1/31/09 - Neeko has finally left for his forever home. We never expected to have Neeko for as long as we did but we enjoyed every minute with him. He will always hold a special place in our hearts. We wish him and his new family the best and look forward to hearing how he is doing every now and then. Be Good Neek-a-leek. We miss you already!!!! 1/19/09 - Neeko is pending adoption 1/4/09 - Neeko had a great Holiday!! He loved all the people that came to the house. Everyone who meets him just loves him, he is always so good when guests are here. Of course he's good when we don't have guests too. This weekend we took in another foster a four month old boxer puppy named Deacon. (check out his page too) Neeko just loves him. They were instant buddies and would play nonstop if we let them. It is so much fun to watch them bounce around together. I didn't think Neeko was ever gonna catch his breath he was panting so hard playing with him. Finally I separated them so that everyone could rest and recoup for round two. Last weekend we gave Neeko a bath and he did great. We even used the blow dryer to get him dry and he was fine with it. He is now super soft. We have always been able to groom (nails, ear cleaning, teeth brushing) him with no problems. Neeks really just seems to go with the flow. Check back to see pics of Neeko playing with Deacon. 12/23/08 -
Hi everyone my name is Neeko. Sometime called Neeks, Neek-a-leek,
Little Neek whatever you call me is fine. But I do know my name and
respond when called. I'm still waiting here at my foster home for
the right family to come along and adopt me. My foster family loves
me lots but they know I really want a family of my own. I'm excited
for Christmas though because one of my favorite humans is coming to
visit and stay for a few days. He always rubs my ears and plays with
me too. 12/15/08 - Neeko is still doing great. This weekend we took him to meet some of my students. I am always talking about my dogs so I thought it might be nice for them to meet Neeko. The kids ranged in age from 4-16 and Neeko loved everyone. He went and greeted each and every kid. Some he even gave kisses too but he didn't jump up on any of them. They all commented on how cute he is and what a good boy. I love introducing this guy to new situations because he always impresses us. 12/3/08 - Neeko has really taken to toys since that little boy played with him. He now has a favorite stuffed Santa that he carries around. He has even carried it outside with him to go to the bathroom. It is very cute, seeing up til now he has rarely played with any of the toys for more than a minute. When he goes to my sisters to play with her dog they both manage to empty out the toy basket and of course leave them all over the room. With the cold and rainy weather Neeko has been spending more time at my sisters playing with her dog. They get along so good and we both have tired pups. He knows when we are going too because I will open the garage door and he goes right for the car door. One day when we didn't go to her house he kept sniffing along the garage door hoping it would open. Neeko has also become a cuddle bug, which I love. Sometimes he does like to get right up in your face but once you start petting the ears he melts back. I can not say even wonderful things about this boxer boy 11/16/08 - Neeko has had a fabulous week here. This week we got a treadmill and we have Neeko walking daily on it already. He seems to really enjoy it too. Just for about 20 minutes right now as we don't want to overwhelm him. With the approaching bad weather we knew we would need to keep the dogs active and seeing the sidewalks aren't plowed we figured this was the best way. Of course, we were pleasantly surprised by how well he took to it the first day. He is such a good boy! We also had friends over this weekend and they brought there 6 year old nephew and Neeko was great with everyone. He really loved the little boy. The little boy kept throwing different toys from the toy basket and Neeko would run after each one. He would chew on it for a minute or two and then the little boy would throw another and Neeko would go after the next one. If Neeko did bring the toy back and the little boy said "Drop it" Neeko would right away. It was great to watch. Neeko has never played with toys with us like that and has never played with toys for that long. It really put a smile on our face to see him have so much fun. He was a tired boy by the time they left. Neeko continues to prove to us what a great boxer he is. He learned something new this week and showed us how good he would be with kids. 11/8/08 - We have great news to report. We have been watching the area where the bump was removed on Neeko's ear and everything looks wonderful. It's been almost three months now. The vet had mentioned to watch the area for regrowth but so far so good. Neeko has been having fun in the yard this week with the nice weather we have been having. He of course loved running through the piles of leaves as I raked but oh well. I just wouldn't suggest playing in those leaves. He gets so excited to go outside and play. He runs to the kitchen and slides around the corner to get outside. Sometimes he slides right into the wall but he doesn't even notice just gets to back door as fast as he can and sits to wait for his leash. Even when we come back inside Neeko knows to sit and wait for his leash to be removed. I don't think that I have ever mentioned how well Neeko rides in the car. I took him to my sisters to play indoors when it was raining one day and he jumped right into the car and sat in the passenger seat ready to go. Of course he was so tired when we left that he jumped in and went and layed down in the back on the way home. I wish I had my camera with me that day he was just too cute. She lives two blocks over so he got to sit there that day but for longer distances he is crated and he jumps right in the car then too. Neeko is still his super sweet self just waiting for his forever home to come along. 11/1/08 - Neeko
is still waiting for his forever home.
