5/13/09 - Hello all!  It's been a while since you heard from us.  That's because we're been so busy enjoying Beanie/Jackie (now known as Zena -- the Warrior Princess).  She came to us through Boxer Angels Rescue the first week of February, but it already seems like she's been with us forever -- they have that special way of getting right into your heart, you know?

She is a total treasure!!!  She brought our handsome Hercules (almost 6-year old white boxer) totally back to life after his lifetime doggie companion Sugar passed of old-age complications in December.  Zena and Herc play non-stop, share all the toys and bones (probably 50 throughout the house!), and then curl up together for naps.  She also LOVES pinecones and digging up roots – and squeaky toys!  And, she’s now 60 pounds of muscle!

Zena (also known as Z., Zee-Zee, Zing-Zing-Zing, and Z-girl!) is an amazing dog and spirit!  She just needed firm but loving leadership.  She has graduated from basic obedience training -- and everyone agreed she was "a star" and "a great example for all the other dogs!"  A few weeks ago, we started agility training (which Hercules has also been doing for a couple of years now).  Today, the three of us had a private lesson at the facility.  Zena is a natural, zinging around, over and through all the obstacles.  She's very confident and adapts quickly to every situation.  Loves other dogs and people she meets!  And boy is she fast!

I've also seen her instantly adjust her playing style from really rough-and-tumble with a Strattford Pit Bull Terrier to quiet-and-gentle with a small Sheltie in one of her obedience classes.  She's so perceptive, I think she has some important work to do, besides of course having the time of her life every day with Hercules, me, and Carlos!

So, thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone at Boxer Angels Rescue for bringing our precious, vibrant Zena to us!  She's perfect!  You all do extraordinary work in the world for both the canines and the people who love them back!

Thanks, again, all!  Until next time...

2/4/09 - Wanted to let you know how FABULOUSLY it's going with Beanie!  Her new name is Zena! She's a real dynamo, strong, athletic and like a warrior, so we wanted a name that says all that.  She and Hercules hit it off right from the start.  She's just amazing -- a perfect fit for all of us.  They play almost constantly, and nap together, too.  And she sure does love all of Herc's (and now hers, too) squeaky toys!
Thank you for helping us bring this absolute beauty into our lives and home.  She has changed both our and Hercules' lives and we're very grateful!

1/27/09 - Little Beanie Beans is doing great!! J She really is a pleasure to have around. Such a little clown, and what a mush! She has a great energy about her, and is such an awesome pup! She has been coming along great with the mouthing. She’ll still do it a little bit, but she’s easily redirected, especially since she knows that’s not allowed anymore. She absolutely loves running and playing outside with my male Joey. She is definitely needing some work on the leash, but she’ll get the hang of that quickly.

I did find out this weekend that she thinks she should be allowed to drive the car. Had to advise her differently. It’s really just not comfortable trying to drive with a 45lb pup in your lap. Haha. So, she’s a good candidate for a dog seatbelt. J A few other things she really like’s to help with are shoveling snow, however, she wants to use the shovel J . Making the bed, but she wants to be made WITH the bed, under the covers. You got it…I told her we cant do that. J And few other household chores, like using the dustbuster and sweeping. Anyway you cut it, Beanie is a blast. A true dog-lover’s dog!

1/20/09 - Ok, so since Friday we’ve been busy with Beanie. She’s been over my Parents house, met a bunch of my friends, dogs, cats, Petco trip. She handles it all like a pro. She was great in Petco. There were kids and other dogs there as usual, she really didn’t pay any attention to either. She just followed us and let us get what we needed.

Like I said, she has A LOT of energy. But she is such a BLAST!! She met my mom’s MinPin, and all she wanted to do was play. And she was gentle with him. A lot of play bowing, talking, but her paws are a bit heavy for such a little dog, and she uses her paws in genuine boxer form!!! So, she may want to live with a bigger dog, not because she doesn’t like the little guys, she does, but because she just a big 45lb puppy, and that can be a bit much for the smaller pups. Now, with the bigger pups…. Get a saddle, cause she’s launching herself on their backs. Hahaha. She loves, loves, loves playing and wrestling with Joey (my 2 yr old male boxer). She LOVES to run, and she can jump with the best of them. I see this girl run, and the only thing I that comes to mind is, WOW!!! She would be great with Agility courses!!!

We’re working on manners, and true to form, she wants to please. Though at times her excitement will get the better of her, she is a smart girl! She does mouth us since she came to our house, she’ll get really excited and want to play, and she will mouth constantly. So, we’ve been working on that, and she’s starting to get the drift. But again, its not in a nasty way, she is just pure puppy playfulness, and when I play with her, if she goes for my hand, again in a playful puppy manner, I tell her "No Bite", and will give her a toy instead. And she is completely happy with the toy instead of your hand! So, she’s just going to need some consistency to know what she should and shouldn’t do. Did I mention how much she likes to run? With such energy and all her playfulness, I think she would do great in an active household. And she loves other dogs, so I think she would really enjoy the company of a fur brother or sister. Plus with a fur bro or sis, mom & dad will be grateful, because all the romping helps drain her excess energy J

1/19/09 - Alright, introducing the newest cutie to BAR!!! Welcome Miss Jackie aka Beanie! She was picked up as a stray on the street, and came to us this Friday 1/16. What a great little houseguest!!! J

We call her "Beanie" for the time being b/c Jackie just doesn’t fit her personality! We call her that because she has the best little kidney bean dance, and when she’s excited she walks sideways like a little bean. Yes, its ADORABLE!! This little lovey is a spunky little firecracker!! If you’re looking for a boxer pup that is Full of life & energy, look no further!!! She’s it! J At the moment she’s lacking in the manner dept. but that’s so easy to look over when you see the personality of this pup! Plus, in due time she will be the perfect lady, and her manners will be up to par!! J

We’ve only had one accident since she came to us, and it was actually our fault for not letting her out when she tried to tell us. And she went right by the back door. Other than that, she seems pretty much housebroken. Goes every time I take her out. She was slow on wanting to eat, so I added a little something special to her dish (chicken & rice) and she ate it like there’s no tomorrow. She is excellent in her crate. Not a big fan of going in it, but once she’s inside, she just settles in an takes a nap or watches what’s going on. No signs of separation anxiety, which is great. And her reluctance to go in, really is just a dead stop, play bow, and run away before she comes back and gets in. Its funny.

Once I know more about this little cutie, I will let you all know, but like I said, if you want a funny boxer, who is full of life & energy and guaranteed to bring tons of smiles….one thing that is for sure, is you should consider Miss Beanie! J
