are willing to put up with. Petey enjoys human
attention and looks for your attention but he is not pushy about it.
Last night when I was cooking dinner I tried to get him to stand up but
he just wouldn't do it like he knows it's wrong to jump. There really
isn't much to report on Petey he is a fabulous we haven't seen any
negative behavior in him. Keep checking in on Petey I am sure he wont be
here for long:)

Petey
went to the vet on Tuesday and did very well. He got a clean bill of
health except for this snotty nose that seems to be hanging on. He has
no fever or cough and the DR said his lungs are clear so it just seems
to be this yucky nose.
The really good news I want to share though is that we decided to just
bite the bullet and see how Petey did with the dogs and to our delight
it was great! He is now an active member of the household playing with
Marco till they drop and leaving the queen bee (Maddie) to rest
peacefully. Now mind you we went slow with all our intro's keeping
leashes on and very tight so they couldn't turn their heads on each
other but after a few time of that we just let them go. Petey and Marco
went back and forth for the alpha spot although they both seem to know
Maddie has that but they did it respectively back and forth and it never
turned ugly. Very rowdy enough to make you wonder but then
they would stop and lick each others faces. They play tug and share toys
and it never gets nasty. However Petey is not for the weak at heart he
does play rough but Marco gives it right back. They seem to have
obtained a mutual respect for each other and we couldn't be happier. I
would have hated to keep him cooped up the entire time he was here. As
for kitties he seems curious about ours and would like to investigate
her but he does it calmly I believe he has no intentions of hurting her
so a kitty home would probably be fine as well. I will keep everyone
posted on how things
progress now that he is an active member of the household we will see if
there are truly any bad habits he is hiding underneath his angel
exterior.

So here we are on day
number 2. As you can see we changed Chance's name to Petey. Not to
offend anyone with the change but we thought new year, new home, new
life so why not a new name. Also recently there was a Chance in rescue
so we thought he could use a different name he seems to like it and
responds well to it.
Petey has been very good you couldn't ask for a better behaved dog. He
was obviously very well trained. We weighed him today and he weighs 65
pounds he looks like he could be a solid 80 and look fabulous. He is
skinny right now and needs some extra pounds so hopefully we can get him
feeling well and get him fattened up. He had some pasta added to dinner
tonight so maybe that will help. I wish I could let him out with our
dogs but we are holding off till he gets adjusted to our house. For now
we have a baby gate up and even when Marco stands on top of it and
whines at Petey he doesn't approach Marco or growl at him to back off.
He is just the biggest love and like I said if he ends up not doing well
with the dogs he would be great for any family as the only dog. The one
thing I have noticed he does take a stance when Maddie and Marco are
going at it. Not that he wants to join in but he seems confused by it
and that is when he seems to get tense. I am unsure about the cat but
from what I have seen he is way to interested he really would like to
get to her but of course he is on a leash and she doesn't let him get
close enough. However she has not come back in the house and usually if
she is unthreatened by a foster she comes in and runs but she will
usually
come around and even start rubbing up on them.
I have the feeling until we get the dogs together my updates will be
really repetitive. Simply put Petey is a wonderful dog fully trained to
anyone's standards and probably beyond some peoples. He is in love with
the kids and so gentle he never jumps or barks but the kids will tell
you he doesn't play fair at tug he uses his paw to get you to release.
He is so cute and I can't wait till he is feeling better. When we go out
walking even in his pathetic state he turns heads all my
neighbors say now who is this he is just so cute.

Chance is now here with us
in upstate NY. He was pulled from the shelter and a volunteers
sister was kind enough to keep him for a week until he could make it up
here to us. So far we know that he is excellent with kids mine are 3 1/2
and 7 1/2 the home where he was staying also had young children not sure
of their ages. He is excellent on the leash and in the crate and knows
all of his commands. I can't believe how behaved he is he listens so
well. The only thing we are a little unsure about is how he is going to
be with dogs. He had 2 chances to meet 2 females yesterday and it didn't
go well. So we are taking things really slow and wont introduce him to
Marco and Maddie till
next week. In his defense he is obviously very under the weather. He has
a cold that he is taking meds for so maybe when it clears up he will
feel better.
I have been trying to keep him out of sight from Maddie and Marco but it
didn't work they know he is here. As I type Marco is laying across the
hall just hoping I will let him in. He has whined at the gate for
several minutes and Chance just watches him. He has not growled at him
or attempted any moves at the gate. He is very interested in what they
are doing but we aren't going to make an formal introductions till next
week. I am glad Marco's whining isn't driving him insane.
I really hope that intro's go well next week and we can integrate him
more into our home because he is a sweet dog.
If by some chance he does not get along well with other dogs and he has
to be the only dog in the home trust me when I say you wont regret
taking him. I know he has only been here the day but he has been
fabulous and I think those who have met him and have even had the chance
to live with him would say the same. You couldn't ask for a better
behaved dog and like I said he is fabulous with the kids and that is a
huge bonus in my mind. However in my opinion if next week we see things
aren't going to go well with him and our dogs I would say not even to
try him with another dog because if he can't get along with Maddie and
Marco he might just not get along with anyone. They are
both so passive. I promise to keep everyone updated and of course his
page will be full of new pics soon. I will have no problems getting him
to pose for the camera because he sits and stays so well.

Chance was picked up by
a local shelter as a stray. They quickly realized he was well
taken care of and even had a micro chip so they waited for his owners to
come. Well, somehow they never found him, so just in time for the
holidays BAR took him from the shelter so he could wait for Santa in a
nice warm home!
Chance, as his foster family has named him, is an amazing dog! He
is very well trained...walks on the leash wonderfully, plays very nice
with the children, never minds going into his crate, loves car rides,
and knows all of his basic commands. He is just full of affection
and love for his foster family, and anyone who enters the house is
greeted with tons of wags and wiggles!
Before we left the shelter though a very nice family saw Chance and
became quickly interested in him. They submitted an application right
away and are currently going through the process of becoming an approved
home.
I will certainly update everyone real soon to let you know how this
beautiful boy is doing, and if he has found his forever home already.