He is such a good boy with us though that it will be hard to see him
finally go but that is what he deserves a family to call his own.
For the last few weeks he has become more of a cuddle bug. He is
laying down with us more than ever. He makes some funny noises with
his nose sometimes that just make you laugh. It's like his nostrils
are too small and if he breaths in too deep he makes interesting
noises. We cleaned his ears this week as he has been playing more
outside and he just stood there while we did it. A couple weeks ago
he got a cut on his foot too and while we cleaned it off and applied
antibiotic he just waited for us to finish. He just seems to take
things as they come.
10/19/08 -
Our little Neeko has been really
enjoying our house
guest. My husband's brother has been staying us and Neeko
just loves him. Especially because he will rub Neeko's ears whenever
he is sitting on the couch. That is Neeko's favorite, he will melt
right into you when you do. If he wasn't in the process of moving he
said he would take Neeko with him. We have also had other new people
over and Neeko has been wonderful with everyone. He is really a
sweet boy. Recently, we have had to separate Neeko
from my female. Our male has been having some health issues and so
the dynamic of the pack has changed and my female is trying to
assert power over Neeko. Neeko continues to spend time with my male
with no problems but my female is unpredictable lately. Neeko is
handling everything fine. Even when we have had him upstairs by
himself he is being great. Neeko continues to have playdates with his Akita
friend and it is very funny to watch them play. The Akita lives with
four cats and will swat at Neeko like a cat when they are playing.
Also, Neeko has finally become interested in the toys in the yard
and we can get him running around now by himself with the toys. Our
walk schedule has finally been reestablished and we have been
working on his walk manners. He does best after he has played. If
you take him without getting him alittle tired he is a puller for
the first half of the walk though. Oh, one more thing Neeko knows release. My husband
has been working on it with him and he has done great. He is a smart
boxer boy!!! 10/7/08 - Neeko is doing well here in our home. We have found that he really loves to get his ears rubbed and will melt into you every time to scratch them. I don't have much more to say about him so I thought I would update on this daily routine here in our home. He gets up at 6am goes out to do his business and has breakfast around 6:30am. Then it is back to bed for him. Once everyone has slept a little longer it's time to play, play, play. After I take everyone out again I usually leave for a few hours and he spends his time in the crate. He goes in the crate with no problem anymore but he does get a treat so that helps. Once I come home it is more playtime with our two boxers or a walk. Around 3pm everyone gets fed again and naptime begins. In the evening they all like to occasionally play and sit down to watch TV with us. At night, they all sleep in our bedroom. Since I have found out that I am pregnant they all sleep in the bed curled all around me now. It is very cute. Every Sunday, Neeko goes on a playdate with our boxers to play with another boxer and everyone does great. Check back for new pictures of Neeko on his playdate. 9/19/08 - Neeko has been
doing outstanding. He now goes with us on our weekly playdate with a
boxer friend. All four dogs get along great and run and run. It makes
for a nice and quiet Sunday afternoon.
9/4/08 - Neeko went on a
playdate with our two boxers this weekend to play with another male
boxer. All four of them did wonderful together. Neeko did tire out the
fastest and decided to mount the other boxer when he kept trying to get
him to play. That boxer didn't appreciate that so we just put Neeko on a
leash while the others played and he just laid down next to us. He was
exhausted the rest of the day. 8/26/08 - Neeko is still his spunky fun self. He recently had a small bump removed from under his ear and it did end up being a Grade 2 Mass Cell Tumor. While it sounds bad he is doing fine. The ear is a tricky spot to remove a bump from and while they hope that it is all gone that can not be guaranteed. So for now all we can do is watch to make sure that it doesn't grow back. Like with all boxers any lump should be checked. Neeko is still a wonderful boxer that deserves a forever family to call his own. He loves to play with other dogs, go for walks, and be near his humans.
8/16/08 - Neeko has been
doing great. He definitely loves being part of the pack and everyone
gets along wonderful. Of course, Neeko and my female have had cranky
moments but they give each other kisses minutes later. The only thing
they don't do together is eat but that is because we keep them separated
afterward so there bellies can rest. They would want to start playing
especially in the morning. 8/4/08 - Neeko is still a
wonderful house guest.
We had friends over this weekend and they brought there 6 year old
nephew with them. Neeko was wonderful with everyone. The little boy
piled a bunch of the dog toys all over and around Neeko and he just
laid there. He never jumped on anyone and was calm the entire time. He
ended up curling up next to my friend on the couch and falling asleep
after awhile. They wanted to take him home he was so good. 7/22/08 - Neeko is now
truly part of the pack. All three hang out when we are home and everyone
sleeps in our bedroom together at night. They started off playing non
stop but have calmed down and now leave each other alone when one goes
off to lay down. At first it started off with just my female and Neeko
playing while my male commentated (aka barked at them). Now though, they
each play together at different times. My favorite is when one of them
is on their back. Feet straight up in the air and the other two are
chewing on the one on the ground. Proves they trust one another which is
wonderful to watch. We haven't been walking as much due to the 90 degree
weather and random downpours but they exhaust each other from all the
playing together. 7/12/08 - Neeko went to the
vet the other day for a wellness check. He's a little guy weighing only
48 lbs but he loves meal time and always eats everything up right away.
(He's just a small boxer.) He gave the vet hugs while he was there and
even met one of our former fosters. Her mom works there and she had
brought Jazz with her that day so Neeko got to meet Jazz. Her mom said
that Neeko is much cuter in person than in the pictures and we totally
agree. 7/9/08 - Well, Neeko has
been busy meeting new people. On the Fourth of July we had friends over
and he just hung outside with us as we barbequed and played games. My
parents stopped by this weekend as well and Neeko just loved my dad. He
sat right next to him to be petted the whole time he was here. Neeko
seems to have no problems with anyone. 7/4/08 - Neeko continues to
be a wonderful house guest and seems to be more comfortable here. He
comes over to us more often for some attention and is not whining as
much when we go upstairs and leave him downstairs. This past weekend
Neeko went on a long walk with our male boxer and they had no issues.
They walked side by side with no problems. He also met my female and he
did get a little cranky with her but they both were just too excited to
see one another. Throughout the week we have been bringing them together
separately as well. Everyone is doing great. Neeko sometimes is a little
overwhelmed with ours as they have a lot of energy and just want to
play, play, play. He still has daily playdates with his Akita friend and
they are great together. Neeko and the Akita know how to take breaks
when playing and will leave the other alone so there energy is a good
match. 6/27/08 - Neeko is doing
wonderful. He has been going on daily walks and is doing good on the
leash. He has also had daily playdates with his Akita friend and they
play great together. He does sometimes try to mount the
Akita but he is quickly corrected and he doesn't try again. It is
rather comical when we try to get one of their attention as they have
the same name. Our Neeko definitely knows his name though. 6/20/08 - Neeko got to play
with another Neeko today. My sister has a six month old Akita named
Neeko too and they got to meet and play together. They did wonderful-
they both were rolling onto their backs doing the boxer face fighting,
running after one another, and laying down side by side. They tired each
other out!! We already have another playdate set up for tomorrow. 6/18/06 - Neeko is doing
wonderful. He seems to be catching up on some sleep after having been at
the shelter for five weeks. We are very excited to report that after
applying bag balm to his nose a few times a day the growth has flaked
off and is gone. We will see if by keeping his nose moist it will also
prevent it from growing back. Now he is super handsome!!! 6/15/08 - We picked
up Neeko today from
Lollypop Farms. He was an owner surrender to the shelter and he
was stressed in the kennel which caused people to overlook him. It has
been reported that he lived with cats and children and was great with
both. He was already neutered and is up to date on all his shots. Neeko
is a small boxer weighing in at 50 lbs and he is 5 years old. If you
look at the pictures you will notice that there is something on his
nose. The way it was described to us was new skin growing that will
flake off at times and regrow. (I have to get the exact name.) But it is
nothing to be concerned about. He is still a beautiful boy. |
